Why 4xUSB 2.0 and 4xUSB 1.1 on K8T NEO FIS2R?

I'm wondering why only 4 of the 8 USB ports are 2.0 and the other 1.1.
The upper 2 of the 4 motherboard USB's are 2.0 and the lower 2 are USB 1.1
1 of the 2 connectors for external USB on the motherboard is USB 1.1 and the other connector is USB 2.0.
How can I get USB 2.0 on all 8 USB ports?
USB is enabled in the bios and I'm using XP SP1a. Device manager doesn't say that there is anything wrong since all ports are working but not on the correct speed.

hmm mine was easy to test when i didn't update the drivers..
i pluged my maxtor 120 usb 2 drive in and got a big ol message saying something to the effect of" hey this thing runs better on a usb2.o slot not a 1.1"
as i had it on the mobo in the back i was surprised, went to control panel hit scan for changes. it found the driver... and all is happy again.

K8T Neo - FIS2R (model 6702) SATA and RAID Problems = Hair Loss

Hi All,
new to the forum, have searched but nothing like my problem exist.
I have a K8T Neo FIS2R M/B and trying to get a single SATA HDD working for my secondary drive. primary is a IDE which works well and I want to leave it.
I have plugged in the SATA HDD into the SER 1 port ( Promise 237 ?) anyhow the bois at startup or post recognises the drive, but then says soemthing like you have set up raid before F1 for setup F2 to continue to boot.
I have pressed both f1 and F2 at various time, but it appears that it want to turn the single drive into a RAID system, which is not possible with one drive !!....
Anyhow windows XP then boots up and loads a RAID driver and also the promise RAID drivers. the real problem is that XP sits and waits for the raid which never comes and during startup on XP. it is extremely slow.
Does anyone have any ideas. I am not that computer techy as you can see by the description, but it appears that I cannot get into the RAID bios to turn it off.. I have zapped the bios to try and reset it. basically i am loosing my hair ove this.
if anyone had some step by step instructions how to prevent raid from switching on at the bios and then in XP it would be greatly appreciated

I set it to SATA as you have indicated Hans, I did check that setting. Thankyou for checking.
Spray, I have tried the P20378 setting as well. You indicate that you need to press F6 when installing the OS. I have WinXP running already on an IDE master and am trying to set the SATA up as a secondary disk drive.
As I indicated above, the machine runs slowly to the point of it being a 486 when I use either promise or Via controllers.
I have since removed the drive and are now having problems with XP on boot up/startup. The thing seems to hang or go slowly when the horizontal bar runs across under the Windows XP logo. I have turned everything off in the bios both Promise and Via. I am at a loss as to why:
1 it runs slowly with the SATA drive in ( also does not show all the auto loading icons near the clock)
2. why it hangs when I remove it and turn both SATA controllers off in the bios.
I have a feeling that I may have corrupted part of the registry playing around. Any thoughts... going bald :-)

I'm running the same setup up as you and have not experienced any ram related problems so far. I'm happy with it and it is very stable.
Every ram has different settings. For the corsair 1gb value select (2x512mb) you must make sure you use these settings for the best results:
put them in slots 1 and 3.
use the settings 2.5-3-3-8
set the ddr voltage 2.7

K8T Neo-FIS2R and 2.2 bios problem

I flashed the bios of my K8T Neo-FIS2R to version 2.2.
Everytime I boot the system, I can just see the Windows XP logo appearing for a second, then the system reboots again.
I reflashed from a floppy to version 2.1 again, but still the same problem.
My HDD is a Western Digital SATA drive on the VIA controller.
Can somebody please help me out?

After reflashing to 2.0 I still had the same problem.
The bios was not causing the problem. In some way, Windows couldn't load the SATA driver properly, I think.
I removed the SATA HDD from the VIA controller and connected it to the Promise controller, and surprisingly, Windows started again.
The HDD LED works on the Promise, but not on the VIA, so I left the HDD on the Promise controller. The LED problem is now solved as well.
I still don't know exactly what was going on. Anyway, it wasn't MSI or the new bios, it was Microsoft...

K8T Neo FIS2R and DDR400

I'm looking to buy a K8T Neo2 FIS2R soon and I'm wondering what DDR400 to get for it. I'm looking at 2 sticks of 512Mb either Crucial or Kingmax, and I would like to know if anyone has used either of these sucessfully with this board.
The part munber of the Crucial is CT6464Z40B.
I'm not sure of the part number for the Kingmax, but it's available at http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Submit=Search&Category=27
Any experience of either of these modules would be helpful.

