Why does my slide show with music crash back to the album on Retina display?

I really enjoy making slide shows that have music on iphotonand have done it for years.  Suddenly after working with slide shows and music on my new Mac Book Pro 15" with retina display the slide show crashes back to the album display after the first slide.  The title comes up, the music starts the first slide comes up and then it just stops and goes back to the album display.  Everything was working fine until Sunday when I installed the new Iphoto.

Ok, people. No one helped me on this one, I figured it out by myself.   There is a new section in Iphoto called "slideshows" and if you move the album from which you want to make a slideshow there the  slideshow and music work perfectly together with the benefit that now you and store different music with each slide show that I hadn't been able to do before.
Mystery solved.

I'm trying to finalize/share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I'd like to finalize it 1080 hd and have tried several times, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying it can't be done because "File already open with with write permission."  What does this mean?  All files are closed; this iMovie project is the only thing open.  Does it mean one of the song files from iTunes? And should I just settle for saving it as a "large" file, which is what I'm trying right now?
    Thanks,

  • Hi, I made a slide show with music from 81 photos I downloaded from my camera.  I would like to burn these to a blank DVD, but there appears to be no utility for export to a DVD for slide shows.  Help.  I want to distribute DVD copies to classmates

Hi, I made a slide show with music from 81 photos I downloaded to iphoto from my camera.  I would like to burn the slide show to DVD, but can't make this happen.  How do I go about doing this?

If the DVD is to play on a DVD Player, then Share -> Send to iDVD as iDVD is the only app that creates the correct file structure and format for this purpose.
If the DVD is just to hold the file, then Export to the desktop and burn with the Finder.

    Hi jackwyatt,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you would like to connect your MacBook Pro to a projector to output the display and sound, the cables and adapters you need will vary depending on the specific model MacBook Pro that you have.
I recommend this page for getting a good idea of which adapters you might need:

  • HD computer-based slide show with music

I've been asked to do a 1024x768 slide looped slide show with background music. I know using Encore slide show to make a DVD will not supply the HD requirement. If I can play the show on a PC, I can output to a digital projector at that resolution and to an audio amplifier and speakers. Many programs will do PC slide shows for 1024x768 images, but I haven't found any that will sync to wav or MP3 audio and loop the package. Does anyone have a recommendation within or outside Adobe software?

Premiere Pro might do what you need here.
It will certainly handle the HD part, but you're gonna need a serious system to set this up.
Premiere's HD editing will go to the following resolutions:
    1440x1080 @ 16:9
    960x720 @ 16:9
    After Effects will do 1280x1080 @ 16:9
1024x768 is not an HD spec resolution.
It might be supported under WMV though.

  • What is best app for photo slide show with music

Photoshop, Elements, or LR - for photo slide show with music

Are those the only choices you want to consider? Which do you already use? Here's my take on the slideshow capability in each:
Photoshop CS6 and CC: You can create slieshows in a video format but you will have to crawl through hoops and climb barrels to get what you want. The timeline feature of Photoshop is not exactly intuitive.
Elements: Can't comment since I have never used the software.
Lightroom: much easier than Photoshop to create a slideshow but also extremely feature limited. Slideshows can run directly from the software or rendered as a video. Only one music track is allowed with limtied transitions effects. Want the fabled 'Ken Burns' effect? Forget it!
Neither of these choices specifically target slideshow creation and I would certainly not pick any for this purpose (unless you already use them). Best to seek software dedicated for slideshows. Several are free.

  • Sound cuts out on DVD slide shows with music

I have tried 5 DVD slide show programs with the same result.  Hewlett Packard says my hardware is OK but I have a compatability problem.  My wife has the same compaint.  Can you help with my computer?

Before doing anything with the computer in question, backup all the music files in question to either a flash drive or CD. Try  that music, etc on an independent computer, either friend's or at a library to see if the files are good and do not exhibit the problems that are being observed on the computer in question.  If they play OK elsewhere, then try the "Recovery Partition Manager" to return the computer to "like from the factory".  With all the software experimenting, it could be a problem between the different software installs. Once the computer is "like from the factory" again, then try to play the music that was backed up on the "factory fresh" installation without any other software installs.  Report back on how that goes.

  • Varying the Slide Transition Time Interval in Slide Show with Music

I have this old iPhoto 4.0.3 version in my PowerBook. Is it possible to create a slide show that's put to music? More importantly, can the transition from slide to slide be varied (e.g., one slide changes after 4 seconds; the next slide changes after 10 seconds; the slide after changes after 6 seconds, etc.) or am I limited to one consistent slide transition interval? Do I need to upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto? Or do I need to use an entirely different application to do varying slide transition time intervals?
    Thank you.
    Michael

No, you can't vary the time interval in the same slide show.
There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD, but they all have one thing in common: they reduce the quality of the photos to that of a movie still frame and sometimes limit the number of photos you can use.
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

  • I just created a slide show with music and tried to export it to a thumb drive to play on another computer.  File seemed too large and slow to export, so I deleted the music. Now, I can't get the music back on it and don't know what to do...

