Why doesn't my webcam work?

My Macbook Air has a builtin webcam. It worked fine a few days ago but now it's suddenly stopped. When I go on Facetime it comes up with an image of a camera with a line through it. On Photo Booth it says there is no camera connected. Why is this?

Had you performed any updates or upgrades prior to it failing? On a different note, have you dropped your laptop or in some way almost damaged it recently? Could possibly be a driver issue OR it could be a loose webcam ribbon cable. The solution to the first possibility depends on what the problem actually is, the solution to the second possibility must be repaired at the Apple Genius Bar.

My problem is to undestand why I got a syntax error about parenthesis.Because you cannot perform arithmatic operation with a value coming from a subquery in a SET clause of UPDATE

Why doesn't my timeline work in IE?

I created this page with a basic timeline. The timeline works in Firefox, Safari and Chrome but not in IE. All my browsers are up to date. Any help would be appreciated!

Nancy; THANK YOU!! OK..it still does not work but I see where there are a lot of errors. I changed the head tags and it still does not work but I would assume I can go to the site/page you sent and it analyzes webpages for errors? I will keep at it til I get it right or maybe redo the page but thank you very much for your time...I truly appreciate it. Steve

Why doesn't viewport tag work if the page is local?

If the ipad just connects to my computer and views the .htm page then the viewport tag is not supported. However, if I upload that same page to a web server and visit it the ipad does support it.
Any idea why that is or what can be done to fix it?

I haven't tested it but Firefox 26 from the Google Play store should work on the Galaxy Mega. I'd be surprised if it doesn't. It works fine on the 3 other Samsung devices I have.
Please try re-installing Firefox and then if you still have the same issue namely:

than it's probably a Metro PCS issue because it is possible for your mobile carrier to do things like take over what's displayed when you open Firefox or any other browser. We've had cases of other US mobile carriers changing the home page on Firefox and other Android browsers for example.
If you still get the same Metro PCS issue, does the issue go away when you use another WiFi provider, e.g. at Starbucks?

Why doesn't the Macbook work lid-closed??

I've only just discovered that the Macbook will try to go to sleep every time i close it's lid. For me, this is possibly the most annoying thing that any laptop could ever do!
I know the Macbook is designed for lid closed use when external keyboard, mouse and display are connected. But if it doesn't overheat in this situation, then why should it be a problem without any of these connected!?
I use my laptops esentially as desktops. Download and encode video overnight, play mp3's 24/7 and don't want to leave the lid open for dust to collect just to be able to do these things.
Can anyone think of anything to explain this crazy behaviour? Or vouch for the use of software to work around this, such as sleepless.

Wtihout knowing Aple's specific reasons I would think that it were a safely reason. With the lid closed it would hence but unknown if it were on. There are no lights or anything to say this so potentially you can grab it and move it as though you would when off. Thi s could be extremely bad, even with the sudden motion sensor.
When it is connected to an external monitor you will at minimum have to disconnect it and USB mouse/keyboard which does give you time to think that it's on.
I have the same issue as you do though as I have a PowerBook currently running as a server. I use a very high tech device to keep the lid open just enough to keep the thing from sleeping.… it's called an eraser.

Why doesn't Wifi Sync work after updating ITUNE?

Hello, I updated my Itune to 11.1.4.62 version.
After updating, WIFI sync doesn't work anymore. I have to connect the cable to my laptop to sync it. Before this upgrade it was working fine.
Now, I have Iphone 5. I run Windows 7.
I did all the recommended trouble shooting.
I disconnected the model and router and reconnected again.
On Summary page the Wifi Sync is CHECKED
I ran the diagnostic, but obviously it says iphone is not detected.
I reseted my iphone.
It still doesn't work.
How can I solve this matter and why does Apple have so many irrtating problems like this?

The passcode screen shows as usual but when I enter the passcode it says the passcode is invalid. This is the same passcode I have had for over a year, so I am sure I entered it correctly. I stopped trying before the phone was disabled though.
I've seen other similar posts but they mostly say connect it to my computer, start itunes, then restore. I haven't synced with itunes in a long time, not sure restoring it would be a good idea. I back up to iCloud much more frequently but can't remember for sure when I last did that either. I'm afraid of losing stuff in the process of restoring it.

Nobody here knows the definitive answer as to why the original iPad will not run iOS 6. Only Apple could answer that question and they aren't saying. The bottom line is - it isn't supported. I have the original iPad and in my opinion, the processor could never handle what iOS has to offer. There would probably be crashes galore and the iPad would become a useless brick.
If your asking and looking for a reason is cathartic for you, have at it. But you are just wasting your time looking for the reason.

