Why are my @font-face fonts so much thicker on firefox than any other browser?

Here is a side by side comparison of the same text in chrome and firefox. Chrome renders it correctly. [http://mvmdesign.org/other/Chrome%20Font.png Chrome Font] [http://mvmdesign.org/other/Firefox%20Font.png Firefox]

Found the answer in another thread. Went from 7.2 GB to 1.12 GB after restore and backup.

  • Why are 'saved as' .psd files so much bigger than original raw nef files?

I was under the impression that original raw files were the biggest possible. I appear to be very wrong. Why are 'saved as' .psd files so much bigger than original raw nef files?
I'm beginning to think that saving them as psd is a bad idea.
Yes, though I've heard all the arguments of keepng the original raw files (For ex. Did you throw away the negatives when you were using film) I se eno purpose in keeping them. Once I've made the initial adjustments--cropping, color correction etc. I don't feel a need to ever go back and never do. Most of my work is done in Photoshop and I like it that way--but suddenly finding myself with such huge files doesn't appeal to me at all--and other formats like tif...well never mind for now.

Good point made c.pfaffenbichler however, my thinking is this--there is time spent on the raw file and then there is much more time spent on (usually a psd) the file once in Photoshop. For me to then go back to the orignal raw file, after having worked on it on PS would mean getting rid of all the work (larger amount of work, time wise and artistic wise) done on PS which seems pointless. Although the psd file does show your layers and stuff it only shows the end results of that layer. It does not show from where to where you pointed your brush, from what point to what point you changed the color or part of an image etc. etc.Anyhow I understand why most people keep their raw files, but this is the main reason why I do not. It would mean hours of work on an image you already worked on (and usually were satisfied with) to perhaps make some minor alteration. Also please note that though I was noce a pro photog, no I do it mostly for fun. Getting the exact red in my Coca Cola can has never been of importance. On the other hand, if there were a way of working on a raw file within Photoshop and keep it (save it as) a raw file equivalent, then I would absolutely do so.

  • Why are TV shows (like Supernatural) so much more expensive to download (SD or HD) than sites like Amazon?

Why are TV shows (like Supernatural) so much more expensive to download (SD or HD) than sites like Amazon?

They aren't really that much cheaper on Amazon. For Supernatural season 7, each single episode in HD is $2.99, same as iTunes. If you buy the whole season on Amazon, it's $2.84 per episode. Maybe $2 cheaper to buy on Amazon.
Remember though, on Amazon, you can't sync the videos onto an iPad/iPod/iPhone or Apple TV. In iTunes you can.
I prefer to buy on iTunes simply for the convenience, iTunes makes all the differance.

  • When I closed out of yahoo email, get a blank page on every tab if any are opened. I have to exit out & restart firefox . It does not happen w/any other browser.

When I sign off on yahoo email. I get a blank page on every tab if any are opened. I have to exit out & restart firefox . It does not happen w/any other browser. I have no malware or viruses. Please advise.

Actually, it's not obvious & common sense would dictate that users' bookmarks would not be left stuck to random computers even once they've logged out of the account. No one wants that if it's a public work computer or if they're traveling & use an Internet cafe. As I am not the only one who has noticed this issue or had bookmarks disappear/be deleted, in addition, common sense would indicate it's not really a very good system. And carrying around a flashdrive to run Firefox off of it is a good solution? Really? Just curious why a useful feature such as being able to login & use your preferences & bookmarks & then logging out removes your preferences when you're gone hasn't been developed. Yahoo keeps my preferences when I logout (it's called My Yahoo!). Maybe a My Firefox or My Chrome solution could be developed.

  • Is the macbook pro much better than any other laptop?

