from my experiance with 7900GTX , the nvidia's 9x.xx series is a piece of crap, I am using 84.21 which gives me 15% more FPS than 91.33..
Regarding the PC restart issue.. it might not be the driver problem, it could be a heat problem or even a small screw hanging in your PC case can cause a short circut & for the system to sudden restart (It happend to me once)..
Have a nice day...

Which is more stable for Encore: XP 64 bit, or Vista 64 bit?
Any thoughts on this, most appreciated!
    Thanks,

If Encore CS4's transcoder can run on more than one thread (and if you of course have a multicore system), then I'd say yes. Otherwise, probably no advantage.
I don't use Vista 64, so I don't know whether there are any disadvantages.

  • Is Apple Mail more stable than Entourage? which mail client do I want?

I can't take Microsoft Entourage (2008) any more - the constant garbling of the enormous single database file (and the database "repairs" which always seem to lose data) are driving me crazy. Our institution is going to upgrade to Exchange 2007 (or perhaps 2010) in a few weeks, and I need to move to a more stable client. I'm running the latest 10.6. Can someone advise me: do I want Apple Mail, Thunderbird, or something else? My criteria are:
    1) I need to be able to access the Exchange server's email, Calendar, and Addressbook, but not necessarily with the same application.
    2) I have a very large database of emails - 22 Gigs or so, and I need to be able to view and search them all. So,
    3) which client will make migration from Entourage easiest/most reliable?
    4) which one is the most stable, so that this huge (and growing database) won't get corrupted? It's insane that one bad action can ruin the whole thing. Surely there are clients that store emails separately so that even if something gets damaged, the whole thing isn't munged... Is Apple Mail pretty bulletproof for large databases?
    5) is there any way with Apple Mail or anything else to control (or at least see) what gets deleted/copied to the server? With Entourage, I never know whether my stuff is getting deleted off the server or not (no way to specify "1-way sync" or even see a log of what it deleted, like appointments etc.).
    Any hints greatly appreciated!
    thank you,
    Mike Levin

but it doesn't seem possible that 22 GB of that data is live.
Either that, or you get an awful lot of attachments.
it's live in the sense that I search through it often. It's not kept on the server though - most of it is in local folders (which also get trashed when the database gets corrupted). I do get some attachments, and it's emails since 1989 or so.
You have done rebuilds of the database I see, but I don't recall if that
function gets rid of deleted items. When you delete files from the Deleted
Items folder, they don't actually go anywhere. They just get moved to a hidden
So if you've never compressed the data, a very large portion of your Entourage
database could just be old deleted items. Close Entourage and Option+launch it
to get the Database Utility. Use the "Compact database" choice on your file.
This will remove all fully deleted items from the database.
interesting!! I'll try this for sure.
    thanks,
    Mike

  • Overall faster and more stable when starting fresh

I got tired of the slow and crashing issues after I upgraded to the new firmware and installed new apps. I decided to restore the phone to "factory" settings (1st gen iPhone). But this time, instead of restoring from a previous backup, I selected the first option, which is to setup a new one.
All the settings were reset, but I guess starting out with a new slate, everything feels much more stable and faster. Any comments on this?
I guess once in a while, it's a good idea to format your hard drive and install everything from scratch : )

    Hi Thewisestarfish,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the Mac is running slowly. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • I'd like to alter my Airport Extreme/Airport Express wireless network so that the 3 Expresses connect to the Extreme via Ethernet. I've been told this will create a more stable wifi signal. How do I configure this using Airport Utility? Thanks.

