Whole tape captured but only 2/3's in final cut

I have captured a two DV tape which are about 1 hour and 2min the whole tapes captured without any problem but in the browser one tape (captured file) only shows the the captured footage is only 42 min the rest does not show up. When i play the clip in quicktime the whole 1 hour and 2min are there. The other tape which has the same length is fine.
I did quiet a lot tapes like that never had a problem, i did upgrade to 6.02 an run Leopard 15.1
I do not have any limitations set in the preference files

Make sure there's no in and out points set in the offending clip before you determine it's length. Or type on x with the clip in the viewer and see what the in to out is.

  • Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
    You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

  • What is the best way to capture off of an AVCHD Camera in final cut?

Im kinda new to final cut pro so, please don't flame me. I was hoping to capture some extra footage on to my system through my AVCHD camcorder. And i want to know the best way to do so? Thanks for the answers.

I was not successful using mpegstreamclip for this. However, I found VoltaicHD from ShedWorx and it works great. Simply load all the clips you want to convert, assign a location and walk away. The result is beautiful HD .movs ready to be imported into FCP. I paid about $35 for it and it was well worth it.

  • Audio files are there, but there is no sound.  Final Cut v1.0.1

I have been working on a project in Final cut express v1.0.1 for a few days. At first, there were no problems with audio, then I tried to open the file on a friends machine using final cut 2 (my final cut program and scratch disc are on an external drive). I was prompted to update my project so it would be FC2 compatible and I chose not to. We were not able to view the project on my friend's machine. When I try to play the project now, there is no sound even though all audio files are in place.
It might be worthwhile to note that before trying to view the project on my friend's machine I created a "final cut movie file" which will play with audio on either machine in Quicktime but not in Final cut.
Any help or advice about what I should do to fix this would be much apreciated, Thanks.

Thank you for the response but unfortunately it did not resolve my problem, View>Video is set to real time and not firewire (the options are greyed out and cant be selected but there is a check by "Real Time" regardless)
Still unable to get sound, thanks for the attempt.

  • Capture on PC/Edit on Mac with Final Cut?

I travel and use a PC laptop.
I need to know how to capture Mini DV video that will allow to edit them with Final Cut Pro 5.1 using my Power Mac G5.

Depends how your PC captures the source media. If it captures as wmv you have a problem, if it captures as avi, it will +sort of+ work.
Final Cut Pro works with QuickTime files and that's what you need to work productively.

  • Silly request but iMovie Texts in livetype for final cut pro

Ok, so ive recently switched from iMovie to Final Cut Pro, but i had grown to love the text titles in iMovie, now i know you can do some amazing stuff in livetype but is there any way to use the text titles from iMovie in Livetype for export to FCP?
    Thanks

The iMovie type tool is completely different and not compatible with LiveType.
Why not just export a QuickTime file from iMovie and use that in FCP?

  • Not quite buyers remorse, but... Mac Mini, final cut pro x

Yesterday I bought my first mac, a late 2012 mac mini 2.3 GHz i7 with 4GB RAM.  I do some very semi-professional video work and for years have been using a PC I built with Sony Vegas and it was time to get mac.
I know I took a chance with the mac mini, considering it doesn't have dedicated GPU, but it's not as snappy as I expected.  To be fair, I've ordered RAM to get this machine up to 16GB, so maybe it will get better.
What I'm wondering is if there's any other mac mini users who have are using final cut pro x and adobe photoshop with similar specs?
I may be returning this and building my own PC again, I don't know.  I really want this mac to be as awesome as I think it can be.  Any experiences is appreciated.

Not FinalCut, but I do use Adobe Premiere, Encore and AfterEffects as well as PS, Dreamweaver and Audition.
PS was terribly slow with the OEM 4Gb. My Mini is a Corei5.
I first bumped up to 8Gb and that helped, but Premiere was still slow rendering. Photoshop worked well.
I have 16Gb now and I can run PS or Premiere with a Virtual Machine running too, and no lag at all.

