Why Do I Now Need Lightroom??

After ordering CS3 last night and going through the clips on the new capabilities of CS3 along with Adobe Bridge..I am trying to find an answer as to why I have Lightroom. If you have a look at the features of Lightroom you will find a lot/most/if not all, of the new features in Adobe Bridge. Anyone else feel this way? BTW I am on a pc.

Total workflow efficiency and speed is what counts for me--not does app X do operation Y a bit faster or slower than app Z--becasue I process a lot of images on a daily basis.
I have timed LR versus Bridge plus Iview and IDimager--same develop operations, same file operations, start to finish for 40 mixed images--from jpgs to 4 RAW formats and including a number of 70-150 meg tiff scans. For MY workflow. Bridge CS3 + a DAM with advanced features and watched folders is 60% faster than LR--and Bridge is still in beta.
When Library gets fine tuned that may not be the case. But right now I miss nothing in LR Develop when using Bridge CS3 with ACR4, but I do miss features of Bridge ACR4 when I use LR at this time.
But, I am a PC user :) So you MAC guys should be kind :)

This is an extra layer of security used to stop those who could otherwise get access to your account. It's nothing new, considering everyone under the sun is doing that. Adding a piece to the puzzle gives Verizon that much more ability to stop people from doing nefarious things with the account, should they manage to get your info (eg: Spyware on a computer).
Most use of pins override the need for password or allow the reset of passwords. I am anti-pin as pins are usually only 4 digits long.

I'm just starting to learn Java and Creator 2.

Well actually I'm not new to programming, I finished a computer class and mainly did HTML in Dreamweaver since 1999. And I don't consider myself a serious developer I guess here you're right. You will be amazed what my current PIII 450Mhz with 400MB ram can run on Linux. It load's JSC2EA on XP SP2 with another 35 processes running in 2:27 mins. I manily need for learning, tutorials etc. By the time I go for a production i'll buy myself a new pc.
the comp hardware costs really is about 0 compared to what a software developers sallary is..
I'm not a "Software developer" and you should remember that not everybody live in the USA. I'm 24 y/old and the truth is i'm in the bottom of the tire now and the days of working 1/2 hour a day and making $1.5k from advertising are gone.

Maybe. Time will tell. I could have bought myself a new pc, I just decided to invest the money in something more important.
You should also be aware of that the generall sweet spot for client performance has recently moved from 1 to 2gb of ram.
this is something you should understand...
I sold pc's on my last job, I do understand it :-)
And really, arguing about these tiny amounts of ram for a developer machine is silly.

Thank you for your comment you actually answered my question. I will be able to run The new release of JSC2 on my pc for a learning purpose and tutorials for the time being.
It may be a good idea to show on the minimum system requirements, The actual MINIMUM of ram required to run the program, lets say for learning and recommended minimum for production work. Otherwise in my opinion 1GIG requirement may deter a lot of people "planning to replace comp" of touching JSC2 in the first place.

I Alway use my iPad to watch tv and until yesterday it didn't need to have the sound switch unmuted. Why do I now need to have sound active for the sound to play on a video?

Your computer may not supply audio via the Mini DisplayPort. Take a look at this article for your compute and find out if it supplies audio.

Do I really need Lightroom?

I don’t have a problem, but I have questions regarding the need for Lightroom. I have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom3. I use Photoshop, Camera Raw and Bridge. So far, I’ve used Lightroom3 in learning mode, and I’m not convinced it offers advantages over using Photoshop CS5/Camera Raw/Bridge. Here’s why.
I’ve not delved into Lightroom3’s Slideshow, Print or Web features, but Library appears to be a photographers file-control system that takes some control away from a user. Why should I care about a file-control system that establishes a catalog that I must ensure stays in order. Can’t I do that myself using Bridge? In Bridge, as in Lightroom, I have filters, Collections, Metadata, Keywording, syncing capabilities—as far as I can tell, everything I think Lightroom offers without giving control to a software cataloging system. Is Lightroom that much easier or more beneficial in other ways that I should use its Library module for file control instead of Bridge? As for the Development module, it replicates Camera Raw but perhaps missing one or two features that available in Camera Raw.
The bottom line for me is this. Am I wasting my time trying to develop proficiency in Lightroom when I’m not convinced it offers benefits over Camera Raw and Bridge—which, again, I use in conjunction with Photoshop. If I switched to Lightroom, I suppose it would be in place of Camera Raw and Bridge but still in conjunction with Photoshop. I’d appreciate any opinions/advice.

