Why is image distorted on DVD

Being new to Macs I am experimenting with iMovie bringing together movie clips and stills to make a movie to burn to DVD using iDVD. When I view the result in the iDVD preview it looks ok but when I burn the DVD, insert it in the DVD player and view on TV some of the pictures look distorted. In particular people in the portrait view stills look short and fat. Also the movies are shot at 640x480 so what format should I use. If I set the projest to wide screen as our TV is it seems the movie is spread to fill the width by cropping off the height. Should I set the screen to standard?

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Why are images distorted when burning a slide show to iDVD from iPhoto?

I have created a slide show in iPhoto and wanted to burn a DVD.  Some of the images are scans from old family pictures.
The images present in the proper aspect ratio within iPhoto, but when I burn the CD in iDVD, some of the images are either compressed in from the sides or widened unacceptably.  Anyone know why the images are being distorted?

I gave the iphoto slide show a show and although I couldn't access the options in the idvd dialog box, I liked the end results better. I included 225 pics, and the random transition's option from iphoto enhances the outcome. The random transition option is not available in idvd.

  • Why Does Image Distort When I move the Bones?

    http://postimage.org/image/jjcef8ebt/
Hi, I just watched a tutorial where they apply bnes to deform a "bitmap" image. Their image didn't distort like my image. Why is this happening.
I imported an image then I "selected "break apart" and then I added bones to it. When I move the bones it makes the image distort, but in this tutorial here the image doesn't distort. What is wrong?

The tutorial you watched is very simplistic. He doesn't use the bones in a realistic way and skips over the fact that his image isn't actually distorting the way he implies it will.
When you break apart a bitmap on the Stage, you end up with a shape that has its fill set as the bitmap (which is still in the library). When you bend and distort this shape with bones, the effect on the bitmap fill is unpredictable. Note that in the tutorial you cited, the author does not show the bitmap actually distorting in any useful way.
The better way to do this is to select the bitmap instance on stage and then choose Modify > Bitmap > Trace Bitmap. This converts the bitmap instance to a vector drawing. The problem here is that you end up with mulitple shapes of different colors if you have a multi-color image like your dinosour tail. You can add bones to the main green part of the tail, but the yellow parts will not be associated with those bones and so will not move with them. If you are animating the tail in the timeline, you can animate the main part of the tail via the bones and then animate the other parts to compliment that movement by moving those other parts to different layers and animating with normal motion tweens.

  • Menu Background Images - distorted for some reason...??

    Hi again,
posted this problem a while ago, thought i had discovered a fix, but haven't had time to work on it in a few weeks. i have a high quality .tif image file 720x576 in size to use for my background image on a menu, but when it is placed in, the diagonal lines become jagged as if DVDSP was stretching the image in some way. i have tried a number of different dimensions (going by what i found in the help files) and nothing seems to work. the 720x576 .tif seems to be the closest so far...
any ideas why this is happening? the aspect ratio is set to 16:9 anamorphic and the image is the exact size of the canvas, so i don't understand why it is distorting.
    any help much appreciated.
    thanks
    Harry

    Glad you got it sorted...
But that actually makes no sense based on the information you gave.
If you are creating PAL menus then you can either use the latest versions of Photoshop which use Pixel ration Compensation (or something like that) to show you in Photoshop what a 16x9 menu would look like at 1024x576 when the actual file is really 720x576. If it's a 4x3 menu it will appear as 768x576 when it's actually 720x576
The other alternative is to create your menu at 1024x576 (as you said you had it as 16x9) then save out the menu from Photoshop as a 720x576 file and bring it into DVD-SP and flag it as 16x9 - which is what you said you had done...
So I am intrigued how you have now fixed it... when you started with a 720x576 file

  • Jpg image distorted when retrieved

I am using the photo album demo for IIS/ASP. I can upload my photo fine; however, when I attempt the retrieve it the image looks like a bunch of striped primary colors. Both the thumbnail and the full size image look this way. It is nothing like the .jpg image I loaded. I can retrieve the image properties fine and do receive any errors. Here are the image properties.
    image width =808
    image height =698
    image size = 88677
    image file type =JFIF
    image type = 24BITRGB
    image compression =JPEG
    image mime type =image/jpeg
Any ideas as to why the image would be so distorted? Thanks!!

I apologize for the bad sentence structure above. I meant to say "I can load and retrieve the image properties fine and do NOT receive any errors".

  • T530 lcd image distortions - possibly from hinge?

