Which is better wifi or wifi with celluar?

Daughter recommended not to get wifi with celluar. Just the wifi for the Apple ipad air 2 that I am thinking of buying. Read the different between the two just was not sure what to do. Any recommendations?????

Is it safe to use public WiFi......my son-in-law said it is fine he uses it all the time no problem. He is a business man. However, our son who is a techie person said never to use public Wifi because it is not safe and could lead to problems if someone accesses your computer. Any input????
We want away to Puerto Rico. They hotel we were staying at had free Wifi....saw lots of people using it in the lounge area but I declined cause of our son's warming.....
any input from anyone?????

Better for what? These are two very different computers. Tell us which things you are looking for and we may be able to help you. Examples - weight, standard RAM and flash memory available, video resolution, etc.
See the technical specifications articles for each -

  • Which is better to sync, wifi or iCloud?

I heard that you shouldn't sync with itunes and icloud.  Which is better, and how do you set that up?

Where did you hear you shouldn't use these?
You're comparing apples and oranges. Wifi sync is a way to wirelessly sync with iTunes on your Mac or PC. This includes content that you've purchased, content that you've ripped from your own CD collection, as well as things like playlists, song ratings, etc. This is just to replace plugging in your USB cable as you've always had to do in the past.
iCloud is a way to store some of your content on Apple's servers and retrieve it on any iCloud enabled device. Note this includes only content you've purchased (music, movies, tv shows) or content you've created using iCloud-enabled apps like Pages, Numbers, or Keynote. iCloud doesn't let you sync "metadata" such as playlists, song ratings, etc. if you add a song to a playlist on your iPhone, it won't show up on that same playlist on your iPad, Mac, or PC because you use iCloud. It only gets moved on those other devices after you sync. iCloud also provides a means to keep calendars, contacts, notes, and reminders the same across multiple devices. Finally, iCloud let's you backup your device to the cloud instead of to your Mac or PC, which is handy feature as you don't have to worry about losing your backup should your Mac or PC fail.
You can choose to use iCloud and not wifi sync, or use wifi sync and not iCloud, or use both or use neither. They are independent of one another and provide different functions.
Personally, I use both. I wirelessly sync so my iDevices are up to date, and I take advantage of iCloud for my backups, calendar, contacts, etc.

  • Which is better JDBC or JTA with DAO pattern

    Hi,
I have developed DAO's for each of the tables in MySql database having around 10 tables, should I go for JTA or JDBC for transaction handling ?
What is a better approach for transactions spanning multiple tables like for example deleting a master record must delete all child records? Accessing data from 2 or more tables with select statements?
    Any examples on the same?

If it's all in the same database then it's still local.
Distributed transactions use a transaction manager (TM) and things called resource managers (RM) to manage transaction. The TM co-ordinates with all the RMs and the RMs use local transactions to communicate with whatever transactional system you are using. If you only have one database you only have one RM - in which case the TM is co-ordinating the RM with itself. If this is the case you don't need the TM and the RM can be bypassed by just configuring the transaction locally.
This still applies if you are using two separate systems that are not involved in the same transaction.
Essentially it's down to the different methods you use to get a connection - each connection method (not call!) will have it's own RM.

  • Which is better - 1 HTML page with multiple applet panels or 1 applet with

    Hi friends,
This is a critical doubt which decides the future of my project.
I have implemented a graph in which an html shows 3 panels on the screen via calling that applet 3 times.
Would it be good if we call that applet only once and modify the applet to show 3 panels?
    Thanks in advance

    hai paskal,
well having 3 panels in a single applet will not make a big difference when compared to having 3 diff applets with 1 panel each ...
what matters most is how u want to have ur web page ...
if you have 3 different applets then you can place them in a position according to ur wish ...
if it is one then all of them will be together ...

  • New Macbook Pro...Hard drive vs Flash...which is better?

I'm looking to upgrade my '07 iMac to a new Macbook Pro. I'm wondering whether to get the hard drive or flash drive....any suggestions as to which is better? Also, going with the Retina display I lose the DVD drive & would have to go with an external drive...is that display worth losing the drive??

