Why does my wireless keyboard always become disconnected then reconnected to the wifi all the time?

So I have a brand new imac and the wireless keyboard always switches between connected and disconnected randomly.  I have another identical keyboard I bought a few months ago and it works fine.  Any energy saver functions that could be doing this?

Same prob here. Brand new out of the box apple wireless keyboard with FULL batteries, bought after buying my newish Mac Mini w/o keyboard.
...keeps losing the connection from about 8 'line of sight' feet away (going through Tv to view Mac)
Not sure why a properly working Mini would have to be forced to do an SMC/PRAM reset for something new off the shelf and supposedly working (works very nice with NO signal loss or early sleep with my samsung tab)...to have to do these resets seems very 'windows like' for every new peripheral you buy down the road.
My guess would be that apple made the choice to tinker the .plist for wireless items put them to sleep in 30 secs or less to make the 'battery life' look longer for the new sales pitch. I would have preferred ALL ON, SLEEPLESS and a switch on the keyboard like the old days, but oh well.
I thought I read somewhere from a geek level website that you can 'terminal' a longer sleep mode for Btooth items... anyone know which article I saw or know the terminal command?

Why does my wireless keyboard keep shutting off?
    It is not the batteries.

More experience leads me to believe the problem is with the new iMac.  If I get the network going by turning AirPort Extreme power off, then on, I see a good signal at my iMac. Experience shows the network drops off after several hours. But yesterday I turned the iMac off, and the network remainded up (I could see it on my iPhone and iPad) throughout the night.  That's the first time that has happened since I got the new iMac.  Never had this issue with the old machine. I transferred all file to the new machine from a Time Machine backup that was up-to-date.  Am working with Apple support. They had me do a re-boot of the AirPort and will call back tomorrow AM to learn it did not solve the problem, but turning off the iMac does.  Darn.

  • How can I troubleshoot this problem with the iMac keyboard? My keyboard disconnects and reconnects within seconds but all the typing is lost while it was offline.  This is usually 5 seconds or less but happens 2 or 3 times in a minute.  Annoying!

My wireless keyboard disconnects and reconnects within seconds but all text that was typed during the time offline is missing.  i have to go back and retype missing parts.  What can I do to troubleshoot this.  The computer is only about six month old.  This problem is new in the last couple weeks.  Thanks for suggestions.

Beat me to it, Donald.     But there is a possible alternative.  If the batteries have been replaced since new, were they replaced with the same batteries or another make.    There are examples around which do not fit perfectly and leave a certain amount of movement inside the battery housing.  That could lead to instability such as the OP describes.

  • Why does my wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting?

I have a wireless track pad and keyboard (no number pad) that I use at school. I have to use a usb bluetooth adapter because the Mac Pro the school has does not have native bluetooth. My trackpad works flawlessly but my keyboard has problems. Most of the time it can not connect at all and the few times that it has connected it disconnects very soon, even while i am in the middle of typing something. This is very annoying. I have changed the batteries with a fresh pair and still the problem persists. Please help me, this is very aggrivating.

    HellO:
My normal suggestion would be to make the KB a favorite, but I am not sure that would work at your school.

  • Why does my wireless keyboard continuously lose connection?

I got this iMac brand new this past spring, and the wireless keyboard constantly loses the connection to the computer.  I mean constantly.  In the time I have taken to actually get onto this discussion board, it has lost the connection no less than 10 times.  Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

Since the 10.6.7 I get inaccurate information about battery levels. This widget seems to give more precise info for keyboard, trackpad and mouse: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/mightymonitor.html

  • Why does a b/w JPEG become overexposed when I place a PNG in the same file?

I'm creating a black-and-white ad in InDesign. The background is a JPEG edited in Photoshop (converted to grayscale, cropped, added two black rectangles, one on top, one on bottom with a gradient). I added multiple text boxes and then went to place one of three logos (created and saved in Illustrator as PNG-24) into the file. As soon as I place it anywhere in the document -- on top of the JPEG, four inches away from the JPEG, anywhere -- the JPEG goes to maximum brightness and looks terrible. If I add the logo as a JPEG, everything is fine. The problem is that the logo needs to have a transparent background, which you can only get with a PNG as far as I know. I also tried saving the background JPEG as a PNG, but it comes out similarly overexposed. What do I do??

What you are seeing is the effect of ID's shift to overprint prview quality when transparency is introduced. Grayscales are actually mapped to the black plate, and output as part of the document working CMYK, which may display lighter or darker than the preview of the grayscale. The image should look the same as it does without transparency on the page, but with overprint preview selected, and this is the actual output you can expect when you output to the current CMYK working profile.
You can use the black channel fro the CMYK profile as the gray space when converting to grayscale in photoshop if you want to have the most accurate rendition in both applications.
And if you are creating the logos in Illustrator you shold probably be saving as .ai or PDF, rather than PNG, which is a raster format.

why does my iPhone 4 always say "sync will resume when "... MacBook Pro" is available??? i can't seem to sync over wifi

    Try the following:
    1. Connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable and let it sync.
    2. Uncheck "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi"
    3. Click Apply
    4. Check "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi"
    5. Click Apply
    6. Quit iTunes
    7. Disconnect the phone from the USB cable
    8. Make sure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network
    9. Open iTunes
iTunes should see your iPhone and connect to it. Go under Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync and see if you can initiate a sync.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard (white plastic) disconnects frequently on Mac Pro

As the title states, I have the older white plastic Apple bluetooth keyboard. It disconnects and reconnects at random times a few seconds later, maybe ten time a day. It is connected to a Mid-2010 Mac Pro with the built-in bluetooth. When it does work, which is most of the time, it works just as well two feet away as twenty feet away. Apple replaced the internal bluetooth module. That didn't help.
It will really help my diagnosis if owners of this particular older keyboard (not the aluminum) would report if they are having this same issue and how they solved it. (I don't like the flat Chiclet keys of the new aluminum keyboards.) Also, if you have this older plastic keyboard with a 2010 Mac Pro, please report if it's working for you without bluetooth disconnects.
    Thank you in advance.

I want to correct something in my original post: The keyboard that I have has a CLEAR plastic housing (as opposed to aluminum.). Sorry for the confusion.

  • Why does my character palette always bink and disapear in FM 11 structured mode?

Why does my character palette always bink and disapear in FM 11 structured mode?

    Hello Bob,
thanks a lot for your reply. It actually helped me: I turned on and filled in "5GHz Network name", gave the 5GHz network another name and forced the iMac to connect to this network. It wasn't actually that seamless, because for some reason the 5GHz network appears much later in the site survey than the 2.4GHz one, and when I first tried it and didn't see the 5GHz network in the list, I typed the network name manually. This way I verified that the 5GHz network at least works.
The fact that the iMac connects to the stronger signal is interesting, I would expect kind of a more intelligent behaviour from one Apple device talking to another Apple device, but never mind. Yet one more thing: now I can see that the 5GHz connected iMac has Signal -57 and Noise -96. Doesn't this mean that this network has better signal-to-noise ratio than the 2.4 GHz network (which has -69 and -96 respectivelly)? So why does iMac choose the more noisy network anyway?
    Thank you
    JR

  • Why does my mac air always restart when I open it in our university?

Why does my mac air always restart when I open it in our university?
This has been always bothering me for some time already. Whenever I open my macbook air in our university it always warns me to restart my device. When I do the same thing happens over and over again until it reached 27 reports.

I'd make a sound too if i was put into a bag haha.
Only thing i could think of it it has a mind of its own or your putting your computer to sleep. Try shutting down your mac before placing in your bag and see if that changes things.

  • Why does my airport utility always ask me to connect an ethernet cable when I would like to use the extended network option?

Why does my airport utility always ask me to connect an ethernet cable when I would like to use the extended network option?

Please locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. Hard to see.....gray lettering on a white background....so you may likely need a magnifying glass and good lighting to see it.
The model number starts with a "A" followed by four numbers. If you see A1084 or A1088, unfortunately AirPort Utility 6.x in Mavericks OS X (10.9.4) does not support these older models. However, you can still administer these models if you have a Mac.....or can borrow one for a few minutes....using Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.

  • When I connect to a personal hotspot via bluetooth it disconnects the wifi on the serving device, why?

I know this has been working before, and I really need to connect my iPad via Bluetooth to my iPhone so that I can then use the Wireless via my iPhone. Unfortunately, every time I connect to the iPhone via Bluetooth the WiFi on the iPhone disconnects.
    What's up with that?

I've used it before. Turn on hotspot on iPhone. Turn on Bluetooth on both devices. Connect to hotspot via Bluetooth. iPad can now use wireless via iPhone.
Now it's stopped working and makes the wireless cut off on the iPhone when the Bluetooth is in use. It makes no sense.
In case you're wondering why I want to do this, there are mac address limitations in place on my network, and only one device is authorised.

  • I've seen all the posts for fixing the wifi on the 4s, none of them work!  So, who can tell me why my iPhone 4S cannot find any wifi when it used to easily, and when it does it can never connect?

I've seen all the posts for fixing the wifi on the 4s, none of them work!  So, who can tell me why my iPhone 4S cannot find any wifi when it used to find wifi, and when it does find a wifi network it can never connect?  You think apple would have a clue how to fix it!  Because turning the wifi on and off doesn't work, resorting network settings doesn't work, even restoring phone to factory default doesn't work...

Did not work. I've selected iMessage to ON and left it. After a few hours I recieved a message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". This has been going on for the past 3 days.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?