  • Capturing video from Sony  DCR-SR32E to Final Cut express

I have a Sony DCR-SR32E camcorder and visited the Genius Bar recently, it appears it's one of the few camcorders not supported in iMovie and was told by the genius that I needed to ask Sony for an mpeg-2 codex.
Sony re-directed me to search for one on the internet and could be of no further assistance. Can anyone recommend an mpeg2 codec that will convert modd or mpg files so that I can use the Final Cut I purchased or if not that at least iMovie.
Unfortunately I seem to have a MAC, that I bought specifically for editing video, that can't handle the Sony files and a Sony Camcorder that I can't use as the HD is full

This forum is the Final cut express forum so it's best to post in the iMovie forum for iMovie stuff.
Even if you are using FCE the files from this camera will not work directly.
You will require a transcode to Quicktime using an application like Mpeg Streamclip.
You may have to purchase the Apple Mpeg viewing software as well to minoitor the video if required.

  • FCP crashes on open but, OK if I trash the Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs.fcset

If I trash this FCP preference file: Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs.fcset
    FCP opens everytime.
If I dont trash the old file, it crashes everytime.
So, Now, I have to recreate all my Favorite Affect filters and transitions all over?
I never had this problem until after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
I was able to fool it for a while by removing, reopening project, closing project and pasting my old Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs.fcset back in.
    Now that wont work.
I really didnt want to have to recreate it all.

Now even after using a recreated FCP Preference file, FCP is still Crashing.

  • Cannot capture, but can do pretty much everything else with deck. What now?

    Hello everybody,
I'm writing for the Gateway Media Center. We're basically a small group of students which handles anything video or TV related for a public school district, mainly the high school. Our main editing system (Mac connected to a MiniDV deck via FireWire)is the subject of this post.
And we've got a bit of a problem. I've seen it at least once before on these forums, but no solution in that topic helped.
Basically, we can't capture video or audio with Final Cut Pro, but we can control the deck, watch audio levels coming from the deck within Final Cut, and even record edited material to tape with the deck just fine. We CAN capture with another application.
I'd like to say that NO, we have not updated anything within the past six months or so, at least not to my knowledge. (The problem started last week).
*_A detailed decription of what DOESN'T work:_*
Log & Capture window: The preview monitor within the window always shows the default color bars and the black horizontal band that roughly says 'Preview Disabled'.
    *With device 'FireWire NTSC' selected:*
*Aud+Vid, Capture Now:* The black window with the whire Final Cut window opens. The bottom says 'Waiting for Timecode'. After this sits there for a few seconds, a message pops up and says roughly 'The operation could not be completed because there is no video'. The deck is automatically paused.
*Video Only, Cap. Now:* same as above^.
*Audio Only, Cap. Now:* Black window, bottom says 'capturing now', as it should, but when the Esc key is hit a message that says roughly 'ERROR: Final Cut could not read the movie file just captured' pops up.
*With 'Non-Controlable device' selected:* same as above, except that 'Waiting for Timecode' is replaced with 'Allocating Disk Space'.
*A detailed description of what DOES work:*
    - Video and Audio go TO the deck, whether it's from Timeline/Canvas, Viewer, or Print to Video. I succesfully recorded an edit to tape just yesterday.
    - The deck can be controlled with the JKL keys, the buttons on the Log & Cap. window, go to In point and even Batch Capture cues the tape correctly.
    - Timecode is visible in the top right of the preview monitor in the L&C window, and it is the right timecode.
    - Audio levels visible (in that stand-alone window which is usually to the right of the timeline) match what I'm hearing from the deck's analog monitor.
    - Vidi, a simple little program, can record video which is manually cued with the deck. The saved video file(s) can then be successfully imported into FCP.
    _*Trouble-shooting ALREADY attempted:*_
    1) Correct turn on order: Shut everything down, unplug the deck's power, turn on and log into Mac, plug in deck and wait for it to wake up, turn the deck on, then launch Final Cut.
    2) Check deck's input and output settings.
    3) Unplug other FireWire devices. (We use an external hard drive connected on the same firewire bus. Not that it's ever been a problem)
    4) Change Captrue Scratch location and make sure there's enough disk space.
    5) Delete Final Cut Pro Preferences and that 'com.apple.finalcutpro.plist' thing.
    _*Trouble-shooting NOT attempted:*_
    1) Replace FireWire cable. I think it's safe to say the cable's fine since the computer can capture with Vidi, but I guess I should try this too, next time I get a chance.
    2) Remove receipts and Re-install Final Cut Pro. (Really, a last resort.)
    _*The specs:*_
Yes, this stuff is pretty old. Like I said, we're talking about a pulic school district, and the system usually suits us just fine.
FCP: Final Cut Pro HD (Academic) 4.5
+set up with the 'DV NTSC 48kHz' Easy Setup. Video playback on 'FireWire NTSC 720x480'. Yes, External Video All Frames.+
*The Mac:* PowerMac G4 (of what I believe would be called the MDD case model family)
OS: Mac OS X, version 10.3.9
CPUs: Dual 1.25GHz PowerPC G4, 2 MB L3 cache per processor
    RAM: 1 GB DDR SDRAM
HDDs: Two drives, reportedly on the 'ATA-6' bus.
*The Deck:* JVC SR-DVM700 (3-in-1 MiniDV (with the 'PROFESSIONAL DV' logo), hard drive, and DVD-RW/RAM), 4-pin FireWire port connected to 6-pin port on Mac.
+Deck's Monitor:+ one professional CRT video monitor with built-in mono speaker, analog inputs directly connected to deck, made by JVC.
Sorry about the long post, I wanted to make it clear.
We're getting into a nice crunch as the school year is ending, and we really need to get this running. Any tips would be great!
    Thanks,
    Jake T.
+Gateway Media Communication Center / Gateway High School Video Club / Gateway Video Productions+

