Why are my batteries dying so quickly?

I've only had 5 battery load cycles but my battery capacity is at 49% of the original? What the heck? After reading a few threads on these forums about this, I was seeing numbers like 500 load cycles in 12 months, etc. with 25% or so original battery capacity, so I don't know why my numbers look so off for me.
Image: http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=104972&d=1203995468
I heard that I get a free replacement considering I have so few load cycles but so little batter capacity left? Also, I heard that Coconut battery (the application I am using) doesn't count load-cycles properly in Leopard?

Interestingly, in another thread the poster has only 5 cycles reported by CoconutBattery despite regular battery use. Since your MBP is 19 months old according to CB, and that seems reasonable for the Core Duo listed in your signature, I expect you have a LOT more than 5 cycles on your battery, unless you never run on battery. CoconutBattery is incorrectly reporting this value.
That's why the replacement program that you've heard about specifies +"Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count ( *_as shown in System Profiler_* ) of less than 300."+
So, check your actual cycle count in System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info > Power). If it's less than 300 with the reported full charge capacity (which CB does seem to report correctly), contact AppleCare. If it's >300 cycles, you still need a new battery, but it probably won't be free (although you can ask ).
Hope this helps...

  • Why does my battery die so quickly with iOS 7?

Why does my battery die so quickly with iOS 7? Charged to 100%. Unplugged and opened up an hour later. Down to 88%. Why? No apps open.

I think it might also be a bug, my 4S went down to 1% I could actually see it go down from 18% just like a watch. The phone started at about 60% and went down to 1% in about an hour but the useage still stated I had over 6 hours of stand by time, when I plugged in the phone to charge it jumped from 1% to 27%.

  • Why does my battery die so quickly after updating to iOS 6.0.2 on the iPhone 5!?

Is there a fix to this or do we have to wait for the next update? My iPhone has become a useless 2-hour-running brick in my pocket...

Yes, my battery is draining quickly and recharging slowly.  Search is extremely slow, aol email won't work.  Kindle app all messed up, lost all on device but have it backed up on amazon.  I have slowly been discovering all that is wrong since Sunday's debacle of an update.  Apple deleted a post siting improper just because i told the truth.  They can delete all they want but this is one  screwed up mess and they are desperate.

  • Why are the batterie on the iPod touch not so good?

when i charge my ipod 4 gen it say its 75% but if i use it for like 5mins it says 20% left then it shuts down also why do they over heat when you charge it or play on it.thanks

From your description you may have a hardware problem like maybe a battery problem.  To rule out a software problem I would :
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPOd
If still problem I would make an appointment at ther Gewnius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Why is my battery dying so quickly since the most recent update???

Ever since I updated my phone yesterday my battery in my iPhone 4 which usually lasts 24 hours without needing a charge only lasts 4 hrs at most. What happened?? How can it be fixed? Very frustrating

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I am having the same problem. Did turning off iCloud work? Did you just turn everything off or did you actually delete the account off your iPod?

Why does my iphone die fast?
I mean it wont even last a day?

Battery life is dependent on what you are using the phone for. First time users and users that have just gotten their phones tend to do a great deal with them. Extensive use of the Internet and other processor intensive tasks can drain the battery quickly. Also being located in a poor cellular coverage area can force the phone into constantly searching for a 3G signal and will drain battery as well. Check the Apple website for a link on battery suggestions or search here for other suggestions on how to minimize battery drainage.

  • Re: Why are BT so useless

    Hi
I re-joined BT last December on a BT Business Oneplan.  I am self-employed and work from home.   The deal was too good to resist £73.35 per month inclusive (this includes line rental and braodband) except mobile calls abroad .  I paid online monthly at first and everything was going OK until I was asked if I wanted to pay quarterly.  Big mistake.  I received a bill for £845.  On 7 June 2010 I wrote to the BT Correspondence Centre in Durham asking for an explanation and have not had the courtesy of a reply.  I then received another bill for £845 at the end of June and could get no explanation from BT Billing.  On 11 August I was cut off.   As I was going on holiday first thing on 12 August I started my holiday by have a stressful conversation with BT.  They reconnected me.  Said they would sort things out.   Big joke.  Since then I have been phoned three or four times by a lady in India.   I cannot understand her accent and she speaks very quickly.
I am self-emmployed and have spent hours and hours trying to sort this out.  To whom at BT do I send my invoice for lost time?