    MarcusBenz wrote:
is that display worth losing the drive??
No. It's power hungry and it has issues.
I'm wondering whether to get the hard drive or flash drive....
Flash drive will give you less problems and is shock reistant, but the data you store on it can be accessed even if deleted.
There is a device from Cellibrite that can be used to gleam the password and retrieve all data of a flash based cell phone, iPad etc, even if deleted. So natually flash based computer will be added to the list and Apple is cooperating to do this at the request of the government for fast access/copying at Customs etc, regardless of Filevault.
So a traditional hard drive offers a chance to really delete data, provided the 7x erase (far right selection) is used.
It also seems Apple has removed the 0x and 7x descriptions from 10.7, 10.8 Disk Utility, just giving you secure and more secure options, not telling you the specifics because 7x is Department of Defense level erase, meaning special magnetic instruments can't be used to recover data off a 7x erased hard drive.
    going with the Retina display
Also you can't open it up, add RAM, remove/replace storage or fix it.
After three years when your AppleCare is up, you have to toss the Retina as nobody can repair it.
Unlike the 15" antiglare, it can go on a lot longer due to third party repair options, new drive, keyboard, more RAM, new fans etc.
Also the screen is viewable in nearly all conditions, unlike the Retina's glossy display.

  • Advice Needed... which is better?

Hello...  I am not a computer 'genius", but not a complete "computer idiot' either.  I have a question, and then I will give my reasoning, because maybe it matters in the decision.
Which is better, a PC (Gateway) with 6GB Ram, i5 processor, 1.5TB HD  or an Imac 4GB Ram, i3 processor, 1TB HD??
Basically, I have had a Dell 2GB Ram desktop for 7 years, which suited me fine. I ran CS3 on it with no problems.  I recently had a virus, and had to swipe my computer, and when I re-installed Adobe, my Premiere Pro will no longer allow me to edit properly (audio plays fine, while video lags and skips around during viewing).  I know it is time to get a new computer either way, and a few friends have told me that I really shouldnt be running Premiere Pro on 2GB of ram, and suggested at least 6GB.
I found a Gateway for $650 on bestbuy site with the above specs... but then someone I know, told me I would be better with an Imac with the specs above.  Is that possible that a 4GB mac would run better than the 6GB PC?
also..  will CS3 work on the Windows 7 PC, but if I get Mac system I will be using CS5.
I use Photoshop, and Premier Pro for simple music video editing (5-6min videos).  I do not do anything major..but want to at least be able to view what I am doing.
    thanks

While I don't agree that Macs are as inferior as some here claim, for your purposes an i5 iMac is certainly inadequate. The i7 quad core iMac is something else again; it can take up to 16GB of RAM, which is plenty for most applications. The particular i7 CPU in the iMac is also quite capable with a number of performance enhancing technologies on board. The big problem with the iMac, though, is that it comes with only one internal HDD; there is an added SSD option, but in my opinion it's still too expensive. For video you should have at least two internal drives and preferable three or four, as others here have said. External drives are generally slower, even if you use a FireWire 800 port. Sometime this year Apple may add a Thunderbolt port to the iMac, as they have to the MacBook Pro. This will be a game changer for external media, with unheard of flexibility in connectivity and the performance of Fiber Chanel at an affordable price. There are already external RAIDs coming to market with Thunderbolt connections. However, there is no date certain for such an iMac refresh.
For even semi-serious video you need some heavy iron, whether Mac or PC. There are some great Mac Pros available now with up to 12 cores on two 6 core Intel Westmere processors; however, even though I am a Mac fan, I'm sure you can build or get a BTO Windows PC with comparable specs for less. I suggest a minimum of four modern CPU cores to handle multi-threading and multi-tasking chores. At least two fast internal hard drives, four is preferable. And, of course, the more RAM the better, though this too will raise the price. You may not get the maximum RAM right away; the important thing is that the motherboard be able to support substantial RAM upgrades so that you can grow into it.
The challenge, even with PCs, is that a number of core technologies are changing right now. SixGb/s hard drives are becoming available but it would take a high-end and relatively new motherboard to support them properly. So, besides the question of which computer to get, you have to consider when to get it. If you need it right now, that narrows your choices somewhat because you cannot wait for these new technologies to come on line.
The most important thing to consider, though, is not to cheap out. Presumably you will be doing some real work on it, so think of this computer as an investment in your own future. Buy the most computer you can afford and a little bit more. Oh, and there is a new Version of Final Cut Pro coming out soon that will be Intel only and 64 bit capable, so Apple is moving ahead on this front, too. Remember, not all of Adobe's CS apps are 64 bit yet either. It's just one more technology in transition.
One point I will concede, however, is that Windows has better video drivers than OS X. Even on a Mac, running Windows in Boot Camp delivers better video frame rates than the Mac versions of the same apps running in OS X. So, for reasons of cost and better video support, a Windows PC is probably the way to go. PCs also have it over Macs in the number of options available. If you are not a techie yourself, I agree as well that it is probably a good idea to have someone who is built it custom for you. Of course, with a custom PC you won't get the kind of warrantee that comes from Dell or Apple, but the person who builds it for you will probably be able to service it as well.
Ultimately, of course, your budget is likely to govern the kind of PC you get more than your preferred specs. But even with Windows PCs you get what you pay for. A cheap PC is just that, a cheap PC. Inexpensive PCs are affordable because they use inferior components. Keep that in mind.

