Which updates needed on 10.3 - 10.4 update?
So, I just upgraded my iMac G5 (rev A) from 10.3 to 10.4. (You can laugh now.)
I installed using Archive and Install from an upgrade disk, and then applied the 10.4.11 combo update.
After that I ran Software Update. Software Update installed the following:
Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2
X11 Update 2006
Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update
J2SE 5.0 Release 4
Safari 4.0.5
Java for Mac OS X 10.4, releases 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (in sequence)
QuickTime 7.6.4
Security Update 2009-005 (PowerPC)
So, my questions:
1) Is QuickTime 7.6.6 available for 10.4? The page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222 says it is, but SW Update doesn't download it and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4104 doesn't list any fixes for 10.4. I suspect the listing on the first page is in error but wanted to confirm.
2) Several other updates listed at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222 are listed as being available for 10.4.11, including Security Update 2009-004, Security Update 2009-003, Security Update 2009-002, Security Update 2009-001, and several security updates labeled 2008-00x as well. SW Update did not offer to download or install them.
I'm especially concerned, of course, about the security updates. Should the earlier ones be installed, or were they all rolled into 2009-005? (I assume they weren't included in 10.4.11, since they are listed as being "available for" 10.4.11.)
3) Any other critical updates that should be installed?

Software update sometimes only lists the next one available, some are not cumlative & need to be done incrementally.
Latest Security Update should include all previous.
Java must be dine in order.

PC Software saying 'component update needed' every time I try to update my phone software.
I recently downloaded the PC software and tried to update my phone but when I clicked update it said that a component of the PC software needed updated so I closed all the programmes running like it said and allowed it to update. However it has not started updating and it says 'please wait while windows configures Blackberry software updater' and it's not doing anything else. Been waiting about an hour now.
Just wondering if there is any way I can solve this problem. Tried re-installing program and rebooting computer but has had no effect so far.This was happening to me yesterday, but later in the day the update became available. You can either be patient and see if it shows up in Software Update or manually download it from here.

I have no idea why you are doing what you are doing so I will make a couple of related points.
1. Put your table partition, and its indexes, into a single tablespace and leave them there. If you do not understand why there has been volumes written on the subject by everyone from Tom Kyte, Jonathan Lewis, Richard Foote, etc. Essentially the entire membership of the Oak Table Network has weighed in on this one.
2. If you are going to create partitioned indexes leverage the built-in capabilities in DBMS_PCLXUTIL.

My iPod is up to a 4.1 ios, and it won't update to a 5.1 which I need for some of my apps for school. It keeps saying that my internet connection is bad; but, it works just fine. What do I need to do?
If you get a network timeout error, then disabling the computer's security software duirng the download and update usually resovles that error.
If that is not the error what is the wording of the error message.
Note that only a 3G or 4G iPod can go to iOS 5. A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1 -

Not sure what exactly you did (or not), but it looks as if you should attempt doing it all again, only this time all right and by the book. Many millions have done so, and sure it'll work for you as well.

After installation it told me to update or research several plugins. I updated Silverlight and JAVA. I was instructed to shut down and restart my computer to test the JAVA installation. I did this and the installation is fine. At this point I no longer had the screen with the list of plugins that need updating or researching.

Updated to Yosemite, no problem. now iPhoto and iMovie won't open. Says I need to update software however, when i try to update indicates my User ID and PW won't work for these two pieces of software. User ID and PW works everywhere else.
I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

Due to prolonged illness, I purchased the Logic Studio Upgrade version (I already had Logic Pro 7.2.3, with dongle) only last week. Logic Studio Upgrade version initially installs Logic Pro version 8.0.0. I then dutifully set out to download both the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update and the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update.
As of this week, all attempts and maneuvers to simply get the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update have failed. I cannot even find it, let alone download it!
Yes, I've tried the relabeling juggling act to fool Software Update into eventually listing and providing both the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update and the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update—but no luck, not any longer. These moves may have worked up until relatively recently, but they do not work now, at least as of this week.
All searching of Apple's site(s) and Support pages results in nada—Apple itself no longer lists any such file/dmg/download/update anywhere! All previous links are either dead or just dump one back on to the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update page.
(In my many searches, I noted what seemed to me to be a majority of opinion that the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update was a dog, especially in Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 or 10.5.3. Many users reported crashes, panics, and.or freezes. Is this why Apple has pulled the update and rendered it extinct?)
I Googled, I Asked Why, I Cuiled—but no Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update, except as that which lurked in the murky warez waters. Still, frustrated as I was, I did even try all such I could find . . . but no third party-hosted update worked at all.
I am concerned because in all my previous experience with Apple and its applications, ample information is made readily available about the contents of any update and an explanation of its relationship to previous updates. By this latter I mean: Apple indicates that update "x" incorporates the previous updates "u" and "v"; therefore one can proceed safely to install update "x" even if one missed updates "u" and "v" or for whatever reason did not install them.
So . . . do I need Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update, if I am then going to further update with the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update? Does Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update incorporate the changes made in Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update? Will I be missing (critically?) something(s) in Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update if I in fact do not ever get it or install it? And how would I know? Apple has not only removed the update and all traces of it, but Apple has also removed all information about Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update—it is now literally as if it never existed.
So what's a po' boy to do? Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update cannot now be found on VersionTracker or MacUpdate or anywhere else. To date, no user group or organization or educational institution or program or audio-related company posted it or archived it.
Where/how can I get a copy of the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update?
If I can't, what do I do?
If I can't, what do I miss?
And where is Apple's support for Logic Studio/Logic Pro in all of this?