Why are BT so useless the problems I have endured with this company over the past 5 years i really and truly loathe them and it just never ever improves . for example
    1. Left without Broadband for 6 months it finally took an Engineer 5 minutes at the local exchange to fix
    2. Spray painted my house started legal action as they refused to accept liability 3 foot BT was sprayed on front of my house had to get a graffitti removal company to remove . no compensation
    3. Up until feb this year had a line speed of less than 0.5 meg despite numerous phonecalls requesting compensation for all the time I was paying for a service which was supposed to be at least 2mb nothing ever came of it . Having been meaning to report to Oftel and this is a breach of the sales of goods act but as 4 members of my immediate family have all died recently it has gone on the backburner but im now on it again AND I WILL get compensated and not the insult of 10 pounds that was offered .
    4. Latest farce with BT i have not heard and phone calls for past two weeks soo assumed my 6 month old telephone (BT's) were to blame as the phone worked just no ringing for incoming calls . Purchased new phones at cost of £129.99 and still same problem . Placed a fault call engineer came out and confirmed that it was the Router that was in fact at fault and apologised but as it was not the voice that was at fault I would receive a charge for his visit and please call broadband for a new router. Being trying to get a new router for 6 months now but had given up but tried again today 3 hours on the phone finally got one ordered checked the order and it was not even going to be delivered to my address (despite the girl requesting i can confirmed my address same as my billing ) !! another painful call to correct that and maybe i might finally get a new Router and maybe get a service that i pay for . I cannot even begin to start the dread and loathing i have when I have a problem with BT as the pain is so immense I just wish I could use another provider but unfortunately due to where i live this is not an option .Every time i have a problem BT continues to take take money and no offer of compensation is ever forth coming and even when I ask for it and i am entitled to it you are met by a brick wall of Indian call centres and pointless beaucracy hours on the phone all designed to stop us the consumer exercising their rights . My advise to anyone who has the issues with this company is take it all the way to Oftel document your complaints in absolute detail and if enough of us complain then the massive fines imposed willl strip this disgrace of a company of its profits and may maybe they might start treating us with the respect customers deserve

  • Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken?

Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken? For example, try searching for SocketChannel and then clicking on any of the returned links, in particular click on www.oracle.com/technetwork/servers-storage/ts-4222-159193.pdf.
This is the second time I have tried to search for Java information and both times found broken links.
Does anyone know where I can find more information on using a SocketChannel?

They have a huge investment in it and would need to replace or discontinue a number of products that they paid quite a bit of money for.
On the other hand in might just be that they don't much about providing support that doesn't lead to revenue. Thus support contracts have a support channel while public links get little support.

why are my duotone images turning black and white when put in indesign?
I have been playing duo and montotone images into indesing with no trouble. Then all of a sudden as I placew them they go black and whitre. I have tried everything from re saving, re making in photoshop and differant colours et5c. But nothing seems to wrok. The images already in my document arew fine it is just new ones. If someone could help that would be great

Can you start a new document and then load one of the duotones known to be good in the working file and have it correct? If so, try one of the duotones known to be bad in the working document in the new file. Does it work?
If no to either suggestion, can you share one of the images known to be good and one known to be bad? ZIP 'em up and upload to dropbox and plop a link here. Or, to keep the file sizes down, you can quickly make a new set and provide those.
As well, the ID version and OS info would probably be helpful.
    Take care, Mike

  • Why are my Illustrator images getting thicker strokes when I take the bounding box and make them smaller?

Why are my Illustrator images getting thicker strokes when I take the bounding box and make them smaller? This has never happened to me. I'm not an expert at Illustrator, but I do know some fundamentals.

