  • Why does my Mac ask for my password when I try to make a change on my external hard drive with Time Machine?

I recently formatted the hard drive to do a fresh install of Mavericks on my Macbook Pro Retina. I then formatted my Western Digital 2 TB External Hard Drive for Time Machine. I then began storing others files and folders on the external hard drive along side the TIme Machine Backup folder. Everytime I added a folder or changed a foler name it asked for my password.
This has never happened to me before using any other OSX.
I apologize if this has been resolved before, I'm new to the communities and have yet to find a solution.

It is not a good idea to be storing other Stuff on your Time Machine drive. You may need an additional separate hard drive for those things.
Once you tell Time Machine to use a Drive, Time Machine owns the Drive. You (as a User) do not have permission to put things there. If you insist, it will do it, but wants your Admin password to do it.

  • Why does iClod keep asking for my password?

Why does iCloud keep asking for a password? I don't remember asking for this and if I try to turn it off it threatens to delete my calendars off my mac but keep them on some else's server!

Try going to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and sing back in (your data will download back to your Mac).  See if that stops the prompts for the password.

  • Why does it keep asking for my password ?

Why does it keep asking for my password when i open the APP STORE ? Theres no updates and i aint downloading anything. Any help ? Thanks.

It shouldn't really ask you anything. One way to possibly forestall this from happening again would be to register and enter your own ID and password. The system won't ask you for anything else, since it has all the user info it needs.
When is it asking you questions? When the App Store opens? When you click on hyperlinks to documents?

  • Why does iOS repeatedly ask for my password when submitting an App Store review?

I tap Write a Review, it asks for my password.
I write my review and submit, it asks for my password. And again. And again. And again.
Once before, and four times in a row to submit it. Why?
My passwords are generated for me, and I change them regularly, so sometimes I get them wrong while typing them in. If I've taken the time to go write a review and then I get my password wrong one of the four times I'm asked for it, I just get an error saying my password was incorrect and the whole review I've written ust disappears and I'm back on the app overview; I have to go write it all over again and then go through the gauntlet of repeated password entry once again...
This has been happening on iOS 6, and still on iOS 7. (This is the App Store app in iOS on an iPhone, just to be clear; not the Mac App Store or the iTunes Store on OS X. I haven't tried either of those, so I may or may not have the same problem there.)

    Entered incorrectly?
Can go to Appleid.Apple.com and select Manage Apple ID - try to sign in, if you are unable to then what is being entered is incorrect.
Reset Password is the next option.
If you are able to sign in then first on your Computer in iTunes go to Store and Select Sign Out - Then Sign back in.
iOS device - Settings - iTunes & App Store - View Apple ID - Sign out / Sign in
That should work for you - however when downloading/purchasing Apps you will most always be prompted to sign in.
    And to the comment
[Yesterday I had problems on my desktop but the laptop worked fine.]
Something was being entered incorrectly, passwords do not effect OS's.
Hope the information with Appleid.apple.com helps you out.

  • Why does iTunes keep asking for my password when I want to listen to my music on my iPhone?

When I want to listen to music on my iPhone, iTunes keeps asking for my password.  I am not purchasing anything.  It started today.  Why is that?

I've been having the same problem on my iPad and iPhone. I talked to Apple customer service this morning. They had me do the following on both devices in the Settings:
    * Sign out of iTunes & App Store
    * Sign out of FaceTime
    * Sign out of Game Center
    * Delete iCloud account
They also had me restore my iPad due to some glitchy behavior in the Music app.
Things seemed to me fixed for a few hours until I went into the iTunes Store app on my iPad and added a movie to my Wish List. When I went back to the Music app, the dreaded "Sign In to iTunes Store" popup started showing up again on both devices. Suspicious!
So, I cleared out my Wish List in both the iTunes Store and App Store. I've been poking at the Music app on both my iPhone and iPad since then I haven't seen that popup once since then. I'm not going to declare victory yet since it's only been an hour or two, but I thought that this was worth mentioning.

