Which Mac should I upgrade to if I am a Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign user, with a little iMovie thrown in?
I've been using a 24" iMac (originally purchased in mid-2006) to do graphic design with Adobe Creative Cloud, primarily Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator. I am also starting to do some very ametuer video prep (like iMovie) etc. With just Photoshop and Indesign alone, what is the minimum Mac I should upgrade to, if I am still concerned about performance, but budget and mobility could come into play too? For instance would the 13.3" Mac Book Pro with Intel Graphics be sufficient for doing my usual print design, with a little iMovie thrown in? At that price, I could afford a big display to plug into when I am at my office desk.
I like the idea of mobility (which I haven't had before with the big iMac), but don't want to notice a horrible lag in performance if I get a weaker machine. The guy at PeachMac said that when it came to display the Retina (in the Macbook Pro, 13.3 in edition) made a high difference despite the lack of a dedicated graphics processor. I don't do heavy-duty, memory-intensive graphics work but about once every two years anyway, and my iMac only has 2GB of RAM to begin with. I just want to make sure that true designers who have switched from older iMac machines to Macbook Pro's (not the most expensive models) didn't regret it when trying to run Photoshop, et al.
(My absolute budget is "no more than $2,000" which is why I am considering the new iMac vs. the MacBook Pro 13.3" and getting a nice external display.)

To run the new Studio you need Leopard and it will not spec'd to run on Tiger (Leopard 10.5.6 [specs here|http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs>) I have run it in Leopard and Snow Leopard, and both seem fairly similar, though I generally like my Leopard machines a bit more. Still breaking in the Snow Leopard and getting various kinks out of it. It seems I have some more little things go wrong in Snow Leopard.
Overall I like the upgrades in the Studio and you may just want to make another boot drive with clean Snow Leopard and the new Studio to work with until you feel you are happy with how it is performing. Bascially that is what I do until I am fully comfortable with the system and always have my rollback plan in place in case something goes awry and I need to get things done....

Now I need to figure out the Windows part. I need a full backup of Windows as well, with all the programs. In particular I need to be sure I can maintain the graphic card drivers.
You don't want to know how long took for me to find out how the **** I could update my graphic card drivers in Windows on my Macbook pro. Unfortunately there was a lot of misleading propaganda from Apple about bootcamp, saying that the new intel processor would have worked fine with Windows. Sad that everything was a lie. When installing Windows with bootcamp the graphic card program was unable to find and install the graphic card drivers update . Took me 2 weeks reading through thousands of angry posts of disappointed costumers to find out how to do that. I do not want to reapeat this dreadful experience.
After one year and a half with my Macbook pro I have a system I am TERRIFIED to touch. It is very very fragile, and any little change can destroy everything. It barely works. that's why I am so scared to re-install the OS -

I have an early 2008 iMac running Yosemite and I am not experiencing any real difficulties. I did upgrade to 6 GB of RAM, which has helped.

1- MacPro Refourbished 2012 for 2145.00
2- iMac (new) 27" i7, Fusion Drive and 2GB Nvidia 680MX
The reason why I am not sure which one to get is because I am afraid that in a future I wont be able to upgrade the iMac but at the same time the MacPro 2012 is pretty old, it doesnt even has USB 3.0.
If I get the MacPro I will end up spending more money because I gonna need a display which cost 1000

Oh also the other reason I am thinking on getting the MacPro is because with the MBPR if I use bootcamp OMG it really get HOTTTTT and I know that at least the mac pro has better cooling compare to the iMac...
Any Adviseee plssssif you need it now... imac otherwise sit on fence for now.

Hi, Accidentally somebody screw up Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 Master edition on a MAC computer in the school. The install discs did not start to run therefore I can't reinstall the 2 missing programs. I want to install the softwares, therefore I download those from here. The downloaded program refuse to accept the serial number which was given to the school when they purchased the Master Collection CS4 MLP A00. Thank you for your help, in advance.

Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.

