Which units support multiple inbound L2TP VPN connections?

Hello. I have a Mac OS X Server that I want to use as a L2TP VPN server for my remote Mac clients. Are there any Linksys routers that support multiple inbound L2TP connections? (The remote clients are 1 person per one location, so there won't be a problem with multiple outbound VPN clients where they are.)
Thanks

Solved!
Go to Solution.

The WRV200 supports 50 tunnels. The BEFVP41 supports 70 tunnels .Even the RV series is good So you have a lot of choices here.

  • [Mac OS X] Problems setting up L2TP VPN Connection

I recently moved from Windows to Mac OS X (10.6.6). Unfortunately this move was not so smoothly as I hoped for and I am currently facing some issues with the VPN-connection to the company I work for. As with many companies they do not have a Mac-guide and I am trying to solve this issue, but so far unsuccesful.
To access my data on the company’s server (MS TS Environment) I need to establish a L2TP-IPsec VPN connection. I used Mac OS X built in network tool and filled out all the necessary information such as vpn address, shared secret/key, password and accountname. I even double checked the information various times so no spelling errors occurred. After some seconds I receive the message that the L2TP-VPN-server does not respond.
I checked other posts already and I checked the box that sents all traffic via this VPN-connection but without any results. For a moment I doubted that the cause of this issue might be my home-network: MBA <-> Timecapsule <-> Thomson TG789 … however when I make a L2TP VPN connection using a Windows XP or Vista pc this can be done without problems (using the same network structure) so I guess it is a mac-related problem either with my MBA (Mac OSX) or with the companies servers…
I found out that using the console.app can provide me with some more information about the connection process:
    - L2TP connecting to server
    - IPSec connection started
    - IKE Packet: transmit success.
    - IKE Packet: receive success.
After a couple of attemps from the 6th message it suddenly shows:
    - IKE Packet: receive failed.
    - IKE Packet: transmit success.
    - IKE Packet: receive failed.
    -IKEv1 Phase1: maximum retransmits.
    -IKE Packets Receive Failure-Rate Statistic.
And this finally results in ' IPSec connection failed'
Does anyone has an idea of what the problem might be (e.g. the settings of the MAC or the settings of the companies VPN or ???) and maybe a solution for this problem?
Many thanks from a newbie but satisfied Mac-user!

Hi, I have the same problem with the establishing VPN connection using L2TP without IPsec.

  • IPad drops L2TP VPN connection after 1 minute??

IPad drops L2TP VPN connection after 1 minute of no activity? I'm connected just fine to my sonicwall FW.

  • Why does my L2TP VPN connection never really contact the server?

To be clear, this configuration is not on my own Mac, but on one belonging to someone I serve with technical support.
I am configuring an L2TP over IPSec VPN connection on a MacBook Pro. This connection is to a ZyXEL USG 300 and works successfully from my iPad. (I do not have my own OS X device from which I can test the connection.)
To the best of my knowledge, I have entered all of the information that is needed for the connection. Yet when I try to connect, all I receive is an indication that the server did not respond. In the USG logs, there is no indication at all of there being even a connection attempt. In a Terminal session on the Mac (verbose logging is enabled), I read:
    L2TP connecting to server 'xx.xx.xxx.xx' (xx.xx.xxx.xx)...
    IPSec connection started
    IPSec connection failed
It appears to me as if the connection never leaves the Mac and is prevented or stopped by some fault in the system. The firewall is turned off.
What suggestions do you have for identifying the problem?

That's weird but you should be able to manually install the update like this:
    #Download a fresh copy from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ here] - direct link (https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-28.0-SSL&os=osx&lang=en-US)
#Install the new version. For details, see [[How to download and install Firefox on Mac]]
Usually this fixes this issue with automatic updates. There will be new version available starting next Tuesday. The automatic update will happen sometime over the following week or so.
Let me know how it goes.<br>
    Thanks,<br>

  • Only my MBP Drops L2TP VPN Connection after 60 Seconds

My Old G4 Laptop and my Dual G5 Tower both connect to my office via L2TP VPN without an issue. with the exact same settings exported over to my mac book pro, the connection drops after exactly 60 seconds. I've tried both wireless and wired connections, and in either case, the VPN drops after 60 seconds of connect time.

I checked with my VPN administrator. He upgraded the XServe to Mac OS 10.4.5, and we tried again, with the same results. He sent me the server log to post:

  • L2TP VPN connection not working under 10.6.3

    Hi everyone.
I need to connect to a VPN with L2TP/IPSec.
The connection works fine if I boot into Bootcamp (win7).
But if I boot into 10.6.3, it does not work.
any idea what the problem could be.
Settings are triple checked and copy pasted into their proper fields (like in win7). router settings are correct, otherwise it would not work in win7.
So it is a problem with osx.
The following is out of the ppp.log:
    Thu Apr 22 19:14:03 2010 : L2TP connecting to server 'vpn.xxx.com' (x.x.x.x)...
    Thu Apr 22 19:14:03 2010 : IPSec connection started

    Thu Apr 22 19:14:03 2010 : IPSec phase 1 server replied
    Thu Apr 22 19:14:04 2010 : IPSec phase 2 started
    Thu Apr 22 19:14:34 2010 : IPSec connection failed
the server is reachable, but something fails in phase 2.
in the system log, the entry is:

  • Does PeerFinder support multiple Wi-Fi Direct connections or just one?

