Why do I have a thin blue line running down the screen?

There is a thin blue line running vertically down my imac screen a little to the right of the centre. It disappeared for a while - i think after I tapped a certain key - but then re-appeared and will not go away. What is it? How do I get rid of it? Mark

Sounds like a problem with the display. Contact your local Apple Store or AASP and make an appointment to have the display looked at. > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ

I have a thin blue line running down my 24" Cinema display, how can I remove it? or is it a fault.

It is a fault and the only way to fix it is to have the screen replaced.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
They are probably dead pixels or a signal of damaged GPU. If you can, connect an external display and see if the issue appears here.
In both cases, I suggest you to take it to an Apple Store or reseller. It doesn't look as a software issue, and your display or GPU have to be replaced

  • I have a thin horizontal line running across my screen about 1/4 of the way from the bottom of the monitor. Why is it there and how do I get rid of it?

There is a thin horizontal line running across the width of my screen about 1/4 of the way from the bottom. This line, along with an occasional vertical line about a 1/3 of the way from the right side of my monitor, started appearing about 7 days ago. Usually the line would disappear after a restart but now it seems intent on staying. Does anyone know what is going on and how can I resolve this?

  • My ipod has two thin black lines running across the screen. What causes this, and is there a fix?

Suddenly, my Classic ipod got two narrow, black lines runnings horizontally across the screen.  Will thes eventually go away or is the screen damaged?
    Thanks!

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • I have a thick blue line running across my screen when click onto my apps how do I fix

    How to fix

Sounds like a broken screen.  If you've tried Apple's basic troubleshooting steps (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) and the problem persists, bring the phone to Apple.

  • First day... Lines running down the screen.

    Sigh.
So I get my BRAND NEW, 2.0 GHz Black Macbook today, and I'm wondering if something is wrong with it.
In looking at my screen, it appears that there are lines panning downwards, like it is progressive scanning. (They're a lighter color, and don't appear to be normal)
The lines are horizontal, and run from top to bottom and at the right angle it's obvious that it is going on.
Just wondering if I should take this in and it is repairable, or if others have experienced this problem or what...
    Man this *****.

If you have a new machine (within 14 days) and you're having a problem, you should be able to have Apple replace it for you. I have heard of other people experiencing similar problems (albeit only a few)... but if you feel your machine is clearly behaving in a way it should not, there is no reason not to bring it back to Apple and have it replaced.

  • Squiggly line running down my screen

I've just noticed a random squiggly line* running down the screen on the bottom half center of my iMac (Intel Core i5 27 inch) screen. I don't believe I'd noticed it before, had this iMac for a few months now. It's very light, more noticeable when the screen happens to be dark but it's definitely there. It's not ON the screen, almost seems like its pressed between two plates if the screen were made of two plates. Tried different screen savers and desktops, it's most definetely there. Haven't had this iMac 6 months, am I still under warranty? And what with the squiggly line??? Anyone? Thank You! MG
*imagine a particularly intoxicated snail traveling from point-a to point-b and the line it would leave behind. THATS what it looks like. And no, a nail hasn't been anywhere near my iMac

"Squiggly line"? Only an Apple Tech can tell you. You have a one-year warranty. If you bought Apple Care, you have longer coverage. In any event, call Apple, tell them what you see, and when you bought the computer. It's really a matter for them to resolve.

  • Thin blue line on Iphone 5 screen

Was wondering if anybody has any ideas as to why I would have a very thin blue line, running about three quarters of the way up my screen, about half a cm from the left. It's only noticable when the screen has a white background. Otherwise the phone is in perfect working order and is just over a year old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, SuePop.

If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.
If the issue persists, there are recommendations at the end of the article as well:

Backup your files to a external hard drive and disconnect.
Call Apple and make a warranty call, then take it to the nearest Apple Store etc.
You can run these things and it might clear your issue or give further informaiton
    Perform a hardware check