I currently have an Airport Extreme Base Station connected to my DSL router by Ethernet. Because I have a long, sprawling home, I have 3 Airport Expresses configured to "Extend the Wireless Network" I've established. Because of my home environment--thick walls encompassaing wire mesh, sprawling rooms, etc., it is hard to maintain a continuously-strong, stable WiFi signal. I've been told that I can create a much more stable network by connecting the Express units to the AEBS via Ethernet cable. Since my home is already wired for Ethernet, I'm considering making this change. If I proceed to establish the Ethernet connections, how do I then set up Airport Utility to accomodate this switch from a Wireless-based WiFi network to an Ethernet-based WiFi network?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Phyllis

I don't see anyplace in the Utility to designate HOW the Express units are connected, only how they relate on the network to the Extreme,
As I mentioned in the previous post, when you click the Internet icon in AirPort Utility:
Connect Using = Ethernet  (This tells each Express to connect to the Extreme using the ethernet connection)
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)  (This setting allows your AirPort Extreme to function as the "main" router on the network, as it must for the setup to work correctly.
You do not need to configure anything differently on the AirPort Extreme (as long as it is working correctly now) to connect the AirPort Express devices.
The only other question I have is the following: I'm currently already using one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the Extreme-- for my husband's iMac. I really don't think he gains much in performance over how the iMac would run through wifi, so I could disconnect the iMac. If you think the iMac would do better to stay on the Ethernet connection, should I use a switch/splitter to add an extra connection?
Since each AirPort Express must connect using ethernet, you will need to use the 3 LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme for the AirPort Express devices.
I would suggest that you try connecting the iMac using wireless to see if that will work. If the wireless connection is not satisfactory, then you can add a 5 port ethernet switch to one of the LAN ports on the Extreme and then plug all the devices connecting using ethernet....the iMac and the 3 AirPort Express devices...into the remaining 4 ports on the switch. That will leave you with 2 open ports on the AirPort Extreme for any future devices that may need to connect.
When you test out the system, here is a trick to find out which device your computer is actually connecting to at any given time as it "roams" around the house.
When you have AirPort Utility open to configure each AirPort Express, jot down the AirPort ID for each Express. You can do the same for the AirPort Extreme.
As you move around with your laptop, hold down the option key on your Mac keyboard while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID. That is the AirPort ID of the device that the laptop is connected to at that time. it should also be the ID of the closest AirPort Express (or AirPort Extreme if the laptop is close to the Extreme at the time).
Let us know how things are working when everything is up and running.

  • Which Driver for MS SQL-Server 2000

    Hello,
i need to access a MS SQL-Server 2000 and want to ask which driver you think is the best one for this problem.
I am not a big fan of using beta-Software, and i do not need the newest state-of-the-art features. Right now i also do not need Connection-Pooling.
Only a few SQL SELECT/UPDATE-Statements nothing more.
But maybe in not far away future, Conn-Pooling and Procedure-Calls could be interesting. And i think Type 3 or 4 would be the best decision.
The Software will run on NT, but i do not want to use the JDBC/ODBC-Bridge, because it is so unbelievable slow.
I am interested in WHICH DRIVER you USE, AND especially which drivers you DO NOT USE ANYMORE, and why.
It would be great, if anyone could help me, finding the best solution.
P.S.: The price of the driver: It would be good, when it is for free. But if you know a good commercial driver i am also interested in.
P.P.S: Yes, i have searched for drivers under http://servlet.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers. But there are 37 different Type 3/4 drivers.

You can try the jtds project .Search for it in www.sourceforge.net. It is derived from FreeTDS JDBC driver. Both of them are Type 4 JDBC drivers. So far I have tried both of them a few years ago. And jtds is more updated (during those time, not sure what the status is right now)
Or, you can get Microsofts own JDBC driver

  • How to identify which drive is the current boot drive?

I have a PowerBook running Leopard, and I prefer to boot from the external drive. It's bigger and has my working files. The current internal drive is for future use, for when I have a replacement machine. I know how to specify the boot drive in Preferences, but sometimes the machine reboots without me. I don't know how to verify which drive I'm booted from. I changed the desktop background, so that once I'm logged in I can tell, but surely there is a more direct way to determine this. Isn't there?

A simple option would be to select About this Mac from the Apple menu.

  • Which driver do I need for Broadcom4311?