Thank you for responding so quickly. No apologies necessary - I know this Forum isn't McDonalds - don't expect an answer to be served up right away. You helped me out with a big issue yesterday.
    I am using a mac - OSX 10.7.5
    I have Adobe Creative Suites - CS5 - Illustrator version is 15.0.2
The contents I am placing are all  Vector - Illustrator files
But, I wonder about some of the vector files I work with.  Could a "line weight/thickness" be 'assigned' to the drawing and screw things up? I used 'simple' linear (line) drawings from SolidWorks that have been converted to ai files. It's just weird because I checked the stroke of the drawing and it's not out of line.
I am attaching part of some box labels. You can see how the drawings, of the products, on the 'left side' are "thick" after embedding them. I think the "Global Logo" was pasted into a template not linked that's why it's okay. But look at the Quiet Thunder logo - it looks terrible. These labels are only 2.25" X 6.5", so its important I keep the images lightweight.
Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you!

    Michael,
I read Ed's thread and I understand about the timing of the Full (Incr Lvl 0) and the incrementals.
In my case I'm not doing any incrementals (Incr Lvl 1) of the database, just Incr Lvl 0 every day. I do the archivelog backups during the day to keep the /arch mount point under control.
So, if I have Incremental Level 0 backups on the 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, ..... With an 8 day recovery window I shouldn't need the ones from the 19th or 20th at a minimum and possibly the 21st depending on when the math is done. Right?
    Am I missing something?
    *************** NEWS FLASH ******************
Whoops!!! Egg on my face! I just checked back in my email logs of the backups and now recall there were some disk space issues around that time that caused the backups to fail and it just so happens that the backups on the 20th, 21st and 22nd all failed.
I should learn to trust RMAN more. It is obviously smarter than me!! :-)
Sorry for the red flags. I'll do my homework more completely next time.
Not a problem. We've all been there, done that.
I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck on something, run out of ideas on my own research and thrown a question to the forum, and no sooner to I hit the 'send' button that a light goes on and I quickly get my own answer.
At least I understand the recovery window scenario better.
Thanks very much for the help and I'll see you the next time.

  • Why are ACR PSD files 10-20 percent larger than the same file resaved in PSD?

Why are ACR > PSD files 10-20 percent larger than the same file resaved in PSD? I posted this many years ago and never found an answer. Now that my drives fill up quicker, I thought I might chase this question a little bit further.
Same .CR2 saved within ACR either with cmd-R or open ACR within PSD, the saved file is 34.5mb. Resave that same file (no edits) within PSD either with or without Max-compatible and the file is now 30.7mb. Another file that is 24.5 becomes 19.5MB.
Why the difference? Is ACR and PSD actually using different compression strategies?
    thanks.
Mac 10.8.5 / CC / ACR 8.4.1 - but this has been a consistent behavior over many years and versions, CS6 / CC.
Same .CR2 saved within ACR either with cmd-R or open ACR within PSD, the saved file is 34.5mb. Resave that same file (no edits) within PSD either with or without Max-compatible and the file is now 30.7mb. Another file that is 24.5 becomes 19.5MB.

    Hi Jeff
If it is RLE it's not as efficient as LZW:
Saved ACR>PSD = 40.1MB  (sample image this AM)
opened in PS and resaved as PSD = 30.8MB
resaved as TIF without LZW = 40.1MB    (this adds to your thought that the ACR>PSD doesn't us any compression)
    resaved as TIF/LZW = 9.6MB

I really think your priorities are a bit off. 10-20% is meaningless...you just need to get bigger....  and quit fussing over a few GB's here or there...
???   I hope that the Adobe engineers are fussing over 10-20% efficiencies.
I'm within arms reach to a rack of 40TB of drives (doesn't include off-site drives), and all 2TB drives are being recycled to 4TB drives, as a result the rack is always growing. Actually the ACR>PSD files don't really make a difference in our long term storage, only for the nightly backups. But anyway, how you save, what you save etc. should all be part of the discussion.
.... so in my case, throw in an excess MB here and there and all of a sudden you are talking TB's. Plus advantages in backup times, drive life, and energy use.
Somebody added compression into the PS>PSD format, but it wasn't included in the ACR>PSD format, was it a decision or an oversight? If it's just a matter of making ACR compatible with PS when saving the same PSD format..... then why not?
