Why are Apps taking up space on my Mac in iTunes when I have iCloud?
The Apps in iTunes on my Mac take up a lot of disk space. Why are they there at all? I use iCloud to backup my iPhone and iPad. iTunes Store keeps my purchase history. So, why are the Apps taking up space on my computer?

HT1977 Why are Apps not shown in left hand panel in itunes when my ipad or iphone is synced
I recovered my hard drive from backup in windows vista and reinstalled itunes. When I sync my ipad of iphone and select apps, the screen layout is shown in the right hand panel but the apps do no show up in the left panel. Before the recovery operation the apps were found in the left panel categorised as iphone and ipad.
Now I cannot temprarily delete apps in case they are permanently deleted.Great help - am running iTunes 12 and the last tip worked great .. Ta.. .. But......
I have now downloaded all my purchases from iPad into my 13" MacBook Air and its taken nearly 2G of disk space (which on the wee Air is a big problem !). I guess its transferred lots of files but apps like Adobe Draw and Sketch which I suspect have some big files do not show up down the page under the App > Files section in iTunes and many other apps are missing from here.
How can I find and delete all the files that have been sucked into my MB Air after restoring purchases. I have not chosen to backup my iPad to the Air, but who knows what iTunes has decided to do -
Why are apps taking up so much memory?
My iPod has recently started telling me that I'm low on memory and no matter how many apps I delete it seems to make very little difference. I then started deleting music because I thought it would probably be more effective but at the moment more memory is being used on apps than on music and "other" put together.
I only have 20 downloaded apps and yet they're taking up 3.7GB of space. From what I've seen this sounds completely unreasonable so what is going on? Is there a way that I can find out how much memory each app is using?
Many thanks for any helpful answers.Apps generally speaking take very little space, unless you have something like a location Map database downloaded (think GPS app), or maybe a game that has tons of screen images. Otherwise apps really do not take up much space, which is why when you delete them it does not make much of a difference.
So, again, unless you have one of the above mapping or very large game apps, you need to look to something else for the source of your storage usage.

Why are apps taking so long to download/update in the app store?
Applications i am trying to download or update in the app store on my macbook air (OS X Yosemite 10.10.1) take days/weeks to load at least half on average. Why is this happening and how can i speed the downloads/updates up, it's frustrating.
It's probably your internet speed, or something on your computer is impeding the speed. Try to do the updates from safe mode. OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

Why do I have to download songs/albums onto my iphone when I have icloud and purchased the songs from itunes? I thought the purpose of purchasing from itunes when you have icloud is that you don't have to download each song/album that you want to hear. I get like 5-10 songs from the last two albums i have downloaded, but not the entire album.
Are you talking about iTunes Match? If so, you don't have to download entire albums, all you have to do is play the songs you want to hear.
If you're asking why you have to download the music at all rather than just playing it from iCloud, the music has to be stored locally on your device, either in permanent or cache memory, in order for your device to play it. -
I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space. When comparing with others (some who have hundeds of messages) they are using under 1GB for their messages. Why are mine taking up so much space??
I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful. -
Why are old rental video's not being removed from my iPad once viewed? Are they taking up space on my iPad?
I wish that I had an answer for you, but I can't think of anything else to try. What I find so odd is that it happens to all 3 of your devices. That doesn't make sense at all unless it has something to do with how iTunes handles what is happening on the iPad when you sync your devices.
I update my iPhone 5S and my iPad 3 last night and then synced both devices with iTunes. When I plugged them into my MBP - they both showed an overcapacity it's due to "other". "Other" includes app data caches and when it grows out of proportion like that it means that something got corrupted. I synced the devices anyway, and the "other" dropped dramatically back to where it was on each device before I updated and where it should be.
What I'm trying to say is something may be getting corrupted when you sync with iTunes...what it is I have no clue. -

Why are only 3 of my devices appearing on the map when all of the devices were showing up 2 weeks ago.
I probably "over-read" the Apple website hype about the advantages of creating a single personal Apple I.D. which would apply to practically all things Apple. To quote: "An Apple ID lets you personalize your Apple experience. Once you've created an Apple ID, you'll use it to access Apple resources where it's helpful to identify yourself. From Apple Discussions to iTunes to the Apple Online Store and everything in between, Apple ID is your passport to the extended Apple experience."
Hence, I created an "Apple ID," following the example "[email protected]" (Who wants to miss out on a "passport to the extended Apple experience.") However, I already had an ID (though it was not my Apple address), and apparently was already the benefactor of the benefits of the so-called "personal Apple ID." Consequently, I now have two different iTunes IDs and two different passwords. Apple has responded to my requests to have a single ID by saying that my request is for the impossible. I simply have to remember both IDs and both passwords, entering both when attempting to use different computers and devices while downloading and taking inventory of my iTunes files.
So I'm pretty sure I've followed your suggestions already with respect to all 3 "eligible" devices, but I'll certainly give it another go-round. From what you say, it appears that being "associated" with the cloud should not limit me only to an iPod Touch 4th generation. -
I have 100's of CDs that I have downloaded to my itunes library and they are in the library playable but they do not show up in the C drive under the iTunes Music folder under users. Why are they in the libary and not in the itunes music folder. Win 7 OS. When I look in the library under the get info screen it says they are in the folder itunes music, under the c: drive but when I actually go to that folder to look for them they are not there....HELP!

Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences.

Why are there so many more choices on the USA iTunes Store? Surely having an iTunes account should let you access all itunes availability the world over?
Also how do you request films/tv series to the UK itunes? There's tv series I'd like but they're incomplete like The Batman & Xena Warrior Princess. And films theta aren't available for download but you can purchase in a store like HMV? Apple isn't doing itself any favours by secluding countries by their store. They'd make billions if you could just select the iTunes Store you want to search & purchase from just by signing in! If anything what they're doing is putting themselves into a corner, other companies like Samsung & HTC are already on too of them for innovation & ease of use. The people they're attracting are predominantly existing Apple users not new customers. What do you guys think?It's not Apple's choice, they can only sell a particular item where the content provider/rights-holder has granted them a license to sell them. Content is licensed by the rights-holders to Apple on a country-by-country basis, each country therefore has to have its own store, and you have to be in a country to use its store - they want control over where their content is available.

I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook 10.6.7 but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive. I have an external WD hard-drive, and I was wondering if it is possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my Mac?
I think you're confused about how much hard drive space you have. You probably have 2 GB of RAM... there hasn't been a Mac shipped with only a 2 GB hard drive in a while. At the bottom of any Finder window, how much space is available?
If you're actually running low on space, you should move documents to the external drive, since many applications want to be on the system drive. -
why are my movies not showing on my Mac Book, which is the computer that I used to purchase the movie, but showing on my IMAC at home...I am currently deployed so this ***** a bit. Also how do I keep this incedent from happending in the future?
No, this is not the case. I know where i purchased the movie and I also know movies cant be added to the cloud such as music, TV shows can. The instance happened during the dowload. I think that depending which computer is up and running and the bandwith allocated on either network, which ever computer that finishes first is the one that gets the movie. Just a thought. So next time I will ensure my IMAC is not running. I think that fixes it.

Just upgraded to firefox 4 and websites are now taking ages to load, there were no problems when I downloaded the upgrade. Is there a fault with the new version of firefox?
Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.
