Why can't I post a new topic in the Leopard discussions.

The option is available in other Apple discussions, but for some reason it's not an option for me in the Leopard area.
I just want to ask a simple question about why Firefox is now launching every time I restart my computer, but don't want to do so in a discussion about Final Cut or iLife or any of the other forums where posting a new topic is an option because that would be bad etiquette. At the same time, I'm not given much of an option.

Hi dddnlb!
"Why can't I post a new topic in the Leopard discussions."
The info posted below is also available in the Announcement How to Post a New Topic
If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Leopard.
Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
But some may have only one, two, or three.
For example, the Safari Category page, has three choices listed under Forum / Category:
Safari For Windows
Safari for Mac Support forum
Safari 4 (Beta).
And the Apple Remote Desktop Category, has only one Apple Remote Desktop Forum.
From a Category page, select an appropriate Forum to post in.
On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
More info here How Is Discussions Content Organized?.
Edit: I have requested that a Host, relocate your Topic to a more appropriate Forum.
As it will be transferred, it is not necessary for you to repost elsewhere, at this time.

  • Why can't I post a new topic in the Safari discussion board?

When I go to the Safari discussion board, there is no Post New Topic button.
    Why?

    Hi Scot!
You are probably on the Safari Category page.
From there, you need to click the Safari Forum page.
On Forums there is an option to Post New Topic.
    EDIT: Yep!

  • Why can't I post a new discussion?

    Wow,
I just "upgraded" to Macericks, and have nothing but problems.
i posted two discussion on the forums, and now I seem to be blocked from posting more.   I guess the administrator got all offended because I sadi that the Mac OS is now worse than Windows.  Geez, I guess we have to pretend that everything is great in order to stay on these forums?  Apple doesn;t want to know when its users are upset?  Great  attitude, guys.
So now what?  I have a Mac that is practically non-funtional, and I don't eve have an OS disk with which to revert back to the old system.
My business just came to a standstill and there's nothing I can do?
Does anyone have ANY idea how I can get out of this mess?
    thanks.

This leaves the later Mac Pro 65lb towers in a somewhat precarious position.
These models do not appear to support Internet Recovery. But there is no "ships in the box" DVD to fall back on. They also cannot boot directly to the last "Full Retail" Installer DVD (which only has 10.6.3 on it).
It sounds like it is extra important to have at least one of:
    • an additional maintenance System Drive,
    • another device with a Recovery_HD on it [Time Machine backup drives from 10.7.4 or later have a Recovery_HD],
    • a home-made Installer DL DVD or
    • a home-made Installer 8GB thumb drive or
    • a Recovery Disk Assistant thumb drive (which makes a copy of your existing Recovery_HD onto a smaller thumb drive).

  • Why can't I open a new Tab with the "Plus" sign or "Command-T"?

If I want to open a New Tab, I either press "Command T" or select "New Tab" from the File menu, or click the little "plus" sign in my Tabs bar - - - right? None of them work. What am I missing?

This problem in is Firefox on your Mac?
May users have discovered this problem is caused by Conduit add-ons, such as a Conduit plugin and/or a "Community Toolbar" extension.
You can check for and disable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that help with the "+" button? If so, could you name the specific extension that caused the problem?
You might also check the Plugins section of the Add-ons page. You can use "Never Activate" to disable plugins that you don't ordinarily use.

  • Why can I not open a new tab in the new Firefox? (via the + sign or Ctrl T)

In the new interface on Firefox (which started for me today ... May 2 ...), I cannot open a new tab via the "+" sign along the top or by using Ctrl + T. If I want more than one thing open at the same time, I need to open a "New Window", which doesn't make much sense. I don't necessarily want a bunch of windows but may need a few tabs open at the same time.

Hi bmail, I am attaching an illustration of cor-el's suggestion showing what it does since I wasn't aware of that before.

  • Why can't I open a new tab? The + is there, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I've even tried File - New Tab. Still nothing!

Suddenly, I am unable to open a new tab. I can click on a link and open a tab that way, but if I want to open several sites on my own, I have to open a new browser. I've tried clicking the +, and clicking File - New Tab. Neither are working. I've even checked Tools - Options - Tabs. That didn't work, either. Please help!

  • Why can't I add a new contact from the phone app?

I am trying to add a new contact from a call I got this am.  I get to the contact screen but I can add anything - ie no keyboard pops up to type anything in.  I also can not use the copy function to copy the number into the contacts app.
This is TERRIBLE!!  As a person who is on the phone for a living, I need to capture numbers as I get those calls!!
Has anyone found a solution to this problem with IOS 7?
I will probably go to the genius bar this afternoon....
    Thanks

    Try resetting your phone:
Hold the home button + the lock button for about 10-12 seconds until the Apple logo appears.  You will not lose any data or current settings.

  • Why can't I open a new tab for the same website? Want to disable 'switch to tab'.

I used to be able to open multiple tabs for the same website on Firefox 3.xx. I could download files from one tab and work from another. How can I disable the 'switch to tab' function?

