Which JDev version to use ???

Can anyone give me an advise on what JDev version I should use, 9.0.3.x, 9.0.4 or 9.0.5(10g) ?
I'm starting a project that involves Oracle 9i DB, Oracle 9i Application Server (Release 2), BC4J (ADF or whatever it's name is now) and JClient deployed via Java Web Start.
I hope to get this project in production this summer.
Since Oracle Application Server 10g isn't scheduled to be released until last quarter 2004 I can't wait for it. Will I be having problems developing on JDev10g (which will hopefully be released soon) and deploying to OAS9i R2? I'm quite lost in this forest of oc4j versions, ejb versions and JDev versions.

Thanks for your reply.
Now I'm wondering if it will be possible to deploy ADF projects (BJ4J and JClient) to pre-10g Application Server, preferably 9.0.2.x which we have up and running and are trying to avoid upgrading for now.
I also haven't found any good documentation on the JClient deployment, I followed the instructions for Java Web Start deployment of JClient but the JDev wizard and the create_jclient_ear.bat seem to make it a "local" deployment, i.e. the client (JClient running from Java Web Start) seems to connect straight to the database, doesn't use the BC4J EJB on the Application Server.

  • Which Jdev version to start with?

Hi all, I have played with java for some time and looked at early versions of Jdev but now want to use it in earnest myself to expand my skill sets. I work primarily with Oracle Applications and would like to create custom modules etc using Jdev and learn this development tool.
Which version should I start with? Is it better to look at 9 version rather than 10 as there are more resources etc and also more likely to be in use in the world of work?
Great if someone who uses it in the real world for development could give me some advice.
    Thanks Cel

There is no reason to start with 9i.
The way I see it is that you have two options right now:
10.1.2 - the current production version
or 10.1.3 - which is currently in a developer preview mode.
The decision factor can come down to which technology you are interested in. (for example JSF is only in 10.1.3).
But one more important factor is ADF which is not yet in the 10.1.3 preview - and is especially useful for people who are just starting with Java.
My suggestion is that you take 10.1.2 and run through the reviewer guide to understand what ADF gives you.
Then you'll have a better view point on which version to use.

  • How to get which JRE version is used during runtime?

    Hi.
I want to know in my application which JRE version the user is using. Is there some method in Properties Object?
    Thank you in advance

    System API tells all...
"The current set of system properties for use by the getProperty(String) method is returned as a Properties object. If there is no current set of system properties, a set of system properties is first created and initialized. This set of system properties always includes values for the following keys: "

  • Which JDEV Version

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked 837,343,566 times already, but I am confused with all the
    JDeveloper versions available.
I'll say I'm just about seasoning up from Core Java to EE, and therefore have decided to
use JDeveloper after some recommendations from friends.
I'm not confused regarding the editions, since I'll go for studio anyways.....but I'm confused
between 10g and 11g. What are the differences? and can I assume Tech Preview to be a
    stable release?
Finally, is 11g crash prone or is it safe to use, or should I just use 10g for now?
    Thanks.

    Hi!
The 11g is relatively stabile by my experience - you can use it for development with 10g platform nicely. Be warned that some things in TopLink / ADF 11g are not finished yet (havn't tested BC's as I'm not using them), so problems with running your app may occur.
The 11g is a big step forward comparing to 10g so I will not go for 10g if it is not required by your client. On the other hand, I don't know the timeframe for 11g production (as you know Oracle is TOP SECRET on this - so we are to pray for clue how to plan our technology strategy for next year).
    Regards,
    PaKo
P.S. There are still some issues with UTF-8 support. There are promisses from JDev team that they will fix them, but again - no timeframe.

  • Which Service Version to use for EhP4

    Hi all,
We are upgrading our portal and ECC6 system and implementing ESS. We believe we have consulted the right notes and docs and have correct versions installed.
    We are on...
    SAP_BASIS 701 SP7
    SAP-HR 604 SP27
    EA-HR 604 SP27
    BP ESS 1.41 SP8
    SAP  ESS 603 SP7
My question isn't involving version mismatches. hopefully we have that right per the wiki which outlines this. My question is for the BP content when there are multiple versions of a service available such as essusfam/Per_Family_US & essusfam/Per_Family_US_13 which should we run. We have installed eHP4 versions but have not activated eHP4 features. Does this mean we effectively have to run the initial java (EhP0) versions until we activate such features?
    Thanks,
    Doug

no all services are not same, You can easily not use the new services by not activating the business functions of this enhancement package
read the documentation here we have labelled each service

  • Which DB version to use for Oracle CMSDK

    Hi ,
We are planning to upgrade our iFS 9.0.1 instance to CMSDK.The current configuration has
    1) iFS 9.0.1
    2) DB 9.0.1.1
I'm wondering which is the best configuration for the upgrade.
    CMSDK(9.0.3)
    With
    1) 9.0.1 DB
    2) 9.2
    3) 9.2.0.3
We tried 9.2 since it has significant bug fixes ,but we can't do late binding context search with this configuration due to bug. Has anyone tried the CMSDK with 9.2.0.3 Version.
    Looking forward for your replies.
    Thanks
    Rajesh Basawa

Please read the installation guide for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96699_01/toc.htm
It states that you may use Oracle Database version 9.0.1 or above, so I would say that you may use any of the 3 versions you suggest. The later version the better, so I would recommend 9.2.0.3.
Just make sure you follow the installation guide and ensure that all database, hardware, and operating system requirements are met.

