Why can't I wait for Mtn Lion to use iCloud services?
I have an MBP running Snow Leopard, a new iPad and an original iPad, and an iPhone 3G. I have been a MobileMe user from its inception. I haven't wanted to "upgrade" to Lion on the MBP, but will jump over it to Mountain Lion in July. I've read the workaround by Wilmer(?) for moving my me.com mail account to iCloud while still at 10.6.8 (lie and say i'm running Lion) and should be able to handle that. I will miss my MobileMe Gallery but all photos are in my MBP's iPhoto folder anyway, and I've emptied my iDisk folders. I do sync calendar and contacts via MobileMe among all my devices, but as long as I'm sure that both are "on my Mac" before 30/06/2012, shouldn't I be able to lose MobileMe and wait until late July to formally make my MBP "compatible with iCloud" by purchasing Mtn Lion thru the App Store? I realize the iPhone 3G is "legacied-out". But, will my wife's original iPad be able to sync calendars and contacts via iCloud, like it does now via MobileMe, if I wait as I've described? BTW, we are US ex-pats living in Mérida, Yucatán, México. No Apple Store, albeit there are authorized resellers. Pero, no tengo suficiente español para hablar mucho con "technos" sobre ésta pregunta.
As regards your Mac, the process you describe will work. I can't advise on whether an original iPad can access iCloud - probably not, as iOS 5 is required, but I don't know whether it's upgradeable: someobdoy else may chip in, or you could ask in the iPad forum.

Click on 'Mail' in the upper left corner next to the Apple ()
Click Preferences
Click the 'Accounts' tab
Make sure your iCloud account is highlighted in the column on the left.
In the account information section what does it say next to:
Incoming Mail Server?
Outgoing Mail Server?
Also, did you use MobileMe before the iCloud? -

I currently have Snow Leopard and upgraded RAM to 4GB on an older iMac Core Duo in order to use iCloud features in Lion. Also, I'm wanting to upgrade iMovie and iPhoto, but I'm having difficulty finding a download link that will let me do it online without going through the App Store, and it says I need to be running 10.7. I feel like I'm in an "obsolete" double bind until I upgrade to Mountain Lion and it isn't possible yet. I'm wanting to use iMovie 8 or higher in order to download AVCHD video. I just bought a new camera that shoots AVCHD and I can't download any HD video, nor can I find any of my old video which used to be on iPhoto and would open w/ Quick Time. Yes, you can purchase Lion as well as iPhoto and iMovie from the App Store. But before you can do that you must update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 by installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 update. Then you can sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and password, locate the items you want, purchase them, and download them to your computer.

At least to 10.6.8. You must do this to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.

The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Nobody can tell you that. We don't yet know what the pricing will be or what kind of compatibility issues may arise. If you don't need anything in Lion right now, you can certainly wait, and if you do find the features of Lion compelling, there's no reason to wait for 6 months. Buy what you need when you need it, and don't worry so much about what's ahead... there's always something new coming soon!

If you have a Jabber ID used in iChat and you add a Buddy the Buddy gets an Authorisation Request invite.
iChat sends this Invite once.
The Buddy cannot be properly in your Buddy List until they accept.
However other Jabber Apps constantly sends the Authorisation Requests again and again until the person Accepts or Declines.
In iChat if the Buddy misses the Request the Buddy list is left hanging with the "Awaiting" message.
GoogleTalk and Facebook IDs ware valid Jabber names if you have Enable "Talk" on Google an "Chat" on Facebook.
Try Deleting the Buddy from the list (Highlight and then Backspace key)
Then Add them when you know they will see the request.
(Or get a Third Party Jabber app and run that after adding their name until they reply)

Why can't the finder in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 find files that have successfully downloaded, or that other programs can find?
This happens with maybe 1 out of 5 files. These are files that have either an ."aa" extention, or or are libraries that icloud can see, but finder can't.Files beginning with a period are invisible and library files are system files. Spotlight cannot find either unless configured to do so (btw, this is not a Finder issue but a Spotlight issue.)
Get Spotlight to search system files (and more)
Enter the search term in the Finder window's search field.
Click the [+] button in the search bar to add a search option.
In the first drop down menu choose Other.
Choose “System Files” from the list that pops up (and check the box to place in drop down menu to avoid this step later,) click on the OK button.
Now back in the Finder choose Include from the second drop down menu. -

There are plenty of apps still compatible with iOS 4.2.1. Not a majority, necessarily, but they're still out there. If the app you want requires a newer version, find another app the accomplishes the same thing.
Of course, it may be too late for that now, since you chose to hack/jailbreak your iPhone, and it is currently a brick. As varjak paw stated, this forum will not help you with your hacked phone. -

I bought my iphone5 last Mar 1, 2013. However, it was stolen/lost last friday Jun 14.How can I locked it for them not to use or resell it?I'm not registered at ICLOUD. I am not expecting it to be returned. I just want the unit to become useless already so that stolen/lost Iphone or any kind of apple brand gadget will no longer be of interest by others to buy it from any thief or any person who will resell it in just a small amount.
Sorry, but if you did not set up Find My iPhone, then unless your iPhone is set up with a company Microsoft Exchange server or other mobile device management system, there is no way to wipe the iPhone of its data, though if you had a screen lock in it, the thieves/finder will probably restore it and wipe the data anyway. There is no way to lock the iPhone permanently to prevent someone from using your iPhone, though you can report the loss to your cell carrier and they may be able to blacklist it from connecting to their network.
