Why do I need a degree from M.I.T. to change my passwords in Thunderbird?

With all the brouhaha about NSA and Heartbleed, and with all the recent problems with hacked emails, one would think the developers at Thunderbird would figure out an easier way for us to change our passwords on a regular basis. I use the Master password, but I also have several email addresses under the master account, each with different passwords. I have spent the better part of 3 hours just looking for a way to make these changes. It now appears that the only thing i can do is delete all my Thunderbird files from both computers, re-download, and set up all the accounts again. If I have to do that, it just makes more sense to change email programs.

Thank you - but that doesn't work. I already found where the passwords were stored in the way you outline. But when I try to log on again, no dialog box comes up for me to enter the new passwords. I log out of Thunderbird, I clear the cache, I enter the Master Password, but then it just hangs there. No option but to close it again and try again.
When I went online to the Mozilla help forum, I found something that indicated I need to go into the User folder, find the Library folder, then find the Thunderbird folder called Profile. I also did that and it's like trying to read hieroglyphics. I found the Profile folder and looked at it, but nowhere did I see a file that indicated it was a password folder. I literally started this project more than 4 hours ago now.
REALLY Mozilla? Is there a reason you hide the password change mechanism even from your users? This is frustrating as hell! How about a little dialog box in the preferences folder that says "change password" ??

    In Firefox all browser windows and tabs use the same cookies that will identify you to the server.
    If you open a different account then existing cookies are send to the server and the server sees that you already signed on (authenticated).

    An account's balance should not have been affected by changing your password. You've tried logging out and back into your account on your phone and/or computer's iTunes and seeing if it then shows, and checked your account's purchase history e.g. you didn't have any auto-renewing subscriptions or pre-orders due that might have taken the money : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store ?

    I can't access my email from my iPhone 3GS.
    This is an iPhone problem, not an ISP problem.
    I know this because I can access my email from both my laptop and webmail.
    This is occurring here at home via my WiFi network and also a few kilometres away via 3G.
    This morning I had to change the password on my Bigpond Cable internet email account.
    Whenever I try to access email from my phone I receive the following error:
    "Cannot Get Mail"
    "The user name or password for "**** *****" is incorrect."
    There are two buttons, one captioned Settings the other OK.
    Both the user name and password are correct. This happened perhaps 4 or 5 times in the 6+ years I was with Internode and has happened a couple of times in the 20 months that I've been on Bigpond Cable.
    I have re-entered my email account and connection details multiple times to no avail.
    I have tried deleting the account, then rebooting my phone and creating a new account, but that didn't work.
    I tried deleting the account, turning the phone completely off, waiting one minute and then after turning it back on, creating a new account but that didn't work.
    I know I am entering the correct settings because before I deleted the account the first time, I took a series of screen captures from the Settings App and I also have the settings from MS Outlook to refer to.
    Its as though somewhere in the phone, the old email password is being stored and being used instead of the new one, but I don't know where that could be except in the Settings app, "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and that is where I am entering the new password.
    The only solutions to this problem I found by searching are those that I have already tried and haven't worked for me.
    Reverting to the old password is not an option. My account was compromised by Malware, hence the password change and a complete scan of my laptop.
    Any ideas?

    The problem was resolved by erasing the entire contents of my phone and then restoring it, setting it up as a new phone.

    If the password for your Apple ID works at id.apple.com > Manage Apple ID, then it's likely that the Apple ID the device wants you use is not the same as the Apple ID you are using.
    Exactly what screen are you at on your iPhone?  It sounds like it is in Activation Lock.

  • Why can't I retrieve mail from iCloud.  Have tried changing password, same result.

    I can't get mail from my .me address.  This applies to the iCloud website, my macMini, iBook, and iPad.  Began yesterday.  Keep sending reports to Apple, but to no avail.

    1.  Make sure you are using the same icloud account for devise and icloud.com
    2.  Go into setting, mail and make sure the password is correct.  I have had that happen and I keep emails on the server and would just delete the account and add it back with the correct password.  See if that works.  This has worked for me in the past.

    This did not work for me.  My old email account for iCloud still pops up on my screen every time I open my macbook.  I've deleted it, reset it, every thing I can think of and it still shows up.  I think six months of this is more than enough time to wait.