What I see as the main thing with Lightroom is that it's an entirely photographic workflow. That may sound like an academic point, but these subtle shifts in emphasis can have a surprisingly large effect on the final result. If the image is crap, nothing in Lightroom can save it. In Photoshop you can just turn it into something different if you have the time. As such, Lightroom inspires discipline and improved photographic skills. We can all use a dose of that.

No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.

Why does Sun Studio need NetBeans?

Why does Sun Studio need a NetBeans installation for running successfully? If I am not too wrong, I believe Sun Studio has the same relation to the NetBeans project as Star Office has to OpenOffice.org?
Now, coming to the solution. I am using Sun Studio 12 on Solaris:

As is apparent, I have a NetBeans 6.5 Beta build.

The realtionship from SunStudio to NetBEans is more than a line from A to B.
Ideally SunStudio releases would track NetBeans releases.
However, NetBeans evolves at a rather fast pace. At the same time SunStudio
also contains compilers which have their own products to coordinate with ...
OS releases, new SPARC chips and Sun system releases.
These releases never coincide so SunStudio tends to lag in it's dependencies
on NetBeans and as a result ships with it's own copy.
We used to actually build our own, sometimes tweaked, NetBeans for SunStudio.
Weve made some progress in that we just pick released NetBeans bits and re-ship them.
We're working on the ability for SunStudio to use NetBeanses which are already
installed.
To make older SunStudios use newer NetBeans is a tougher proposition but
we're dedicating grey cells to that matter as well.
If you really want a NB 6.5 based SunStudio wait a bit. We'll be releasing
SunStudio SX based on NB 6.5 shortly.

With iCloud Photos why do we still need Photo Stream

After installing Yosemite I set up iCloud photos on my iMac, phones and iPads and it works fine. Why do I still need or have selections for Photo Stream? Wouldn't that go away?

I had exported all of my photos from iPhoto and then used the Photos app on iCloud.com to upload them. At this time, only JPEGs are able to be uploaded via iCloud.com. I had a few PNGs in my collection, which I email to myself and using one of my iCloud Photo Library enabled devices saved the photo which uploads it to iCloud Photo Library that way.
Some decisions have to be made on how you export from iPhoto/Aperture and thus which photo versions you'll be copying to iCloud Photo Library. Uploading photos to iCloud Photo Library using iCloud.com does not upload a version that contains non-destructive edits. For example, let's say using iPhoto you did a crop and changed contrast. You then export the Current version of the photo and upload the file to iCloud.com. You cannot then use your iPhone and select Revert to original to get rid of that crop and contrast change you performed in iPhoto. The file you uploaded with the edits WAS the original in this case. You can make additional edits to the photo on your iPhone or iPad and Revert those changes however.
Now, if you like the way your photos currently are in your library and those are the versions you want to work with going forward, then in iPhoto choose Export and change Kind to Current. Then, upload those.
If you want to upload clean, unedited, start from scratch photos, then change Kind to Original when you export from iPhoto and upload those.
The other option is to just wait until the Photos app comes out for the Mac which will more than likely be able to upload all of the nondestructive edits done in iPhoto. In my case, I chose to upload unedited originals. Hope this helps. Sorry for rambling.

It may be possible that you are trying to activate the Creative Cloud version? What error message are you getting?
You may need to uninstall the existing version and then download the Perpetual License version from one of the links below, and install.
