Why are the Mac Pro's dropping their server connection over a PC network.

This seems to be a common thread on the discussion, but I can't find a resolution. I have a mix of G5s and Mac Pro's all running 10.4.10. All the machines are set to manual 100BaseT Duplex. The Mac Pro's constantly drop their network connections or show write errors when you are trying to save. Can someone point me in the direction of the answer? thanks.

After installing Yosmite, The following message is stopping me accessing my disk utility.  'You can't use this version of the application “Disk Utility” with this version of OS X.' you have “Disk Utility” 12.1.1.
not only that my Mac pro keeps dropping my internet connection and logs on to BT Open.
    Help

For whatever reason you don't have the Yosemite version of Disk Utility which is 13. I suggest you reinstall Yosemite.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Check that you have the current version of Disk Utility.

why is the 'mac pro' missing from the mac store?
I always enjoyed speccing up machines that i will one day upgrade to.

ooh! i am my third mac pro and i love them, in my opinion it is still the best looking case (inside and out) on the market . Fingers crossed they can come up with something better.

Why dont the Mac Pro's with Retina Displays have a CD/DVD drive? Will Apple eventually stop producing CD/DVD drives?

Because Apple did not put one in there.
Will Apple eventually stop producing CD/DVD drives?
We can't really answer that, but it would not surprise me. More and more of the computers being produced by Apple lack an internal optical drive. If you really need one, get an external such as LowLuster suggests.
    Best of luck.

  • Why is the Mac Pro considered a business computer

I am finally ready to replace my old G5. However, when I look at the Mac Pros, they seem to be considered a business box. Why?
    thanks,
    Danuke

The whole point of a MacPro is:
    - processor's raw power (more cores) for software that actually uses it;
    - GPU power;
    - ability to upgrade and expand easily HD/SSD - GPU - RAM and/or other internal hardware;
    - reliability under heavy load.
I'm the Chief engineer for a TV station in Oregon - These Mac Pro's get used and used and used. They are not very "green" - the power consumption on them are pretty bad, but they can handle just about anything you can thow at them ... especially when it comes to needing to use your GPU like crazy!! The case is built like a brick and the cooling is awesome.
They are a expensive computer, but they fill a notch that is hard to fill with just any old computer on the market today.
    My 2 cents worth,
    Bill

  • How Warm Are The Mac Pros?

I've got a Quad G5 and this is my primary complaint about the machine... how the room where I've got it is quite noticeably warmer than even the immediate hallway...

I think i noticed this when I first turned on my Mac Pro. I think it has something to do with the power supply. I dont' know what the noise is though. I don't hear it anymore, but that is probably because I only hear my APC UPS click on when the Mac Pro turns on / wakes up.

  • Are the Mac Pro's graphic cards are upgradeable?

    been wondering...
if i buy the basic configurtion Mac Pro will I be able to upgrade the graphic cards later on ?
everybody speaking about upgrading Ram or CPU no one speaks about the GFX

No. And you can't upgrade the RAM or SSD on a Retina either. Are you talking about Macbook Pro's or Mac Pro's?

  • Why does the Mac Airs keep dropping the network

We are using WEP and or WPA-WPA2 Personal. Once the lid is closed and reopend, system ask for admin user name and password. This happens on just the Macbook Airs. Our WAP's are Cisco. Or when a teacher is working with the unit, the signal will just drop for a few minutes, then come back up. Any one else having this issue and what did you do to resolve thie problem?
    Thank.

  • Using the MAc Pro as a media server

I am thinking of buying a mac pro (currently have Imac which is noisy) and using it as a media server. Does it make a lot of noise or can it be run so that it is very quiet.... I plan to place it in the same room as the hifi and screen ie my living room? Any thoughs or examples happily recieved

I lost my decibel meter some years ago (probably in a box in a
closet somewhere ) so I can't tell you exactly but my MacPro
system is virtually silent. If I hold my ear to the case I can
hear my 3-drivve (MaxLine III Maxtor) raid occasionally accessing
but I personally cannot tell if the system is on or off without
    looking at the power-light.

