White Lines on Live Traced Artwork in PDF from Illustrator CS3

Hi,<br /><br />I've recently been using the Live Trace feature in Adobe Illustrator CS3 on my artwork so that my artwork becomes a vector image instead of a raster (I'm told it's better for Web because it works better with varying resolutions - doesn't become pixelated).  For my live trace, I use a custom preset:<br /><br />ADJUSTMENTS-<br />Mode: Color<br />Threshold: 128 (grayed out)<br />Palette: Automatic<br />Max Colors: 256<br />Output to Swatches: OFF<br />Blur: 0 px<br />Resample: 600 px<br />Fills: ON <grayed out><br />Strokes: OFF (grayed out)<br /><br />TRACE SETTINGS-<br />Max Stroke Weight: 10 px (grayed out)<br />Min Stroke Length: 20 px (grayed out)<br />Path Fitting: 1 px<br />Minimum Area: 1 px<br />Corner Angle: 1<br />Ignore White: OFF<br /><br />VIEW-<br />Raster: No Image<br />Vector Tracing Result<br /><br />The preview info, located under the dialogue bubble with the i states:<br />Paths: 4894<br />Anchors: (no number)<br />Colors: 148<br />Areas: 4822<br />Image PPI: 200<br /><br />I don't know if that helps anyone, but that's just the preset I've used to get a sharper, almost fully preserved vector version of my raster image.<br /><br />When I want to convert it to a PDF file using the File > Save As... > Save as type: PDF with the following preset:<br /><br />Adobe PDF Preset: Illustrator Default<br />Standard: None<br />Compatibility: Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7)<br /><br />Then, my image as viewed in the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional has several white lines, outlining areas of color.  You can see it here: <br /><br />http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Mont-ImmortalSquirrel/Ai-PDF_whitelines.jpg<br /><br />The image connected to this link was captured with PrntScrn and copied into Photoshop, cropped, and saved as a jpeg.  The issue is perfectly preserved, as you can see the white lines outlining areas of color.  This problem is persistent despite the zoom level in Acrobat 8.  <br /><br />Just another little bit of information, the problem is most noticeable in the red area and not the cream/white and yellow areas.  When I was working on the original raster image in Photoshop CS3, the cream/white area was done with the Ellipse Tool, using Bevel and Emboss in the Blending Options.  The same goes for the yellow area, which was done with the Line Tool.  The red area was done manually, with the Brush Tool, Smudge, Blur, Burn, etc.<br /><br />I'm telling you guys just about everything I've done leading up to this issue.  But, if there's something you need to know more, I'll try to figure out what I could've possibly done wrong to get this result.

I too get this result when using LiveTrace. My simple solution to this problem was to just place a solid color shape behind that section of the trace where it occurs that is the same color as the trace. Simple...but it worked.

  • How to Create PDF from Illustrator CS3 by using applescript?

    Hi Guys,
Do some one knows how to create PDF from Illustrator CS3 by using apple script. If know, please give me the scripting.
    HARI

Have you tried File>Scripts>SaveDocsAsPDF? There should be a folder of sample scripts installed in your AICS3 folder and a folder of documentation which contains an Illustrator AppleScript Reference which has examples.

  • Unexpected results, when creating a pdf from Illustrator (cs3)

A customer has supplied a 'print ready' pdf, created in Illustrator [cs3]. The file contains grey text [20% black], but when they have printed to pdf [using acrobat 8], the breakdown of the 'grey' changes in colour to a cmyk value [45,36,35,1) instead of 0,0,0,20 as originally created in Illustrator.
I've replicated the customers error from scratch, and have found that, when you save [save-as] the file as a pdf [using acrobat 8 settings] and resulting pdf is correct = 20% black.
These errors where generated using a pc platform. We also tried to reproduce the error on our Mac's, but the Mac system didn't generate any issues.
Does anyone know why illustrator would produce [using the same native file] two different results when producing pdf's? We've check all colour management, etc. and still can't figure out why this is happening.

I have heard of this issue, but trying to remember is an issue by itself. lol. Seams to me there is an option for true blacks 0,0,0,? and cmy blacks ?,?,?,0. I am almost positive there are a few threads on this forum about this.

  • Save PDF from Illustrator CS3 with no bleed

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to save an Illustrator file to a pdf so that there is no margin or bleed. Basically, I want no white space to surround my content. Any ideas?
    TIA,
    Thomas

    >...how to save an Illustrator file to a pdf so that there is no margin or bleed.
    >...I want no white space to surround my content.
    Your second statement indicates you
    i do
want bleed (artwork extends past trim size so that you have a borderless end-product).
I'm going to assume the second statement more correctly represents what you want.
    Either...
    1. Adjust your artboard size so that your artwork extends beyond (or coincides exactly with*) the perimeter; or
    2. Draw a rectangle to your desired trim dimensions and use Object | Crop Area | Make.
    Then, save as PDF.
    {I based this on AI 12 (CS2), so details may differ.}
*OK for screen PDF creation, but not recommended for press output. Bleed ensures your final piece is borderless even with slight trimming inaccuracy.

