Why can't my Macbook Pro connect to iPhone 5 in any way (lightning cable, Wi-Fi)?

I have a Macbook Pro, I bought it in June or July or 2011, so I'm not sure which model that makes it. But anyway, just recently, I noticed that when I plug my iPhone 5 into it, it does not recognize or acknowledge that my phone is plugged in at all. It doesn't show up in iTunes, or anywhere else for that matter. I've also noticed that with the lightning cable, it will only charge my phone on one side. I've tried plugging my cable into both usb ports, but still, the lightning cable only works on one side. I tried another cable, same thing, but when I plug both of them into my wall charger, both sides work fine.
So after my Macbook didn't recognize the phone through the cable, I just thought "eh, whatever, I'll wirelessly sync it." So I go to the settings on my phone, go to iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, and it says "Sync will resume when "Austin *****'s MacBook Pro is available." but no matter what I do, the computer never becomes available. I've considered that it might be the phone that's the problem, because I don't have another computer to test it on, but I don't see how it could as I just got this iPhone 5 just over a month ago, and it has not been dropped, or gotten water on it or anything. If anyone can help that would be amazing, as the employees at the Apple Store like to always tell me I have to buy something new, and that isn't an option right now.

Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Note: AirDrop for iOS supports only iOS 7 devices. You cannot use AirDrop on iOS to share with OS X, and OS X users can't use AirDrop to share with iOS devices.
    Yes, I was surprised too!

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro connect to my wifi?

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.5.  My ISP is BT Vision so have a open reach fibre modem and a BT HomeHub. All my other wifi devices (iPhone 4S, 5S and Ipad 3) connect to my home network and internet first time every time! However, my MacBook is extremely temperamental.
When the laptop does connect to the internet it takes a random combination of restarting and turning the wifi on and off. If the laptop is left to connect on its own it either takes an extended period of time (30mins) or it simply won't connect. I have looked through the wifi settings but can't see any reason why the laptop won't connect. The wifi network is visible all he time.
    Any ideas?

I know how to solve this problem had the same issue, its basically because you BTHome hub runs a 5GHz frequency a long with a 2GHz frequency and for some reason your mac tries to connect to that even though they dont have the techologies will allow them to run on that frequency, making you not connect to the internet. To fix this log into your homehub settings onlin by going to http://bthomehub.home/then going to advanced settings, wireless which should be under it and then click on the 5GHz and turn it off or rename  it and click apply. So you can make your laptop connect to the correct frequency. IF you can connect to the internet on your laptop then you can still do the same steps and process on your phone or any device that connects your BThomehub.

  • Why can't my macbook pro / macbook air read FAT32 external hard-drive?

I have a USB external hard drive that's formatted as FAT32. It worked fine under Windows and Ubuntu Linux.
here is what it shows under ubuntu:
    Disk /dev/sdc: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors
    Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

    /dev/sdc1            2048   976773119   488385536    b  W95 FAT32
As you can see its file system is FAT32, and as I understand FAT32 read/write is supported on all MACs.
However when I plug it to either a Macbook pro or a Macbook air, it said:
The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.

  • Macbook pro connects to iphone through bluetooth but can't access the internet

Hello, I have a macbook pro 10.6 and an iphone 3gs 4.3.3. I used to be able to connect the macbook to the iphone through bluetooth using personal hotspot and access the internet but one day it just stopped working. I have tried turning them off and on, disconnecting bluetooth etc but nothing has worked so far. I have tried connecting my iphone to my ipad2 through bluetooth, it works great. The iphone to the macbook through usb and it works great as well. I have tried connecting another iphone to my macbook through bluetooth and it doesn't work. The bluetooth on my macbook seems to be the problem
Well, to be more precise, the macbook sees the iphones, connects to them through bluetooth, the blue bar appears on the iphones screens but the computer wont access the internet.
    Any idea?
    Thank you very much.

    SUCCESS!!!!!
I visited my brother-in-law yesterday and attempted to connect with his secure network. By sheer luck, he is using the exact same model LinkSys router. My iPhone connected first time--so the iPhone was eliminated as a source of the problem.
I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting at his house, but I did notice that his network was set for both dynamic DHCP and dynamic DNS. I know that either or both of Windstream (my ISP) and my broadband modem requires a pair of static DNS addresses.
Sure enough, delving real deep into Windstream's support site, I discovered a LinkSys router DNS help page, specifying how to set static DNS addresses in LinkSys routers. I then accessed my router, enterd the known static addresses, saved the router settings, then rebooted the iPhone and connected to the network.
    SUCCESS!!!
Thanks to Jane, who suggested it was an ISP issue, Jason, and all at Apple support. dumonj, I'll email you directly. Try this suggestion and see if it helps.

  • Why won't my Macbook pro connect to the internet, yet my desktop PC will?

