I need to buy new one...so i need your help.
the ones i'm thinking about are:
Expensive ones ;(

OCZ PowerStream 470W
+3.3V@28A, +5V@34A, +12V@33A, [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
Antec 550W TruePower
+3.3V@32A; +5V@40A; [email protected]; +12V@24A; -12V@1A; +5VSB@2A
Less expensive
Antec 430W TruePower

Maybe...that dude used different module other than "TruePower" by Antec.
Antec's work fine and dandy with a64's for the majority of ppl, the issue arises when it is heavily o/ced I don’t mean 220 o/c mine starts to have probs @ about 2800mhz up, the 12volt rail gets taxed and usually shows up in dropping back to desk top and blank blue screens or plain old random restarts when loading the system i.e. bench marking.
To give you some idea my system would drop to about 11.2v with my msi neo and about 11.6 on the asus, a lad I know has just brought a k8ne asus board with 3200 Newcastle and his is even lower. But with all the o/cing these days more ppls are trying it hence problems all though some really have nothing to do with psu's
Not a huge issue as most ppls with a64 will never see O/c’s like that
I think that was over at AnandTech the review on the 64 mentioned the problems
he was having with antec's when O/Cing
I should add with antec , my tagan runs sweet as and didn't cost a arm and a leg

  • Wake on LAN/Keyboard wake for a K8N Neo Platinum - how do I use this?

I've got a K8N Neo Platinum motherboard that I am using in my home theater PC and I was hoping to enable either the wake on lan or keyboard wake functions so that they could be controlled via a remote control. For now disregard what the overall outcome I want to achieve is... what I want to know is if enabling the WOL and/or keyboard wake function will allow me to turn on the PC from a completely powered down state as opposed to just powering up from a sleep/hybernation mode. I have read people with other motherboards have been able to power up by using their keyboard, mouse or even WOL when the computer is totally shut down. I'm trying to avoid leaving the PC in a sleep/hybernation mode due to electricity usage. Does this motherboard have the ability to power up when the whole system is shut down?
Also, what key on the keyboard is used to wake up the computer? The manual and bios instructions say nothing about what key needs to be pressed to wake it up.

I know you can set various wake options in the bios. Check there!
You can wake up the computer by wriggling the mouse or pressing any key, if the options are enabled in the bios.
    Hope this helps

  • Which PSU for MSI K8N Diamond Plus?

I am so frustrated ... I have spent over 6 hours trying to find out which power supplies I can use with the MSI K8N Diamond Plus.
I am not able to find any PSU that has 24 pin, 8 pin and 4 pin power connectors ... do you have to get them custom made or something? I am in Switzerland and it is hard to track these things down if you do not speak the language.
This is the page which I am using to try and find a compatible PSU:
    http://www.stegcomputer.ch/browse.asp?cat=376
I think the Spire Rocketeer VI should work but am not sure.
Can anybody recommend a PSU that is compatible with this board? Please.

    Off topic.
    Kenito443,
I see you have the Stacker830, was looking at that case myself. How do you find it performance / quality wise?
    Russell
Yeah i love it...the cooling is amazing, my case never goes above 30C and the cpu idles at 22c and never goes over 27C even when OC'd,.. granted i have substantial cooling for the cpu.  the case is completely tool less and boasts a up to 9 12cm fans...the case is double encased  Al so with a silent PSU (true 500W), which is my set up , it is extremely quiet. i was going to get the lian li until i saw both of them on display. the lian li seemed a little harder to set up for water cooling -if i wanted that option in the future, and the tool less feature for the cm stacker was a lot more appealing. Interestingly, it has its own proprietary hard drive noise reduction and cooling doohickey. Also, the mb has this cool pull out tray plus the PSU rail is really easy to accomadate for a larger  PSU. the store where i bought it from in santa clara CA threw in some of these nice dust filters with the case and I was sold. the only con was the price, i paid  around $230, which is a little expensive for a CM....oh and a word of warning , the case doesnt really look that big in pictures, but it is HUGE !! it has 10 5.25-inch bays..you can fit every single imaginable peripheral and still have room to fit your kitchen sink..i was definitely surprised to see how big it was in person.

  • BIOS FOR K8n neo platinum

A while back there was a big post about how to properly upgrade your bios and he had listed every bios beta or official for download.  Anyone have that post? and What is the best bios for the K8n Neo platinum? Im still running on 1.1....

Just the usual bios to bios temp tweak - no worries
Have been running with speedfan with a 4C offset think i can dith it now with 1.8
    Higher or lower?
Hmmm... My SpeedFan is running with no delta adjustments on the temps. I wonder if there is a discrepancy in what it's reporting & what it actually is after you boot into Windows
I'd try to go by what the Hardware Monitor says, but temp's always seem to be high when you're in BIOS anyway....

--Quick Guide for flashing BIOS, provided by MSI--
    1. Create a MS-DOS boot diskette, then copy the the .exe and the bios file to the floppy disk. Both of these files can be found in the package you downloaded.
    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum Nforce3 250GB - PSU?

My sister in law have this board, MSI K8N Neo Platinum nforce3 250gb chipset, recently the power supply sounds noisy and a high frequency sound from the Antec Truepower 380W SP. Had maked an RMA to Antec and they had agreed to replace the 380W psu with SmartPower2.0 450W. But they asked me one question, that im not sure about:
"Make sure that your motherboard does not need the -5V. If you want more information on the power supply you can look at this link: http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=26450 "
So, do Antecs SmartPower 2.0 450W suits this board and what really is -5V for? As I read the manual, it said ATX 20 pin power connector: JWR1 and at pin 18: -5V
So does it mean this board need a psu that gives -5V on ATX 20 pin power connector and thos board can't use with Antecs SP 2.0 450W?

