Which DVI cable for my PowerMac

Hello,
I am almost positive I am going to purchase an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition for my Quicksilver G4 but I have a few questions first. I have a Westinghouse 22" LCD monitor. My understanding is that the Radeon 9800 has DVI-I output and the Westinghouse has DVI-D input (along with VGA). The card and monitor will work together through the DVI connection right? I believe DVI-I sends out both digital and analog signals while the DVI-D only accepts digital. Which cable should I get and where would I purchase it? Any suggestons?
Thanks,
Brandon
P.S Here are links to both items I mentioned.

DVI-D Cables are compatible with DVI-I but not the reverse ( due to DVI-D lacking the analog pins )
A male DVI-D can plug into a female DVI-I
A male DVI-I can NOT plug into a female DVI-D

  • Which FireWire Cable for Macbook Pro to Macbook Pro Migration Assistant?

    Hi,
I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro 15" (standard - not retina display) and am planning to transfer my files via the Migration Assistant. My question is, I currently have a mid 2009 macbook pro (2.8GHz, 4GB) and was wondering which firewire cable I need to purchase - there are so many different types!
    Thanks!

Hold T and boot the old Mac's drive to the desktop of the new one or do so during Setup Assistant or later with Migration Assistant.
Setup Assistant runs only once, at first startup when fresh out of the box or when freshly reinstalled from scratch. Migration Assistant is a regular application found in the Utilites folder.
If you're going to move all your stuff over, the easiest and least problematic way is via Setup Assistant. Since the computer is in a completely blank state when SA runs, it can create identical user accounts, permissions, etc., as the original source. MA is an app that runs on an already configured and running system and, hence, can't duplicate user accounts, modify permissions that are already in use, etc.: this can cause vexing issues for new users that may not be to well versed in multiuser operating system administration.

  • Which LCD cable for Lenovo IdeaPad S12 (Series: 2959)

    Hi!
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S12 for three years now... and I am generally really happy with it
Since a few weeks, however, my display is not working properly anymore. Depending on the angle, certain colors change their appearance (white colours flicker blue-ish and dark colors show red-ish flickers). I have already stopped by a Laptop repair shop and the guy said that I need a new LCD cable and the hardware should be ok.
Does anybody know which exact cable I need? I have found three different cables on offer:
    50.4CI11.001
    50.4CI11.002
    50.4CI12.001
Is it possible to say only with my series number (2959) which of the three I need?

  • Which mac cable for projector?

Can anyone tell me which mac cable I need for a macbook 13" aluminum, purchased mid-2008?
    Many thanks!

i guess itsa standard 3.5mm jack cable, same same used for ipod headphones..
im guessing the monitor has a female connector, in which case you need a 3.5mm male-male jack cable.
should pick one up on ebay for about 2 or 3 pounds. 5 or 6 dollars

  • Which FW cable for Transfer and Future use?

    Hi,
Will be starting up a new imac 21.5" Intel i3 soon and have been advised to purchase a 400 - 800 FW cable for the Setup Assistant transfer.
I have multiple older devices currently, a mini DV movie camera, a Pentax digital camera, iPod, etc, some of which use FW and some use USB 2.0.
Should I buy a 800 - 800 cable to keep for these devices that use FW
(movie camera) and a 400 to 800 adapter for the single use of transferring rather than a 400 - 800 cable?
Am I overthinking this? Just want to buy the right piece the first time and not have to make two separate cable purchases ( 400-800 and 800-800 ) instead of a cable and an adapter which should be less expensive?

So this isn't a 400mbs Firewire unit? The info in the pulldown under the Apple "About This Mac" pretty much said it was?
Do you have a port that looks like this, if so it's FW 400.
After going to the link and entering my serial #, all I got were instruction on upgrading memory and installing an Airport card.
Huh, they must not archive manuals that far back from this site.

  • Which Firewire Cable for my MacPro?

I was just about to connect my new external HD to my MacPro, but found out that the Firewire cable doesn't match my MacPro.
When I did a search for buying Firewire 800 cables, three different types showed up! Which Firewire 800 cable to I need for my MacPro 2.93GHz?

There is only one FW800 cable type used by your MP. It's a 9-pin nearly square connector. If you have a cable with a 6-pin rectangular shaped connector, then that is a FW400 cable.

  • Which firewire cable for new MacBook Pro and Canon HV20?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and want to transfer video from my Canon HV20 camcorder (using FinalCut Express). The Canon instructions say to use a "DV cable" and I've learned that the MacBook Pro only has an "800 fire wire" port. Can someone give me the exact type of cable that I should get (even my local Apple Store couldn't help me).
    Thanks!

