Why do the connected devices to the router have the smae IPV6 address?

Hi,
Now I meet the issue
The operation steps on router (WRVS4400N):
1.Set the IP mode as Dual-stack IP and then save
2.Disable the IPV4 DHCP server
3.Use other deivces to connect the router.
The connected devices have the same IP address(2005:123:456:789::1),I am confused, why is it?
please help.
Thanks!

Hello,
The WRVS4400N is in fact assigning IPv6 addresses to all the devices connected to it, but the WRVS4400N does not show a table with the IPv6 addresses assigned to each device connected, it only shows the IPv4 addresses and the respective MAC address for each device. The IPv6 of the WRVS4400N is an aggregetable global unicast IPv6  address (See the image below)
If you go to Setup > LAN you will see that you cannot modify the prefix of the IPv6 address, all you can modify is the postifx and prefix length field (As you can see in the image below).
For more information about these fields and general IPv6 configuration,  please refer to the article IPv6 Configuration on WRVS4400N Wireless-N  Gigabit Security Routers
The only way you have to see the IPv6 address assigned to each device connected to the WRVS4400N is to check on each device the IPv6 address assigned. The WRVS4400N does not provide this information. You can see from the below picture the IPv6 address assigned to my computer. As you can see, the WRVS4400N assign the the computer the prefix 2002:c0a8::/6. Then you can see the actual IPv6 address which is 2002:c0a8:0:b182:e6a:9b0e:cdcf.
As you can see, the initial part (The prefix) remains the same, since these are the first 64 bits of the whole IPv6 address. The other 64 bits of the IPv6 address represents the interface ID, that is, the device that is connected to the WRVS4400N.
I hope you find this information helpful. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

  • Why my wifi connection is unstable? I have an ipad 4 wi-fi and my net connection only works very close to my router!

My wifi connection only works well if i am really close to my router. My notebook connection runs great either close or far from the router! What can i do about that? Thank you!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Why does the correct return address not show up on outgoing messages?

    Hello,
    Specs:
    Windows NT
    iPlanet Messaging Server 5.1
    iPlanet Directory Server 4.13
One user recently went through an account change (spam reasons).
    old uid: bob
    old email: [email protected]
    new uid: bsmith
    new email: [email protected]
The problem is, that during testing, any email sent from the new account is arriving as having both the <Return-path> and <From> fields with the old email address.
Keep in mind that this is not a client-specific problem as everything has been changed correctly (outlook) If an email goes from "Clients computer" >> "3rd party smtp server" >> "Hotmail" or the like, it shows up as having the correct return address.
But the pickle I'm in, is that if an email goes from "Clients computer" >> "3rd party smtp server" >> "Our Server" , it shows up as having the OLD return address. - same thing if messages are sent internally (same server) through the webmail interface. The messaging server is somehow rewriting the email field when any message goes through it.
What makes this a super-pickle is that this is a NEW account., not just a 'change' of the old one. The old account has been deleted, and the command 'imadmin user purge' doesn't find it, nor is there any reference to the old 'bob@' address in the ldif file except for an address book entry or two (other users have added 'bob' into their address book)
Any help is greatly appreciated in advance. Sorry for the long description, but now all the bases I've covered are known.
    Sincerely,
    Josh

    Jay,
I only mentioned SIMS 4.0 because I jumped directly from that to MS 6.0p1, and because what my customers wanted to do worked on SIMS and doesn't on MS6.
To complicate things more, my customer has multiple domains, but not all employees have e-mail addresses in both domains. For example, Joe is [email protected], Jane is [email protected], and John wants mail sent to either [email protected] or [email protected] to come to him.
I dealt with this by setting up abc & xyz as separate domains, and created a mailing list in xyz.com named "john" with an external member of [email protected] While this works fine, when I add an alias to that mailing list of "[email protected]" and John tries to send a message with "[email protected]" in the From, it is rewritten to [email protected] as that is his primary e-mail address.
In looking at the LDAP entries of mailing lists that are not working as I'd like, I see that the aliases are specified as mailAlternateAddress attributes. Are you saying that if I change these to MailEquivalentAddress attributes that they will then show up in the From unchanged?
Oh, and one more possible factor - they are sending mail using SMTP AUTH as they are roving users. Since the mail server knows that the authenticated user is truly [email protected], is that why his From of [email protected] gets nuked?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Why can't i access iCloud now i have changed my email address?

My email was hacked nand blocked so had to change my email address.. So i had to change my apple id as well. However, now i have done that it won't let me access my icloud as it keeps telling me to enter a password for my OLD email address, and it won't let me change it to my new one. I have some VERY important notes backed up onto icloud that I need, but now can't get them. (One was the security key for my iMac..) Is there any way i can get all my documents etc/iCloud back??

