Why does my MBP think it's 10:20?

I am reliably informed that the current time in England is 9:20 pm
My MBP however, believes it to be 10:20 pm
I know what you're all thinking, check your date and time settings, you've set it to the wrong region. But my date and time is synched with Apple Europe (time.euro.apple.com) and the time zone is set to London - England BST (British summer time)
My iBook on the other hand which, has the exact same settings, has the correct time.
So why.. is my MBP a hour ahead?

I should mention, although I see it having little bearing.. that the iBook is running panther whereas the MBP, is running tiger

  • Why does my iPhone think I am in California?

People, Could someone shed a little light here?
I, along with many of you had to suffer the frustration and upset at how yesterday was handled. I finally got sorted out latelast night and have been enjoying the App store ever since. Everything is fine with my phone and have synced a number of times since 2.0.
But, why does my iphone think I am in California, right now (12:06 GMT) my phone is reading 04:06 Sat 12th. I am not in California, I am just outside London, and it is not some dark hour in the middle of the night, there is much light outside...
I do however have the time in time setting for London, this is, of course correct, but when I sync with itunes the time does not update? Is Apple trying to control time now? Anyone with an idea of what to do short of trying a full restore?
    Cheers Liam

Liam, that is a strange problem.... may be a silly question... have you checked in your iphone preferences, then under General, the Date and Time?
Do you have it set to Set Automatically? if not, do so... if you do, turn it off and see what city/time zone is set for you.
I'm not sure if this data is setup from the computer or your cell network. Most cell phone date and times are setup over the air.
    hope this helps.

  • Why does my MBP take so long to boot?

My MacBook (2006, Core Duo, 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 10.6, 5400rpm drive) cold-boots to the desktop in 33 seconds.
My MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, Core 2 Duo, 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 10.7, 7200rpm drive) cold-boots to the login screen in 1 minute 17 seconds.
    My work MacBook Pro (Mid 2010, Dual-core i7, 2.66GHz, 8GB RAM, 10.7, 7200rpm drive) cold-boots to the login screen in 1 minute 6 seconds.
All of these are timed with nothing physically connected to the computers. Why does my oldest, slowest laptop boot in half the time of my newest fastest one? How do I bring the MacBook Pro boot times down?

Well it's a combination of the bloated beast of 10.7, it's auto-restore of programs and having more RAM for the Power On Test System to check on the second two machines that differs from the first.
You would think the faster hard drive would help on the second two machines in boot times, but that's not the case as it takes longer for 10.7 to get setup.
Plus Lion was just thrown out there like Vista was, half baked and tested little, 10.8 is the one they are tweaking to be better I can only assume.
Only thing I can advise is to drop all machines to 10.6, or make due reducing the restore at boot programs in 10.7.
You could do a Disk Utility > Zero Erase and fresh install of 10.7 on the last two machines, install apps next then files, keep the boot drive below 50% filled, that's the best you can do really for 10.7, do the same for 10.6 and it will be fast.

  • Why does iTunes repeatedly think I'm logging in with my Apple ID from a new computer?

To start, I figure I should give a little background... I have three computers authorized for use: Home PC, home laptop and work laptop (all Windows).  I also have my iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini authorized as devices for use.  I do 90% of my iTunes purchasing from the work laptop.  I'll launch iTunes, attempt to purchase a song and go through the usual of logging in with my Apple ID... no sweat.  Unfortunately, sometimes I'll get a subsequent screen stating:
"Because this is your first time making a purchase from this computer, you must verify your identity by answering the following security questions..."
The thing is, just two days prior, I purchased songs from iTunes on this laptop!  I know that answering the questions shouldn't be an issue, but unfortunately, I tend to forget the answers (Sorry, I work for an Internet-based company, and we use A LOT of passwords and set up a bunch of security questions).
I'm just curious why iTunes thinks I'm using a "new" computer... Does it also use the IP address from which my requests are coming, for validation? (Apple ID Login/Password isn't enough security?)  As I go between WiFi to an ethernet-connected docking station intermittently at the office, I can see how IP addresses might be rotated.  If this is the case, will this impact the "five system authorization maximum" (i.e., is iTunes adding new systems to my "authorized list" each time this happens)?
In a time of constant hacking and Internet security weaknesses, I figure I should be happy this is in place... I gues I'm just looking for some answers.
    Thanks,
    - Vern

    Hey there Vernholio,
It sounds like you are repeatedly being asked to authorize your computer even though you have made many purchases oh it from the iTunes Store. Generally this issue is caused by permissions or restrictions on the user account. I have 2 articles to recommend for you here. The first is:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
    and
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
And to answer your question about whether or not the IP address changing might count against your authorization limit, no it will not. iTunes uses the computers installed hardware and software to keep track of that. Check out this info about authorization and deauthorization:
Remember to deauthorize your computer before you sell it, give it away, or get your computer serviced. Also, make sure you deauthorize your computer before you upgrade your RAM, hard disk or other system components, or reinstall Windows. If you do not deauthorize your computer before you upgrade these components, one computer may use multiple authorizations.

