Why can't we have Camera Raw 8.5 open as an external editor in Lightroom 5 to allow using the new filter brush
ARC 8.5 has a new filter brush for the graduated filter which will allow deleting areas from the applied area - why/how can ACR 8.5 be set as a external editor to allow access to this ability??? . Or when will Lightroom be upgraded to have this feature?

ACR 8.5 is a plug-in for Photoshop not a standalone program. I’d suggest doing an Edit In Photoshop CC/2014 and then using Filter / Camera Raw in PS to do your edits.
I would also LR will be upgraded at some point, but maybe not until 6.0. It’s hard to say, since the LR folks are having to deal with LR mobile things, now, too, PS is part of the cloud, and a promise of the cloud is to get new functionality sooner.

Why can't I update Camera Raw 6.6 through Help menu?
I have a Photoshop Element 10 Editor (the one bought from App Store), and now I try to update Camera Raw to 6.6. After reading through Adobe's website, they suggest to update it from help menu but problem is I couldn't find the update in my help menu. What did I do wrong? So I then downloaded the Camera Raw 6.6 from Adobe Website trying to manually install it, and now I got a message "Update is not applicable". What does this mean now? Any advice please...
Also, I contacted Adobe via Live Chat, and then I got supporter who asked me for only serial number otherwise there is no help. I then told him, App Store did not provide one but seems he doesn't have a clue what is App Store and insisted me to contact the store directly to ask for a serial number. ??? I tried to explain him that the App Store is the store where you downloading software online through Apple's computer, and he seems still not understand what App Store is and concluded me if I have any other question I would like to ask? Great.. so I asked him where he is residing and he replied "India". Well.. I don't know how the support live chat go through India, but I want a support from someone who know what "App Store" is. His name is Vasu, seems to be a gentle man but.....You can't update it because you have the app store version. Apple doesn't allow apps sold via the app store to update any way except via the app store, and adobe evidently doesn't think it's worth creating a whole new version every time there's a raw update. EDIT Incidentally, although I doubt it will help with tech support (they often seem to be missing all PSE pages from their script books), for the app store version your serial number is your apple ID, at least when it comes to qualifying for upgrade pricing and things like that. -
Why can't I save camera raw defaults?
I am currently unable to reset my camera raw defaults in CS5 (Camera raw 6.5). When I click on "Save Camera Raw Defaults", the changes do not show up when I open up a new image using Adobe Bridge. I seem to be stuck with the changes I made some time ago. What could be happening?
Camera Raw uses the same settings you used last time to open a file. That's just the way it works. The defaults you set will be used on any image you haven't opened before.
In order to revert an image that's been opened before to the new defaults, you need to do one of the following:
1. Choose Camera Raw Defaults from the menu:
2. Depending on how you have configured Camera Raw to remember your past settings, either delete the sidecar XMP files or go into Edit - Preferences - Camera Raw... and purge your Camera Raw cache if you'd like to throw away all previous settings and have future opens use your new defaults.

I have Camera Raw 8.7.1 installed. Sometimes it will show me icons for the Graduated Filter and the Radial Filter and I can use both. At other times it will not show the Radial Filter and of course when that happens I can't use it. Why?
I have CS 6 installed as well as a subscription to Photoshop CC, but I don't use CS 6. I'm just keeping it around in case Adobe jumps the CC subscription price out of sight. I was using Photoshop CC and Bridge. I always pass my .nef and .jpg files through ACR first. Sometimes the Radial Filter button is there and sometimes it is not.

Which camera make and model are your Raw files from?
Camera Raw ships with Photoshop and is constantly upgraded by Adobe to keep up with new cameras as they are released to market.
It's likely that your camera requires a version of Camera Raw which is not compatible with your CS5. Or you may simply need to upgrade Camera Raw via Help > Updates in Photoshop. -

Can't Upgrade to Camera Raw 6.3 in LR 3.3
I can't upgrade to Camera Raw 6.3 because - althought I run Lightroom 3.3 - I'm only running the CS4 version of Photoshop.
This means that Lightroom won't process my Canon S95 RAW files.
Have I misunderstood something?
By the way, I KNOW I can use Canon's own software to process the S95 RAW files, but a workflow's a workflow; wanna use Lightroom!!
thanksLR 3.3 uses ACR 6.3 and will import any supported RAW files, (which includes the PowerShot s95) and render them for use with any version of PS.
ACR 6.3 will only work as a stand alone application with PS CS 5.
If you have LR 3.3 and you do not have PS CS5 you do not require ACR 6.3 as it will not work with CS 4 or earlier versions of PS.
To use your files in PS just open from LR (right click on the file and select edit with PS). Lightroom will then render the file for use within any version of PS without the need for ACR. When you do this LR should clearly state that it is rendering the files as CS 4 does not support ACR 6.3, this makes no difference to the rendered files once opened in PS as LR and ACR both use the same engine. Process 2010, lens adjustments etc. (the new stuff) will all be present in the file irrespective of the PS version. -

If you have a camera that is newer than what was supported in that version then you will either have to upgrade to the current version of Photoshop or else you can use the free DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your raw images. Those will open with what you have now. There will not be any more updates for Camera Raw for Photoshop CS3. That version is out of production and is no longer being supported or updated by Adobe.

Two different processes can have different task initiators...task initiator means creation of a process instance which can happen only once -
Raw files for Nikon D810 not showing a picture in preview for photoshop cs6 . Have camera raw plugin 8.6.0.250 File will open in ACR and process but no picture before opening raw file.
Are you referencing Apple's Preview application or the Preview panel in Bridge? Huge difference.
Try purging the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge. -

I tried the task manager and then end task but I have a warning window that opens up saying that doing this will destabilize the system.
By the way to avoid having to upgrade to camera raw 5.7, I tried buying the cs6 upgrade but my order was blocked due to a system error so I have to wait several hours, cancel the order and try again. What is the matter with Adobe? They certainly do not make it easy to work with them.

Why can't we have a real 'finalise'
Hi :)
As we know, all advice about the 'finalise' method is to never
use it, don't override it, pretend it doesn't exist, and if you ever
actually do write code in it, make sure it doesn't throw an exception,
and make sure (can't remember if this is just a 'myth') that it
executes in a very small time period.
Now, i don't have a problem with the requirement for this implementation,
but why can't we have a 'finalise' method that we can implement code
in.
Personally, I would love to have such a method where I can close my
resources, even do other things to conceptually 'end' my objects life.
Consider how ridiculous it would be if an OO language said: "yes,
there is a constructor, but don't write code in it ..., oh, you wan't to
'initialise' your object you say? well, create a pattern or interface or
whatever, implement an 'init' method, and always call that'. Anyone
who had a programming language tell him that would drop it for
a more sensible one.
So come on ... we have a method (even as many as we feel like, assuming
signatures) to 'establish' our object, why are we disabled and disallowed the
option of having one to finalise it (even; not sure of the appropriateness: ones
matching the constructor signatures).

developers, what percentage do you suppose remember to
do that? It would be MUCH better for the VM to take
care of it, destructing/finalizing objects either as
soon as they are no longer strongly reachable (hard to
implement), or at least at SOME point before the app
dies (the GC COULD have been designed to GUARANTEE
running before app termination)What I mean was that you can do something (clean up used connections, streams etc.) but let the GC do the rest. By the way it isn't guaranteed that the GC will run a full garbage collection before you close.