I just got iTunes match and it doesn't work! it uploads the songs that it can't match but it can't even match half of the songs. but thats not my main issue. the issue is the matched songs doesn't sync with the songs in iTunes as if i didn't buy the thing at all. it doesn't give me the artwork, the title (if the old one is incorrect) or any other information that should be changed. it doesn't formate it, to a better quality, as it should. Please keep in mind that these are for the matched songs. i even waited 2 days for it to finish uploading the unmatched songs thinking that it matches the songs when its done. but nothing. Please help, tell me what to do!

Car manufacturers are now building complex car kits into their vehicles.
The companies include:
Ford, Audi, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Vauxhall/Opel, Volkswagen, Mercedes, and other high end specification cars.
One of the functions, is that it pulls the phone book data from the phone via bluetooth.
Background Information
A lot of the Nokia E and N series, Symbian S60 handsets, do not carry the required bluetooth profile in their bluetooth stack.
The phone is missing the Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) that allows the car to pull data from the phone.
Why the phones do not carry the profile is unknown. What is known is that using the Nokia 810 car kit downloader software, you can partly restore some of this functionality.
Additionally the Nokia 616 Car Kit Downloader will also function, along with the Ford Connectivity Downloader.
Workaround

You'll need to delete the existing pairing in the handset and the car, then install and run the application, don't just install the application and expect it to work, you must re-pair the handset and the car.
When it is installed start the application, and then re-pair the phone to the radio, this may then copy your contacts into the radio, be paitent, as it can take a few minutes to copy and setup.
It may copy the phone book over, but the Missed Dialled and Received calls may not work.
I have tested this with an Audi S3, A4, and A6 on a Nokia N82 and N95.
The Nokia E71, appears to have the profile and functions correctly with an Audi car kit, in Handsfree Profile mode.
The Nokia E71, when connected in SIM access profile mode is the same as the other E and N series handsets are requires the 810 or 616 downloader to be installed in the handset.
Installing the 810/616 downloader only restores phone book functionality, there are some software combinations on car and phones that work without the downloader.
It may also be possible for your car manufacturers franchised dealer to be able to update the software in your car so that additional features are available, they may charge for this service. Also updating software in the phone may also help, as Nokia may see fit to add the profile if they are able.
For some cars and handsets, when you are connecting with the SIM Access Profile function, you will still need to install the 616/810 downloader application as detailed above, as the phone normally switches off most of its functionality. The phone book will then normally function when you have installed the application.
The workaround only resolves the problem with the phone book. Problems such as random disconnecting which also is reported, are beyond the scope of this article.

I have noticed recently that random disconnecting can be caused if you have an Internet Telephony Service running in your handset. Also if you have the WLAN discovery setting enabled then this can cause the same problem - whilst I am not attempting to try and resolve random disconnects, it could be a reason for why this is happening.
I have recently installed a VoIP service in my handset and 100 mtrs from my home when the handset disconnects from this service at my house, the Bluetooth disconnects from the Car Kit, in my E71.

Audi also make a Bluetooth Sim Access Profile adapter for their Generation II and Generation III (Low) mobile telephone interface. (Audi Part No: 8P0051440) The SIM access service will require the 810 phone kit downloader application. With this on my kit I am getting disconnections with Bluetooth. To prevent this, I switch Bluetooth off and then on again prior to connecting to the kit, this resolves the disconnecting.

Further to the Audi edit above, I now have an Audi S4 2009 with the Audi Mobile Phone Preparation (high) for this to function correctly with phone book access the 810 Downloader needs to be installed, and running when the phone connects to the car every time it connects. Otherwise the phone book access does not operate.

WHY DOESN'T SMTP PROPERLY WORK IN LEOPARD?

This is unacceptable Apple. The most basic of programs, Mail, does not work properly. I can't send Email from Mail. No problems with 10.4.x. I "upgrade" to this. Judging by the forums this is a HUGE bug and needs to be fixed ASAP.

I made the mistake of checking the "Use Secure Sockets Layer SSL" button, but setting everything else correctly. Mail didn't send. Maybe that was a dumb problem on my part, but if your SMTP server doesn't require or use SSL then try un-checking that box and re-sending your mail.
Also, if you need to change the server port, which can't be done from the setup wizard, then you need to intentionally let the wizard fail and change the setting yourself afterward, from preferences (I have several accounts that require port 80 instead of the default port.)

Quite often, the visitors to the site can't get Java3d-applets to start even if they have installed Java3d.
Eventhough they have modern PC's with new operating systems and hardware. Why does this happen? I have a detailed page with descriptions on how to install it:

This annoys me a lot. I'm considering to start program my visuals in some other language than Java3d.