Zalman CPU heatsink and K8T NEO-FIS2R

I was wondering if somebody tried zalman 7000(AlCu) or Zalman 7000(Cu) on MSI K8T800 Neo FIS2R? I just saw on the nVidia forum that the nForce "platinum" board needs to get the original backing plate "peeled off" before installing such HSF. I was wondering if it was the same thing with the Via based board and I was also wondering if the HSF fits on the K8T800 Neo FIS2R?

Why did they had to glue the backplate on the neo platinum mobo!!!?!?!? I think I'll go write some comments on the "feature" section of the forum...
Anyway... I think i'll go with the KT800 FIS2R mobo... I liked the features on the neo platium, but that glued backplate is a pain. I also read this comment:

Socket 754 and 3 Dimms on MSI K8T NEO

Has anybody had any success with installing memory in all the available dimms slots and managing to keep the memory running at full speed? I have currently 2x 512MB of Corsair Valueram installed and I am considering getting another.... Only if I don't have to sacrifice memory speed though.
Any suggestions or advice before I do this would be gratefully recieved.

I've borrowed a stick from another pc at work and just whacked it in.... It does downclock to 166.
But I've just used A64 Tweaker to force it to run at 200mhz and it is!!! 2T timing has to be enabled though or it crashes..... Sandra reports that it is running at 200mhz and my bandwidth is about 2650 MB/s down from 2970... I can put up with that I suppose
It's running 3dmark now so we'll see if it crashes.

K8T Neo-FIS2R/FSR (MS-6702) and EluminX Keyvoard

My EluminX keyboard stays lit all the time with any BIOS revision above 1.2. I tried everything, enabling/disabling bios settings for all wake up events. Is there anyway I could get the keyboard to shut off and use a BIOS rev above 1.2.?

So...Just use bios 1.2 than.
I had the same issue with an optical mouse that stayed on. In order for wal to work, the mainboard needs the 5v rail all the time.
Have you tried disabling WAL, that might help.
Also, putting the keyboard on PS/2 iso USB will help.

K8T NEO-FIS2R and S.M.A.R.T

Does anyone have a disk drive with S.M.A.R.T "working" in their system? by working I mean that you are able to use/monitor any of the disk drive attributes associated with SMART. I do have SMART enabled in the bios but I have tried several utilities and all of them state that my drives (see signature are not SMART enabled.) I'm wondering if this is an issue with the SATA driver or if Raid 0 is somehow screws SMART up?
Any Thoughts?

dont think smart is active with raid 0,as two drives are needed to create a raid 0,but will be active with non raid drives,at least thats what i have seen.

K8T Neo FIS2R and AMD DTR 3400+ compatability - Bios Update ?

As title , trying to install AMD64 DTR 3400+ cpu on mobo with no luck.
Currently running AMD64 3200+ on board with no problems. Install this cpu and no boot up can get as far a Bios set-up where i choose default optimal bios but then the system just hangs.
Have never updated bios , so i assume i'm still using V.1 ( had this set-up for almost 2 years )
Tried CMOS clearing , no luck.
As last resort ( after reading tales of disaster ! ) I tried to flash Bios to V 1.9 ( as reccommended for old clawhammers ) but didn't work ;
Created dos start up disk
at a> prompt , followed instructions to the letter , but kept getting "invalid drive" error messages.
So still using bios v.1
Any Help ??

Do you still have the old CPU? If so pop it in and run Live update and do a Bios Update. Do not let it do more than create the Flash disk and instyall the files on the flash disk. Shut down Live update at that point and take the 1.9 imge that you have and rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM and copy it onto the new floppy you made.
Shut down and go into Bios. Turn off Boot Block Virus protection and set the 1st Boot device to Floppy. Pop in the new floppy you made and reboot. Follow the instruction that come up on the screen. turn off the machine after the flash is done.
Go back into Bios and reset Optimal Defaults. Save and exit and then shut back down.
You should be fine at this point to install that new CPU.

Boot and OS install issues with K8T Neo2 F

Can anybody shed light on my difficulties?
Assembled a new computer yesterday. First power-on produced nothing except 3 (2,3,4) red leds on d-bracket. After reading several postings, tried the following:
Swapped around memory modules;
Did repeated JBAT1 data clears (NB if you happen to get a board with the V1.0 user guide, note that the JBAT1 diagram appears upside down - pin one is closest to the SATA slots (page 2 - 24). The MSI downloadable user guide (V1.2) has that error corrected (page 2-25)
The only memory config that doesn’t produce three red leds is with one 512 stick installed in channel 3 (green).
Can now get to the point where Windows XP boots to the point where install is about to start, and then advises me that it can’t find a hard disk!
Have dis/reconnected the sata cable (using different cables) and checked the bios setup but can find nothing strange except that setup refers to the hard disk as BBS 0 (RAID) ST3120827AS - the reference to “RAID” worries me.

