Why did my 4th generation iPod touch stop working with my docking station?

I have an Altec docking station and my iPod suddenly stopped working on it.  The station comes on and makes a beeping noise like it is connected when I insert the iPod.  However, the music will only come out of the iPod.  The docking station will charge the battery on the iPod, so I assume it isn't broken.

- While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
- However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

My IPodTouch stopped working while connecting to the App Store.  I have a frozen white screen.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 4th generation ipod touch wont work with my iwantit iph10011 speakers?

need help, it wont connect so wont charge or play music through speakers only from the ipod itself?

Does the manufacturer say the dock is compatible with your iPOd model and its iOS?  It would seem that it is nt compatible.  The 4G is particually bad becaue for many docks, the configuration of the iPod in the area of the dock connector prevents a good cnnection.

4th Generation iPod: camera stopped working; I touch the icon, the screen goes blank navy blue. What do I do?

Have you tried closing the Camera app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open the app ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Camera 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

  • Why is my 4th generation ipod touch not charge? I plug it into the computer and the wall and with 2 different usb cables and its not charging. When its plugged in it shows the icon for charging but the battery never increases and it dies once i disconnect

I have a 4th generation Ipod Touch. It has been working for months when yesterday the battery started acting werid. I was driving and it was connected with the usb charger cable to my car stereo when all the sudden my music stopped and the stereo could not recognize my ipod at all. When I got back home, I tried to charge it so it wouldnt die but even while on the charger in the wall the battery continued to die. I charged it over night (the first time I have ever charged it over night) desperately to have battery for a 4 o clock plane flight so I would have entertianment. The ipod died over night while on the charger. When I unplugged it from the usb charging cable I noticed that the icon telling me the ipod needed to be charged came up. So I plugged it back in. The charging thunder bolt symbol popped up next to the very small red strip on the left side of the battery indicating that the ipod had no charge to turn its self on. I tried plugging it in on the computer, the wall ac charger and a stereo system made just for the ipod that also pluggs into the wall. I have used 2 different cables, the result being the same that the ipod held no charge, and it wouldnt charge at all while on the charger, and it would imediately die once i take it off the charger.
I have not idea what has happened ....
    Please help
    THanks!

  • Why wont my 4th generation ipod touch charge using a wall or car adaptor.

I recently received a brand new 8gb 4th generation ipod touch for christmas. It used to work fine and charge fine. Now it can only be charged in a computer. I have tried multiple adapters and charger cables and nothing works. It has nothing wrong with it other then this problem, no screen cracks, and everything else works fine. In comparison, my old 2nd generation ipod touch has a cracked screen and cant play music because the headphone jack is busted, and can still be charged just fine using a wall socket, car, or computer. I have restored it twice now to no avail. It is updated to most recent software as well. Please help me.

If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod then it appears you have a hardware problem. Look carefully at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, broken or cracked plastic pieces.
An appountment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store would be in order.

  • 2nd generation iPod touch not working with docking station. Any solutions?

I've recently purchased a Philips micro music system (DCB2020) and whenever I put the iPod on the dock, it makes the connection sound but won't play music when I select the dock function. I've tried an iPod nano and that works so I don't think it's a problem with the docking station. My iPod touch is 2nd generation and has 4.2.1 software update. Does anyone have any idea how I could make the iPod compatible with the docking station?

    OK, Then sometmes this works:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and bring the dock.

  • IPod Touch Stopped Working With Car Stereo

    Hello Everyone,
I have an iPod Touch 4th generation that was working perfectly with the after market car stereo in my truck  The Stereo is an Alpine CDE-102 and I am using the iPod interface and correct cable.  After upgrading to IOS6 the car stereo fails to reconize the device and "SEARCHING" for a few minutes then gives the response "error - 1".  Has anyone else seen this or know of a solution?  Thanks!

I apologize for posting a bit early.  Found an Alpine manual online and i needed to set the AUX port to off.  They also recommended a reset of the Touch.  After doing these two things it is now working.  Maybe this will help someone else.

I am currently using iTunes 8.0.1. The iPod is charging fine with the cord provided. The iPod works fine, but I would like to load the Apps I purchased and update the podcasts I listen to.

  • Ipod touch stopped working with my wifi

I had iPod Touch (4th Gen) 32Gb, for Christmas and it worked fine on wi-fi network from first day. However got up Monday morning and found it just wont connect to home wi-fi. Tried friends wi-fi next door and same problem. Not knowingly changed any wi-fi settings. Have tried the following:
    Re-set IPod Touch wi-fi settings
    Re-Set Own Home Wi-Fi
    Upgraded firmware on Router
Next door has re-set their wi-fi
On both wi-fi networks non-apple laptops can still connect to both wi-fi networks.
Both homes are on different ISPs - Virgin and Sky
However can connect to work wi-fi network
At home just sits with attempting to connect to wi-fi symbol spinning but never completes. Have even turned off Authentication (WPA Personal) on own wi-fi and still no connection

When you said, you "Re-set IPod Touch wi-fi settings" in your first post does that mean that you used Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings?
What router make/model are you using? Have you tried restarting your router (not reset) by removing power to it for 30 seconds?
If you have no success on either your network or your neighbor's then, unfortunately, your iPod might have developed a hardware problem. You could try using iTunes to restore it to factory setting to see if you can get it functioning again.
If that doesn't work it's probably time to call Apple support.

  • IPod Touch not working with speaker dock

At the moment I've been having problems with my speaker dock. Its a Goodmans clock radio and I've always been able to play my music from my touch through it. Yesterday I tried it but now no music comes from the actual speakers. I assumed it might be a bad connector on my touch but it's still charging perfectly by being in the dock so it can't be that. I also tried it on another speaker dock of a different make in case that was a problem but again there's no sound coming through the speakers just throught the actual ipod. Is there any way I could have accidently changed the settings on my ipod or is anyone else getting this problem ?

I'm having a similar issue with my iPod Touch (4th Generation). I place it on my old Apple dock (bought in 2007) and it can only charge/update. When I connect it to my speaker system through the dock's "Line Out" jack, the iPod plays through its own speakers. Is there anything I can do to correct this? Thank you in advance!

  • My 4th generation iPod touch stopped giving me notifications on all apps. How do I fix this? (The sound is up, I have wifi, all notification settings are on)

Add one more disgruntled user to the list.  First noticed that I couldn't download upgrades on my iPhone.  It would prompt for password as normal, would briefly show "waiting" on the app icon and then just stops with app store still showing update.  True deleting the app and installing from iTunes.  This worked, but iTunes library had old version of app so it still showed an upgrade.  I then deleted the app from the phone and iTunes and that is when I started getting the 11111 error.  I've since discovered that I can download any new content to any of my linked iDevices, but cannot download any type of previously purchased content.  No previously purchased music not on device, no previously purchased uninstalled apps, no installed app upgrades, etc.  ALL show up in purchased content lists, but when you attemp to download it appears to be starting and then simply fails with no errors on the iDevice(s).  I've also tried signing out of my account in settings - store, performing a hard reset and then signing back in, but alas, no success.
C'mon Apple, obviously a problem that is happening to numerous users and it started happening to us all at the exact same time.  You got us iAddicted, now give us our iFix.

  • My ipod touch wont play through my docking station

hiya i have an ipod touch. aout a week ago it stopped working with my docking station. it wont play through the docking station speakers. ive tried two other ipods on the station and they work fine so its clearly a problem with my ipod. the ipod registers that its plugged into a charging source and starts playing music when its plugged in but through its own speakers rather then the docking station. i've tried doing a full factory reset and that didnt work. does anybody have any suggestions?
