Why do I loose sharpness when I export out of Aperture?

My images look almost blurred once exported out of Aperture 3.0.  !  I am finding in my reading that others have been having this problem for years!  Has Apple not fixed this yet?  I may have to go to Photoshop, but really don't want to!!!

That doesn't sound right at all. My exports looks fine. I wonder if it could be some kind of glitch or something...
Just out of curiosity, what do your export preferences look like? What quality setting do you have for jpegs, and what dpi for external editor file format? How about the dpi in your export presets you've been using? How about your RAW Fine Tuning sharpness sliders? (although that would affect how your images appear in Aperture, although it is subtle)
Aperture has limited (but effective) sharpening options, and by default rendering the images are softer than what you might be used to if you used to process your RAW images with ACR (Photoshop, Lightroom). But I was able to match the default ACR rendering (in terms of sharpness, I mean) with Aperture by maxing out the sharpness sliders in RAW Fine Tuning and applying a Sharpen Edges adjustment with only mildly aggressive sharpening.
Oh, that reminds me, which sharpness adjustment are you using? Sharpen is from the previous versions of Aperture, and is included for legacy/compatibility purposes with images that were processed in Aperture 1 & 2. Sharpen Edges is much more advanced and is generally recommended over the other.

  • Why am I loosing images when i export from InDesign to a pdf?

ON every page of my in design file i have a picture and a logo, when i export this file, I loose the logo on every page but still have all the photos. Can anyone help?

With no text insertion active you can hit the W key to toggle Preview mode, or use the button on the bottom of the toolbox.
it is a white logo on a black back ground
That's what I suspected. This is a fairly common problem with Illustrator art that started out as Black and was converted to White, and needs to be fixed in Illustrator. Most likely the Black was set to overprint and that carried through to the white on conversion. ID is smart enough to remove the overprint attribute when you do this, but Illy is not.
Right-click on the logo, then choose Edit Original... Does it open in Illustrator? (IF not, waht format is it?) If it does, select anything white and open the Attributes panel, uncheck the Overprint boxes.
White, or [Paper] in ID, is not really a color, but is the absence of color. The way it works is that it knocks out any color behind it, exposing the paper. Overprint means that the current color will print on top of the exisiting color without removing it, and so you are telling ID to put nothing on top of the color, so that's what you see.

  • Why are my photos desaturated when I export out of Lightroom 5 and editing with VSCO Film filters?

I have been excited working with VSCO Film presets, however when I apply them and go to export out of Lightroom 5 on my Windows 8 computer, my images are previewing very desaturated and muted in color. Some images are below. I thought it was a Color SPace issue, but when exported as sRGB as well as in its original space of Adobe RGB1998 it is still desaturated. Any help?? In Lightroom the colors are right, but my preview application is different.
    Thank you!

    Hi ssprengel,
    Here's some clarification:
Here's a screenshot of my raw image in lightroom without any presets:
Here is a screenshot of my raw image with the presets (the way I want it to look upon export):
Here is a of the jpeg exported out of LR:
(on my screen the jpg looks like what it should when I attach it, but I know once I post this it will not look like it. That's something I noticed when I posted my question previously)
I took you suggestion and re-imported the sRGB exported JPEG and it looks like how it is supposed to be with the correct saturation. Here's a screenshot of the jpeg reimported.
Here is a screenshot comparing the LR5 preview to the Photos preview on Windows 8. The LR5 (left) is more saturated, the correct way I want it:
I cannot use Windows Photo Viewer because this is how my photos look like in it:
Hope this all makes sense! Thank you so much in advance!

  • When I export photos from Aperture, the pixel dimensions are halved thus losing data.  I have set the export preferences to export at original size, to no avail.  This happens even if I just drag to the desktop and then back, or if I export into my iphoto

When I export photos from Aperture to desktop or iphoto I lose pixels.  The pixel dimensions are halved, despite setting the export preference to export at original size.  Anyone know why or how to correct this?

Dragging an Image from Aperture exports the Preview.  Preview parameters are set on the Previews tab of Aperture preferences.
Are you seeing the same results when you export using one of the export commands?
Is so, confirm that the settings in the selected Image Export Preset ("Aperture➞Presets➞Image Export") truly represent those in the Image Export Preset's name.

  • Why does the gradient disappear when I export my document to PDF?

I have used gradient tool on simple black lines to make them fade out as they reach the edge of the document. When I export the document to PDF the lines are simply black, no gradient whatsoever. I'm a beginner at this. I'm putting together something for a wedding, and really need to fix this pronto! HELP!

Version of InDesign? OS? Print or Export to PDF and settings used?
What sort of gradient did you apply? Some screen shots of the line in ID and the PDF would help.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Why do I loose effects when I flatten layers?