That makes sense, but our problem started last week - Final Cut captured fine before then.
And I don't think it's been updated lately, as 7.4.5 is the latest version of QuickTime for OS10.3.9. If an update caused the problem, wouldn't the update be to 7.4.5, and not 7.3.1?
    Nevertheless, I'll try it.
    Thanks,
    Jake T.

  • Screen capture blurry in final cut, but not Motion

I screen captured something from the internet using snapz pro (I tried DV-ntsc, h.264, and now using 'none'). It looks great when its motion, but after render, looks bad in final cut. I tried bringing the file into motion and then exporting a loss-less from there and then bringing into final cut, but its the same problem of being blurry.
the video was captured 4x3, though its larger than 720x480. Thats one of the reasons I threw it into Motion, because it would standardize the size in the case that final cut didnt like it. I need to get rid of the blur. help.
    eric

Also, if your file is LARGER in Motion, as you said, and then you drop it into a DV sequence, not only will it shrink, but it will inherit the DV 5:1 compression.
What size are you using in Motion? What settings? If you want it to look that good in FCP, you need to use the same settings in FCP. If you are adding it to a DV sequence, then you will have to live with the DV compression. OR, try it in a DV50 sequence. Better compression, higher bit rate.

  • Stuck on "Capture Audio Only"

I'm new to Final Cut Express. I used to use Final Cut Pro at my old job at a news station. I'm a teacher now, and we got a new Mac with Final Cut Express. I created separate accounts for each of my classes using the Mac.
One of the classes somehow did something so that when you go to capture, it says something like "Capture Audio Only Selected." So, of course, it only captures audio and no video. None of the students know what they did to get it like that, and all the other accounts can capture video fine.
Where is the section where I can make it so it's not audio only? I know in Final Cut Pro there'd be two other tabs in the Capture window where I could change it, but in Express, there's only one tab: Capture. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

When I go into Preferences, I don't see any of the files you mention. The only Final Cut file I see is com.apple.RegFinalCutExpress.plist which I believe is the file that prompts me to register.