  • HT202159 My purchased download get to around 25% download then mac asks for user password and download fails and I have to start again

I am currently downloading a purchased application from apple store, the application starts downloading then at some stage through the download the Mac asks for my user password to make changes, once I enter the password the download just disappears and I need to start again. I have tried using a different user and the same thing happens. I have also noticed that in purchases the application says to install but in the application page it says it is downloaded. I have spoken with apple support and they seem to be stunned and not sure what is going on! Help does anyone else have any suggestions, its an expensive app and I hope apple is prepared to refund if I cant download it.

When you're having problems with multiple user accounts, it can be an indication that the startup disk needs repairing or there's not enough free space on the disk to install apps.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click:  Verify Disk
If the repairs are necessary, instructions here >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
For disk space. Look at the bottom of the Disk Utility window. You'll see Capacity and Available
Make sure there's at least 15% free space.

  • Why is my username asking for a password now since the update?

Since completing the update on my Mac desktop it now asks when I use my username for a password. There are only 2 users on my computer. It doesn't ask for a password when my wife uses her username. It only asks for a password on my username. I do know the password, but I don't want this feature on. How do I disable this feature. I am new to having a MAC computer so help would be great.

  • WHY IS MY MAC ASKING FOR A KEYCHAIN?!

I have not been so irritated in a long time, everytime i try to go online a small screen pops up and asks me for my "login" keychain password ... earlier today i had a problem going online so i called apple they helped me reset my password .... i had asked the lady what was a keychain she said dont worry bout it its nothing .... its obviously something if every 10 seconds i have to type it in ... the help menu on the mac tells me that pw for the keychain should be the same as my pw for my login ... well its not i keep getting it wrong ... now i cant unlock anything or download things because the pw is incorrect. I dont even know what to ask ... just tell me what to do about this please.

Keychain is an application that encrypts and stores passwords. When you login to your Mac the login password will unlock the other stored passwords so that you will Not have to type them all in every time. The reason it is asking for your password repeatedly is because the password that it has saved is incorrect.
There is more than one way to fix this problem but the easiest is probably to delete this file: "Users/Home/Library/Keychains/login.keychain" After deleting this file log out then login again.

  • I am unable to connect my ipad to the internet via wifi, when asked for my password I get message "unable toI ge join network" however my laptop is able to access the internet using similar procedures and in the same physical location.?

I am unable to connect my IPad to the internet via WiFi, when asked for a password then attempt to join I get the messag "unable to join the network" however  if I use my laptop in  the same physical locationand using similar procedures I am able to conect.?

What router are you using? make/model/version
What security type are you using? If it is WEP then symbolic (non hex) keys may be converted to hex in different ways by different operating systems. Is your laptop a Windows PC?
If you are using WEP then drop it and move to WPA2. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be hacked in seconds).

  • Portege M400: Why am I not asked for a password at boot?

    Hi,
I have a Portege M400 and I used the Toshiba Security Assist software to set up a BIOS boot password as well as an HDD protection password. This software, as well as the actual BIOS (Esc+F1 at boot) both show that the password I set is registered/recognized.
However, I am not actually asked for either of those passwords when I boot the computer!!!
I have a dual-boot system with the original WinXP for Tablet PC on one of the partitions, and an Ubuntu Feisty on another. My boot loader is GRUB but I don't understand why that should affect the behaviour of the BIOS that should happen before it calls the boot loader...
Can someone help me with this? It would be really important for me to protect my BIOS and the hard drive.
    Thanks in advance,
    dsokus

    1. Check your security settings with the Toshiba password utilty. Are these configured correctly?
    2. Did you set the user or the supervisor password? If you only set the supervisor password you are not asked for the password.
    3. Try to set the HDD and User pw in the initial bios setup (press ESC when prowering on).
