Why does my Mac shut down when using Safari?

Every once in a while (randomly) my mac will reboot due to an error even when I only have the Safari Application open. How can I stop my mac from doing this. I have the 2011 macbook pro 13 inch with the latest OS (Mountain Lion). Everything is up to date but why does it keep shutting down?

Hi Sebaz, first try repairing permissions. Go to Applications-->Utilities-->select Disk Utility. Select your drive then select the First Aid button then  at the bottom right click Verify Disk and after it verifies your drive click on Verify Disk Permissions on the left. If there any errors click on Repair Disk Permission. Reboot your machine and test your Safari to see if the issue comes back.

  • Why does my macbook shut down when the lid is closed?

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2012) running 10.9.1
Last week out of the blue, the Macbook started shutting down whenever I close the lid.
When I open the lid, the logon screen appears (as if it's been asleep as normal) but almost immediately reboots itself.
Has anyone else got the same issue? Any idea how to resolve?
    Thanks

If after you open the lid you do get the login screen, almost immediately, but then it restarts your system is not shutting down when you close the lid. It is going into a sleep state but then crashes when trying to come out of that sleep state. There are quite a few posts on this problem and it seems to be caused by the system going into the Deep Sleep state also known as the hibernate mode. That is where the contents of the RAM is written to the hard drive and the system suspends supplying power to the RAM chips so the system uses even less power then in regular sleep mode.
That is only supposed to happen after the system has been in the regular sleep mode for an extended period of time.
To check the state of the huiberbnate mode open terminal and type in, or copy and paste, this command.
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
To check the state of all power management settings use the command.
    pmset -g

  • IMac shuts down when using Safari 2.0.4

My iMac shuts down when I visit certain websites such as Pogo or video sites. Took it to the Apple store and of course the problem wouldn't replicate there. They kept it to check out the scripts and logs to see if they could find a problem - without success; although they did suggest my house is haunted. Brought it home and it quit again.
We thought perhaps we were getting interference from other wireless devices and unplugged our cordless phone which worked for a day. The computer always turns back on so its more of an annoyance than a real problem, but I'm baffled.
It also happened once when I was downloading from the iTunes store, but is most prevalent with Safari.
We have wireless internet connected via ethernet to an Airport Express.
    Any ideas? Thanks.
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hi Barry -
Yes I do live near a ghost town (kinda) - Virginia City, NV. And I did tell any unwanted visitors to leave.
Actually, in the last year, they have replaced the Super drive, power supply, inverter and logic board. The only reason I'm not thinking power issues is that it only happens when I'm in Safari or iTunes. I would use Firefox except I've got java issues with that. I can (and do) use the machine for other things all day long without problems. I can use Safari all day long as long as I'm not playing on Pogo or certain video sites. Maybe Pogo is haunted?
It also doesn't happen on my husband's iMac on the other side of the house. Is there something that could cause enough interference to actually make the machine shut down? Oh, the antennae for the satellite TV and internet are on the roof directly above me, if that would have anything to do with it.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why does my macbook shut down, when I put it in sleep?

It has been happening for couple of times already, and I am wondering if there is any serious going on and I have to pay the support team to fix this? Is there anything specific that I should have done that make it turn off when it is in sleep?
The story is when it is in sleep the light is showing as normal of turning on and off. but the moment I open the mac, it totally shuts down and if i close the mac again, the light is ON all the time. In order to use to mac I have to use the Turn on/off power to turn it on again. Nothing else works... I have tries typing, click on return, click on the mouse... nothing happens!!!!!
By the way, this is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8

The usual steps for resolving this type of issue are
    - Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    - Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    - Calibrate the battery: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490

  • Why does my computer shut down when i try to connect to the internet?

I have recently found that when i'm trying to connect to the internet, a box is appearing something like This device does not exist, please check your settings and try again. My settings are fine, my wires are connected and i cant find any reason why the connection wouldn't work. I have shut down my computer and this hasn't helped when i have restarted it and now, the screen has gone dark with an scary box saying the computer has to restart itself. No reason is given (or at least i can't remember if there was a reason). My computer is going a bit slower now and is making a noise like an application is opening or the computer is doing something.
Can anyone help???? I have only had my i baby for a few months. I do download stuff all the time and i have been known to leave my internet connection on for a day at a time. Could this have caused the problem?

  • Why does my WindowsXP shut down when myiPod Touch 2nd gen 8gb is connected?

I originally posted this as a topic, but not sure now if that was the right way to go about finding a solution...I'm new here, pardon me.
    So,
Everything was operating fine for the first day I was using my new iPod Touch. on the second day, I think I might have disconnected my iPod too soon? The iPod itself is currently operating normally, as is my PC however, every time I connect it to my PC/iTunes, the PC shuts down, then goes to the HP blue screen- the one that gives the "Esc, F1 and F8" options.
I restart and Windows says it has recovered from a serious error and wants to send the report.
PC runs ok until re-connection w/Ipod. Weird, eh? Can someone please help me?

Usually, this indicates a driver conflict or USB port conflict. See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502
If you have anything else connected via USB try disconnecting it and syncing.

  • Why does my iMovie shut down when trying to import videos

When I am trying to import video to my library my iMovie closes and I get a "iMovie quit unexpectedly". How can I fix this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Why does Yahoo! Mail freeze when using Safari?

For over a month now everytime I try to use Yahoo Mail in the Safari browser, the entire broswer freezes and I am forced to quit and reload all other pages I was viewing. Yahoo Mail works fine on every other browser, which is why I believe it is a Safari issue. Normally, I have no issues with Safari, but with Yahoo Mail it is nothing but problems. The page will load just fine, and maybe allow you to open a couple emails, but if you try to do more than that it will freeze, give you the spinning rainbow, and all other tabs open will go blank. All the software on my macbook are up-to-date.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click: Details
Type   yahoo   in the search field then click Remove All / Done.
Back to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
And one more time, go to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select the top 5 buttons, click Reset.
Restart your Mac. Try Yahoo mail.
If you continue to have problems with Yahoo mail via Safari, there's an alternative. You can setup your Yahoo account in the pre installed Mac Mail application.
Launch Mail, either from your Dock or the Applications folder.
From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Click + under the Accounts list on the left.
Type in your name, your Yahoo user name and password then click Create.
Now instead of having to deal with web based email via a browser, just click your Mac Mail icon in your Dock. When you have unread mail available you'll see a red badge Mail icon in the Dock.