    Hi,
Based on the Proximity sample I was able to establish a wifi direct connection between two win8 machines.
    http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Proximity-sample-1c85d4c0
However I have yet to get a WinStore app to connect to two or more machines.  Is this a limitation with PeerFinder?  Are connections capped at one?
    Thanks,
    Richie

    I found this limitation on
    Link MSDN:
You can connect to only one peer at a time if your app is in the peer or client role. If your app is in the host role, you can connect up to
    5 clients at a time.

  • Check router for VPN Throughput - L2TP VPN

I am working on setting up a VPN for our office.   I have the PPTP version working but am unable to get L2TP to function.  Through various testing methods (setting up our Mac Yosemite server as a VPN and testing it in and out of the office), I am leaning towards an issue with the router not allowing some of the protocols required by an L2TP through.  The reason being I am able to create a L2TP VPN connection with my Mac server when using the internal IP address, but not when using the outside IP address (which to me means the signal is being blocked at the router.)
The server is receiving the SCCRQ from the client and trying to send the SCCRP which the client is not receiving when trying to connect from outside the office.
I have checked all the ports required and they are open (show ip ports), but can not figure out how to check for ESP Protocol 50?  Does anyone know how to check this protocol?  And if this isn't the solution, does any have other methods I can use to find the issue?
    Thank you,
    Chris

I think 2811 can handle this task
2811 supports up to 1500 VPN tunnels with the AIM-EPII-PLUS Module
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5881/index.html
So no problem with 165 VPNs...
If you speaking about huge traffic volume - you should focus on speed of Internet connectivity in head office - If you have 10 Mbit line for head office you get only 60Kbit per tunnel (10Mbit/165)
    M.
Hope that helps rate if it does

  • ASA with Multiple dynamic L2L VPN

I have an ASA 5510 as VPN Concentrator, used for about 30 L2L-VPNs.
I need also some L2L-VPN with dynamic remote peer.
While the configuration for a single dyn-VPN is quite simple (as described in several examples), how can I configure the ASA in the case of many dyn-VPNs ?
Basically, all the dyn-VPN should use the same PSK (the one of DefaultL2LGroup).
But using "aggressive mode" on the remote peer, I could use a different PSK for each dyn-VPN:
    tunnel-group ABCD ipsec-attributes
    pre-shared-key *
    Is this configuration correct ?
    Best regards
    Claudio

    Hi,
Maybe the solutions provided in the following document might also be an option for you to configure multiple dynamic L2L VPN connections on the ASA

  • Server L2TP  VPN will not connect after OS X restart

I have configured a L2TP VPN service in Server v4.1 running in Yosemite v10.10.3 on an OWC 480 GB SSD in a MB Mini late 2012. After any OS X restart the VPN service starts up normally but the client on my iOS8 phone, or clients on my three other devices, iMac, MB Air or MB Pro (all running the latest Yosemite) cannot connect to it.  They report service unavailable.  However, if I turn the service off and then on again in the Server app, everything works as planned and continues to work until the next restart. All the other Server services configured (Website, Caching and Time Machine) work without having perform the off then back on switch after Server app starts up.
This is generally not a problem but if I am abroad and the Mini reboots itself following a power cut, I lose my VPN service until I can either get someone to do the off then on switch or attempt it myself with Team Viewer VNC. Has anyone any idea how I can force the VPN service to work straight after the Server app starts?
    Thanks

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in safe mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Is there a limit to the number of concurrent L2TP/IPSec VPN connections in Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I'm currently running an L2TP/IPSec service from a Snow Leopard server VM running on the latest version of Lion Server ( Had loads of issues with Lion VPN connectivity from outside our network when I first upgraded the physical server to Lion. quickest way to get the service back was to run an S/L VM. I know that there have been some changes to Lion in the VPN area, but this works... sort of;;;)
I've got an IP address pool of 20 addresses confgured as this is only for ICT staff members. Each user has a local userid/password on the S/L server. For me, things just work.
iPhone, iPad, OS X lion client they all work and I've had about 3 simultaneous connections up and running. However, the majority of staff users use Windows 7 client machines and they're been reporting sporadic connection failures where one moment they can get connected and the next they can't.  I'm currently wondring if there is some concurrent limit setting they are hitting and are getting slung off because I've got other users using the service.  It would be a bit strange if S/L can only support 2 or 3 connections out of the box.
Then again it might be VMWare Fusion (Vsn 4.1.1) thats the problem.
    Any help apppreciated
    Rgds
    Alex

You have to count to have about 30GB at least free on the startup disk, after you have the library loaded.
On the external you have space enough.
As far as I know there is no limit for iPhoto, but I suggest to not let it grow too much, because everything will become sluggish, also making backups. It should be possible to split up in more libraries, one that is really actual and one that is the past. Physical splitting up I mean, not smart collections. You can switch libraries by holding the Alt(option) at startup of iPhoto.