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.

    Hi,
WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none received"... Help
I have tried network diagnostics which doesnt help... The only other ting is, when I woke the computer up it said tat another device was using my IP... My wife had plugged her phone into the computer to charge etc but even when i turn wifi off on the phone there is no change... also in settings on the phone the IP address is different...

The answer to your question is - neither!
Your PC should to configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and to obtain DNS server IP addresses automatically, from the Airport Express. This is the way Windows (and Macs for that matter) are configued by default, and that is the way most people have their computers set up. If you manually configured your PC's IP address to be the same as your wife's Mac, it certainly explains why your PC is not able to access the internet.

  • Why does my Airport Express say "self assigned IP address"?  No IP address for the ethernet, and it is not connecting to my cable router any longer...

Why does my Airport Express say "self assigned IP address"?  No IP address for the ethernet, and it is not connecting to my cable router any longer...

Some cable providers.....like mine, a well known company......seem to take anywhere from a few moments to sometimes up to 30 minutes to allow their equipment back at the cable company to fully reset and issue a new fresh connection.
So, it would not hurt to leave things powered down for 15-20 minutes or more when you perform the reset that John Galt suggests.

No problem, it is still much the same advice but you'll need to use third party tools to extract the data.

  • E3000 as an access point with an E3200 as the primary router not showing all connected devices

I recently rewired my home with cat 6. All network and telephone comes in to the basement. While most devices in the home were converted to LAN connections a few remain WiFi connected.  The connections are as follows:
    Cable modem -> E3200 ->High Speed Switch <--> E3000.
I purchased the E3200 to be the primary router. I'm using both 5.0 and 2.4 ghz connections. I set up my (existing) E3000 as an access point (AP) according to these instructions. I used the LAN-LAN setup so that all devices would be on the same network. Both E3200 and E3000 are at the latest firmware level. Both use the  same SSIDs, one each for 5ghz connection and a second for 2.4 ghz connection. Almost everything is working but there are a few nagging issues.
    1) A smart  phone connected wirelessly to the AP shows as a LAN connection when viewing the E3200 DHCP client list
    2) I set up a DHCP reservation for my network attached printer on the E3200.  When it connects via the AP it is not assigned the predefined IP address
    3) I can see the network attached printer on the E3000 MAC filter list but I can't see it when viewing DHCP clients or MAC wireless clients from the E3200 even though the printer is attached and working correctly.
I can understand the reasons for issue 1 but it seems that a client attached to a wireless AP should also show as wireless to the main router.

Well, let me know what IP addressess you have assigned to the network devices? Second if you remove the switch from the network (between E3200 and E3000) does the issue still persist... Once powercycle the whole network and then check whether it happens or not.

  • I just installed Time Capsule on my Mac and it works good.  It connected to my devices, like, Apple TV, Laptop and Ipad2.  I just noticed lately that the Wi-Fi on the Ipad keeps on connecting to my former router, 2wire109.  My set up was based on Apple's.

I just installed Time Machine as a router and as a back up and all my gadgets like, Mac, Apple TV, IPad and Laptop connected right away after setting up the TC.  I followed Apple's instructions like, connecting the Ethernet cable from the old router to the TC's Ethernet WAN.  Now, this is the problem, I just found out lately that my IPad kept on connecting to my old router, the 2wire109.  Anybody?  I need your help please to correct the problem.  I am actually not famililiar with these stuffs yet.  Thank you

  • Why is the AEBS bottlenecking my ReadyNAS devices leading to bad packets and TCP Retransmits?