    Hi everybody,
I am first time poster. I own a T530 and so far I am very satisfied with it - the best laptop I've had, better even then my previous Elitebook and Macbook pro.
I am posting, because the LCD screen started to show image distortions when changing the angle of the screen. I searched for a similar problem on the forums, but did not find any (maybe because of bad keywords). Anyway, I am hoping that you will be able to help diagnose the problem:
Image distortions occur when changing the angle of the screen (usually when opening), always on the same angle - this is why I suspect a problem with the hinges. Also, this happens only when opening, not when closing, so this is a one-way problem. See attached pictures and video for a better explanation and demonstration.
Here is a link to a short video (20s) where the fault is clearly seen: T530 video of lcd fault
At first this was only rarely and could not be repeated. But now it is worse and can be easily repeated. I suspect it has something to do with the hinges, but not sure. The laptop was never dropped and was always handled with care.
Any idea what is causing the distortions and how to fix it?
    Best regards,
    VO

Are you on Intel 4000 or Nvidia?  Something is conflicting the drivers.  Run Double Driver (it's safe and free) and nix the old or duplicate versions.  May need to nix them all and then download and install only the fresh.

  • Unmount image disk/CD/DVD/peripheral-Ejecter une image disque/CD/DVD/périph

    Hello,
I write to you because I have a problem to eject, unmount the images disk, the CD/DVD, and the peripherals. That made a long time that I use Mac Os X and it is the first time that I have this problem. When I want to unmount an image disk, CD/DVD, peripheral, I use usually two ways: either I make slip the icon of the desktop to the trash, or I supports on ejecting in Finder, where the peripherals are placed. For CD I support on F12.
Unfortunately, and I could not say why, that does not work any more. Normally a white icon is posted on the screen when I support on F12, and then, nothing happens. Similar when I make slip the icons to the trash or when I use Finder.
My only way to eject the peripherals is to use "the utility of disc" (don't know how to say it in french: utilitaire de disque).
This is a bit irritating and I would like to know if you have solutions for me.
    Thank you very much
    Bonjour,
    Merci beaucoup

    Hello,
    Will Command+E eject the disk?
Select the disk and click command+e.
    The disk should eject.

  • Add image files to DVD-ROM

When using iDVD '09 to create a slideshow, I select the option to "Add image files to DVD ROM". As expected, my finished DVD contains the DVD-ROM Contents folder, and after digging down into a few more sub-folders I get to the original photos used to create the slideshow. So far so good. However, inside the folder containing the slideshow images there is another sub-folder that is always named "originals" which contains a second set of identical images.
This "originals" folder is only created when I use photos from the iPhoto library in my DVD. If the slideshow photos are sourced from a folder somewhere using the finder I do not get the the second set of images.
At first I thought maybe iDVD was placing a copy of the original unedited iPhoto images and a copy of the edited iPhoto images onto the DVD, but the 2 sets of images are absolutely identical as far as I can tell.
Anyone know why iDVD is placing 2 sets of images onto the DVD?

Just made an interesting discovery. I went back through some older DVDs looking at the DVD-ROM contents folders. On my older DVDs, the main set of images are all those used in the slideshow, while the "originals" folder contains the unmodified copies of only those photos that were modified in iPhoto. The "originals" folder could therefore contain the same number of photos if all were modified, less if only some of them were modified, or none at all if you didn't modify any of them in iPhoto.
So it would appear that iDVD is indeed supposed to follow the same "original" and "modified" structure of iPhoto in order to archive both versions onto the DVD. This is obviously the correct behaviour and is a very clever feature for Apple to include, but it doesn't appear to be working with the newer versions of iDVD.
The older DVDs I have where this has worked correctly were created on my old iMac with iDVD 6. All the incorrect DVDs I have with 2 identical sets of photos were created since buying my new MBP. I started off with iDVD '08 on the MBP and I'm now using iDVD '09. So there is either something wrong with my system, or there has been a bug in iDVD since the '08 version (suppose it could be an iPhoto bug as well).
I would like to know if anyone else has checked the DVD-ROM folder on their DVDs to see if the main images and those in the "originals" folder are identical. This would apply to iDVD '08 and '09 and only if you sourced the slideshow images through iPhoto. If I'm not alone then it would appear to be an Apple bug.

  • Need help diagnosing cause of printing issue w/ image distortion

Hello, I'm looking for some expert advice for my print issue with image distortion (see above) on my files once setup and proofed by my printer.
I have a large PSD background file out of photoshop (CMYK, 170mb psd) that is being placed into an InDesign document. No preflight errors, all correct SWOP cmyk settings, and I keep having issues where images distort on my printers proofs - they seem unable to explain the issue and can't offer any other suggestions beyond ("just try resaving/uploading again" which of course has an added fee with each upload...).
The files are all fine on our end: on-screen, on our cmyk proofs, and our saved PDFs/packaged files. But everytime our printer opens these they seem to have these distorted image problems - scrambled images (almost as if there was a ghosted transparent image in the distorted area), strange lines (see above, and color distortion (usually greens and pinks, see above).
Is this an issue with my settings/file formats? Maybe the issue lies on our printers end? I'll keep checking this throughout the day and provide quick answers to anyone who can help me get to the bottom of this.
Adobe forums have been a huge help in years past so I decided this was by best bet for a resolution from those who know more than myself (or my printer), thanks for taking the time to help!