When connecting my iphone to my computer, message appears: iphone cannot be used because itunes needs to be updated. I updated on my Mac, but it isn't transferring to my phone. Tried looking at software updates on my phone - "no updates needed"
Okay, that means with the latest iOS software, it requires the latest version of iTunes on the computer. Which computer OS platform are you using. Now you are saying that after downloading the latest version of iTunes that your iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes? Completely different thing, and the iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with that anyway. The iTunes on the iPhone is just for purchases.
If you are having trouble with the iPhone being recognized by iTunes, use the appropriate link for your computer OS for assistance.

My apps are not updating as I have no longer access to my eariler apple Id and now I am using a new apple Id which is allowing to download apps but while updating those apps my iPod wants eariler apple Id password to update what should I do ?

Those apps are forever tied to the Apple ID they were purchased under. You can either delete them and re-purchase them, or you can go to Manage your Apple ID and reset the password on the old Apple ID so you can use it to update your apps: Apple - My Apple ID
If you decide to continue to use them under the old ID password, I would suggest that when you reset that password, you change it to be the same password as the one you are currently using. That way when apps need to be updated you will only need to know one password and you won't have to be concerned with which Apple ID is displaying.

Senerio: i have a table which has 2 column. Person_Id and Country_id. it has millions of records.
1) One persion_id may have multiple country_id but maximum 4.
2) this data is get updated. But around 4000 records are updated only out of millions present in table.
This updation will be done by a procedure which i will create. We will have information about those 4000 records which will need update and will update above table.
Now from performance point of view.. how we should design this table?
1) Should i create partition on this table? if yes.. what type of?
2) Should there be any index..
Please suggest, if there is any other better way.

Botched Update Need Help PLEASE!
Last week an Auto-Update failed and when I went to restart I got the forever loading screen. So after several minutes I started up in single user mode and I received the infamous:
Load of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 88
I have found discussions on the matter on random internet boards and blogs pretaining to ealier versions but nothing here yet. I'm not too Terminal "Bash" Savy but here was my attempt.
I downloaded what I thought would be the latest update that was botched onto a Flash Drive MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11Intel.dmg. The goal of course was to install manually as other Mac owners had been successful with this approach. I did have a problem with identifying my Hard Drive. I would get the message: "/Volumes/Macintosh HD does not exist." I tried several approaches including /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/.
I also noticed when I ran System Profiler that *My Disk Utility is 10.5.8 Last modified 8/20/06*... Again, I'm no expert but it is my understanding that 10.5.8 is Leopard, right? So... how is that possible? And what should be my course of action from here?01. You have posted your 'Tiger' problem to an AppleScript programmers' discussion group. An experienced Macintosh user knows not to use the 'auto-install' feature (particularly with respect to a Security or System Update); but, to download the update(s), and manually install it / them. With respect to a System Update - download and install only the 'Combo Update' ('Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel)' in your situation), with one exception - when updating to 'Mac OS X 10.x.1', where there will be no 'Combo Update' equivalent.

If you have data to be backed up - you will need another Mac, a Firewire cable, and to follow these 'Firewire Target mode' instructions; then copy your data to the other Mac.