    Quote from: syar2003 on 22-February-06, 05:10:37
    Hi!
The K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) doesn't use -5v to anything.
So the -5v from the old atx spesification is not needed in your case.
    WoW, thanks for fast reply!
So, it won't be any problem to use Antecs SmartPower 2.0 450W with this board then? Want to make sure about it, before accept Antecs offer for replacement and had spent over 4 days to find the problem with his computer. Really don't want to do it again.
    This is his riggs:
    Antec Sonata
    AMD 64 3000+ S754
    Corsair Value S. PC3200 DDR 512MB
    Maxtor Diamondmax 9 250GB SATA
    Maxtor Diamondmax 9 IDE 160GB
Sapphire Radeon 9550 Atlantis 128MB DDR
    and
Accton ethernet card on PCI slot
    MSI D-Bracket2
    so
With the "new" Antec SmartPower 2.0 450W
Any problem with this rigg and PSU?
    edit:
Dound this post that it said the board do need -5V and now Im confused?

  • Good News For K8N Neo Platinum Users!!!

Ok, after fiddling with my BIOS for almost 2 days now, and scanning the forums for a solution, I contacted MSI Technical Support in California, USA. They are sending me a new BIOS chip, free of charge, so anyone having a severe problem with BIOS revisions 1.8 and 1.9 on the K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) please give tech support a call, I let them know I would be posting this in the forum and they will be inandated with phone calls, but woohoo, they are sending a new chip pre-flashed with BIOS revision 1.7.
Please refer to this thread for the reasons why:BIOS v1.9 Is Terrible

What good news?  UK based MSI did not offer any such replacement bios after my problems updating to 1.8 bios.
I purchased a new bios chip with 1.9 bios from a UK supplier.....after fitting the bios I returned to the same problems as before, failure to boot past post and freezing in bios menu. I then remembered another post on this sight and removed one stick of memory......everything back to normal    .I have just fitted a 1gb Corsair cas 2 memory and all seems well I will save my 2X 512 Corsair XL my next project which will not be a MSI Motherboard
MSI UK  have not come out of this very well and from the posts that I have read there are quite a few people out there with problems. Many thanks to all those who posted on this,  it certainly helps to know that you are not the only one with problems.

  • Need some recommendations for K8N Neo Platinum

Well I am real psyched about my k8N Neo Platinum coming on tuesday which wi8ll be coupled with a Althon64 3200+ and I want to go ahead and purchase some RAM and possibly a heatsink and was looking for some suggestions. First of all I won't be overclocking my system much if any at all bare in mind. I am looking at getting one stick of 512 for now since money isn't exactly flowing right now and am looking to spend at the MAX $150. Correct me if I am wrong but I am probably going to just go with the PC3200 since I am not doing any huge overclocks.  Here is some of the ones I was looking at:
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series PC-3200 - $141
    Kingston HyperX 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - $141
Please provide other suggestions if you have them, I was leaning towards the Corsair.
As far as the heatsink goes I know several people on here use the  ZALMAN CNPS7000A which looks pretty darn nice to me because it is so quiet but do I really need something like this since I won't be overclocking? I am tempted to get it just because it is so quiet, that's something I am trying to do this time since my current computer is 10ft tall and sounds like a lawn mower. I got the Antec Sonata case with the big 120mm ehxaust fan to help out the cause. Thanks for any help.

Yeh I have been there and the only reason I am not getting it from there is that they are out of stock. So I was going to get it from Directron.com but I noticed that apparently have two all copper Zalman's the CNPS7000 and the CNPS7000A. I suppose I'll just get the "A" version since that is the one they have on NewEgg. Now just have to lock down my memory choice and I am all set.
My bad I just went out and checked the picture for the 7000A on Directron and it clearly has aluminum in it, they just didn't mention it in the description. I'll just have to see if it is worth it for the extra 8 bucks to get the all copper one.

  • New Windows XP 64bit, but no drivers for K8N Neo Platinum

    Hello,
I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with an AMD 2800+. Just received the new Windows XP 64bit edition after attending a trade show in Houston. Used Partition Magic to make a separate partition on my SATA 400GB HD, knowing there was possibly going to be a problem. This is the final release, retail packaged, not the Beta.
The only drivers found was for my MSI Nvidia 5600 AGp video card. No other audio, Nvidia chipset or board drivers are plug & play. Onboard LAN isn't even found.
Any drivers out yet? I figure i'll have to wait. Can't get updates either bacause it won't detect onboard LAN or a Linksys or 3Com PCI card I tried also.
    Woodrow

There most certainly are nVidia drivers.  The only thing that there aren't drivers for currently is the onboard sound.  This, combined with lack of driver support for my peripherals (webcam and printer) are why I haven't made the switch.

How fast can you run your Corsair?  I think that's the key to answering your question.
Yes the PQI is fast.  (Its no faster than any other TCCD ram, however:  Corsair XL, OCZ Rev2, G.Skill etc. - all the TCCD's offer similar performance.)
Personally I don't think the higher FSB you would get from the PQI would justify the upgrade on its own.  Running your CPU at say 8x275 compared to stock 11x200 will benchmark better, sure.  But I doubt you'd notice much speed improvements in everyday use.