    Hello,
I'm using a dell Inspirion E1505, with a Broadcom4311 chipset. I read in the wiki and apparently I have a few options:
    1. ndiswrapper - will use as a last resort only, I prefer to find a more linux-y solution
    2. BCM4312 driver which apparently works for my 4311
    2. broadcom -wl
    3. b43
My question is, which driver is the best for my hardware? Apparently all work (according to the "supported cards" in the wiki) but I'm interested to know which is the most optimal driver. I heared BCM4312 doesn't support hidden ESSID, and I'd like to have that capability but is it that impotent?

    Use b43.

  • Sidebar losing highlight to which drive file is in

I hope I can describe this in a way that makes sense...When I am using the sidebar finder, I have my HD and a server showing on the left side. If I navigate to a file (let's say on my HD) and I do not have it in multi-column view, the HD is no longer highlighted. Therefore, I no longer have a visual confirmation of whether I am finding files on the HD or the server.
This seems to work fine if I stay in multi-column view, but once I choose one-column or icon view I can't see which drive I'm selecting from
. Is there a preference or update I can adjust?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The top of the window is showing the last layer of folder, the problem is I need to keep track of the root of the folders.
    In other words:
    macHD/work/project1/folder1/file
    vs.
    server/work/project1/folder1/file
Once I get the file level, top of the sidebar would only show "folder1" and no longer highlights the root folder in the left column. This is happening on 2 of my computers that both have Tiger 10.4.5 installed on them. There do not appear to be any more recent updates.

  • Looking at External SSD Drive for Lightroom Editing - How Can I Set This Up and Which Drive?

I'd like to purchase an external SSD drive for Lightroom editing and am hoping somebody can provide a recommendation for me.
I'm using a FW800 G-Drive to store my Lightroom Library and have been using this drive to edit.  I'd like to add an external SSD drive for editing photographs an am looking for recommendations on which drive and the best way to set this up.  I plan on having a 3rd (and maybe 4th) to save both the FW800 files and working SSD drive files as a backup.
    Any recommendations are sincerely appreciate.

I believe I was loading a preview file to 100%.  I think maybe I should just use what I have and work with it.  It's much faster than my 7 year old MBP performed that's for sure.
I was just wondering if I could spend a few hundred for an external Thunderbolt or USB 3 drive to speed up my productivity.  With the full time job and the kids, I have a little time to work on photography.  I'd love to increase my output.  I'm more than willing to spend the money on the TB or USB 3 if it would help.
The specs on the camera say 24.1 million pixels:  24.6 MB.  The raw files are

  • Is E65 more stable than a MICROSOFT phone?

When I bought my phone I wanted a phone with more funcinalities than a convetional one (email, Internet, 3G, GPS software, etc) so I had two possibilites:
1.- Buy a phone based on Microsoft OS (such HTC, Imate, etc)
2.- Buy a Nokia phone based in SYMBIAN.
I decided to go to a NOKIA because I thougt that it was going to be more stable than the Microsoft BUT now I can see that it is not true.
My first E65 has the keypad with the light broken. I changed it and got a new one. Now it´s reboot a couple of times a day (somedays up to 4 times). Sometimes it reboot without reason (the phone over the table) and other times it makes when I´m in a call. In NOKIA service they told me to disconet the 3g, but it doesn´t help to solve the problem.
Other times, the Explorer close alone when I´m in internet (I heared that the phone gets without memore and has to close the program, Stupid!!!).
My friends with MICROSOFT have some problems, but they are less than the NOKIA and NEVER has the phone hung during a call!!!.
I hope the problem to be solved by a firmware version but we have to wait NOKIA to decide that the phone has problems.....