  • Burning several disk images in one DVD

Is it possible to bun 2 disk images on a DVD? I tried in DU but if both .img are selected,"Burn" is greyed.
Alternatively, how can I combine 2 disk images into one, so that DU will accept to burn it?
I found the following advice a Forum:
A .dmg file is a disk image, and can be treated like any other disk. You can copy the contents of one into another, or make a new blank image and copy their contents into that.
I did that, but, as I said, DU doesn't agree
Those disk images contain home videos which have been edited in iMovie 5, but cannot be burned in iDVD because my Mac mini has no DVD burner. So I create a disk image in iDVD and use DU -> Images -> burn on an external burner.
Also, is it possible to rename a DVD? For some reason the latest DVD is bearing the same name as the DVD burned just before it.

your whole topic is Finder-related, MacOs allows/supports simple drag'n drop...
your both .imgs exist at some location of your Mac, right?
    no app needed nor running...
    insert an empty dvd-r
your Mac will ask you what to do...
you do: drag'n drop both .img files onto disk...
hit the burn button in disk's window..
    no step 3), boom! done..

  • Why are images not displaying at correct resolution in emails?

    I've just upgraded to Windows 7 (64bit).
Thunderbird is not displaying images at the correct resolution: images that I insert into the body of an email and images used in my signature.
The images appear larger than they should and pixelated.
It seems that images are not displaying at the correct resolution inside my emails, whereas in other programs on my machine images are displaying correctly.
When I insert and image into an email using insert>image, the resulting "Image Properties" window displays the image's dimensions correctly. This confirms my suspicion that the resolution is not displaying correctly inside emails (a lower resolution than elsewhere on my screen, which would explain why the images appear bigger and pixelated).
I'd appreciate any help in fixing this problem.
    Regards,
    Catsix

    Hi Zenos,
I've discovered what is causing the problem, but I still need a way to fix it, if possible.
The cause of the problem is that in Windows 7 Control Panel > Display I have set the size of "text and other items" to 150% (otherwise everything is much too small too read on my screen's recommended resolution of 1920×1080).
I discovered that Irfan Viewer was also displaying at the incorrect resolution, but I managed to solve that problem by right-clicking on the IrfanView.exe icon and following Properties > Compatibility and selecting "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
I tried the same procedure with Thunderbird, but it made no difference. It is still displaying at the incorrect resolution.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Catsix

  • Still images exported to DVD look deinterlaced and flicker on TV monitor

    Hi,
I have tried tried almost everything and I still have issues with the still images exported to DVD as sequencefrom FCP 7.0 by using Compressor are deinterlaced and flicker on TV monitor. Please help remove the annoying flicker.
My FCP Timeline Sequence settings match the image resolution:
    Frame Size: 1024 x 682 (double of 720 x 480 standard DVD res)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
Compressor: Photo JPG (also tried, DVCPRO-NTSC)
I cropped the original images in Photoshop to the 1024 x 682 and saved as tiffs. They still look deinterlaced in FCP timeline and exported to DVD on my iMac computer monitor.
Final output of DVD will be on this monitor:
    Specifications:
    Ikegami
    Model: VCM-2101
    Resolution: 450 TV Lines (Horizontal)
Should I crop the images to 450 horizontal pixels or the double of that 900?
How can I match the sequence or the images settings to avoid the flicker and deinterlaced look on that monitor? I am not able to test the image by having the monitor next to computer.
    Compressor:
I used custom DVD settings in Compressor for 90 min best quality DVD. Tried the Porgressive and "Same as Source" in Output field.
In "Crop to" and "Padding" I set for preserve source aspect ratio and letterbox area of source.
I followed the advices from below and I still did not resolve the problem. Please is there anythign else I can try?
    Thanks a lot..
    Re: Poor Quality Stills
Dec 19, 2006 4:08 PM (in response to Steve Braker)
Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
    - (in FCP) field order>none
    - (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
    - (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
    - (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
    - (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    - (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images

    Dear Russ,
Thank you very much. Yes, there is something else in the sequence, old documentary, 768 x 570 (no field dominance, 25fps, Apple ProRes 422) but the images are more imporant.
make a progressive sequence with  square pixels. (I am partial to 720P, 1080 should work – or 540). Choose Pro Res 422
Do you mean that I should make a sequence in FCP with these settings? If yes, how can I set a "progressive" sequence? I dont see a setting for output field in FCP sequence settings, lnly in customizing Compressor output DVD format.
Also: "720P, 1080 should work – or 540" are you talking about Frame size? If so, to set in Compressor or in FCP?
If you have interlaced material, then de-interlace before you bring it in. If you don't have interlaced clips, don't de-interlace.
The images are not interlaced after  I crop them, apply motion blur filter in Photoshop but look interlaced in FCP timeline after I import them and even to the same as photos sequence in FCP timeline.
Please help and thank you for your comments.

Simply because your Explorer/Finder only takes into account the file names and dates of your files.
For instance, in Windows, you have to tell the explorer to sort by 'date taken' otherwise the default sort orders are file dates or file names.
If you have given a 'custom' sort order to your albums, the only way for the Explorer to sort in the same way is to set the custom sort order in the album, export to a new folder with the 'rename' option - same starting text string plus order.