  • Why does my computer think I'm in a different country

For some reason when I click USE MY LOCATION on some websites, my computer thinks I'm either in Germany or BC.
I have never taken my computer out of Canada and have not even been to either place. This is quite frustrating for searches and when I'm looking to find a store around me. It even does it on Maps, why is this happening?
ANY sort of help would be awesome.

  • Why does the Hub think I live in Hampshire - I liv...

OK - here's a good one. I recently bought a used HH3 to replace a slightly flaky HH2 - all went well with setup (without the installation CD) and everything works fine ..... except when I check the weather or use Google Maps on my HTC Wildfire phone or use Google Maps on my PC. When I do, I am told I am in Southampton (where the HH3 used to "live"). I have reset everything I can (including a "hard reset" of the HH3), renamed the HH and fiddled for hours with the settings. I have gone back to my old HH2 and that too now has me incorrectly located in Hampshire. I have talked to BT tech Support who were extremely helpful but unable to find a solution.  This is only the equivalent of moving house and taking their HHs with them? Does anyone on here have an answer?

It more likely to be a cookie stored on your PC and on your phone.
Try clearing out the cookies on your Internet browser that runs on your PC, then try again.
Google maps on the Android also stores your location, but that is easily corrected by updating your location. It then uses a combination of mobile phone mast position, and any nearby wireless networks, to determine your location. You can also turn on GPS for a more accurate fix.
Of course the problem with the wireless network location is that Google would have seen the MAC address of your home hubs wireless, in Southampton, so that is why it thinks you are there. That is the most likely explanation.
As Google has been stopped from gathering this data, then this will never get updated.
In theory, they were supposed to have deleted it.
The only answer would be to swap your home hub for one that has never been used anywhere Google has been.
You can prove this by going into the location setting of the phone, and unticking the option which says "Use Wireless Networks" The just use the mobile network and GPS..
The explanation above is THE most like cause of your wrong location
If you are using Google Lattitute, then that should also update your location on the PC when you login to Lattitude.

  • Why does my MBP 13" 2012 screen shuts down by itself?

The screen of my MBP 13" shuts down by itself, more and more often. It does not happen in a specific situation, and the laptop continues running and receiving inputs. In order to reactivate the screen I have to open and close it several times, or press the power button.
The screen turns completely back and the led outside start blinking like when I close the laptop.
The MBP is new, bought in summer 2012 and does not have any other program installed than the standard ones. I have no idea why this happens but it is occurring more and more.
    Do you have any idea?

  • Why does my MBP 15 in. i5 Retina flash blue sometimes?

I've been using this computer as a general video and photo workhorse for around...maybe 2 years. I got this MBP retina within 2 months of its' release. Anyways, for the last few months, it does this weird thing where the screen flashes blue for a duration of between 1-2 seconds to 15 seconds. I notice it's much worse when running intensive programs, but I'm not running it any harder than normal. It happens especially when I bump the areas to the side of the mouse pad, where you would rest your hands when typing. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware thing. It doesn't have any problem booting, and other than the workflow interruptions it doesn't otherwise affect the computers performance. It happens often, though, and will happen every time I bump it. I've looked up blue screens, it's not the blue screen of death. Sometimes, when I'm feeling ansy, I tap the crap out of the sides of the mouse pad and when the screen returns to normal it says that my Hard Drive was not ejected properly. When I check, none of my hard drives that were plugged into the USB ports were force ejected (FCPX would have had to reload the projects and events.) I'm wondering if it has to do with the on-board HD.

    Hi troy0891,
If I'm understanding your question correctly, when your MacBook Pro wakes from sleep, the internal keyboard and/or trackpad are slow to respond.   However, in your comments, you mention a bluetooth keyboard finder launches.
Since your internal keyboard and trackpad are not bluetooth devices, I think this may be the issue.  In the resource below, take a look at the section I have highlighted, and see if deselecting the option to allow Bluetooth devices to wake the computer" resolves your issue.
OS X Yosemite: If your Mac won’t go to or stay in sleep
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18596?locale=en_US
    Check your system’s Bluetooth settings:
Bluetooth devices can wake your Mac. If you don’t want a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse to be able to wake the Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth.
Click Advanced, then deselect “Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.”
If that option is already deselected, try turning your Bluetooth off if you are not working with a wireless keyboard and mouse.
Let me know if that helps ...

  • Unable to mount disks: why does Mac Pro think it is NTFS?