Which firmwar version do you have?. I have the 1.0633.18.01. RM-208. Perhaps the problem is a firmware version.
My phone reboot automacally and it makes a lot of times during a call. That is very frustating. I´ve heared in other forums and in this forum that those stability problems are common in this phone.
There could be 3 reason for the problem:
1.- Firmware problem: Very easy to solve by Nokia. I believe that it is the cause of the problem (too many posts with stability problem to a hard problem)
2.- Hardware bug of this model: That is imposible to solve. The doubt is that there are people that don´t have any problem (as you).
3.- Hardware problem in this unit: If it is the cause I have to send it to NOKIA and be without my bussines phone for 20 days. That´s mean no blackberry mail, no contact (I have almost 1000 and there isn´t any tradicional phone or SIM that support that amount...)
In the past I had a Imate SP3 with windows and didn´t had any problem with it (some times it makes strange but never interrumped me a call).
So everybody can see that I´m "very happy" with this phone...
PLEASE, NOKIA, PUBLISH NEW FIRMWARE FOR THE PHONE THAT SOLVE PROBLEMS.

How come you choose the thin driver? Oracle will generally

give far superior performance when dealing with LOBs.We have actually had faster response getting thin driver fixes
than OCI-based fixes. Thats interesting. I'll take note of it.
The 10g driver works with RAC, is much faster than previous
drivers, and is easier to install etc. OCI users are often

  • 2.3 ghz G5 DP or 1.33 ghz G4 DP - which is more reliable

Which is more reliable for use as a small email server ? The G5 model has heat pipes making the shelf life shorter.
    I have 2 single processor 1ghz G4s that haven't quit working since day 1.

I'd go with the G5 on the basis that the G4 has to be, what, 7 years old now? Pure mechanical wear on the drives and the power supply in particular mean you're probably living on borrowed time.
That's not to say the G4 is going to break, though, and you could certainly put a new drive in it to reset that particular counter. Given that you have two of them you could even use the other as a spare, depending on what else it's doing.

Hi all, I've got the usual problem, i have a Satellite A60 with the pioneer DVR-K13A and guess whats, it's just out of warentee and it now doesn't read/burn cd's and dvd's.
Tried all the usual fixes, all to no avail.
So im going to replace the drive and my question is which drives can i replace it with? Can i replace it with a SD-R2412 drive?
Any info on direct replacements would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

    Hi
    This drive should works:
    DVD-ROM drive SD-C2612-10E
    Supported formats: DVD-R/W, DVD-R(read), DVD-RAM, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW
Unfortunately I dont found more compatible drive but if you want to buy another one you can ask the Toshiba service in your country. There you will get a information about ALL compatible drives and additionally you can order the 100% supported drive.

  • Is Aperture more stable w/ larger libraries (esp. Faces)?

I have a large library of nearly 30,000 photos that has been with me essentially since 2005.  I've made several attempts at going through and tagging faces, but continue to find iPhoto slow and that it occasionally forgets faces that I've tagged.  I've gone through events as many as three times only to come back in a few months to find that there are faces that I *know* I tagged showing up as untagged.
I'm wondering if Aperture's more professional nature and that it's developed on a more modern 64 bit codebase would mean that it would be more stable with Faces in larger libraries?  This is my personal photo library, but I am quite familiar with Apple's more professional offerings in Final Cut Pro X, which I use nearly daily.

+1 to William's post.  I kept Faces off until 3.1.3 (iirc).  It's been stable since then.  Afaict, if you don't use Faces even though it is enabled, it doesn't slow you down much (and then, only at import).  On large Libraries (more than 100,000 Images) Faces runs a little bit slow.  When using Faces, it is best to use it at the Project(s) level rather than the Library level.  (Léonie has posted some helpful hints on the forum -- try a search.)  And of course many problems and confusions can be avoided by reading the User Manual.  Here is the section on Faces.
All-in-all, I find it only moderately more useful than simply keywording Images with the names of people in them.
IME, it has been completely reliable since I turned it on (no lost or misplaced data).  I suggest running "Repair" and perhaps even "Rebuild" on your Library before turning Faces on.  Back-up first (always, but just a precaution; I have yet to hear of a single case of Libraries being vitiated by either action.)