I'm surprised that the folks at the Apple Store couldn't guide you. You just need a firewire cable with the proper fw400 connector on one end and a fw800 connector on the other. Here's one source for both cables and adapters:

  • Which ethernet cable for TC

Sorry for the stupid question: I have a bunch of old ethernet cables lying around, but want to make sure I have the fastest one to connect my MacPro Quad 2.66 to my TC. It's only a 6 foot run. What do I need to look for when buying? Cat 5e? A certain mhz? And should it be crossover?
    Thanks.

Gigabit Ethernet operates at a frequency of only 31.25 MHz. Most Category 5e cable I've seen is labeled 350 MHz and is supposedly tested to that frequency.
The TIA standard for twisted pair copper gigabit Ethernet cable only requires a rating of 100 MHz.
You don't need a crossover since all recent Macs and Airports are autosensing.

  • Is there a thunderbolt-dvi cable for the ipadmini

I have an older 23" Cinema Display that works fine, connected with USB 2 to a Mac aluminum keyboard, would love to be able to connect my ipadmini to it, and use the aluminum keyboard for typing. Does such a thing exist?

No iPad has thunderbolt on it.

  • Which DVI connector for MacBook Pro model 3,1?

I assume the DVI out on the 2007 MacBook Pro (model identifier 3,1) is a nonstandard DVI and requires a DVI-to-DVI adapter? It looks like a fullsize connector that I could attach with a standard DVI, but I thought I needed a 30.00 adapter, is this true?

The connector that will be used on your MBP has to reflect the input requirements of you TV.  Newer ones will have HDMI inputs, older ones may have VGA.  In both instances, you will have to supply audio to your TV via the audio output port of your MBP.
To give you an idea, look at these representative examples:

  • Replace DVI cable for 20in Cinema Display

Need to replace the DVI portion on the power/connector coming from the back of the display. It was ripped out when someone attempted to steal. Is this possible or do I have to buy another monitor?

Apple or an authorized repair center can fix it, but it may not be worth the cost.

  • What DVI cable to get for new Macbook

i have recently bought a macbook. i want to connect it to my HD tv, i have recently bought a DVI cable to connect them, it was the Apple - Video adapter - mini-DVI (M) - HD-15
However the cable did not fit inside the port in which it was supposed to.
Could someone please help me find the correct DVI cable for my new macbook containing a MiniDisplay Port.
    Thankyou for your time

Apparently you purchased an adaptor for a Mini-DVI port, but you need one for a Mini-DisplayPort.
If you are connecting to a TV you probably should get an adaptor for Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI and an HDMI cable to go from the computer to one of the HDMI ports on the TV.

  • DVI cable choice

Could someone just confirm for me which dvi cable to buy to connect my mac mini to a lcd monitor? I've been looking on the net and there are dvi male to male, male to female, then there's dvi-i and dvi-d and dual and single link ones?? Just want to make sure I get the right one. Cheers.

I just bought mine. I bought male to male and just single. The double is for bigger screens I believe. I hope this helps you.

  • What kind of DVI Cables does the Mini Take?

I want to get a DVI cable for my iLo 15in LCD but I'me confussed with the type get. I know that The Mini and my monitor are DVI male but at the mini's output after the grid of pin inlets theres a horizontal and vertical inlet that makes a plus sign look along with one inlet in each space. The DVI to VGA Adapter on the DVI ( female ) side has same plus sign pins but in the large grid of pins, there a gap in the middle. The mini doesn't have that gap on the output.
On the LCD's DVI input, it has that entire grid of pin inlets ( holes ) with no gap but next to the grid there is only one horizontal inlet. It does'nt have that plus sign look like the mini's output. Nor does it have those four inlets on each side of the cross. It's just has a horizontal inlet.
I'm not familiar with DVI so I'm confused. Some cables on the market hace that cross and the gap in the middle of the pins, some only have the horizontal pin and the grid of pins with no gap. ( Help )!!!!!!!!!

I'm not completely following you, mostly cause my math sklls bl0w.
But I think you're making a distinction, perhaps without knowing it, between a DVI and an ADC connnector.
Digital Video Input is the first connector you refer to, I believe.
Twenty four pins in a 3 x 8 config and the section for video color you refer to as the plus sign. This is technically 5 pin.
The other connector sounds like an Apple Disply Connector (or ADC). These are 30-pin in a 3 x 10 config plus the video color 5-pin.
You can get picture perfect clear on this here

    hope this helps you bro.