Paul, there have been people here that have had to strip their system down to the bare minimum hardware to get windows to complete the install, so try that. I had trouble completing my windows install as long as I was trying to install the RAID drivers at F6. So I ignored the prompt at F6 and windows installed fine. Then I installed my RAID drivers afterward.
These things are extremely sensitive when it comes to memory. I had the same problem you are having. Mine was cured by a BIOS upgrade to ver. 3.3. The simplest way to do it is to use "Live Watch". It will locate BIOS ver 3.3 for you, and download it to a floppy along with the flash program, and make it bootable all in one easy step. Then all you have to do is boot from the floppy you just made, and follow the instructions. Very simple.
I've read all these stickies and posts now going way back, and IMHO anyone who wants to use RAM thats not on the list should do so at their own risk. Interestingly enough, the recommended list from MSI is not the same as the list from AMD. And the memory manufacturers have their own lists of RAM that they say will work with this board. I'm using 2x 512 sticks of GEIL from the MSI recommended list.

By the way, if you haven't noticed, most of the older posts about memory problems are with respect to the K8T Neo FIS2R which is a socket 754 single channel board, so although they are similar, they're not the same. My point is just because his K8TNeo FIS2R works fine with brand "X" RAM doesn't mean your K8T NEO2 FIR will.

K8T Neo creates 'phantom' RAM and won't recognise the real stuff...

I have just replaced my computer's motherboard and CPU, from an ancient ASUS A7V266-E motherboard and an AMD XP CPU (1.1GHz) to a new K8T Neo-FIS2R motherboard with an AMD Sempron 2.0GHz processor, both brand new. I thought that it would be possible to use all the other components until I can save up enough for a new graphics card, RAM etc.
All of the other components seem to work fine. After making all the connections and starting up for the first time, Windows (XP) loads successfully... but VERY, VERY slowly.
About an hour after loading, I finally manage to right-click on 'My computer' to be told that I apparently have "AMD Unknown Processor - 2.0 GHz" and "64MB of RAM".
This is what surprises me, because in the DIMM ports at the time were three 256MB PC2100 DDR sticks, all three identical - two which were in the motherboard I had before (sequential serial numbers and everything), and another one from another PC purchased at around about the same time. All three worked fine in their old computers. So not only is the PC not recognising that it's actually got 762Mb of RAM stuck in it, but it's creating 64Mb out of nowhere!
AFAIK, the sticks should be compatible, because the RAM specifications appear to be the same for both the Old ASUS motherboard and the New K8T Neo - check out the specifications on the left-hand-side for each board. However, clearly something is not right - it could be a compatibility issue, or is there something I'm missing?
All it says on the sticks of RAM is "256MB PC2100 DDR MEM" (plus "Made in Korea", of course ), but crucial.com seems to be telling me that the RAM must be SDRAM, because that's all that would work in my old motherboard. Is there some other configuration issue I've overlooked?
I've tried swapping the sticks around and taking some of them out - no change, either in the display or in overall performance. I tried loading it with no RAM at all - didn't like that one bit! I had a look through the BIOS (with the instruction manual close to hand), but nothing jumped out at me - and I really don't know what I'm looking for!
Really confused! Any ideas what's going on? Any help would be much appreciated.

Probs with k8t neo and radeon 9500 non pro

I´m totaly new with amd and i got a msi k8t neo and a sempron 2800+ with 1gb memory and a saphire radeon 9500 non pro and the computer does not start with that graphiccard.The processor fan just spins up a bit then it dies. But with a gforce 5200 card the computer works fine. I have tryed the saphire card in my server with a P4 1,6ghz and on that motherboard it works just fine.
Im from sweden so my english is not the best ;-)

Well you know that othergfx cards do work oin ur board, so I still say you RMA it, or swap if with another card that will work

Geforce 6600GT AGP and K8T Neo ok?

I have read that people have had a lot of problems with the MSI mobo - via chipset - 6600GT combination. I planned to buy the new graphics card soon from either MSI, XFX or PNY, but after reading about all issues I'm not so sure anymore.
I'm just wondering whether there really is a compatibility problem between 6600GT and MSI K8T-Neo (other than the lockup when you enable TURBO mode).

My K8T Neo FIS2R mainboard would not boot reliably to the Win XP Pro desktop with a 6600 card installed at any memory setting, not just when set to Turbo mode. This is simply not acceptable for a product that was marketed as a high-end mainboard, and MSI still has not publicly addressed the problem, although I am hopeful that the next BIOS update will help. But for now, I would recommend that you not attempt to combine a Neo series mainboard with any 6600 class video card. The mainboard is excellent with any other kind of card, so go for a 6800 card if you can afford it. If not, consider an ATI card, all of which seem to work fine with Neo series boards.