Is the appserver compatible with any 1.4.x release and should we take the most recent one ? (1.4.2_04)
tx for any info on this.
    Roger.

It is not mandatory that we should use 1.4.2_04,it wil work with any 1.4.x releases..

  • Does anyone control which compiler version is used?

    hi,
does anyone control which version of javac/jikes et al is being used for large projects?
as I understand it its very unlikely to make a difference modulo the recent bugs in the 1.5 compiler?
ie if you don't specify the source or target flags then not a lot can go wrong?
in summary, is the assertion that controlling the compiler version used in the way that you might for native C/C++ projects in a java project is much less likely to have any impact?
    thanks,
    asjf

Everyone on a project should be working to the same version.A third party product we needed, "Active Merchant" works only with java version 1.3.
(I tried it and it really does not work with either 1.2 or 1.4) . This product consists of a client library (an API) which you can use in your application, and which communicates with the other part, the server .
Now we did not want to use 1.3 in the application server because of this circumstance, so we were forced to write an own auxiliary application in 1.3, which can be reached through the network and which talks to the given API, that in turn talks to the server.
So one guy working on that little own auxiliary application was working with 1.3, whereas the others were working with 1.2 (the old version f our application) and 1.4 (the new version of our application).
Moreover all those guys were one person (your humble narrator) in different "roles", that is, working on different parts of the project.

  • Which OracleLite version to use?

I wish to install OracleLite but am unsure which version, 8i or 9i, will work with an old oracle database (RDBMS Version 7.3.4.5.0. )
    Thanks

Oracle7 is no longer supported with Oracle Lite. You need at least 8.1.7.

  • Which Java version to use as administrator

    Hello all,
Probably this question is silly, but I'm facing many problems working with Java and the different products related to my tasks as sysadmin. In my PC I need java 1.4.2.12 to be installed for Download Manager (with other versions it simply doesn't work), but I also need version 6 so as to access the different functions in SAP PI 7.10.
I have tried using Java Web Start to deactivate the version I don't need at a certain moment, but I had no success and I still have problems. Right now I had to de-install Java6 so as to download a SP Stack.
How are you dealing with this problem?
    Thanks and Regards
    Francisco

    Hi all,
Finally the SAP Support gave me a solution. You have to edit the SAP DownloadManager configuration placed in (typically):
    c:\Program Files\SAP Download Manager\Download Manager.lax
Edit the .lax file and find the following section:
      LAX.NL.CURRENT.VM
    Edit the parameter as follows:
      LAX.NL.CURRENT.VM
the VM to use for the next launch
    lax.nl.current.vm=C:
    Program Files
    Java
    j2re1.4.2_12
    bin
    java.exe
Note: (the backslashes are double in the parameter value)
Close the file and that's all.
This way you'll force Download Manager to use that JRE version, no matter if you have more recent versions installed in your computer.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Best Regards
    Francisco

  • Which LabVIEW version is used for CLA exam?

The CLA Exam Preparation Guide (link) states that LabVIEW 2009 will be installed on the test computer.  Is this still true?  If not, is there an official "Current LabVIEW Version for Certification Exams" link/document that is updated when it changes?  If not, there should be - this seems to come up a lot.
I'm writing the exam at NI week, if that matters.

I used 2010. But it shouldn't really matter that much. I can not think of anything in 2010 that would have made the test any different.

  • Long term release of CriticaL Patch Updates: which database version to use?

    Hello,
The company i work for ask me to mak a plan to stay up-to-date with each quarterly released CPU's (Critical patch update)
We have 11.1.0.7 databases and 11.2.0.2 databases.
When i look at the latest CPU, docid 1455387.1 , i notice that for each final RDBMS release, a CPU is relased for a very long time, but for recent releases it is not.
For exampe for release 11.1.7.0 a CPU is relased until July 2015, but for 11.2.0.2 final CPU ends already at January 2013.
For 10.2.0.5 i noticed the same behaviour.
    This makes me think....
In my opinion i would never upgrade from 11.1 to release 11.2, until the final 11.2. release come out, if i want to stat up-to-date with the cpu's.
    Am i right?
And does this mean that if new applications neeed in our company need an 11g daatbase, i better install 11.1.0.7 rather then 11.2?
(if the application does not need 11.2 funtionality of course)
    Any comment is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Harry

Pl see support policies on pages 2 thru 4 in this doc - http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-technology-069183.pdf. CPU patches are available only during Premier and Extended Support.
Details are in this MOS Doc
Lifetime Support and Support Policies - Oracle Database Overview [ID 1351163.1]
Release and support schedule is published - see this MOS Doc
Release Schedule of Current Database Releases [ID 742060.1]
It is always recommended to upgrade to the latest database version available, even if you do not need the features. A possible option is to perform upgrades on a yearly basis to whatever is the latest version available and apply CPUs/PSUs for four quarters until the next upgrade cycle

We have no experience with this. I advice you to post a question in the JDeveloper forum and see if the JDeveloper Wizard supports UIX 2.1.20, because that is the version of UIX that will be used after you copied the UIX libraries we supply. If not, you should restore the libraries as delivered with JDeveloper.

Version 2.1.20 is beyond 2.1.7. I don't know what version is delivered with JDeveloper 9.0.3 but I as far as I know, JDeveloper 9.0.4 comes with UIX version 2.1.19.
I do not think there is that much difference between the UIX version as delivered with JDeveloper and 2.1.20, that you cannot succesfully use the online UIX Developers Guide of JDeveloper. For questions about UIX, please refer to the UIX forum (technologies -> UIX) or the JDeveloper forum.