  • Just got the mac pro and mouse will not connect.

I've googled the heck out of it and can't find anything wrong.  At this point I don't know what else to say but, the mouse isn't working. Checked batteries, went through ALL processes, and nothing seems to work.  All I get it the green status light blinking or it will say it's connected for 30 secs but doesn't do anything. If anyone else has any other help or info I would appreciate it.

How far is you mouse from the back of your mac pro and is there anything between those two points?  Beyond about 3 to 4 feet the MM on a mac pro for many people is problematic.  Here's a 24-page thread on this topic:
Poor Bluetooth reception and jerky mouse
Bottom line, use a bluetooth dongle (that what I use -- IOGear GBU421) or wire up an external antenna to the bluetooth card inside your mac pro.
As an experiment you could try doing a smc and pram reset and keep the mouse close to the back of your machine and seeing if it pairs up and stays connected.

  • Why does the Mac Pro merge email accounts?

When I set up the email the MacPro merged mine and my husbands accounts.  How can I separate them?

INBOX is by design, the Union of all of your listed email accounts. I have six email accounts for various purposes that feed into my inbox.
If you want to look at them individually, just select the specific email account you wish to see displayed.
Mac OS X is prepared to have login accounts for each person, so that all their individual preferences (screensaver, opened Applications, desktop background, and lots of other items) can be tracked separately.
If you do not want to view your husband's email in your Inbox, give him his own login and put his email account there instead of in your inbox.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro keep dropping its wireless connection?

    Hi everyone,
Last year I purchased a 2013 Macbook Pro 13". Everything had been working well up until yesterday afternoon. My wi-fi connection keeps dropping roughly every 5 minutes for no apparent reason, with an exclamation mark flashing over the signal strength icon. It runs on Mavericks with all software updates etc. up to date. I live in a student house with 7 other people, so the network could be overburdened, though it's been fine until now. I've reset Safari, deleted info regarding the wireless network and reinstalled it, and deleted all the keychain info, but it hasn't really helped.
I would be grateful for any responses, thanks!

    Hello aidenhh,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend following the steps in the section labeled, "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • When using Creative Cloud Library assets created in Illustrator why are the naming conventions I use not being pulled over into the Photoshop layers?

I create the Creative Cloud Library asset in illustrator and give it a name such as "camera-icon". It shows up in my Creative Cloud Library pane in Photoshop as "camera-icon". When I use that asset in Photoshop the layer is randomly named "a56bd81d-d81f-4815-82b3-5795d410b527". Why is this happening? Shouldn't that layer resolve the name back to "camera-icon" so that when I extract files for use in my application the naming convention is correct. Right now I have to manually rename that layer again. Is this a bug or have I just not done something correctly?

I think you have pasted the entire crash log. In case of such issues in future, please paste the error screenshot.
Seems to be a permission issue. Lets follow the below suggestions:
Solution 1: Rename the following folders on your machine:
    '/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Profiles'
    '/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Recommended'
Solution 2: Rename the following files:
    '/Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps/Media_db.db'
    '/Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps/pdb.db'
Make sure you dont touch caps.db under the same folder. Now run the installer again. Let me know if you need more help.
    Solution 3:
Please Run following commands on terminal on the machine (this will remove the corrupt fonts and should allow you to run the installer successfully) -
    sudo mv "/Library/Fonts/ACaslonPro-Bold.otf" /tmp/
    sudo mv "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SavedFonts/current/AdobeArabic-Bold.otf" /tmp/
    sudo mv "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/HelpCfg/de_DE/goURL_lr_photoshop_de.csv" /tmp/
Please feel free to respond to this thread if you have any questions about the steps listed within the document.  If you could also respond with the specific error message you receive, It would be appreciated.
