Why can't upgrade to 10.6.8 from 10.6.3

I just purchsed a DVD of OS 10.6.3 and have insalled it on my MacBookPro that I purchaed several years ago.
After the installation the computer worked just fine, but of course, a new version of the program is available, !0.6.8, on the internet so I tried to install it and ran into some major problems.
First it indicated that the operation would take over 45 hours, so I left it to itself and went away. The next time I looked i had this message on the screen:
I really am still connected to the internet and I have no problems "getting on". I have gone through this proceedure several time with the same results.
What in the heck am I doing wrong?
Need some help , big time.

Cheese, now I have a new problem along those very same lines. I am trying to update my software, one at a
time, and all goes well unill I get to the security update 2011-006. Then I am back to the problem.
My internet connection remains to be in working order.
What might be my problem???

You probably have a 2G iPod and those can only go to 4.2.1. If 8 or 16 GB it is a 2G. A 32 GB can be either . To identify yours:

I have not found any article that has answered this question. They have come up with things like open the side bar and it will work, or you are using wrong format of music. Now this all happened when I upgraded to iTunes 10 and has not worked since and it worked fine before. Music format is correct, I have even gone as far as copying a file already in iTunes and trying to add it again. As soon as the files enters the frame of iTunes the music files icon the pointer is carrying turns into a circle with a slash through it.
ITunes Ver. is 11.1.5.5 Windows Ver. is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
Files I have tried adding are standard MP3, 256 kbps purchased AAC Audio file, MP3 converted by iTunes into a 256 or 320 kbps AAC Audio file. None can be draged and droped but all can added by going to File/Add File to Library... or File/Add Folder to Library...
Add items from your computer to your iTunes library
Do either of the following:
1. Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window.If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
2. In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
I can add files and folders by doing number 2 above but can not doing number 1
I have gone as far as uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling per apple procedures below.
Steps
1. Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended effects.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did : Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
Click OK.
Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
Works fine now.

Why can I no longer import Mp4r files from my desktop (Macbook Pro) into Itunes? Seemed to work perfectly well before the latest upgrade. Feeling quite annoyed, especially when all the forums seem to give the same advice, which no longer seems to work!! Please can someone help! Uploading a file should not be this difficult!!!

Make sure you have the Quicktime Player 7 installed. It was an option when installing Lion. Or you can get it here: QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later. Install it, reboot and try again.

Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).

You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

I am trying to get my old library onto my new computer and the best way for me to do that is take them off of my I Phone 3gs and "transfer purchases" but when I try it the "authorize this computer " shows up and it is already authorized! So I still give my info, and it tells me this computer is already authorized and then does nothing. It keeps going on like that, it's a frustrating circle!

Are you trying to download YouTube videos with a Firefox extension?
YouTube (Google) seems to have made changes to their servers and that prevents the extensions from working for now.<br />
You will have to wait until the extension developer has released an update to fix this or check for a possible beta version.
