  • Need to know which is better and faster for laptop memory upgrade

    What is the difference and which is better for a laptop memory upgrade:  SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, SIMM?  One site suggested DDR SDRAM and BB suggested SO DIMM

    SODIMM is the physical form factor of the module, DDR SDRAM is the actual memory type.
    SIMMs are an ANCIENT form of memory module.  If you have a system that uses SIMMS, you will spend less money throwing your computer in the trash and buying a new one.
    Non-DDR SDRAM is also ancient.
    Each system can only use one type of memory, i.e. you can't use DDR memory in a system that only used non-DDR memory, and you can't use DDR2 memory in a DDR system.
    To find out if the configuration is 2x256 or 1x512, you'll need to look at what is installed.

    Which is better and why: Safari or Firefox?

    Thx, I've been using FF on my MacBook, as I did with PowerMacs before that. I used to work in the industry and stay up on current trends; but, I'm just a regular user with a new MacAir now and hate to bother my SF/SJ peeps with trivial questions.
    As I start to load up the Air, I'm just a bit overwhelmed with the volume of bookmarks I've collected and organzied in FF on my MB.

  • Which is better and why a = new String("AA") or a = "AA"

    Hi,
    Which is better and why
    String a = new String("AA") or
    String a = "AA"
    Does invoking a construtor waste memory? Please explain in detail.
    Thanks in advance
    Deepak

    > So in case "AA" not there in string pool,
    That is not correct.
    does new creates "AA" on string pool as well as heap memory?Yes. The literal "AA" points to a pooled String object. The new operator creates a new String object with the same character sequence ("AA"). You can verify this with a little code...
    String s = new String("AA");
    assert s != "AA";
    assert s.equals("AA");
    assert s.intern() == "AA";~

    which is better and newer, mcafee virus scan v6 or pc cillin 2000?

    edison,
    I run without a Virus Smasher Program.  If I am going to download something I run Housecall.  Also I do not use Outlook or Outlook Express for email so I do not get those types of attacks.
    You could try Housecall here:
    Trend Micro's free online virus scanner
    This thing is a browser plugin.  Does not run unless you are on their site. It is Free. It does not take up any recourses.  It is Free. It is always up to date. It is Free. It never expires. It is Free. You never need to register to use it. Oh, and did I mention it is FREE!!!   :D

  • Updating 3GS from 3.1.2 to 6.1.3 taking way too long. Is there a better and faster way?

    How long does it take to update an original 3GS to 6.1.3? I followed the iTune instructions and it has been updating for hours already. Is there a better and faster way to do this?

    SO if I want to represent the London Underground
    network as a Graph how would I be able to do it?By writing classes of your own or using some one else's. I don't think that the collections framework has out-of-the-box support for graphs.... So try google first.
    The implementation details depend on the API you are going to use, of course...
    from A to B 5 min
    from B to C 4 min
    from A to C 9 min
    this information is redundant, the third info should be omitted. <nit-picking>
    No it's not - What if there's a special, more direct route from A to C? Also, getting from A to B to C will usually take more time than the time from A to B plus the time from B to C. The trains have to stop at B, don't they?
    </nit-picking>
    Maybe this approach is more complex, but it solves the problem Have I understood correctly - isn't what you describe just another way to implement a graph?

  • Which performs better for windows development, bootcamp or parallels?

    I have an imac at home and am using parallels to host a w7 vm, wherein I do some web and db development.  It is quite sluggish at times.  I think i may need to tweak the config to perhaps allocate more ram to it but i'm not sure.  I just picked up a macbook pro gen2 i7 and before I install a w7 vm or parttition i was wondering which is better, parallels or bootcamp?  I do like the interactivity that parallels gives me with respect to files between the w7 vm and lion, but am wondering it that is perhaps the achilles heal when it comes to performance.
    what's the preferred route by other developers out there?
    Thanks!

    that's what i thought.  thanks for confirming.  it sounds like i might be able to use parallels ALSO later on to access the windows bootcamp partition, based on reading another thread.

    Performance wise which is better IN or EXISTS and why..DomBrooks pointed out that it may not matter due to query optimization rewrites.
    In theory it depends on circumstances.
    Correlated EXISTS subqueries tend to be efficient if the lookup is properly indexed. If the list of values is very small (especially if you only get one value) an IN subquery might be more efficient.

  • Question: Which is better and why....RMAN catalog or Flashback Recovery

    Hey All,
    Newly testing and reading up on 10g. I am on information overload and would appreciate pro's advice on which to choose and why.
    Thanks,
    d.

    Different things, not necessarily alternative. That is, RMAN catalog is normally (at least should be) on another machine, and does not contain physical backups, but only information about them : physical backups are normally stored on external devices, like tapes.
    Flashback Recovery technique is based on Flashback logs in Flash Recovery Area, which is a disk area on local machine, and so cannot be unlimited.
    Therefore, Flashback Recovery is much faster than Media Recovery, since you don't need to restore anything, but you have limits in using that : your disks size.
    On the other hand, RMAN backups are safer, being physically elsewhere.