  • ? on photo - file found but only linking that one photo even when the box is checked.

In Lightroom Library, a set of photos all have ?? question marks.. SO when I begin to link to the file, it is not linking the whole folder.. but only one at a time.  What can I do?

what happened was files were moved outside lightroom, and its having trouble locating them...
    Locate missing photos
Sometimes the link between the catalog and a photo breaks. When that happens, Lightroom displays a Photo Is Missing icon in image cells in the Grid view and the Filmstrip. In the Develop module, Lightroom indicates that the photo is offline or missing. Links between a catalog and its photos can break for a variety of reasons, including because photos are moved in the operating system instead of from within Lightroom, or because photos are stored on an external drive that is offline. If the drive is offline, turn it on.
(Optional) In the Library module, choose Library > Find Missing Photos to display missing files in the Grid view.
Click the Photo Is Missing icon in a thumbnail cell in the Grid view.A dialog box opens and displays the last known location of the missing photo.
Click the Locate button, navigate to where the photo is currently located, and then click Select.
(Optional) In the Locate dialog box, select Find Nearby Missing Photos to have Lightroom search for other missing photos in the folder and reconnect them as well.
you are going to want to do the #4, to reconnect all of them.
    -janelle
Ps. if that doesn't work, trying synching your folders:
    Synchronize folders
When you synchronize folders, you have the option of adding files that have been added to the folder but not imported into the catalog, removing files that have been deleted, and scanning for metadata updates. The photo files in the folder and all subfolders can be synchronized. You can determine which folders, subfolders, and files are imported.
In the Folders panel, select the folder you want to synchronize.
    Choose Library > Synchronize Folder.
In the Synchronize Folder dialog box, do any of the following:
To import photos that appear in the folders but have not been imported in the catalog, select Import New Photos. If you select Show Import Dialog Before Importing, you can specify which folders and photos are imported.
To remove photos that have been deleted from the folder but not from the catalog, select Remove Missing Photos From Catalog. If this option is dimmed, no files are missing. (You can choose Show Missing Photos to display the photos in Grid view.)
To scan for any metadata changes made to the files in another application, choose Scan For Metadata Updates.
    Click Synchronize.
If the Import Photos dialog box opens, specify the folders and files you want to import, and then click Import.

  • Final Cut only detects my HD camera as a DV-PAL basic???

Hi, I'm currently waiting for a director to come to my suite, so we can begin editing a film. This is the first time I'll be using HD footage on my suite, so I've hired a Sony Z1E HDV camera for the digitizing. I'm just trying to get everything ready for when she gets here and am testing the camera with mini DV footage I've shot on an SD camera before.
Everything seems fine but problem at the moment is, Final Cut only seems to detect the camera when I go to Easy Setup > DV-PAL Firewire Basic, it doesn't detect it when I use Easy Setup > HD > HDV - 1080i50.
Is this simply because I'm using an SD tape or do I need to worry?
If someone could give me the Easy setup settings and camera settings for this to digitize correctly, I'd be very greatful.
    Thank you.
    Alex

Is this simply because I'm using an SD tape....?
    Yes.

  • Can I capture with Final Cut Pro and edit in Premiere Pro?

Since it appears that Premiere has issues with capture - at least for me but as I see it for others as well - and that I can capture with iMovie, can I consider using Final Cut Pro for capture - then cross to Adobe Premiere and the suite for editing, finalizing ? Or is there a problem to copy the shots/files from one program to the other (would they remain identified clearly so I could just import shots into Premiere afterward ?)
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
When you capture HDV in FCP it creates a specific Apple HDV codec. This is a codec that is only available if FCP, Motion or Compressor is installed.
The two workarounds would be to use Premiere Pro on the Mac with one of the above mentioned apps installed on the same system or convert to a codec that can be read in Premiere.