You can disable it by using the Switch to Tab no more add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/switch-to-tab-no-more

  • Why can't I browse by release date in the Albums view?

I listen to Vocaloid music, specifically Megurine Luka. When I want to check for new releases, I do a search for Megurine Luka. I then click on Albums to see a complete list of every album in which she has at least one song. That works great, but I can't refine the search by release date. I just get a seemingly random list of albums. So, to check for new releases, I have to go through all of them, looking at the release dates. Sometimes the new releases are at the bottom, sometimes in the middle, sometimes near the top. If I had the option to view by release date, it would make that much easier. Is there a way to do this, and I'm just not seeing it?

  • Why can't I record a new track?

Hi. I'm getting reacquainted with the new Garageband and laid down an acoustic mandolin track. Now I want to lay down an acoustic guitar track. But no matter where I click to activate the new acoustic track, the recording seems to go OVER the mandolin track (which I also can't hear). Why can't I record a new track where the guitar is indicated, and why can't I hear the mando as I do this? In the previous version of garageband this was straightforward. Thanks, david

We need to know more details.
Have you set the "Record enable" button in the track header?  (Track > Track Header > Show Record enable). Which track is enabled for recording?
Have you set an input in the Smart Controls > Info pane for the track?
    Also:
What kind of track did you use? An Audio Track? A Guitar Track?
Did you create the Guitar track by duplicating the Mandolin track? Then Crate a new track for your guitar from scratch. Dplicating tracks will link them.

  • Can't post a new topic

I have been trying to post a new topic without success. First, under the discussions there is no such topic I want to place mine under. I then proceed to do a search under "clock" under which I can find a button to place my new topic.
Basically I want to place a topic about if someone know any software/hardware on "Biometric punch clock" for the Mac.

    Hi Angel!
    Here is some additional info.
If you have a question, or suggestion, about using Discussions, from this page Feedback about Discussions, click on Post New Topic.
If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Tiger.
Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
But some may have only one, two, or three.
For example the Safari Category page has four choices listed under Forum / Category, but only two of them, are Forums:

    Safari for Mac Support forum.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • When posting, please post a new topic if you don't have an answer!

Occasionally you may be tempted to add your voice to a chorus of complaints. Unfortunately, if what you are here for is to get assistance for a problem which you can't find an answer for, trailing an existing thread with a second complaint, is usually considered bad form. It has been given the nickname of "threadjacking." Instead, when you don't have an answer, and are seeking an answer, start a new topic by clicking on the Discussions header links of the board below the big bold text "Apple Discussions" to locate the board most appropriate for your question. Once you have found the board appropriate for your question, above the posts on the upper left should be a "Post a New Topic" link. Use that link to create your own topic. If that link is not there, you have probably already entered another thread, and if that is the case, use the link Batch to Topic List link to return to where you can Post a New Topic.
Here are the advantages to not threadjacking:
    1. You will get a much wider audience of possible experts to help you out.
    2. The original poster of the thread will not get advice that does not pertain to their situation, and you won't get advice that doesn't pertain to your situation. You wouldn't want either you or the other person to get the wrong advice and try something which could make them get more in a hole.
    3. The experienced users with this situation won't get confused who they are offering advice to and give the wrong advice to the wrong person.
    Thank you!

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • Kad: What is a forum, board, and category and how to post a new topic?

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Apple encourages you to first seek a solution at Apple Support. The following links are provided as is, with no guarantee of the effectiveness or reliability of the information. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.
In the Discussions Feedback board you'll see this quote:
If your question concerns a hardware or software technical issue, please do not post in this forum — instead, go to the Apple Discussions Homepage, select an appropriate product category and follow the links until you reach the correct forum for your post, then click the Post New Topic link.
It appears that many still miss this advice as they go ahead and ask in the Discussions feedback page how to post a new topic. This advice is as clear as can be, though some may not understand what the terms are in this quote. To clarify Apple Discussions is organized into the following elements:
    Apple Discussions Homepage
    - Categories of Topics
    - - Individual _Topic Forums_
    - - - Individual _Topic Threads_
When you enter a Category you will see _Topic Threads_ but no Post New Topic link. The reason for this is that all the threads in each forum are combined beneath the individual Forum links. If you wish to post a new topic in any specific Forum, you have to navigate to the Forum first to post a new topic in that Forum. Don't let the preponderance of views or responders make you think you need to post a "me too". In fact this makes it harder on the original poster to determine what is the cause of their problem. It is better to post your own topic, so you can get more focussed attention, and a wider audience who can help you. If you have a reply that might lead to a solution for the original poster, by all means reply. Otherwise you just contribute to the length of the thread, and don't really help in finding a solution.
An example of a Category: iMac
An example of a Forum: Using your iMac G5
Note also the header of the board says: "Category" or "Forum" to help guide you.
Be sure also to identify your Mac or operating system before posting in specific forums, as some Macs may look similar. If you need help, ask first.
