Why do podcasts I add appear in music library but not in podcasts ?
I personally find iTunes to be deeply counter-intuitive and confusing, so this maybe a simple user error. I'm adding podcasts from a hard disk. They were downloaded some time ago, under linux, from BBC Radio using the 'getiplayer' app. They exist as mp3 files on my harddisk, within a 'My Music' folder (my mistake).
When I add music files to iTunes from 'My Music' the podcasts are addded to the music library. When I delete them from that library, sending the files to trash, then add them from the original source to the Podcasts library, they appear back in the Music library but are not listed under Podcasts
What am I doing wrong?
There have always, well for the past few years, written installers that just create a mess. All installed applications should appear in Finder, Applications. Not all of those will appear in Launchpad. When you encounter one that does not appear in the correct way, all you can do is manually move things around so it is consistent with the way apps should work.

I have tried several ways to transfer my itunes library and Playlists to a new computer. I get the music library but not the playlists. Can you advise?
2nd > I purchased 21 new tunes yesterday on the new computer> worked great> but when I made a disc to transfer the playlist. I get the music but no album info just 1,2,3,etc. So I have signup both computers to share thinking that would work. But no to that also.
Please advise.

ITunes - iTunes U podcasts insist on appearing in music library
Hi,
I hope this is roughly speaking the right place to ask this.
As the subject says I have downloaded a lot of podcasts from iTunes U and rather than being in the podcast library they have appeared inthe music library.
Downloading via my iPod touch they appear as regular podcasts so the issue is in iTunes.
Is there a way of forcing these podcasts be act like proper podcasts.
I don't mind too much if I have to hack a script together, but I would prefer something involving less effort.
Thx,
Rob...
Examples are:
iTunes U -> Stanford -> Science & Technology -> Mathmatics & Computer Science
iTunes U -> Little Kids Rock -> Guitar Lessons - Videosglun wrote:
After downloaded a number of podcasts from iTunes U, they appear in the music library of my computer (but yes too it's better if they go under podcasts...)
but I can't find them in the library or anywhere in my iPod.
All my iTunes U downloads happen to be videos (perhaps they all are - I'm not a frequent user) and I found them under *Video Playlists.* From the *Main Menu,* look under *Videos/Video Playlists,* but do not look under Movies, they are not there!
Note that if Videos is not already shown on your Main Menu, you can select it to show up by going to *(from Main Menu)/Settings/Main Menu.*
By the way - the iTunes U videos cannot be found with the Search facility on my 160GB iPod Calssic. Bit odd really!

I received my new Macbook Pro today and have attempted to sync my iphone 4s with it, unfortunately like a bit of a moron I've ended up wiping all my music on my iphone.
I have then gone into Itunes and re-downloaded all my previous purchases (music tracks). They have all appeared in my music library but all but 4 are greyed out, will not play and will not allow me to do anything with them!
Can anyone help me, help the Mac newby sort his life out! I'd be lost without them and more to the point would have lost a fortune in music I'd paid for if I couldn't get them back!!
Cheers,