Can't export my slide show.  Is the file too big? Tried to export without music.  Now, can't get the music back into it.

If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Why does iPhoto slide show show only horizontal stripes?

    Hi,
Suddenly my iPhoto ’08 no longer works. Everything shows up fine in Preview, but when I start the actual slide show only horizontal stripes appear...
    What can I do?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

    Klaus:
Try the following: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. If that doesn't fix the problem rebuild the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and following the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Ipad:  photo slide show with music problem.

Using the ipad, looking at my photo's, I select a photo, select slide show and knowing that I have already set the play music with slide show, I then press the Airplay icon. Seconds later the slide show starts on the Apple TV, but there is no music. I have checked the settings in the photo app and the music is selected in the slide show settings, what have I not done, or is there a bug in Airplay?

I am a hybrid sort of guy. I have a bland Acer desktop with Windows 7 hard-wired to a Netgear WNDR3700 router. My AppleTV is connectected optically to a set of self-powered speakers. The Sony TV is connected to the same speakers through the analog RCA output and to the Apple TV via HDMI. The AppleTV slideshow works fine with the photos from my desktop. I can simultaneously stream music from iTunes on my desktop through the self-powered speakers via the optical connection. I am currently working on a slideshow of Christmases Past while playing my Xmas playlist from iTunes. So I get photos and music simultaneously but they are not strictly connected to each other. Kind of klutzy work-around, but my family seems impressed.

  • Problem exporting a Keynote slide show with music to iDVD

    HI
I've produced 8 end of show conference photo shows using keynote, set to music, from iTunes.
The problem I got when I exported them to DVD was that the sound file did not burn with the DVD.
I exported each file as a self running Quicktime file, with include Audio checked, at file size large. I removed the slide duration and build duration, just left these blank, and it appeared to run at the correct rate, just no sound...
The movie file and sound file appear as two separate files, iDVD will not let me include the audio file, although the help notes said you can discard this file.
I also tried going into Custom, and checking mix audio, instead of copy Audio, but it was the same result.
Any advice welcome, happy to upgrade Keynote if this helps.

OK I bought Quicktime Pro, but I still can't get this to work!
This was the suggestion from the other thread that Brian Peat made:
"It's a limitation of the export from Keynote. You might try opening the QT movie that Keynote created when you exported in QuickTime Pro and "adding" the sound track back into the movie file."
*Can anyone tell me how to do this*
    Brian again....
"I just did a test, export to iDVD and then quit iDVD. I then opened the QT movie that Keynote exports for use in iDVD and use the Add to movie function to add a sound file to the movie. I saved it and opened iDVD again. It asked me if I wanted to refresh my assests and then opened fine. And the audio WORKS.
Now, this only works for videos you want to be self playing, mostly because if you hit forward your music will skip, but it won't STOP you from skipping it if you want to. Seems to me this might be worth the $29 for QT Pro."
*I still can't see how this was done*
If anyone knows Brian can they point him at this post please?

  • Slide show with music software - any recommendations?

Hi All! Just bought a macbook (1st mac) and loving it, although I feel like an 80yr old with my first computer!
Can anyone recommend a good bit of software that will let me create slide shows of pictures in time with music. It would need to let me create it all on my mac, burn it to cd then send to people to play with a pc. With my Pc I used pictures to exe, is there something similar for my mac, either free or to buy?
Any help would my mucho appreciated!!
    Thanks

but to burn a dvd or imovie i presume i would need a DVD disk which is different to a normal cd? (sorry basic knowledge in these areas)
Yes a DVD is different and has lots more storage area. Did your computer come with the SuperDrive? That is the one that will allow burning DVDs.
When I have looked at recordable dvd's before there were 2 types + and -
if I could get dvds could I use both types??
Yes they both should work I use Verbatim DVD+R which work best for me. You may find certain disks work better for you.
Can each type be played on all computers?
Yes they should be compatible with any computer that has a DVD player built in. They can also be recorded to play on a stand alone dvd over TV.

  • How can I send a slide show (with music) to different people?

I made a slide show on my MAC desktop for my son's memorial service.  I would like to share it with people who were not able to be there.  Can I share over email
or is there another way?  Please help, if you can...it really means a lot to me!

    Sorry for your loss.
Sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays.  That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing. Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind  to Original.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentions, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.