I am currently wanting to buy a laptop, I am deciding whether to buy a macbook pro or just a regular laptop. Is it really worth it to spend so much more?
    Thank you! ~ mtumbler

Don't forget where you're asking that question.
Since nearly all people here have Macs, we obviously felt they were worth the price.  "Much better than any other laptop" is a fairly subjective statement.  All the major manufacturers have excellent high-end options.  When comparing prices, you need to compare similar specifications and quality.  You can certainly get cheaper PC computers, but similarly spec'd machines with similar build quality are generally around the same price (and actually sometimes somewhat higher).
The areas that most of us would agree puts Apple at the top are OS X, quality/design, and customer service.  Only Macs can run OS X.  For those of us that use OS X, we typically prefer it over Windows (by quite a bit).  However, this isn't always a positive for someone moving over from Windows.  There is a little bit of a learning curve.  If you are going to need to be able to do everything you want, you need to understand that it might take a little time to figure everything out.  You can install Windows alongside the Mac OS to help make the transition a little easier, but that requires that you purchase a copy of Windows.  So far as quality and design...  Apple has always been a leader in this area.  However, as I had mentioned earlier, most major manufacturers have caught up in this area... at least with respect to their high-end offerings.  It's really a matter of preference in terms of which you like more.  No one offers the same level of customer service that you'll get from Apple.  No other manufacturer has retail stores like Apple where you can go in with your machine and have someone (who knows about Apple products) check out your machine on the spot.  Their phone support is also excellent and their user support community (where you're at now) is second to none.
So... most of us would agree that we feel Apple products are "better".  But if you were to go to a typica PC forum and ask the same question, you'll find people who would argue fanatically that they're not.  The reality is that there isn't that much of a difference in the hardware.  You need to decide if something like the OS (which you probably don't have much experience using), design, and support are important to you.

  • Why ios Safari doesn't support Arabic @font-face fonts?

Recently, we decided to use some arabic webfonts from fonts.com in our projects, but we have had trouble with ios safari arabic webfont rendering. It's really ridiculous and amazing!!!
I checked different fonts with different format(ttf, svg) from different online font hosting services. (fonts.com, fontdeck.com, ...) but the Arabic characters didn't display with my fonts and it just displayed by default (I think it's Arial) font by ios safari!
I am sure that the fonts download but the characters doidn't show with my font typeface! because, interesting, I tested with other fonts (the glyphs English numbers in these fonts replace with arabic numbers) so when safari rendering the fonts it showed the numbers with correct fonts (webfonts) but it didn't show the arabic character!! :-)
I checked all those fonts in Mac and PC with Safari, Chrome, FF, IE, everyrhing is ok in both platform but in ios it has problem?!!
I want to know that, Is this problem/bug from ios Safari that resolve in ios6 or this is apple policy that don't show any other fonts?!!! (Think Different!!?? )
How can I tell the apple this problem, because with this bug or policy we cannot use the great fonts that designer designed with whole efforts. Is there any issue tracker or bug report from Apple that we can tell them this?

  • I upgraded to Firefox 6 random websites are using illegible fonts from my computer instead of the default. No issues with Firefox 5 or any other browser I use. Each time I open Firefox or reinstall it a different illegible font appears. Please help.

    Firefox 6 using incorrect fonts.

When I delete the font that keeps showing up as the default, a new illegible font appears. The fonts are not 'garbled' they are just decorative typefaces that are being grabbed from my computer. I have never had an issue with my fonts on old Firefox versions or other browsers like chrome, safari, etc., so I don't think the issue is my fonts. I also don't want to have to delete all the fonts off of my computer. I uploaded another photo of when I deleted the font that was appearing before. Please help if anyone has found a solution to this problem with Firefox 6+ :/

  • Why are colors in Illustrator 6 so much darker than in Illustrator 4?

I recently switched from Illustrator CS4 to CS6. The colors in 6 are much darker than in 4, and are not accurate to actual Pantone colors (they were very close to being accurate in 4). Has anyone experienced this, and does anyone know what to do about this?