Why do some Apps(programs) appear in my dock, but not in my launch pad?
I recently downloaded Open Office and Adobe Photo Shop 12 . Photo shop appears in both my dock and launch pad. However Appace Open Office just appears in my dock, but not my launch pad, and also the open office little disk or cd reader icon (white 3d rectangle with image of black slot in front) appears on the right side of my screen. I can't eject it because I get a popup that says it is being used by "Open Office" and I have to quit the application to eject it. My question is if I quit the application using "Command" Q and then eject "Open Office" will I loose open office and have to downlad it again?
I think I answere my question.
I clicked on the Open Office Icon in my dock, had it go to "Finder" then ejected the "Open Office" disck reader icon and it went away from my screen.
I then went to "Finder" and opened it up and Lo and Behold "Open Office" disappeared from there too. Boy that sure is crappy.
So I downloaded it again.
Is there anyway to clean up the desktop so I don't have those silly images hanging around? There have always, well for the past few years, written installers that just create a mess. Artwork in Itunes music library but not on my Ipod
Only got my Ipod at the weekend so don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I've enabled the option for album artwork and click on get artwork for each album I have transferred into my library. The artwork appears in my library but on my Ipod many of the albums that have the artwork in the library aren't appearing on my Ipod.
Anyone know why this is?It is possible that you have not selected the option to have your iPod show album artwork. Here is how to check:
Plug your iPod into your computer
Click on you iPod when it appears under DEVICES on the left of the iTunes screen
Your iPod should appear on the screen under a tab named Summary. Click on the tab titled Music
There is a check box on the very bottom of the list on the Music tab called "Display album artwork on your iPod" If this is not checked, then check it.
Then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen, then click Sync, also in the lower right of the screen
This should fix the problem and upload the album artwork onto your iPod -
I can access my music library, but Itunes Store is not opening. I am just getting a white screen. Any suggestions?
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that didn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
If that doesn't help, try here > iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
No data is lost due to a reset. -
Podcasts appear in music library as well as podcast list
So, I don't know why, but sometimes, and now constantly, my iTunes and iPod get the podcasts appearing in the library, with the actuacl name of the song. How can I stop this?
Okay.
In iTunes 5, when you click on library, you have some 'radio' buttons across the top, just above the column titles . . . they are: All, Music, Audiobooks, Podcasts, Videos, Booklets . . .
When "All" is selected, you get it all. What you need to do is select "Music" and you'll see JUST your music. IMHO, it's much easier to see what you want with this method of keeping the library. -
1) Hi please help when i download anything i have to shut down my phone as it doesnt appear and then i lose all my library and podcasts and so have to re sync with itunes to get it all back and download it via computer is this fixable or do i need to go to apple store and replace phone.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Then restart the iPhone.

I have not been able to add songs into my iPhone after switching computers. The mp3 format of these current songs are in the old laptop and i am unabe to retrieve them. In the new laptop, i am unable to add songs to my device, only to the iTunes library.
Best route here is to focus initially solely on the iTunes Library. Once it has all the Songs that you want, turn off iTunes Match, sign out of iTunes Store and restart the computer from cold.
Moving to the iPhone would suggest a restore and fresh link to the library post the following steps.
1. Sign in to iTunes Store;
2. Turn on iTunes Match - allow 3-step process to run to completion;
3. Make secure backup of library;
4. Force iPhone in to restore mode - hold down 'power on/off' with 'home key' for 10 seconds
5. Attach iPhone via USB to computer and follow 'restore' instructions in iTunes
6. Once complete synchronise with library as required
At this stage all required Songs should be on the iPhone - post iPhone back-up a good point to fully enable iTunes Match on the iPhone if required. -
I want to add more songs, but I cannot figure out how to sync my iPod to actually transfer my mp3s. I had done it before, which is how I have most of my songs, but I don't know what I can do without totally erasing everyhing and starting over... Which I don't want to do, because I have a new computer and no old files. I'll have to do that if worst comes to worst, I guess. Hoping there's some other way around it.
You can only synce an iPod to one iTunes Library/one computer. However, you can manage music among different computer . see:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
If you want to transfer non-iTunes purchased music from an iPod to a computer other than the one you synced the music from you need to use a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

How can I sync my entire music library, but not my playlist?
I usually purchase everything directly from my ipod and I use the "purchased" playlist alot to keep track of recent songs. I found that when I sync it deletes it. Is there any way to sync the library without changing the playlists on my ipod?
Just what is deleted when you sync?
Try just transfering purchases and not syncing

Podcast pdf show notes appearing in Music library
I subscribe to a podcast which posts both the mp3 audio file as well as pdf show notes. iTunes is confusing these pdf files as digital album booklets, and the pdfs are appearing in the music library, as well as in the podcasts library. The podcast mp3 audio files are ok, they do not appear in the music library, but stay in the podcasts library.
I have noticed this behavious since iTunes 8. I am currently running iTunes 9.
Anyone has any advise on how to correct this?I had a bunch of pdf files and other iTunesU files showing up in my Music list. The only way I could get this cleared up was to delete them and download again - the "KIND" category for some of these is new to iTunes and so with no classification, they will show up.
You might be able to edit the info on these and add or change KIND values so they move to the right view.

Podcasts in Itunes appear under Music Genre Podcasts
Does anyone know how to get podcasts downloaded/subscribed to using iTunes to appear on their iPod under PODCASTS instead of appearing under Music > Genre > Podcasts ?
Thanks
Andy
HP Laptop Windows XP ProThey should appear in both places. Do you have a "Podcasts" entry under "Music" on the iPod? If not, make sure your synching options include Podcast updating in iTunes ("iPod Options" while the iPod is visible to iTunes).
