Why are my iphoto 11 slideshow pictures distorted in idvd?

I want to create a dvd of my slideshow I created in iphoto 11.  I shared it with idvd and the pictures were distorted.  How can I fix this problem?  Thanks for any help.

Hi
A. I don't know - I don't do it like that. Lack of KnowHow.
B. I do it by using either a video-editor or a dedicated program
• iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any version
• FotoMagico™
I do not use - iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - as they discard every second line in export to iDVD (What evere way one take)
To get as high quality possibly - read
DVD quality
1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
• Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (if movie + menu is > 60 minutes)
• Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
About double on DL DVDs.
2. Video from
• FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
• iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
• iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application.
4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
iDVD quality also depends on.
• DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
_ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
• HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
• How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
• Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
• Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
• What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
• What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
• What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
• How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
1 = US
2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
• Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
• No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
• Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
• Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
• Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
• Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • Slideshow Picture Distortion in iDVD

I have created a slideshow in iPhoto and it plays perfectly. When I use Share to export it to iDVD so I can create a DVD, some of the photos (about 10%) are distorted. The rest are fine. How can I fix this so all photos are displayed and rendered in the correct proportopns in iDVD?

Try exporting the slideshow out of iPhoto as QT movie movie and use it in iDVD by dragging it onto the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.  Use the File ➙ Export ➙ Slideshow menu option with the Large (720 x 540) size.  See if that won't work better than the Share method.

  • Why does my iphoto slideshow turn blue after exporting?

why does my iphoto slideshow turn blue after exporting?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Why are some of my pictures from my iphone showing up as blank green screen when I try to add them into imovie?

Look under "More like this" on the right of this page, specifically "Re: no photo selected"; the discussion there may be of help.

I need to minimize the space photos take on my MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.  They are in iPhoto, Aperture, Pictures/Photo Library, etc.  Are they taking space in all of these locations?

Are they taking space in all of these locations?
It depends on how you are using iPhoto and Aperture.
iPhoto and Aperture each create their own library files, and the default location for them is in /users/youruseraccount/Pictures
You can configure iPhoto and Aperture to use the same Library file, in which case your photos are only stored once.  But if you are using iPhoto & Aperture with independent library files, you may in fact be duplicating your storage.
The second consideration is whether or not you have configured iPhoto and/or Aperture as reference libraries, in which case their library files only reference photos you have stored in other places on your hard drive.  Setting them up as reference libraries does not duplicate the photos inside the library files.

  • Why are the iPhotos not listed in the finder?

why are the iPhotos not listed in the finder?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

I think the OP is refering to this:  http://tv.adobe.com/show/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/

  • Using the new iMovie and importing pictures from iPhoto, why are some of my pictures blurry?

I Know this topic has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything recent about this.  I have iMovie opened & I'm putting the pictures in. In iPhoto the pictures are clear, but when moved to iMovie, become blurry. I know it has to do with the resolution of the picture but I can't find where to change it at

As far as I know, you can't change it: first, your photo is probably a .jpg and iMovie will be adapting it to a video file which will result in somewhat of a loss of quality and second, if your original picture is small, it cannot be enlarged without significant loss of quality as it will get blurry while the individual pixels are being made larger - that depends on your camera settings and its photo output size. So it could be either or both of those that is the problem here. Check your camera and see what size you are taking your pictures in.

  • Why Are Many iPhoto Files Now Thumbnails?

Greetings All: I've searched the forums for answers to my question, and there is a partially useful solution which dates back to 2006 about shrinking photos in iPhoto. All one needed to do to get around this problem was to go to ~Library/Pictures and make sure that iPhoto Data wasn't the selected folder for iPhoto. The solution was to select iPhoto Library as the source for iPhoto.
Now, things are a bit more complex. I cannot find a Pictures folder in ~Libary directory. It's now moved to ~Pictures. I have only one iPhoto libary file and it's called "Rebuilt Library". When I'm in Events mode and browsing iPhoto, I can get the app to show me the individual files, but I don't know where to find them. Often there are six copies of any given file with (EDIT) appended to one of the copies. As I click on each one, it's apparent that they are all tumbnails. Some of the photos are orignial size, but many aren't.
I wonder if I am doing something wrong, selecting an improper libary, or if I can kiss 800 or so of my Africa photos "goodbye"?
    Thanks in Advance.

