Why does Firefox search for Files, Folders and Sizes during the install?

Every time I install an upgrade to Firefox is scans for File Size, Files and Folders... Why?

I reset Firefox a second time and now everything seems to be working fine, as you described: "The Forward slash (/) worked for quick find and the Apostrophe (') worked for Quick Find Links Only."

Why does FireFox open as a very small box in the top l/h corner and i have to resize it every time this only occurs on the initial opening up of F/Fx after boot-up

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window. 
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

It is something that should be in the options tab , and I want to know why it isn't. I am totally frustrated with firefox and getting ready to switch.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

When i start firefox, it automatically does a search for I-play and displays an icon for I-play when firefox completes its loading. I dont want the i-play search to be done, but dont know how to get rid of it.

I downloaded and installed the I-play program from their website, but then decided i didnt want it, and uninstalled it through windows 7 program and features. The I-play search issue began at the same time I installed the program, but didnt go away when i uninstalled the program

Why does Firefox try to launch Adobe and/or Quicktime when I close Firefox? What is it loading into those programs?

When I shut down Firefox, it tries to start Either Adobe Reader, Quicktime, or both. It has done this ever since the first time I installed an used version 4. The applications do not actually launch, as in a window opening, but they are then present as a process in the system, and I have to close them from the Task Manager. It usually launches just one, but, if it's trying to launch one, and I use Task Manager to close it, it then launches the other. If I hurry and stop that one, Firefox reports that it messed up, and wants me to keep using the Internet for its own purposes that have nothing to do with what I was using the Internet for. This never happened under previous versions of Firefox. Do I need to revert to a previous version? I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security, and it shows I have no malware or the like on my computer, which could cause this. So, why is Firefox trying to do things I did not ask it to, and then expecting me to let it phone home to tell about it when I stop it. By the way, out of good practice, I often close down my Internet connection before closing Firefox, (in case I do get something like a Key Logger loaded, to prevent it from sending its final report before the cache is cleared), but this also happens when I have not yet closed my Internet connection before closing Firefox, so I do not think that is the issue, nor should it be. Your question below about when it happens does not provide for the answer "Every time Firefox Closes", so I picked the closest such answer.

This can be caused by clearing the cookies via [[Clear Recent History]]. 
* Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
You can try to exclude the cookies to test that. 
You can let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the cookies when you close Firefox then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and possibly for each cookie (?) and that can add extra time if there are a lot of cookies to remove and also can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.

Why does Firefox 4 for mac crash when attempting to manage add-ons?

Downloaded firefox 4 for mac yesterday. Working fine until I started adding add-ons/extensions. Since then, any attempt to manage add-ons or extensions crashes Firefox and requires a force quit.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.sqlite, extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar to do a compatibility check.

OS9 searchs for file/Folders on 10.5

We have 2 machines that run OS9 in the dept.
I migrated our archived files from a 10.4 to a 10.5 machine.
When searching for a job folder now from an OS9 machine I get:
UNABLE TO SEARCH THE VOLUME BECAUSE UNEXPECTED ERRORS OCCURRED."
So what's the cure to this?
Seems that almost every kind of search is now broken with 10.5.

Generally it is not a good idea to access a new machine from an older operating system as the file systems differ. Better to use one of the search programs here in Mac OS X:

Once you want certain data in Mac OS 9, migrate it over to a drive formatted for Mac OS 9 using the Mac OS X Finder. Classic is not supported by 10.5 nor is it supported by Intel Macs though you can dual boot on a few PowerPC machines from 10.5 to 9. The Mac Pro does not support such dual booting. If you can tell us what machine and vintage of machine you have, we can tell you more what your options are.

Search for a word and return all the lines (row) from the text file..

I need a help on how to search a string from the text file and returns all the lines (rows) where the searched string are found. I have included the code, it finds the indexof the string but it does not return the entire line. I would appreciate your any help.

Hi, you can use servlet class and use this method to get the whole line of searched string. You can override the HttpServlet to treat that class as servlet.

I have Malwarebytes and it is blocking Firefox several times a day and from many many ip addresses. Does Firefox try several ip addresses when searching for updates?

Every 30 minutes is as often Safari can update RSS articles.
AFAIK, it's not possible to set it up for a specific time of day.
You might check Safari > Safari Extensions. Might be something under Productivity under Categories.

Why does Firefox download .docx files as octet-stream?

When I try to open or download files that have the .docx extension FireFox 5.0.1 says they are octet-stream. Internet Explorer 8 opens and downloads the files correctly. Do I need to switch browsers or is there a easy "fix?"

As what kind of files does Firefox save the .docx files?
Firefox will always offer to save files that are send as application/octet-stream

Why does Firefox not open my windows and tabs from last time until I have tried starting 3 or 4 times?

I have this problem with opening Firefox:
My Startup options are set to "When Firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time"
However, each time I start Firefox, by clicking the icon in the Taskbar, it opens with a single blank tab.
I repeat this using "Open New Window" and when I have up to 3 windows, all with single blank tabs open, I close them all. Once more I use "Open New Window" which only then opens with my windows and tabs from last time.
Naturally, this induces initial panic each time, because I dread the thought of losing all my current tabs.
What is going on here?
How can I fix it?

This started happening to me with the upgrade to v30. Previously, new windows did the proper thing of showing previous tabs/windows.
I have history on, not in private mode, and have cleared cache.

If I have only 2 of 5 computors authorized to play content, why does it ask for my ID and password and still not allow them to be played ?

My PC crashed and I purchased "Media Widget" from Bootstrap Developement to restore the contents of my ipod to my new itunes account. After downloading the contents of my ipod to itunes (thru MW) I encountered a problem playing several of my albums (including the ones I purchased from the itunes store) In those cases it asked me for my ID and password, and when provided, it still would not play some of the albums.

Why does Firefox no longer launch when I double-click the icon?

I found an article on the support site that suggested creating a new profile, but the run command did not launch profile manager. I tried uninstall/reinstall, but it does not change behavior. When I click the icon, I get the hourglass for a moment, and then nothing. I'm on WinXP. On 10-14-11, I thought I saw a pop-up menu saying Firefox was updating (I did not initiate it, nor was I presented with a confirm pop-up), but it was very brief, so I'm not sure. After that day, Firefox would no longer launch. I've not made any system changes, or installed any programs.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