Bad Packets Unrecovered TCP Retransmits TCP Retransmits w ReadyNAS NV NV+ and Airport Extreme Base Station 5th Generation
I got an Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS), 5th generation this past November to bring my entire network up to gigE standards and extend my wireless range a bit. I have really liked the AEBS 5th Gen overall since I got it 3 months ago. It was easy to setup and update and things have been noticeably faster. I can also easily take my netbook, laptop, and iPad out to my shop some 80 feet away from my AEBS and still surf rather well wirelessly too. I couldn't do this even with my previous D-Link wireless-n setup.
In December I picked up an old ReadyNAS NV+ to go along with my old ReadyNAS NV. When I finally started to setup the new network for my business in February, I noticed in the logs that I was getting a large numbers of bad packets, TCP retransmits, and unrecovered TCP retransmits. Previously, I had never had errors of any sort with any older network setups using linksys, dlink and netgear routers during the last 6 years.
Eventually cables, switches, and routers can go bad which results in the errors I have been getting so I went through the "Troubleshoot My Performance Problem/Check for Network Errors" section of the link below to try and figure out what was causing my problem.
    My Initial Setup:
    Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS):
    - 1 incoming Cat5e from Motorola Surfboard 6120,
    - 2 Cat5e connections to my wifes work network with her business computer and VOIP phone.
    - 1 Cat 5e interconnecting the AEBS to my wired network on the HP Procurve Switch.
The AEBS manages addresses via DHCP on my wired network for all of my devices on the HP Procurve 14008G Switch:
    - 1 to NV
    - 1 NV+
    - 1 MacMini 2010
    - 1 MacMini 2005
    - 1 networked Epson R-3000 printer
    1. Simple things first. Since I have always made all my own Cat 5e cable I figured I'd better get some better(?) cabling strait away. I went ordered new Cat 6 and Cat 6a cables to connect the NV, NV+, and my main Mac to the switch and connect the switch to the AEBS. The errors kept coming.
    2. Then I separately connected each NAS unit directly to my computer by setting up the static IP on my computer first. Once I reconnected each ReadyNAS with the computer directly they defaulted to a static IP.  Neither NAS had errors.
    3. Errors were coming from either a bad Procurve 1400 switch or a bad AEBS. I hooked everything directly to my Airport Extreme and got lots of errors.
    4. I decided to check the switch also. I altered each ReadyNAS's default static IP to one of my choosing individually. Then I hooked both ReadyNAS units to my HP Procurve 1400 switch. I hooked the switch directly to my computer and got no errors from either NAS. I continue to get no errors the next day.
    5. When I first ran my tests I had Jumbo Frames turned Off. Currently, Jumbo Frames are On and there are still no errors and seems to be no slowness either.
    Conclusion:
The Airport Extreme is the bottleneck causing the errors in my network.
Perhaps there is something I can alter which will rid me of the errors, but this type of error makes the AE seem to be pretty shoddy. A newer state-of-the-art router should not be bottlenecking my rather archaic slow network devices. Apparently, the 4th Gen AEBS's couldn't do Jumbo Frames, but this current model is supposed to, but I see no setting for changing the MTU.
    Questions:
What could be causing the bottleneck?
Do I have a bad router?
How could I analyze this problem?
Has anyone else had similar issues and if so how were they resolved?
    Current Setup:
All of my computers and NAS devices are hooked to my Procurve Switch each with its own Static IP.
The switch is working flawlessly with no Errors.
The network printer is now wireless and  connected via the AEBS.
I am using wireless-n to connect to internet via the AEBS on my main machine.
I am sharing the internet connection with the other Mac Mini on the switch and any other machine I plug into the switch (not ideal).
    Problem is:
I am not a systems administrator and don't really want to tinker with setting up Static IP's for the machines I hook and unhook to the switch.
I want the AEBS to manage addresses via DHCP so everything accessing my router will mindlessly be able to access all things on my network.
Can the AEBS be made to not produce errors or do I just have a lemon.

    Hi Bob,
That's the strange thing. When I had both GHz channels working on one SSID, once in a while my iMAC would pick the 5 GHz channel (44 seems the best for me). I always use channel 1 for 2.4 GHz because I get the fastest speeds with it.
When the iMac would pick 5 GHz, the slowdown was very obvious. As I explained in my (long) first post, I immediately felt the difference. Now the $50K question - since the 5 GHz channel at that point was stronger than the 2.4 GHz one, why wasn't the speed faster? Why was it so slow compared to 2.4 GHz? That's what rattling my brain. If the 5 GHz signal's strong enough to get picked by my iMac, then why isn't there a commensurate speed increase? There must be something else going on here besides signal strength. If the 5 GHz spec says that I must have full strength to get 5 GHz speeds, then that makes sense. But I think it doesn't, that's why I believe I have a configuration problem somewhere, or a faulty AEBS.
I might add that my firmware's up-to-date in the AEBS and AX, and Airport Utility too.
I think heading to 4Runner's camp - even with high signal strength (and I would consider 3 of 4 bars high), the 5 GHz speeds aren't showing themselves.
    Here's some snap's of my AEBX's setup:
I think my configuration's fine, although I've tried so many different options, I'm a little confused, but I know that changing the Multicast Rate doesn't have any noticeable effect on the speed. I also have "Use Wide Channels" checked, but as I said, the 5 GHz band is awfully slow for using both channels. I have set "N" only, so no "G" clients to slow it down.
    Mind boggling!

  • The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Ian

It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Why is the app not available for my device?

I've no problem using BT wifi on my device (Nook BNTV400) so why is the app not available for that device? It's not like the nook is proprietory, everything else I've tried to find in the play store works fine.
Is the apk available for download direct from bt?

if you can connect to btwifi without the app then I wouldn't bother trying to find the apk file
if you have an android smartphone then you can download the app and get the apk file to sideload on to your nook