We have a 2006 and a 2008 Mac Pro. Each has four internal disk drives. The 2008 one has disk 1 & 2 concatenated as the boot drive and 3 & 4 concatenated as the backup drive. Super Duper was used to make an image backup. Right before we moved, the disk started clicking. Now it doesn't boot.
First I tried the secret keypress at boot time to switch boot disks to the other one with no luck. Then I said to myself, why not just mount the disk using the boot drive from the other mac? So I did. It doesn't mount!
Disk Utility shows the two drives in the bay as "RAID slice" and "disk2". I know they are all HFS+ Mac disks. Why is the error message think it is NTFS?
As confusing as the error message is, any ideas on how I can get the files off this disk? I'm thinking my next try should be Disk Warrior or something like that?
    Disk Utility:
    Verify and Repair volume “disk2”
** /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix has been disabled because of volume corruption issues.
** If you still want to try fixing your volume, use /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix from the command line...
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
Mac OS X 10.5.8--the 2008 mac has the server version.
We all think the boss should buy us all new Mac Pros with SSDs.

No need to put down $$$ for new, but it is over due time to upgrade to Lion or later, and an SSD is a cheap way to get a huge improvement.
10.5.8 is not being supported. 106.8 still is.
500GB SSD is more than enough for system, 250GB should be fine, prices are $250 and $140 range, and $12 for a sled adapter.
I would not use those drives as concatenated, not for system or backup. And I would not keep data and system on the same volume. One you undo and redo and get more current storage and probably RAM and newer OS you should be fine, a new GPU probably, but all of that is cheaper and doable.
Amazon has FBDIMMs in the $25 2 x 2GB set for 2006-2008, and 16GB makes a nice base system.

  • Why Does Photoshop Sometimes Think A Raw File is Already Open?

I'm doing some R&D where I'm opening the same Canon .CR2 raw file multiple times, experimenting with different converter settings.
Sometimes I can open multiple documents in succession from the same raw file, in which case the documents are named e.g., IMG_7470, IMG_7470-2, etc.
Sometimes it ignores my request to open the same raw file again, instead just making one of the documents I already have open current.  The simplest case is where I document IMG_7470 already open, and I either use File - Open Recent and choose the .CR2 file again, or even drag the CR2 file into Photoshop.
The workaround is trivial, I just save the open document as a PSD file, then I can open the CR2 file again into a new document.
Am I missing something obvious about what causes Photoshop to think a document has changed enough that opening the same file again should actually work?
Thanks for your wisdom on this.

  • Why does my MBP say "updating managed settings" when booting up?

    Hi all,
I just installed Mavericks onto my 2011 15" MBP the other day, and since then when I boot up, I get this message that says "updating managed settings" with an icon of a star and check mark inside of it.  It also takes longer to boot up.  I thought it might have something to do with OSX server, which I bought and installed a while ago, thinking I was gonna use it, which I never did.  I deleted Server from the apps folder last night into the trash, but that message is still appearing.  Any help would be great, thanks!

no, but it's definitely not due to a corrupt external drive. this happened with two different brands of drives. the first time with a lacie, i thought my MBP hard drive was damaged, but it was determined that a reinstall was all it needed. the same thing happened with an OWC. they both work fine. there seems to be some kind of a permission problem which gets screwed up somwhere.

  • Why does my MBP slow down throughout the day?

If I reboot my MBP it will run very fast, nice and zippy.  But as the hours go on it seems to slow down to a crawl.  I am noticing this in particualr in PS where I can run a program called Portraiture (for example) that will run almost instantly after a reboot and then hours later will take as much as 25 or 30 seconds to run.
The only thing that I have noticed is it does seem to correspond (possibly) with an external hard drive I attach to it frequently.  I did this morning again and noticed it starting to slow shortly after.  Ejecting the disk and unplugging it doesn't help, but ejecting it, unplugging and rebooting does help.  (Though I don't kow if it is just the reboot that is helping and not neccesarily the disk)  This ext HD is one that was used with my PC and is now being used to transfer files from the old PC to the new Mac.  Could this be the problem?  Have you ever heard of this being an issue?
I just used a tool called the band aid tool- this is something that is used for retouching.  When using this tool it is typically instant but just now it took about 45 seconds for it to do it's job.  I looked at the activity monitor and it was showing only 2% memory usage at the time.
This seems a bit odd to me.
    MBP, Lion, 2.3GHZ, 8GB RAM.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Why does my MBP freeze when I close an application?

This doesn't happen all the time by any means, but it happened enough for me to think that I need to reinstall Lion.
After a lengthy installation process (which was very painful btw), Lion is back up and running but in the past hour has crashed twice whilst exiting an application.
Either by using CMD + Q or going to the file menu and clicking quit, Lion intermitently crashes, the mouse cursor disappears and I am forced to hard reset the machine.
This MBP is only two weeks old, which makes this even more frustration.
    What are my options?
    Regards,
    Jon

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|Previous Sh' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