I've been working on a poster composed of several groups of layers and probably around a total of 80 layers. When I flatten the image, I loose all of my layer effects, things like bevel and emboss on text get flattened out. What is happening here and how do I fix it?

thanks, that is what is happening. If I view the effects where the poster fits the screen, the relative effects look much differently than when I view at 100%.
So my follow-up question is why the effects look dramatically different based on magnification? I realize that they cannot be precise at lower magnification, but it is not even close to being representative between low and full magnification. If a "flattened" version of the lower magnification can be accurate enough, why can't an unflattened version at the same magnification look the same?

  • Loosing quality when import-export file

I am just wondering, if I loose some quality when I - lets say- an Apple Pro Res 422 HQ 1080p video clip, I import to FCP, do some modifications, export to Pro Res 422 HQ again, import it to Photoshop, do some more modifications> export to the same, but find, I need to work in FCP again, import it, do some modification and export it again to Pro Res 422 HQ. Would there be a visible quality loss?
    Dorian

    Try this.
Make a copy of a clip.
Take the copy and edit/color/alter the images using all the operations you would normally.
Then, look at the original clip vs the altered clip on external monitoring devices (including scopes) to decide if you have an issue.
    Good luck.

  • Photo loosing sharpness when passing it to Photoshop and viewing it in LR again

    Hi
I passed a JPG from LR to Photoshop CC, did a little change and saved it. Then I realized, that the PSD file has lost some sharpness compared to the original JPG.
It doesn't matter if I pass it with the option "with lightroom changes" or not. It happens in both cases that use a copy.
    That's really weird and frustrating.
But, I found out that this only the case if I view the photo in LR   (In Phothoshop and Irfanview all version of the photo looks the same regarding the sharpness)
A very ugly bug in LR 5.7?
    edit:
The difference get smaller after viewing both photos in 1:1. But still, there is a difference viewable when switching between exactly the same images (just passed it for test purpose to Photoshop as copy, and saved it as JPG, no editing in PS).
    Regards

First of all I should say that I was able to download the file, but initially I got an error that said it was not found.  It was probably just an incompatibility of the dropfiles site and my default browser download plug-in and it finally worked just using the standard browser download function.  Looking at the contents of the photo, itself, there are no LR adjustments that have been saved to the JPG, only a few metadata changes such as adding the photo location as being in Hawaii.
Anyway, there are several issues that are being mixed together:
    1)  When a JPG is opened and resaved it will be slightly different due to JPG compression being a lossy format and that the color workspace in PS is slightly different than in LR so when PS converts the colors from its 16-bit workspace to 8-bits the output pixels won't be exactly the same as the input pixels even if there were no substantive changes in PS, just an open and resave.
In this 4:1 screenshot the PS photo does have more variation in colors between adjacent rows of pixels than the original in LR:
    2)  This variation in colors can lead to an apparent difference in sharpness in LR when a resampled-smaller zoom level is used--in this case Fill with a small LR window size:
3a)  The PS resampling for display and the LR resampling for display use different algorithms due to LR having to be as quick as possible, so what you see at those zoom levels doesn't accurately reflect the actual image sharpness, only resampling algorithm accuracy and differences.
3b)  In LR there is a warning badge in the Detail panel when using zoom less than 100%.  Unfortunately the warning disappears when I press a key to do a screen capture of it:
So to summarize, pixels don't remain unchanged across an Open/Save cycle when you're using the lossy JPG format -- a reason to use TIFs, and less than 100%/1:1 zoom levels don't show sharpening accurately in any program and differences between resampling algorithms in different programs result in differences in the inaccuracy of the resampled result.  In other words, with less than 100%/1:1 zoom PS's inaccuracy is different than LR's inaccuracy so neither should be used to judge sharpness, and you should use 100%/1:1 zoom or higher.

  • Why does iDVD suddenly quit when I export an iMovie or when I double click iDVD icon??

I have been trying to open iDVD. It comes up for about a second and then dissapears.. This also happens when I am trying to export an iMovie to iDVD. I have a Mac OSX.6.8

Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 -try to  launch IDVD again.

  • Why are my images way smaller when exporting out of Aperture?

I import my photos, work on them...it's going well...but, once I export them out to put them on a external harddrive, the photos are going from approx. 3 mb at 300dpi...to about 700kb-1mb at 300 dpi.
I'm exporting them as jpeg at full size.
    I didn't crop them...I can't figure it out.
    Anyone has that issue?
    Thanks!
    IMAC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

In Aperture on the menu bar go to Aperture >> Presets >> Image Export >> and check/adjust the image quality for your different presets or create new ones.
    Hope that helps.