  • Which is better for phone protection?

Simple question, just looking for some advice from current owners of this phone.  I will be getting this phone within a few weeks and am planning on buying something so I have it for when I get the phone.
Which is better: a flip case with no screen protector, or a standard case with one?  I don't want to get the screen scratched (it happened on my current phone despite the Gorilla Glass), and I tend to put the phone in my pocket with my keys.
Also, are there any recommendations for a case/screen protector?  I haven't chosen a screen protector yet, but am looking.  Ideally, I'm looking for a screen protector that feels like there's not one on the screen, won't interfere with the stylus, and won't interfere with the quality of the screen.
Here's what I'm currently looking at on both sides for a case:
Flip Case (I looked at the official Samsung one but it doesn't appear to completely protect the phone.)
Standard Case (Open to other suggestions but this one seemed to have the best combo of protection and price.)

Some educational site are behind the times.  At times, they require software that isn't available on the ipad.  You should visit an apple store and try the educational site with the ipad.  Considering that you have an iMac, I'd lean in the direction of the iPad.

My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I'm not able to connect to internet through my wifi router, which is Sitecom 150N working fine with pc

I'm not able with ipod touch to connect to internet through my wifi router, which is Sitecom 150N working fine with pc

Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address when the iPod requested it. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix for this can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router model and version (the 150n designation is not a unique model), the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), is MAC address filtering being used, etc.

  • Treo800w: Wifi + Speaker = Suck (with wifi hint that should go in the sticky)

Hi all! Posting my first problem on these boards I've been through two Treo 800w's (I actually LOST one almost as soon as I got it, argh). Both 800w's had this speaker problem, although I didn't put all the pieces together until last week (I had been operating under the theory that the original Treo was suffering from intermittant speaker failure, possibly due to a cold solder joint- took some time to see that both units had the same problem, and only when wifi was on.)
When wifi is on (connected, unconnected, doesn't matter- but it's worse if wifi usage is heavy)- the speaker output sucks rocks. Speakerphone? Can't understand the speaker. Ring tones/notifications/etc? Crackly, awful.  Ask it to play music or video? It really sounds like the speaker is being physically damaged now, the distortion is so crackingly severe.
Turn the wifi off? The external speaker is sweet as pie. [Edit: That's overstatement. The external speaker still sucks compared to the one on my old free VX8300, but it's MUCH better than it is with the wifi turned on.]  Connect the USB earphones that come with the 800w? Sounds beautiful, no distortion whatsoever, and it doesn't matter if wifi is on or off in this case.
In summation: the wifi card being on totally screws up the external speaker, and even if you have the volume set to minimum where you can't hear it, it sounds like that poor speaker is dying if it's asked to play any sounds. Does anyone have a fix? (I bet it's a hardware problem and there IS no fix )
Edit: I just played with this a little. I turned the WiFi off and put a movie on the Media Player. It sounds OK-ish. With USB headphones, it sounds fantastic. Turn wifi on, and USB headphones sound fantastic (unchanged). Remove the headphones and go to the external speaker, the sound is extremely loud cracks and pops that are much louder than the sound generated by the movie. (MUCH louder...to the point that you can't hear the dialogue and worry that the speaker is being damaged.)
Edit edit: Interestingly, if you turn the phone off or on while sound is being played, you hear similar audio artifacts. They only persist while the phone is going on or off- and do not linger after the transition, unlike the wifi hardware, which generates louder artifacts the whole time it's powered on.
Also, one hint that's not in the stickied FAQ (for users in urban areas, mostly): If you can't get your wifi to connect and everything is set right on both ends: The antenna in your treo sucks. That's the price you pay for it being invisibly small. It's a good tradeoff.   Change the channel on your wifi access point to be as far away as possible from any other access point within reception range (If you have to pick, get as far away as you can from the loudest one). What I mean here is that you should get a laptop or a PC with wifi hardware, put it where you want your Treo to work, and find out what channel your wifi WAP is on, and what channel the WAP with the most signal strength is on. Set the channel of your wifi WAP to be as far away from the competition as possible. Channel 1 and channel 11 are common factory presets for 802.11b and 802.11g WAP's. I spent about three hours today trying to get my Treo to connnect to an AP it had been working fine with the day before... and as soon as I changed the channel to get away from an AP that was so soft the Treo didn't even list it (though my PC listed it at -45 dbm), it started working great. (To clarify, my wifi broke because someone put up a WAP that was far enough away that my Treo didn't even see it, on the same channel as my WAP.... and no amount of fiddling could fix it. However, changing my WAP's channel fixed it immediately.)