  • SAP BW or BO ? Which is better and why

    Hi,
    I dont know much about SAP BW so I am not able to compare which one is better.
    It would be great if someone could help me comparing these tools.
    Which one is better and why ?
    If a user is already using SAP BW and planning to start using SAP BO what could be the features he would go for ?
    I am thinking from the sales perspective for Business Objects to a BW user.
    Regards,
    Chinmay

    Hi,
    Someone might be able to provide you with the comparitive chart or a tabular format to make you understand the differences but I would say that SAP itself has designed the roadmap for the product integration wherever it suited the needs.
    I would like you go through the roadmap of SAP BI and BO integration and you would be able to yourself compare what is in and what is out and why.

  • Hey, I want to buy a macbook pro or imac mini, I want to know which is better and why, is their going to be new macbooks ect released in 2-3 months thats better that i should rather wait for? Or buy one now ?

    Please help me i dont know which one to buy, and ive never owned one before but i have used my friends quite alot. Why is macbook's worth buying if you can get many products for the same price with better specs ?What makes it unique that it dominates basically the whole world.

    Hey,
    Thank's 4 the advice , but one of my main problems is I live in South Africa and apple products is x2 as much as what the usa doller is for it. Eg Macbook pro starting price $1199 american dollars and directley converted to South African currency is R9160.30.... but the problem is if i want to buy it in my country it has been marked up alot and a Macbook pro starting price for me will be R13000 for 13 inch and if you directley convert our price into american dollers its $1704.30 american dollars, so thats +600 dollers more.
    So its much more expensive to buy products in my country and thats just the starting price.
    I want mobality but i was also thinking (imac mini) is kinda portable and can plug into any1  T.V u know.
    So like i really do t know what to get and that, because its alot more money to spend than the US dollar.
    So i really want you to put your self in my position you know...
    And what is classified as a good monitor???
    And i want to know why my friends say that the imac mini is pathetic , but i think it losts longer than most windows laptops, what do you think ??
    And can i who lives in south africa buy products directley from apple them selves ??
    Thank's man , hope you can help me out here!
    Hope other people can c this 2

  • Which is Better or Faster?

    I have a "prog 1" which does some incremental updates on a table.
    Then "prog 2" needs to do processing based on the changed values.
    Which approach listed below is better?
    1) Create a column UpdatedDate in the table and have a desc index on it.
    Prog1 Updates that date whenever it does an update in the table.
    Prog2 can get only the updated values after the last run time of the program 2 ?
    2) Create a column i.e. Changed_flag which will values i.e. NULL or 'Y'.
    Prog1 updates the flag to 'Y' whenever it performs updates on the table.
    Prog 2 does the processing based on the data where the flag is 'Y'.
    Once processing is over nullify the column.
    So which one sounds better??
    Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts or pointers?
    Regards

    Looking just at the requirements you given, a flag would seem to be the better solution of the two.
    - A b*tree index doesn't index NULL values, so the index on the changed_flag column will be relatively small and relatively quick to full scan. That's probably better than range scanning a larger date index for the same number of rows.
    - Generally, keeping statistics up to date for a date-based column requires a bit more work (you need to make sure that Oracle knows what the max date is in order to ensure that it can estimate cardinality and selectivity, but your max date keeps increasing). It's easy enough to ensure that the stats are right, but it may be easier not to have that problem.
    Either way, you'll need to ensure that you manage concurrency (i.e. if prog 1 updates a row between the time that prog2 queried it and the time that it processes the change).
    At the same time, though, last updated date columns can be more generally useful than a changed flag, so look to see whether other processes could benefit from using a last updated date instead.
    Depending on your needs, you might also consider creating a queue using Oracle AQ and having prog 1 or a trigger enqueue events that prog 2 would dequeue and process.

  • Editing Red Dragon Raw 6k Footage with Premiere CC and/or CC 2014 - Which is better and what issues should I expect?

    Hi All
    As the title asks;
    1. Are there any known issues when Editing Red Dragon raw 6k footage in Premiere Pro CC/CC14 ?
    2. Which version of the software would be the best choice ? CC/CC 2014 (I have both)
    This is my first Red Dragon 6k Project in premiere CC software and although I have used CC extensively since its release  I am working with a tight turnaround so making sure I have as much info as possible to troubleshoot. (if needed)
    This question is directly related to the software and any known issues.  It is not hardware related as we are setup for that side of things with very fast SSD -> Thunderbolt storage and powerful machines.
    Any info or experiences would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Piers

    Hi Piers - did you ever get an answer or figure out a good workflow for editing 6K in premiere?
    If so, i'd appreciate you sharing what you've learned.
    Thanks!
