Why am I getting this App Store message for the new OS: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
Why am I getting this App Store message:
The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I had the same problem. Spoke to Apple support who directed me to Itunes support. Frustrating to say the least. Some have said remove virus barrier. I did and still nothing. Some posts have said to delete App store. DON'T DO IT.. App store is tuff to get back. This did work for me. Go to Finder, then go, pick go to folder, type in, /var/folder, and delete (send to trash). There were 2 folders I had to delete, KX & XX, and as soon as I sent them to the trash they returned but I was able to download & intall Mountain Lion and working well. Good luck..

When clicking 'buy' for Mountain Lion in the App store I get the message "product distribution file could not be verified, it may be damaged or was not signed' Anybody know why I get this message. Thanks
Make sure your Mac qualifies for Mountain Lion > Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that before downloading apps.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall
Try deleting the cache, cookies, and preference files (plist) associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now here:
~/Library/Preferences
Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
com.apple.appstore.plist
com.apple.storeagent.pllist
Now here:
~/Library/Cookies
Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store. -

When I try to purchase Mountain Lion i get an error message: "We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."
I can purchase other apps, why not Mountain Lion. I get the same message on my wife's IMAC.The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down. Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.

Why am I getting an app store error when trying to download Lion?
Why am I getting an app store error when trying to download Lion? Any ideas?
I would complain really bad and get them to give you a Flash card that they just came out with because they've inconvenienced you so much and you don't have hours to spend at the apple store waiting for the whole thing to load.
The only thing about the flash cards is that it will change your whole motherboard so it won't allow you to install snow leopard or anything less, ever again. (as what the apple specialist told me over the phone).
I would also suggest waiting. It really isn't worth the hastle and you may not benefit from installing it on your old computer... just a thought. -

I have a MacBook Pro with all the necessary requirements. Here are a few things to try:
Restart your Modem and Router.
Reset iTunes Store Cache (iTunes Preferences, Advanced tabl)
Delete the App Store plists (close App Store first):
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
To get to these,iIf you still have your user Library hidden, hold down the Option key and select Library from the Go menu in Finder. Otherwise, just go into your home folder, then Library, and then Preferences. -

App Store rejects buy of Mountain Lion: Apple Support Communities -
I just tried to buy Mountain Lion but I am getting this message, yes, even after I reboot: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I don't understand what this means? Is my MacBookPro too old to work with Mountain Lion? The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Always search the forum before posting. This is asked at least three times just below your post.

How do I get an App store icon for Mac on my dashboard
how do I get an App store icon for Mac on my dashboard
Are you on 10.6.8 or Lion? It should have been placed there automatically during the install; otherwise, simply go to your Applications folder and drag the icon to the dock.
If you're not on one of those OS versions, post back with your version.
