I gifted my iPhone 4 to my granddaughter. Prior to gifting, I removed the Passcode option to allow her to use it freely. I then began to remove all personal information manually, which made me realize there had to be another way. I researched other ways and found, "Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings>Enter Passcode>. That brings me to the issue: "WRONG PASSCODE!" What Passcode?
What can I do to work around the security feature not allowing me to wipe the Phone?

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

This means the iPhone was hacked to be unlocked. The 3GS was not sold in the US as officially unlocked.

I am not very technically minded so any suggestions in laymans terms please. This is a big problem as I work away frequently and need to answer e mails. I wanted to add my voice to the growing chorus of people complaining about VZW's trade in program. i received the exact same excuse for denying the full value of my perfectly good and DEACTIVATED iphone 4s.
i DID manage to get through to the trade in team, and after explaining the situation, i was told that my problem could be escalated the the tech team. the anonymous trade-in woman transfers me to the normal VZW cust support line... huh?
i wait again and finally get through. unlike the trade-in woman, the cust support rep immediately identifies himself. willie was as helpful as he was allowed to be, but sadly, that wasn't very much. the trade in people and VZW hold all of the cards.
THEY say that the de-activation lock wasn't turned off, i say it was.
there is no way to prove either assertion.
there is no appeal.
they just deny, deny, deny, as evidenced by all of the other complaints posted here and elsewhere.

I'm unable to get my iPhone out of recovery mode?

My iPhone was on charge earlier this evening, and when disconnecting it to use it again I noticed it had entered recovery mode randomly (I'm still not sure why this happened in the first place) I know usually this isnt a very big problem and you can simply connect it to iTunes and restore it, which I attempted to do, however when doing this my iPhone displayed a black screen with a blinking apple sign and iTunes wouldn't recognise my iPhone. I held the home button down, and iTunes then recognised my iPhone, however when I hit restore, an error sign comes up saying my iPhone cannot be restored - so I am unable to restore my iPhone through iTunes.
I cannot restore my iPhone by holding down the home and power button as my power button jammed just over a month ago randomly (literally woke up one morning and was unable to use it at all) so my iPhone is now stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it out.
I'm going to visit apple tomorrow to see if they can help. I'm still covered by warranty as I've only had my phone just over 11 months. Do you think it's likely they'd be able to restore is via iTunes in store? and if not do you think I'd be able to get a replacement because of this issue and because of my broken power button? Incredibly worried, as I don't know why my phone has even randomly entered recovery mode or why my power button jammed in the first place and I really don't want to end up paying £120 for a new handset when I don't feel any of this was really my fault.

I am having the exact issue as yours, but, I fixed this issue myself and I would like to help many of those suffering from this issue to not be treated by Apple -- when I woke up in the morning I found my iPhone 4 was in "Upgrade to iOS6" mode on the moring that I planed to travel -- my alarm is still alarming me to wake up but the phone could not be used anymore, so fortunately I have backup phone to switch the sim-card to. When I am back home I went to a local "Short Hills" apple store Genius Bar and the staff told me that it could not be fixed, the only way to resolve this was to pay $150 for "Replacement" for a refurbished iPhone - I didn't believe him! My home PC/iTunes can detecte my phone, but the Genius Bar staff said it can't be deteted. I tried many different ways and finally I came up the followings which fixed by iPHone: 1) if you need to backup your stuff within the iPHone, you can use iTools from your PC; 2) Install the latest iTunes; 3) Try to recovery your iphone with iTunes several times and to see if it could be fortunately restored, Pay attention to the error messages, I got (-1) and (3194) which are ok, if they all are not working, then perform the last: 4) download the latest firmware for your version of your phone, such as iphone 4,5, GSM, CDMA, etc and save it into your PC; 5) perform a recovery mode from iTunes, but this time, you are pressing down the "Shift" key while you are clicking the "Recovery iPhone" from your iTunes, it will pop up a window to ask you to upload the firmware, you then select that downloaded firmware and it should fixed you problem and your iPhone will be just like brand new from Apple manufacture! Good luck! -- I have several negative experience with Genius Bar -- they are using refurbished phone with much older screen life LCD to replace my warrenty new phone -- this is apple the policy which are being complaied worldwide!!!! Unable to sync my iPhone with iTunes all of a sudden...

I'm presently unable to sync my iPhone with iTunes for some odd reason. It says "Syncing is disabled on this computer." I checked the iTunes settings and it said under "Syncing" in the preferences that it was in fact enabled so I don't see why all of a sudden I'm having these problems. Any suggestions?

I first reset the sync services in the (Applicantions - Utilities) Terminal: killall SyncServer syncuid SystemUIServer
Then I went to *User/Library/Application Support and dragged the SyncServices folder to the Trash.
Then I logged out from the Apple Menu.
Then I logged back in.
Now all of the syncing services are working correctly.

I recently opened an outlook email account which I have paired with my phone. Which is probably because on the Iphone there is an option for “outlook” when setting up an email account. However, when I go to add the email account to my imac there is no option for “outlook”. There is however an option for “exchange” which I may have tried to use however it asks for server information which I do not have.
I also tried to populate the add another account feature however it still don’t seem to recognise the email account.
Can some help? What am I do wrong? v

The OP is talking about an Outlook.COM Email address. Not MS Office Outlook.

Unable to iMessage Between iPhones

I have an iPhone 4S. My wife has an iPhone 5. When I try to send her an iMessage, the background on the message is green, not light blue - in other words, we are texting, not iMessaging. iMessaging has been enabled on both phones. Both phones are connected to 3G at the time. Why won't iMessageing work between the two phones? I am generally (but not always) able to iMessage with other iPhones. Why between my wife's and my iPhones?
I did notice this - when I go into Settings/Messages/Send&Receive, in the field under "You can be reached by iMessage at:", I see my iPhone number in there, ut it is grayed out. I don't seem to be able to activate it, i.e., I don't know how to "un-gray" it. Might that have something to do with the problem?

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Why am I unable to receive e-mail but I can send it? Mail version 3.6 for Macbook.

I took it to the Apple store and it had them all stumped. They kept saying I had to have a "bad" e-mail that was preventing others from passing. They tried to erase all e-mails but it still wouldn't work. When they were just about ready to give up the man decided to wipe out anything having to do with e-mail-and start a new account, so I lost messages, but once he cleared all e-mail related items on the laptop, the mail went through!!!
I haven't had problems since- so....I hope that helps!!
