Why do I get duplicates in lightroom upon import?

I am getting duplicates in LR even though I don't have any in my orignal files? I am importing from a library on my hard drive. Not everything duplicates itself but at least a third. These are JPEGs, I am using Creative Cloud on a PC running WIndows 7 ultimate.

Are you using Import >> Copy
For images already in a folder on your hard drive use:
Import >> Add

Do you see duplicates if you setup mail on your computer? This will help isolate the problem a bit, to find out if it's just with the iPad.

I am getting low resolution duplicates, 3MB file with a 2Kb duplicate. I have done nothing to cause this. Why is this happening? I am using Elements 6.
edit: I have just noticed that the duplicate files have a name very different than I am used to . The name is a string of 13 numbers.
edit 2: OK, problem solved. For some reason my DroidX phone is deciding to produce thumbnail files for some of my pictures and then the original and the thumbnail is downloaded by Photoshop Elements producing duplicates.

You are not getting duplicates of all your photos in iPhoto - you are looking into the iPhoto library using the finder - you should not use the finder with the iPhoto library - you manage the iPhoto library using iPhoto - any deletions, changes, edits or other modifications to the iPhoto library done with the finder risk corrupting your library database and losing data
iPhoto has a database structure and has at least two versions of each photo in the library (an original and a thumbnail) and if you edit a photo there will be a third version - the modified version -- these are not duplicates and none of them can be safely deleted

Why do I get duplicate pictures when I download from my iPhone to iphoto

Ever since I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite, when I sync my iPhone with my iMac and iPhoto. I get duplicate pictures in my iPhoto. I have to go in and manually delete the duplicates. Does anyone know why? Is there a setting that I can adjust so that I don't get the duplicates?

Have you tried trashing your Final Cut Pro preferences? It is usually the first step when FCP begins to act in unexpected ways.
Download Preference Manager (free) from Digital Rebellion

and use it to trash your preferences - they will be set to default the next time you open FCP.
If that does not remedy the problem, do you have any still images in your timeline that are not RGB, or are greater than 4000 pixels in the widest dimension?
Is your source material in an FCP7 edit friendly codec?

do you share your apple id with your family members? IF so that is the reason why you are seeing each others imessage.
You can share apple id for music and apps, but should have separate id for imessage/icloud/facetime.
To resolve the issue go to all the devices - settings - message - send&receive - remove or uncheck the apple id.

Why do I get duplicate playlists on my iPod nano?

If I add a song to a playlist on my Nano and then sync my iPod with my computer, it creates a duplicate playlist. This seems silly, a duplicate playlist just because I added 1 song. Why do I get duplicate events in iCal when I input them on my iPhone?

Every time I add a new event on my iPhone (as opposed to my iPad or desktop) I get a duplicate entry. This started to occur a few days ago for no apparent reason. This does not happen if I input the event on any other device.
Is there a way to solve this?

This happened to me and finally figured out what the problem is I think. I have MobileMe syncing set up on my iPod Touch and also had set in iTunes to do syncing to the iPod Touch - so one set was coming from MobileMe and another was coming from iTunes on the Mac that the iPod Touch hooks up to.
So I turned off the Syncing in iTunes and now I only have one set of things on the iPod Touch.
I think the reason for this duplication is that even without MobileMe you can keep the Mac and the iPod/iPhone/iPad in sync - the problem seems to be when you do have MobileMe that you probably don't want to have devices be syncing to both MobileMe and to the Mac as well.
To disable the iTunes syncing go to the "Info" tab and deselect the checkboxes for "Sync Address Book Contacts", "Sync iCal Calenders" and "Sync Mail Accounts". Bookmarks can only be synced with MoblieMe since there is no option for this in iTunes. I also have checked the "Sync Notes" checkbox, but not sure if I should have this checked or not. I don't have two duplicate sets of Notes on any device, so for now am leaving this as is.
I think Apple should fix this problem as it seems like a common complaint.

Syncing Notes both over the air and with iTunes can result in duplicate notes appearing in the Notes application. Use the following steps to resolve the issue:
Connect your device and select it in iTunes.
Click the Info pane and deselect the option to Sync Notes.
When prompted, select Delete Notes to remove the duplicates from the device.
If you want to sync notes with iTunes instead of using the over-the-air feature, disable Notes sync for the account using Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars or Settings > iCloud.

Why do i get duplicate notes?

For some reason i have duplicates of my synced notes on my iPhone.
Even my mac only displays 1, but my iPhone can show up to 4 duplicates.
It makes it complicated working out which one to delete from my phone without worrying if I'm going to delete the original on iCloud.
I definitely only have iCloud on for note syncing, my other accounts in mail/contacts/calendar have notes sync off.
Any ideas what i can do as its super messy?

it happens to me sometimes, i think that is a problem of syncing, I cannot tell you exactly what to do but try not to close notes straight after you changed things, give it time to sync.
and also check iCloud.com see if there are duplic there.

Why do I get duplicate events on my ipad calendar

I am using the icloud sync function to coordinate my calendar in outlook and on my ipad and iphone. It works fine in outlook but I get repeated events every time i sync my ipad or phone. I have only got the cloud calendar selected on all three devices. It also does not carry events across to outlook that I create on the ipad. Thanks.

There are lots of features that Apple doesn't include in iOS devices but that they leave available as things third party developers can add on. None of the included apps are really much more than basic. The fact that this feature is not available without installing additional software doesn't seem to have stopped many business people from using the phone. So, it's apparently not completely unnaccetable.

Why am I getting duplicate e-mails?

When opening e-mails on my iPhone, I find that I frequently see duplicate e-mails. This is not the case when I check mail on my iMac. It primarily happens when I receive e-mails from companies, not the individuals in my address book. I know it is not due to sender error, since I just sent myself an e-mail from work, and it shows up twice. Anyone know a fix for this?

This very same problem began for me today.
I had not seen this happen, but today, every new mail item from the AOL account appears in duplicate.
None of my other mail accounts do that -- just AOL. I had Entourage check the same AOL acount and it only grabbed one copy of each message, so this seems to be an iPhone-AOL thing.
Beyond that, I haven't figured out the fix, but I wanted to let you know that there's at least two of us with duplicate messages.

Why do i get duplicate chapters in IDVD when i drag in my Qt movie file

Hi, can someone please help!!!!
I completed a project in FCP 7 and added chapter markers then exported the project to Quick Time Movie and included chapter markers and made the movie sel contained as I need to transfer it to other computers at a later date, I have done this many times before without any issues. On dragging the movie file into IDVD and checking things were ok I hit the burn DVD button. IDVD went through the whole process upto multiplexing then came up with an error message. On checking this out on the internet it appeared that i had placed some of the chapter markers on some of the transition points and advice from several forums suggested this would cause the problem and the fix was to go back into the original FCP project timeline and delete all the chapter markers and reset them further in on each clip which i did. I then exported the project again to a QT movie file and dragged into IDVD and on checking the various assests under the Scenes section it showed the first chapter had been duplicated! I now had two chapters called 'The Beginning' . Using the inspector tab i cut one of the chapters and hit the burn button and again despite going through the whole process it came up with a Multiplexing error!!!
Apologies for such a long question but not sure how else to explain. Any advice would be welcome.

The exclamation mark is telling you that iPhoto has broken the file path/link to the original file. Assuming you're using iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
