Please i have been trying to do this since yesterday without any succes. If some body can explain to me like a 5 year old kind will be awesome.
I did all the steps and always the system ask for my password, and the mail stop to sinc...

More information would be helpful. What version of the OS are you using? Who is your e-mail provider and is the account IMAP or POP? Were you able to successfully set up the account?
What does Mail/Window/Connection Doctor Show? If the server is red, select it and look at the Show Details box.

Garbled mails after importing from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail

I want to migrate from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail. I found 2 ways to do this:
Copy mail folder by mail folder to a Finder folder as .mbox files, and then importing them into Apple mail
creating an imap account on Outlook, synchronizing mails with the imap server, and then connecting from Apple mail to the same server, thereby re-importing mails to Apple mail
With both methods I have the same problem: some mails arrive completely garbled, below is an example. It seems that mostly HTML mails and mails with attachments are affected, but there are also some ordinary text mails which look weird. The strange thing is: they all look absolutely perfect in Outlook 2011!
I have migrated my mail file from every computer I had since about 12 years, first some PCs, and about 1.5 years ago to a Mac. My suspicion is that mails dating back to the "pre-Mac era" are affected, because the latest ones are all perfect. Any ideas?

I HAD two accounts because of this problem. I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client. Guess what is happening?? That's right - Mail is still sending from the other account that no longer exists on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea how this is happening. This is incredibly frustrating. sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices

I'm missing mail in my Inbox from my .live account in Apple Mail. I'm using mbox with my hotmail account. If that made any sense?!

I'm all of a sudden missing old mail in my inbox labeled .live - I used mBox to set up my hotmail account with Apple Mail. It's not in the trash nor on my hotmail account online anymore. Hmmmm??? I already tried to rebuild and my mbox folder in the library seems fine. Anyone?? I only have about a month's worth of mail which made me think I had mistakenly selected some 'time frame' for keeping inbox messages but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

In the left column of mail, click on the disclosure triangle to the left of the "Inbox" label to open the view, then click on the mailbox (server) that you're interested in.
You can also take individual mailboxes (servers) offline to reduce the arriving traffic; I have a mailbox set up for mailing list traffic, for instance.

All - I've been working on this for hours.
All I want to do is connect my gmail accounts to Apple Mail. I'm running a new Macbook Air w Mountain Lion, Apple Mail 6.5. I can access the accounts on my ipad and iphone. I've spent hours reading forums and help areas.
Mail repeatedly asks for my password. In the account settings it does not save my password.
I've gotten the message that Mail cannot connect to Google imap server, but I do not believe this is a "timing" issue
Here's what I've tried:
Apple Side:
- Tried adding and deleting accounts several times within mail application
- tried using System Preferences > Mail/Contacts etc.
- Changed imap.gmail.com to imap.google.com
- changed to custom dedicated port for outgoing mail (587)
- closed and relaunched Mail
- Rebooted and safe rebooted computer
- set up and deleted accounts
- turned off gmail on phone and ipad
Google Side:
- Enabled IMAP
- Not using 2 step verification
- Checked Captcha

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

Where is the MailAccounts.plist file stored for a network user using Apple Mail on Snow Leopard? It appears one of my users has managed to do something to their mail account as Apple Mail will no longer close once opened and the Sent Folder has a perpetual spinning pinwheel.

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

How to set default email account in Apple Mail for Yosemite?

For some reason, after my upgrade to Yosemite my default accounts are no longer selected as default. I am now sending from an account I only receive email to, and have to change it with every single email I compose. Mavericks didn't do this.

How do I properly set up my @live.com account in Apple mail? It will send and recieve for a day or so, then when i try to send an email, I get an error. The error either tells me that I have the wrong password or it says "Cannot send the message using the server smtp.live.com:[email protected] choose a different outgoing mail server." Here are the correct settings for POP access, please check yours, also check that you have only 1 smtp server defined.
Hotmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop3.live.com (logon using Secure Password Authentification - SPA, mail server port: 995)
Hotmail Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.live.com (TLS enabled, port 587)

Add account in Apple Mail greyed out

After migration to Yosemite I imported added my accounts and imported my mailboxes in Apple Mail. This seemed to work fine.
Now I want to add another mail account in Apple Mail (preferences -> accounts) and I cannot click the + (plus) as it is greyed out.
I then added the account through system settings and it appeared in Mail.
After a while (about an hour of inactivity) this account disappears from both Mail and system preferences.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