Your color management settings may have changed since you said all colors are darker. check your color management settings match between CS6 & CS4.
    Edit >> Color Settings
In regards to the difference between CS6 and CS5 or before the color books are now LAB not CMYK, so that means the values are different. A bad thing for print if you change the color mode to CMYK, the colors will be far off what the PMS book says, and you will have to manually fix this e color to match what CS4 uses.
CS5 the book colors were in CMYK so when you converted to CMYK the colors were a close match for printing.
In CS6 the color books switched to LAB which may be more accurate for RGB and digital workflows, but not Print CMYK.
In CS6 converting to CMYK, introduces scum dot (small value which serves little purpose and introduces screening) in cyan and black you would not desire, and in for example flexible packing scum dot would increase the visibility of a moire pattern. For printing never use the CMYK conversion in CS6.
Depending which PMS book you use the CMYK values change.
485 is 95m 100y in the Latest Color Bridge Book, so many brands prior to the bridge book reject that cmyk match for brand consistency with existing printing.
485 is 95m 100y in the solid process book.  Many brands stick to this especially if they are matching what their brand was prior to the color bridge.

  • Why Oracle than any other database?

    Just needs the inputs .........
What makes Oracle database better than other.
What are the features that makes Oracle as the preferred database.
Recently One Pre-Sales guy from Sybase asked me why Oracle and not Sybase or any other Db.
    How to handle such questions......

Lock escalation. There is no such concept in Oracle. Can you lock a million rows in Sybase using a row lock alone and still allow concurrency for other sessions to also lock a million rows? If you commit a million row transaction, how long does it take in Sybase? In Oracle, locking one row or a million rows has the same overheads - there are no overheads. Commit a transaction, be that a one row transaction or a million row transaction, it is equally fast (and usually sub-second).
In Sybase readers block writers and writers block readers. Which means that for readers not to be blocked, they need to read uncommitted (dirty) data. In Oracle, readers never block writers and writers never block readers - and the data delivered via a read is always consistent.
Scalability. No other vendor has anything like the shared everything cluster technology from Oracle called Real Application Clusters.
And this is just scratching the surface. Sybase is technically inferior to Oracle. And that is just a plain fact.
Once sat with a couple of Ingres engineers that were flown out from the UK to fix some serious bugs. Invariable we got talking about db features and they "us too" when I mentioned an Oracle feature. Only I knew that they had no real concept of what the Oracle feature entails and that the so-called equivalent Ingres feature does maybe at best 50% of what the Oracle feature does.
So I showed them instead something simple. Or so I thought. I did a 'SELECT count(*) FROM table' on our data warehouse platform (and old HP box) on the largest fact table. It returned the answer of 700+ million rows in far less than 30 seconds.
Their reaction? First stunned and then the question, "Is this a required feature for the database?", implying that it too can be done (hacked?) in Ingres, should the customer require such a fast select on such a huge table.
No idiot - it is not a requirement. It is simply how Oracle works out of the box when used correctly.
IMO, it is not even worth getting into these feature vs. feature matches with these 3rd party database experts. They do not want to understand what makes Oracle technically superior than their product.
Read the Sybase DBA manual.. or Ingres DBA manual.. or SQL-Server DBA manual. Look at the sections that deal with performance tips and hints. It is fricken scary. And stuff that you will never ever have to deal with in Oracle as it is simply not a problem in Oracle.

  • Why are previously active typekit fonts not showing in Illustrator font menu?

I have opened a file the fonts were used in previously.
Illustrator behaves as though the fonts were never installed.

    Hello,
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this! In case you weren't aware, the Creative Cloud application needs to be running on your computer in order for the fonts to be synced. This help page shows how it works:
    http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/1145956
Once you have Creative Cloud running, please try turning off font sync, wait a moment, and then turn it back on.  The option to do this is under the gear icon in Preferences > Creative Cloud > Fonts ("Typekit on/off"):
Sometimes the app just needs a fresh session for the fonts to appear again.
If that doesn't make a difference, please send me a screenshot of the Assets > Fonts tab in the Creative Cloud desktop application and your recent sync log files to [email protected], and we will take a closer look.  Here are instructions on where to find the log files:

  • Why are some of my fonts no longer working?

SInce upgrading to Snow Leopard, I have noticed that many of my previously working fonts no longer work. Is there some kind of incompatibility font bug that was introduced with Snow Leopard? Has this been addressed in Lion?
If not, how do I get my fonts to work? These are fonts that gave me no trouble at all under Tiger or Leopard.

Have a look at Kurt Lang's article on font management.
Some font formats changed in SL.