  • I can't print to PDF from Illustrator CS3

I have been using CS3 for a while now, but the last two jobs I have attempted to print to PDF with have failed. I get the message, "Can't Print the Illustration" and then the following error message:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[Page: 1]%%
%%[ Error: invalidrestore; OffendingCommand: restore ]%%
    Stack:
    -save-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    Can anyone PLEASE HELP!!!

There's either an offending object or a corrupt font.
    You can try these:
    1. first make a copy of the file.
    2. Select All/Convert text to outlines and make PDF. Does that work?
    3. If not, start a new file. Copy and paste each item individually to the new file and try to make a pdf each time. You will soon work out the offending item.

  • Print to PDF from illustrator CS3

CS3: In the Print dialog box, with Adobe PDF 8.0, I select the Printer Setup dialog box. Under the Layout pulldown menu I have PDF Options (settings) and Printer Features. Then select the print button to Save to File and name with the option to browse where you want the file.
    The Problem:
Since I installed CS4, the PDF Options is no longer available in CS3 and Save to File does not come up, can not rename and no option to direct file. The pdf file does show up on the desktop. This is happening on 2 machines. Both running Mac OS 10.4.11. One is Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel and the other a Power Mac G5 dual. I have CS2 loaded as well on each of these.
A third PowerMac G5 Dual which is using Adobe PDF 7.0 has the pdf options, renames and can direct, but the files get stopped in the Printer List (CS3). Starting Job again does not work. This happened also after installing CS4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Zuc,
The problem is the lousy version CS4 that conflicts with the Lousy version CS3. I believe you have to uninstall Lousy version CS3 to make Lousy version CS4 work (or vise-versa).
But you are not alone, PC users have the same experience (they are using the same lousy software):
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7e6db/0
So you have to choose which version is less harmful. Is sad that Adobe is not longer reliable with new technology. Please let me know when CS4 gets an update. Thank you!

  • How to export or print PDF from Illustrator with crop and reg marks?

    Hi all,
I realise this is probably a very obvious question, but I've just upgraded from CS3 to CS5.5, and I'm tearing my hair out with the loss of Adobe PDF printer driver. I've looked on forums and can't find this question - prob. so obvious that no one else has asked it.
Can't seem to export as PDF from Illustrator ,only 'save as'. This doesn't give me my crop marks. I've tried putting in crop marks - Effects/Crop Marks - but this places the marks outside my trim, at the edges of my background image, which comes out 2mm all round for bleed purposes.
How can I set crop marks to denote the dimensions of the page size, regardless of how much crap I've got spilling out over the edges for bleed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!
PS: Bring back the PDF Printer Driver pleeeease!

You can turn on crop & trim marsk when doing a save as to PDF. But turn on some bleed values greater than 0 (not  as in my screenshot) or you will not get any bleed of your artwork, just the marks then.

  • Creating a correctly separated PDF from Illustrator in Acrobat Reader 7,8,9

I work in an organisation with users having various versions of Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader.
We need to create a PDF from Illustrator, I guess by using 'save as', that can be correctly displayed in Acrobat 7 onwards.
A flattened PDF views correctly in all versions, but doesn't allow some users to view separations as it converts to CMYK.
My understanding is that PDF-X could ensure overprint is on, so the PDF will display correctly.  But, for versions 7 and 8 overprint preview will need to be activated in order for the PDF to be correctly displayed.
Does anyone know of another solution, in that we could create a PDF, correctly separated and viewable in Acrobat Reader 7, 8, 9.
    Thanks

Why are your Reader users using different versions? It's a free download. Get them all on the current version.

  • Unable to save a 'smallest size file' pdf from illustrator 5.5

We recently insalled Adobe Standard 5.5
I often save PDF files from Illustrator using the built in PDF options available from the PDF drop down menu bar when saving files. Usually I will save a visual as a 'smallest file size' or make use of the 'high quality print' option for other files etc.
Why cant I do this on CS5.5?
In addition, the colour is not acurate at all!
    Please help

Hi Scott - I found the following thread on the net. So I had a look on my time machine back-ups and copied the files from there, which I then pasted into my Settings folder as you suggested.
    Ta da!! All working again!
Any idea how I could restore these settings from a backup?
    Thanks!
The PDF presets reside in Root/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/
After I had installed 10.6.5, 6 preset files were removed from the Settings folder. The folder tree itself remained, it was just that some of the contents of "Settings" were deleted. I have fixed the problem by copying the deleted settings files from a backup.
These are the files which were deleted:
    Smallest File Size.joboptions
    Press Quality.joboptions
    PDFX4 2008.joboptions
    PDFX3 2002.joboptions
    PDFX1 2001.joboptions
    High Quality Print.joboptions
    These files were not deleted:
    Standard.joboptions
    PDFA1b 2005 RGB.joboptions
    PDFA1b 2005 CMYK.joboptions
    Oversized Pages.joboptions
Somebody at Adobe community support for Indesign directed me to restore these files from a backup, which solved the problem.