    LN:
I use iPhoto '11 v9.3. I own a MBP i7 dual core running OS 10.4.7. How did I get to the individual photo files? By selecting an indivdual photo, going to the "Edit" menu on iPhoto, and dropping down to the "Reveal in Finder" command. I saw folders marked by date full of individual photo files. I clicked on several of them which seemed to be duplicates named in series; for example:
    IMO2345.JPG
    IMO2345.1.JPG...
    IMO2345.6.JPG
All seven photos were identical and all were of thumbnail size.
Also present were photo files marked with (EDIT) such as
    HOLIDAY2005.JPG
    HOLIDAY2005(EDIT).JPG
Again, both photos identical and both in thumbnail size.
I opened these photos with Lemke's GraphicConverter. You say this is an SQL database and cannot be interpreted by any other application but iPhoto. (I had to look up the definition of SQL.) From my non-tech point of view, I was struck by the fact that there was so much duplication, so many (EDIT) files, and all in thumbnail size which is how they appear in iPhoto. I didn't delete or rearrange any of the files. I won't monkey around with that database again.
There are two iPhoto libraries in my ~Pictures folder. One is iPhoto Library which is blank. The other is Rebuilt Library which contains all the data; it was created at the suggestion of the iPhoto application I was running in about 2006-2007. I don't recall exactly how I accomplished this.
There are still some photos which are at normal size. I recall going through the approximately 4,500 photos in my iPhoto collection (there have to be copies in here) and taking out thumbnail duplicate photos. I took a photo journey to Africa a few years ago, and some of those photos seem to be thumbnail now, which makes me panic; however most of the other photos I have in iPhoto are thumbnail size now. I don't know how to proceed from here. At the time I did it, looking at the individual photos in the folders seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I'm a doctor, and I felt like doing some exploratory surgery. But I won't do that again.

  • Why does the iPhoto slideshow I exported as a movie only last 5 seconds?, How do I save an iPhoto slideshow as movie?

I followed the instructions for exporting an iPhoto slideshow as a Qucktime movie, but when I drag it onto my iWeb page, it only plays for 5 seconds.  What am I doing wrong?

I started having this problem last week. It affects new and old photos. Maybe one in several hundred photos has this problem. Some of them were fine earlier and have been in iPhoto for years.
This seems to be a rendering problem of some sort. When I click on the thumbnail, a fuzzy low-rez image comes up full size, but instead of resolving to full resolution the screen just goes black.
I imported 30 images yesterday. Jpegs created from RAW files by Nikon Capture. All but one are fine. The actual file in the library seems OK (I tried the suggestion above). I can export the photo and it's fine in mail or other viewers. It's just that Iphoto can't seem to display it at full/high resolution. At first I thought that it might be due to the size (12Mpxl) but the other ones are fine, and some of the old images this happens to are small (2mpxl) and taken as jpgs by an old canon point and shoot.
I'm using Iphoto8 7.1.3(364) and the only thing that's changed on my computer recently is adding the latest 10.4.11 java and security updates.
I tried to duplicate the photo, and the problem also occurs with the duplicate. I can't do the revert trick, since I haven't edited the file in any way since import.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm happy to send the affected photo if it helps.
    Thanks.

  • Large Iphoto slideshow no space on IDVD?

Hi I am not by my computer but......I am not sure where I lost a lot of space as I have 8800 pictures and a lot of videos mostly from the digital still camera. Anyway I deleted or saved externally a lot of the movies and other pictures so I have 26 gigs free now.
My slideshow created with the scrapbook template in Iphoto is 4.6 gb. When I say share to I DVD its says disk is full? I am assuming harddrive
I DVD is the best way to be able to burn to disk and watch on ant tv correct.
Does it need a lot more space to get to IDVD than the 4.6 size the slideshow iss?
should I just keep moving pictures out of Iphoto externall (also back up via disk too)
    Thanks
    Thanks

The limiting factor with iDVD and disk space is *+playing time+*, not file size. iDVD can create projects that play for 2 hours, including menus, even if the file sizes add up to more than the disk's capacity. That's because iDVD will compress the media so that it will fit on the disk to match the 2 hour playing time.
After you create your iDVD project and add the QT movie you can check the project status in this window:
What is the playing time of your iPhoto slideshow? Keep it to about 1 hour 50 minutes and you should be OK.

  • Why are my iphoto scans so small?

My scanned pictures are being imported to iphoto at a very small size (396x261 for example). I have an HP7310 all in one. Prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion, they were importing at 3 times that size. Any suggestions?

iPhoto doesn't appear to have any import settings that would automatically change resolution.
I'm sure you have, but have you verified the resolution size of the scanned photos before importing to iPhoto.

  • Post 2.2 - Why Are Some of My Pictures Blurry?

I was wondering if there was a reason why some of the pictures I had synced to my phone (not taken with my phone), which were crisp images prior to 2.2, now blurry? Did something change in the way it handles photos that don't exactly fit the screen size/resolution? Do I have to go and alter the original images to match the screen size and re-sync the photos back to my phone? Thanks for any help.

Apple needs to make this problem go away as fast as possible. How could they let something like this slip through?
The only argument a person could make in defense of the lack of MMS on this device was the ability to e-mail pics to and from the phone. This bug has crippled that defense and crippled the iPhone.
I know Apple was in a rush to get the 2.2 software out on the same day the Blackberry Storm dropped...but c'mon.

  • Why won't iphoto send pictures

When I try to send multiple pictures using the fun templates included with iphoto, an error message comes up every time saying "username and password not recognized by e-mail server."  this cannot be correct since I've since deleted and added both of my e-mail accounts multiple times and made sure the password was indeed correct each time.  i've closed iphoto and reopened it.  still doesn't work.  i've made sure the ports match up too, still doesn't work.  anyone else having this same problem??

    Others do
you may need to call tech support for your email service and have them walk you through the set up
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences
