Why does virgin IMAP email keep failing

My wife and I both have iPhone 4’s and iPad 2’s, and all are set up to access our Virgin email accounts via IMAP using the imap.virginmedia.com server. For some reason my wife’s iPhone keeps having an issue every few days or so where emails cannot be downloaded and she gets a message saying ‘The mail server “imap.virginmedia.com” is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings’.
In the past when this came up I used to close down the mail application and it would then work again, however since iOS 6 this does not fix the issue, and the only way I can get her email to work again is to delete the email account and rebuild it once more.
I am puzzled not only as to what is happening, but also why this only affects the mail on her iPhone and not iPad, and why it never affects me? I would normally think it is an issue with the virgin mail servers but as this only affects her iPhone (and not her iPad with the same settings) I am not so sure and so think it is an Apple issue. Can anyone help or have any suggestions?
Just to be clear, all IMAP accounts on the 4 devices are set up the same, and her email does work with the settings used for a time. It just keeps encountering this error on the iPhone (more frequently over the past few weeks).

I love the way threads just die in these support forums. I have the same problem so went into Apple Store in London and asked someone, when I said I was on Virgin they rolled theirs eyes and said 'IMAP and Virgin emails on iPhone are not good' I asked if it had anything to do with the fact that Virgin.net use Gmail to provide their email but he wasn't aware if that was the issue.
Sorry no solution but safe to say you are not alone, it's doing my head in and to complicate things for me if I have wifi enabled, and connected at home, POP emails won't send via cellular connection but second I disable wifi they fly. Sorry I digress.

ALMOST EVERY time I start a movie on a Safari page (Or a lot of other programs) it fails and I have to start the program again!
Only one out of 3 or 10 times I try it works. Sometimes I does not work no matter how many times I try !!

The reason I asked is because I don't understand how you managed to install 9.1.1 on your iMac...
So... out of curiosity, as you didn't actually answer the question... how did you install 9.1.1 on your Mac given the DVD version is 9.0.0?
As to your questions...
You may install Logic Pro 9 from the Logic Studio package legally on one desktop and one laptop you own... as per the Logic Studio license terms and conditions..
However, had you purchased Logic Pro 9 via the App store, rather than via the boxed edition of Logic Studio 2.0..   that licence, is different and allows you to install LP9 on any number of computers you own for your own private use.. using your Apple ID and the purchased tab of the Mac App Store application.
If you feel Apple should have done a better job in notifying you about the requirements of Logic Pro 9 in reference to the 9.1.6 update being needed under Mountain Lion, why don't you contact them and tell them... via the feedback form,

Why does my mavericks download keep failing?

Recently my 2011 macbook pro 13'' computer stopped booting up. It would turn on and give the progress bar and the apple logo but the bar wouldn't fill and instead it would shut off by itself. So, I started it holding command r and went to see what was wrong. My drive was damaged and it was telling me to back up and erase the disk. Thing is every time I tried to back up the disk it kept giving me an error saying it couldn't because of the input or output, but it was wrong since i used the same memory on my other computer and it was working. So i just gave up and deleted everything. The i went back into disk utility verified and repaired my two disk like crazy and now i'm stuck trying to redownload mavericks.
It'll start the download but an hour in or sometimes 20 minutes before it's done it'll give me the messAge "installation failed redownload at the store" and i'll do it again and again and again. Could it be that my hard drive is damaged? Is it time to go to the store?

I'd get the drive checked before wasting any more time with this. If you go to an Apple store, they can re-install the OS for you.

WHY DOES THE PE EDITOR KEEP FAILING TO LOAD

I have a brand new problem with Photoshop Elements 8, which I've been using in Windows for several years.
Suddenly the PE editor refuses to load--either from "Fix" in the album space or from "Edit" in the Workspace. It starts to load (with the green dots moving across the bar) and then kicks out. Even after I signed in successfully to PE, the editor still fails to load. Any suggestions?

One easy fix for Adobe programs is to Reset Preferences = Press/HOLD Ctrl+Alt+Shift while starting program

I 'think' I restored my iPhone 5 to factory settings when installing new iTunes version. Anyway, everything is GONE. I've tried again and again to restore. It stops and tells me the 'session failed' but provides no other reason. Can I restore my settings and contacts another way or how can I prevent it from failing again? Thanks!

Why does my hard disk keep failing?

I've had my late 2009, white Macbook running Snow Leopard since February 2010 and in the two years I've had it the 'Macintosh HD' has broken three times. One time an application told me to download Adobe shockwave which totally messed it up and it would barely stay on for five minutes and the second and third times were seemingly unprovoked. The first two times I lost all my files - I'm fifteen and I can't afford to buy expensuve backing up software to back up a laptop that I already saved for a long time to buy.
I had another problem that I think was an unrelated hardware problem, but once every hour or so, the screen would become pixelated, freeze and fade to white, only changing back if you moved it. It seemed to sort itself out but it was pretty concerning.
I had to reset it again this morning after running disk utility which told me that the hard disk could not be repaired. I figured this might be imminent so my files are all safely backed up, but I'm not particularly amused and doubt this is normal for a Mac seeing as no one would spend £800 on something that you have to reset annually. I was wondering if some way I'm using my Mac is causing it to do this. I'm careful with my space used and I rarely have under 170 GB free, so I don't think it's my files. Maybe I've just got a faulty computer? Any ideas?

I take it that you have a 250GB hard drive in it?
With that much free space, I would think that your HD should be fairly trouble free. Only thing that I can think of that would cause an issue is improperly shutting down constantly. And you should restart your computer at least once a month or so, but either of these things are likely to have caused corruption bad enough to take down the drive. I guess it is possible that your drive has some bad sectors, you might want to run a more comprehensive drive utility than Disk Utility. Disk Warrior for example.

Go to: Settings, Messages, Send & Receive. My mobile number was greyed out and wouldn't allow me to select it. My email address was highlighted but it also allowed me to "Add An Email". I selected my current email address and it gave me the option to delete it. Once I deleted my email address, it automatically reverted to my mobile number!!

I'm guessing it's more likely a problem with your carrier's 3G network in the area. You shouldn't have to modify any settings for 3G to work consistently on a supported carrier.
You can try turning off 3G data, with will switch over to Edge if it exists. If it does, it will be much slower than 3G, but I suppose faster than 0 is better than 0.
I'd contact your carrier about it.

Ten days isn't an option I'm familiar with; perhaps it's a new option in Lion? Prior OS's had choices like one day, week, month, etc.
If not being apparently set in your email client, it's possibly been set or is set by default at the server level. To check and change that you'll have to access it directly, usually by logging into that domain directly.

What is the crash notice you receive? OS X is very good about keeping extensive, detailed crash logs. If you launch Applications > Utilities > Console.app and open the "User Diagnostic Reports" group on the left, can you drag the most recent Audition crash report into an e-mail to [email protected] ? The contents of that file should make it more clear to us why Audiiton or the OS thinks a crash is happening and will help focus troubleshooting.