  • White Lines Across Powerpoint files converted to PDF

I have a number of PDF files that were created from Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on a Windows PC. The Preview inspector says they were created with Acrobat Distiller 8.2.2. Until recently, these PDFs looked 100% correct when viewed in Preview or Safari. Now, though, they have horizontal white lines across the pages. There are 6 white lines on each page, evenly spaced, each about 1 pixel in height. They stay at 1 pixel in height even when I zoom in/out on the document. At some zoom levels (100% being one of them), the area above and below some lines will become misaligned. When viewed with Adobe Reader 9, the lines are not there but the misalignment is (though it is not exactly the same as in Preview). Unfortunately, I can't say when this started happening other than it was fine in September (2010) and isn't this afternoon (Nov 22, 2010). It happens on a coworker's Macbook Pro as well as my iMac so it is not something unique to my Mac.
Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Hi, I am having this problem also on my iMac. Some of the images have the lines and some of them don't. When the PDFs are printed, the lines don't show. My problem is that these PDFs will be linked to on a website for the clients to print, and they will seem them with the lines. They are pretty unsightly, and my boss has put this into my lap to figure out, since I am the designer. Did you ever find an answer for this? I don't know where else to turn, since this company is insisting on using Pages, rather than something like InDesign.

  • White lines around PNGs when exported to PDF

I am having the problem that imported images frequently have white bars around the outside of the image when the document is exported as a PDF. Looking at the two images currently affected I notice they are both PNG images. I fixed the image that was just rectangular in shape by just turning it into a JPEG as I did not require the use of transparency, but the second object is a different matter and I require the use of PNGs transparency. These lines are not present when in indesign normally.
The line is only noticable in one spot where a black rectangle meets the black background (only the top of the rectangle is visible against the black as one side is covered and the other side is out of the crop area) so I am not certain if this is the only spot it is occuring.
The line is not even a straight white line!
I have had this problem before with lines appearing around objects which should not be there, as well as objects not appearing as they do in inDesign, any advice for fixing this?

Ok guys I don't know what was wrong with my old TIFF image, but I swapped it out for a TIFF image which had a gradient fading from black to transparent as opposed to a straight black box and now the line is not there *shrug* it seems quite weird to me since I made sure the image was correct by cutting off the top segmant of the image where the trouble was.... but I dunno....
The exact same image in illustrator or photoshop showed up fine.. so I cannot understand what the problem was
EDIT: GAK!! its back on a new image I just put into the document same problem except it is on all sides of the black rectangle... *shakes fist* bah I will put another bloody gradient around the stupid thing....which by the way worked and the gradient was placed on the bottom layer so I dont see how it could be the image? I think this is proving that the problem is with acrobat (or saving from indesign) not the image...
NOTE: I would rather not post the files for various reasons

  • Can I use Reader X to draw freeform lines on documents I "saved as PDF" from Word?

I would like to use the feature described as follows on the Adobe website: "Review documents with a complete set of commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps."
According to the website, Adobe Reader X can use this feature if the PDF has had that option enabled when it was created in more full-featured version of Acrobat.
I would like to know, Does a document that I've saved as a PDF from Word (using Save As) count as having that feature enabled?
    Thank you,
    James

With PDF files created using Word(Save As), you can only add sticky notes and use highlighting.
You will have to use Adobe ACrobat to create a PDF with has Commenting enabled for Reader also.

  • How to open an Arabic PDF in Illustrator CS3 ME without outlining the font?

    Hi,
I need to use Illustrator CS3 ME (Middle East) in order to edit some pages of an Arabic PDF file.
Now, the problem is that as soon as I open the page in Illustrator, all of the Arabic text gets outlined. The English text doesn't get outlined.
I need to edit the text, so this is a big problem.
I don't have the original source files (InDesign).
Also, it is too much editing to be doing in Acrobat.
Is there some sort of solution for this?
    Thanks,
    Ola

    Hi,
The font is Arial, which fully supports Arabic, as far as I know.
How do I enable glyph protection in the prefs?
How do I set the glyph substituion in the type palette? I am sorry for the
ignorance, but I usually work with InDesign, and quite rarely with
Ilustrator. This is a special case for me...
The formatting is very ordinary. Nothing special.
I really hope there is some solution for this....
    Ola
    2010/6/4 Mylenium <[email protected]>
What fonts does it use? Is glyph protection enabled in teh prefs? What are
the settings for glyph substitution in the type palette? Does it have any
specific formatting? If it gets outlined, it was probably mangled in ways
that prevent using the life font or the relevant font is missing
    alltogether...