  • Does CISCO C3560X VLAN support multiple Network segments which are further configured with HSRP function

    Hi Cisco experts,
My name is Kumagai and I need your expert opinions below.
I am trying to configure one VLAN1 support multiple network segments as below.
(this should be a very straight forward configuration and should be OK, I think ? )
     interface Vlan1
     ip address 172.30.0.0 255.255.128.0
     ip address 172.30.31.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.61.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.71.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0 secondary
The only issue that is eating me is the above network segments are using HSRP too
and I am not sure is this possible with a combination of VLAN1 supporting multiples which are
further supported with HSRP settings in Cisco environment.
    !example of HSRP:
    interface Vlan4
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0
     no ip redirects
     standby 4 ip 172.30.4.254
     standby 4 priority 105
     standby 4 preempt
<<< what will happen if I add the HSRP configuration as below into the above VLAN1 with multiple Network segment ??)
I would like to summarize my "Combined" configurations as below but I need your expert opinions on
whether the configuration below is workable without any problem ??
Or it is a total flop because Cisco does not support the configuration below !!!
     interface Vlan1
     ip address 172.30.0.0 255.255.128.0
     ip address 172.30.31.253 255.255.254.0 secondary

     standby 30 ip 172.30.31.254

    Thanking you in advance !!!!!

    Hi,
As far as i know we dont set the ip helper address on the radio interface. It should be on the L3 interface of corresposding VLANs i.e.
    int vlan 20
    ip helper-address 192.168.33.xxx
    int vlan 60
    ip helper-address 130.20.1.xxx
I'm assuming that your using SVI's (int Vlan 20 and int Vlan 60) rahter than physical interfaces. Also hope you have configured switch port as trunk where this AP is connected.
Modify the AP config as below since you are using data vlan as the native vlan
    interface Dot11Radio0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
    interface FastEthernet0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
Ideally your AP fastethernet configuration should looks like below and not sure how you missed this as this comes by default when you have multiple vlans for multiple ssids.
    interface FastEthernet0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
    no ip route-cache
    bridge-group 20
    no bridge-group 20 source-learning
    bridge-group 20 spanning-disabled
    interface FastEthernet0.60
    encapsulation dot1Q 60
    no ip route-cache
    bridge-group 60
    no bridge-group 60 source-learning
    bridge-group 60 spanning-disabled
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't connect to L2TP VPN

Whenever I try to connect to a VPN server using L2TP/IPSec I get the message: "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond". I could connect to that server using Snow Leopard and I can connect to it using Windows 7 (which is also installed on my mac).
By the way, when I force Windows 7 to use CHAP authentication instead of PAP I get a similar message. Too bad I can't force Mac OS X to use PAP.

    Hello,
Dont know if you need help with this still. But here is an article on how to use PAP on Mac OSX:

Now what I want is the possibility to use PAP on Iphone and IPAD... :/

  • Solution Needed: Using VPN as a Jump off for multiple users to connect outbound to multiple 3rd party VPN

I work for a healthcare consulting company, we have 50+ consultants that work remotely from their home.  We currently are cloud managed and for various reasons are looking for a solution to streamline our connection to our Clinics' personal VPNs.  Our Clinics' VPNs vary greatly in regards to vendor and type of connection.
    What we want to do:
Create a Jumpoff where all our consultants (simultaneously as well) can remote VPN into. From there be able to jump out to any of our Clinics' VPNs.
We need this because we have some consultants with foreign IPs and we also want to connect from Google Chromebooks which don't play nice with every type of our Clinics' VPNs.  So the our Jump Off Box will have all the needed connections for any type of VPNs our Clinics use.
This solution should connect to our Clinics' side from their default VPN settings - Just a regular VPN connection from us to them.
From what I have been told is that this was attempted in the past:
Consultants VPN'd to our cloud server - RDPd to a machine and then VPNd out to our clinics. However this locked down the VPN and only one consultant could jump out.
What Cisco Product would allow us to do so?
How would this be set up?
Do we set up the Router to handle outbound connections?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jay, there are a number of ways you can do this I can help you setup an initial recommendation on what products to get please send me an email at [email protected] hope to hear from you soon!

  • Multiple VPN connection question

I want to connect two on-premise locations to azure.  The hardware in these locations only support static routing so per the documentation I can only connect on site to site tunnel to the vpn connection in azure.
Im curious what my options are, can I add two vpn's in azure and make it all work that way?  Also if I wanted could I simply run a VM (windows rras, linux, etc) inside my VNET and make it a VPN server that can accept two tunnels?
    thanks

    Hi Chris,
Please be advised that for a Multi-Site VPN, you need to have a VPN Device that is compatible with Dynamic Routing.
You could refer the following link for details about Multi-Site VPN:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn690124.aspx
And the following link for the list of Azure Compatible VPN Devices and the Routing Configurations they support:

Also, please be advised Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines do not support Remote Access and Routing Roles.
