Which downloads do I need

Question

I have a notebook NX7010 which uses XP prpfessional.
on the back is a label with Compaq NX7010
A serial No,  p/n and service tag
Last monday I started it up and it came up with
A disc read error occurred
Press Cntr+Alt+Delete to restart
This originally had a 160GB hard drive and I was told that it was too big and that was what was causing the problems.
I've bough a new hard drive 120GB and tried to load windows, but there is a list of several drivers under each heading, soi which drivers do I select?
Or more to the point how do I find exactly which drivers I need?

First thing.
Click on start.
Then control panel, system,  hardware and then device manager.
You will see ? marks next to devices you need drivers for. “Video, sound, network, etc”
Double click on one of them then click on details.
You will see a device code like “PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_170C”
There may be more numbers after that but this is all you need.
Do a google search on that device code and it will tell what that device is.
Go to HP drivers download, download and run that driver.
If you cannot do it from the laptop you are working on download the drivers on another computer and transfer to a thumb drive.
Then run the drivers on the laptop.