My 13 inch Macbook Pro was purchased back in March of this year, but recently I've been unable to connect to the internet. Within the network settings it says that my Airport is on and has a self assigned IP and that both the ethernet and firewire are not connected. Yet when on my desktop PC, everything seems to be working fine. I've concluded that it couldn't be my router, at least I'm pretty confident it's not.
I've tried the usual reboot, unplug router routine but it still won't budge.
    Please help!

Just connected my ethernet cable directly to my macbook, and the internet is working fine. So is this an issue with my router then?

  • Older MacBook Pro connecting to iPhone 5.

I am trying to connect an iPhone 5 to an older MacBook Pro. It is too old to update to Mountain Lion but needs an update for a newer iTunes. What is the latest I can run on? It's currently on OS X 10.4.11.

You need to purchase and install Mac OS X 10.6 and then run Software Update. Your computer might be able to run Lion, but you'd need to upgrade to 10.6.6 or newer to buy Lion, and as the latest version of iTunes will run on 10.6.8, in this case it doesn't really matter whether or not it actually can use Lion.

  • One of the USB ports on my Macbook Pro isn't working. Any way I can fix this or will I have to take it into the store to get repaired?

I bought a Macbook pro this July. Everything has been normal except about a week ago I started noticing I had to plug things in a few times in order for them to connect. Today I realized that one of my USB ports has been the problem, not my devices. THey connect right away when plugged into the right USB port next to the SD slot, but not at all when plugged into the left slot by the firewire hookup. Is this a problem that has a quick fix or am I going to have to go to the mac store?

    Reset the SMC and PRAM
    SMC Reset:
    Shut down the MacBook Pro.
    PRAM:
    Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Why won't my Macbook Pro recognize my iPhone 5s?

    SPECS:
Macbook Pro Retina, Mid 2012 (OS X Version 10.9.1) = up to date
iTunes (Version 11.1.4) = up to date
iPhone 5s (Version 7.0.4) = up to date
My Macbook Pro won't recognize my iPhone when I plug it in.
The problem is not related to cable issues as the phone charges fine when plugged into the wall.
I have tried rebooting both my Macbook Pro and iPhone.
My only guess is something in the latest iTunes update is causing this problem. Help?
    - TheStallion

I bought a new cable and finally tried it to no avail.
A few days ago my iPhone 5s lost all functionality (not due to any damage on my part). I took it to an Apple store and they told me that something was wrong internally and gave me a new phone.

  • HT204347 if my macbook pro was stolen, is there any way i can find it ?

i bought my pro two years ago, but it was stolen yesterday, is there any way I can find it ?  please help. it hais important documents and pounds of memeries.

    If you had iCloud enabled...
    Go to www.icloud.com >   iCloud
then login then click Find My iPhone  (works for finding your Mac also)
This will only work if the Mac is turned on and Find My Mac was enabled in System Preferences > iCloud
If you did not sign up for iCloud before the Mac was stolen >  Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product
A stolen or lost device cannot be located from the serial number.

  • Why can't my MacBook Air connect to Internet?

I'm at my Dad's for the holidays.  I normally connect my MacBook Air to his Wifi router without any problems.  But now I can't.
Here's what I do to connect:
    Apple icon>System Preferences>Network>Choose his network name>Assist me>Assistant
This gives me the Introduction window with a present location name.  I click Continue.  The "I use AirPort to connect to the Internet wirelessly" radio button has been selected by default. I click Continue.
I select his wireless network name and put in his password.   The "Ready to Connect" window comes up and it tell me I am ready to connect to his network.  I can see the wireless icon in the upper right corner of my top window pane searching for the signal.  At this point in the past, this is where it has locked onto the signal and given me Internet.   But it gives up after a fews seconds and I get a greyed-out exclamation point.
I click Continue and I get a new window saying, "Unable to establish a network connection."
So I don't know what to do.  I use his laptop to connect to the Internet wirelssly without any trouble.  I have tried connecting mine sitting right by the router with no luck.  As I said, in the past, I've had no problems connecting.   As far as I know, nothing is different with my laptop and nothing is different with my Dad's setup.
Does anyone have any good ideas?  Troubleshooting?   Thanks.

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?
    PHY Mode
    Channel
    Security
    Signal/Noise or RSSI
    Transmit Rate
Please do not post the BSSID, as that information is private.
Now hold down the option key again and select

  • Can retina macbook pro ssd be upgraded in any way?

so can 13 inch models ssd be replaced with bigger storage option? are there any apple or third party replacements available? if yes then what is aproximate cost for each and how fast can replacement drive be(can it measure up to original) ?

For late 2013 MBPs, only Apple could do any repair in the situation that you describe.  Exactly how they would do it, I cannot answer with authority, but if the SSD was the only issue, I would think only that would be replaced, not the whole logic board.  The SSD is held in place by one T5 Toex screw.
    Ciao.