Installing a trial version of the Illustrator and InDesign App in Creative Cloud on my Mac is impossible. Keep getting 'Installation failed' notices. More information gives 0 fatal error(s), 0 error(s). Already repaired disk permissions in Disk Utility but nothing seems to work. Exit code: 7.

Having trouble sending jpeg images as attachments in Mac email.....they go thru as images and PC users can't see the SAVE or QUICK LOOK boxes that Mac mail has. One friend scrolled over the image, right clicked on it and saved as a PNG file.
Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook. -

How can I know about the latest updates / versions which when available for all the CC products, without having to install and check it with the Desktoip Creative Cloud Application ?

I work with an Inventory module software and is responsible for software detection across several computers. Once an updated version comes up, I update our database with latest software details to get it detected if installed on any machines.
The problem tracking updates with Desktop Creative Cloud Software are;
1)We have to have it installed with the CC applications in-order to get the notification of the latest updates and have to check everyday.
2)Only relates to the latest updates, so in-between we may miss a prior update unknowingly.Hence, the remote machines having those updates may not get detected with the software version update which would create problem in reporting.
3)For all CC products, there is no base or previous updates available for installation if we miss one.
I went through the Adobe Products Update pages [Product updates] which holds good when it comes to Acrobat and Reader software which I follow to track down any newer updates but this is inconsistent when it comes to CC products like in After Effects CC, Dreamweaver CC etc...
So overall to be very specific, is there any one channel I can follow to get the notifications only for the updates on CC products and then may be I can rely on Desktop Creative Cloud for installation if not available anywhere like in product update pages of Adobe ?

Im in a dilema...I solely want to produce music with Ableton and I will be using Final Cut Pro extensively...im debating on which MAC system to purchase....Im highly interested in the new macbook but im not sure if the laptop will sustain the tasks I want to do...maybe a macbook pro or powerbook? or should i just skip the laptop idea and get an imac or desktop mac! Please help?
any mac would work fine using ableton live, but if you're going to be doing final cut work, you're going to need more graphics power. if you need a portable, the macbook pro should do you fine. a powerbook will work, but with final cut the macbook pro is literally at least 4 or 5 times as fast. if you don't need a portable, either the 20" or 24" imac will work fine, the smaller one doesn't have dedicated graphics, so it won't do. if you are working with serious, professional media or HD media in final cut, the mac pro is the only way to go.

Hey guys I have a question. Which mac would best suite my needs? A mac pro (early 2008) 2.8 8 core or a (Early 2009) 2.93 Quad core ? I do a lot of Gaming, Final Cut Express, Photoshop, Encoding and other various programs. I know one has 800 MHz ram and the other 1066 MHz, I guess in your guys opinions what should I go with based on my program usage ?
I don't think we can answer that. Seriously, there is more than DDR2 800 vs DDR3 1066.

The stock 4-core vs 2.93? you won't see enough difference.
$2200 for the 2008 is definitely still fast and more affordable.
Does what you do generate income so it will pay for itself?
Maybe an iMac Core i5 would do as well.

I have Quicktime 7.0.4 Pro and I sometimes do need to import some *.wma "crap" into my footage (which then is edited by FCP). I guess I need to upgrade my Flip4Mac from the free version (currently 2.0.2). Could you please tell me which version should I go for? My choice would be one of Player Pro ($29), Studio ($49) and Studio Pro ($99). Which one should I pick and which version you guys are using the most in conjuction with Final Cut Pro 5? (The best value for money)

JamesPro lets you start with WMV and make QT (or in Toast you can use WMV as source files and make MPEG-1, 2 VCD or DVD etc.)
The Studio $49 makes WMV from QT e.g. the other way around. Obviously Bill Gates gets a piece to use a WM encoder. This version has preset WMV settings.
The last one does the same but lets you set custom encodes.
If you are never making WMV and that is always a good idea, the $29 adds ability to use WMV in various apps and may be all you need.

Will LR tags show up in other programs?
If I ever decided to stop using LR and switch to some other program, what type of metadata would be included with all of my images? I really only use LR to add tags to each image. Would these tags show up for my images in other programs? Thanks.