Once completed, obtain (that is - down first) the needed / preferred updates - and then install them. A suggestion - if 'QuickTime' and 'iTunes' are among the updates - install 'QuickTime' first, then 'iTunes'.
Finally, return the backed up data to your Mac.
Note: You can use the 'Apple, Software Update...' menu item, to launch 'Software Update' to obtain a list of Apple's suggested updates. From here you download the suggested / preferred updates via the applications 'Update, Download Only' menu item. The downloaded file(s) will be saved to the '/Library/Packages/' folder.
If among the list you see only 'Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update (Intel)' - remove its check mark, so as not to have it downloaded. Instead, click here - to view the web page from which 'Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel)' can be downloaded from.
Recent 'Software Update' observation:
When performing the suggested 'Software Update' steps above, with a PowerPC G4 dual 500 MHz PowerMac - running MacOS X 10.4.11, the application listed 'Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2', 'iTunes Phone Driver', 'iPhoto Update', 'QuickTime', and 'Compatibility Update for QuickTime' as the needed updates. I choose to download, not auto install, the updates. The result was four (4) of the '.pkg' files saved to the Mac's '/Library/Packages/' folder, with an alert box stating 'Some of the checked updates couldn't be downloaded. The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple"' - with respect to the 'QuickTime' update.
Wow, Apple's 'Software Update' application checked my system installation, talked home, suggested a list, and then reported a failure! Go figure. One could only imagine what may have happened - if the updates were allowed to be auto installed.
P.S. After the first four (4) updates were successfully downloaded, I attempted to download only the 'QuickTime' update. It too was then successfully downloaded. Rhetorical questions: Should I then trust the 'QuickTime' download?, or any of the downloads recommended by 'Software Update'?
Final note: Typically, one does not have to download (and install) the latest updates, at the time of release, or at any time; unless an application or an update requires the installation of another update - prior to its installation and usage. -
I own a DVD set of CS3 Design Standard for Mac, including a second DVD named CS3.3 including Acrobat 9.
I could not access the DVDs with the Remote Drive function of OSX (I am on a Macbook Air now, without DVD drive). Thus I downloaded CS3 from Adobe and entered the serial number. Works. However, I cannot update to 3.3/Acrobat 9 as there is no download available from Adobe for Mac.
Using a proper external DVD drive should work, I guess - if I can get hold of one, not much motivated to buy one, though.
Or is there another possibility of updating?

However, I do not think that this is aspecific Acrobat issue, as the
original CS3 DVD didn't work either through remote, so I downloaded it
from Adobe, which worked fine.

Two Clear System Cache Needed in Two Days since 602 Update
I found out why my battery is worse with the 602 update. Appararently my phone is NEVER GOING TO SLEEP. I forget the name of the service that was keeping it awake. I think it was com.motorola.service.main. After the clear cache, it was good for a day. I took a couple of phone calls and exchanged some text messages and noticed again that my phone was warm. Sure enough, it was stuck again (100% AWAKE even when screen was off for long periods). I cleared the cache again and it has been fine overnight.
I really hope we do get another update because this one is not working too well on my phone (which had few issues with the prior 596 update).brucefan42 wrote:

You need to look at what you have installed.....if you have done a factory reset, leave all your apps off for a day and see if the phone itself is draining the battery. I just did a factory reset this past weekend (8/27) and before that, my battery use was attrocious, but after the reset it's not using up the battery as much. Before the factory reset, I had AFK (task killer) installed and I really think it was draining my battery, along with WeatherBug. I don't have those installed after the reset and I see a remarkable difference. Before it, I was having to charge my battery at work by the time it was noon (it sits on the charger at night so it has 100% when I leave for work), but since the reset, I have not had to hook it up to the charger at work. My battery mode is set to performance mode and that doesn't seem to make a difference, even though alot here would say it is gonna drain it the most.
You just have to play with it and see what works and what may be causing it, if that means taking off apps completely and putting them back on one by one to find any differences. -
Hi apple users, I am in need of your expertise. I have a mov file and mp4 file which I need converted to DVD. However IDVD quality is terrible and wondering if anyone can help!?
I created project in iMovie then exported it to MP4 and also MOV file at highest definition possible + I added it to iDVD and had a number issues about encoding errors regarding the mp4 file. MOV worked but the quality was terrible.....

On both a MacBook Pro, an Acer laptop and my Mac Tower. I would love to think that it is a problem with the playback system, and that if I merely send the file off to the duplicator they won't have the same problem. Maybe that is the case...I don't know if I have a choice rather than sending it off to see. But it happens in the same spots, in the same way, on all three of the players so I'm a little reluctant to have faith.

Of course, but in the case there is no more 'original project.' It is gone like the wind, stolen along with his computer and backups.
I think I am stuck using one of two files as my master: a DVD he burned where I only see the stutter/vibration/jitter once, or the mpeg2 file where I see it three times. Hopefully, the duplication house can rip if off of one of them and not see the jitter. I know that in audio, my personal filed, you can do a lot to enhance already existing sound--EQ, compression, tape saturation emulation software, etc. I guess I'm hoping there is some kind of analog to the video world that address jitter after a source has been printed--if indeed the source has been printed to be jittery.