  • WiFi or WiFi with Cellular

I need and want to purchase the new iPad as I am a professional returning for advanced schooling at a University.  My program begins in September 2012.  I am in a quandry as whether or not to purchase the WiFi or Wifi w/cellular service.  The university program I will be enrolled in is mostly online for working professionals. I will have to attend several live class sessions.  I live very rural, do not have access to ATT or Verizons cellular carriers.  I have only one cell carrier that is accessible where I live.  I access my internet through my carrier's cellular modem (one of those very tiny devices that plus into a USB port on my Mac Mini.  I love it!)  It works far better than any other satellite  internet services I have had.  I work in a larger community with a number of WiFi hotspots available and may even be able to use my work internet connection with approval.  Would I be able to use my cellular service' modem device to connect?  Again, it is not ATT or Verizon?

  • Ipad mini wifi or wifi with cellular

I would like to buy the ipad mini as gifts this year. But I'm undecided as to which one I should get. I know the difference between the wifi and wifi cellular but can someone tell me if I buy the wifi cellular will they need to get a celluar service to use the pad or can they use it just with the wifi and they want in the future they can purchase the cellular.
I guess my question is, can you use the ipad wifi cellular with or without a monthly payment as long as there is free wifi?
    Thanks,

You do not need to activate the cellular service unless you want to.
It starts at about $20 per month for Verizon.
The Wi-Fi + Cellular works on Wi-Fi just fine just like the standard Wi-Fi model.
If you know you will never need the Cellular version, then you could just purchase the Wi-Fi model.
I know many friends that have bought the Wi-Fi with Cellular just in case they want to use the Cellular in the future.
You can purchase the Cellular service month by month and end it anytime you want without a contract.

  • Problmes with wifi turn off with disable greyish in window 8.1 pro 9600

    Hi,
I updated window 8 to window 8.1 pro build 9600 version.
I am getting a problem with WIFI turn off disable grayish color which cannot be enabled.
WIFI adapter is installed and working properly.
Plz suggest what will be the fix of this issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Did you mean the Adapter is greyed out and we cannot click to turn on it? Is there a wifi switch on your laptop? If so, please turn on it first.
Also please try the network troubleshooter to see if the issue can be fixed:
    1) Right Click network icon in taskbar and select "open network and sharing center"
    2) Highlight wifi connection then at top click "Diagnose this connection"
The troubleshooter will discover that the WiFi connection is turned off and offer a "Apply fix" option click that and windows will enable the wifi connection.
To make sure the driver for Network adapter is the right one, please go to manufacturer’s website to see if there is the one compatible with Windows 8.1.
If not, we can try to install the one applied to Windows 8 in compatible mode to see what’s going on.
Since such issue can be caused by driver bug, please also contact the manufacturer to see if they can provide more information about this issue.
