Why is iphoto reposting old pics to Facebook?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion and the most recent iPhoto, there have been several times when iPhoto reposted old pics to Facebook. I do not yet see a pattern. The pics that got reposted were originally among pics I uploaded to Facebook through iPhoto (long ago). Before being reposted, I had "touched" the pics in iPhoto (once I added a keyword, once I exported several pics and all of them got reposted). For none of the pics that got reposted had I gone to the Facebook album section of iPhoto. Rather, I accessed them from the events section.

I was getting this issue, not when adjusting the actual photos i had previously uploaded, but when uploading NEW photos into facebook. It would 're-send' an existing event to facebook and gum up everyones news feed with what i was doing 6 months ago, followed by my new event
any ideas on what might be causing this?

  • Why does iPhoto convert my pics to low res?

I use an elderly MacBook (November 2007 model) with the edition of iPhoto that came with the computer. When I take photos with my digital camera and import them into iPhoto for editing, it always lowers the resolution. My original files are 300 dpi when I view them in Preview, and when I save the changes in iPhoto and export them as JPGs, even at maximum quality, the JPG files are always at 72 dpi.
Since my editors require hi-res, cropped photos, this is getting incredibly frustrating! Is there a way to make iPhoto stop doing this? Or do I just need a new computer

iPhoto doesn't change the images. The dpi means nothing at all unless you're printing. Maximum quality in the export settings refer to jpeg compression and have nothing to so with dpi.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • Since upgrade no photos appear in iphoto list when trying to upload a pic to facebook. I can "share" on my own wall but not post a pic to a friend's wall.

No photos appear in the iphoto list when trying to upload a pic to facebook. I can "share" a photo on my own wall or add one to an album through iphoto directly. I cannot figure out how to post a pic to a friends wall.

Exactly how are you trying to do this and waht is the problem
The iPhoto facebook upload can only post to your account
If you are uploading using a browser your photos are accessed through the media browser in the lower left ahnd corner of the puload window under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto
Please describe what you are doing, what problem you are having and what version of iPhoto and of the OS you are using

how to get back my old pics in iphoto

iPhoto '11: Back up your iPhoto library
There are two ways to back up all or part of your photo library: Save photos to an external hard drive: If you have an external hard drive set up, you can use Time Machine or the Backup utility to make a backup copy of your photos.

  • Why is iphoto compressing my 300 dpi pics to 72 dpi after I have made edits?

why is iphoto compressing my 300 dpi pics to 72 dpi after I have made edits like color correction?

It is not compressing your photos other than normal JPEG cpompression
DPI is meaningless without inches (Dots per Inch) which digital photos do not have
There is a field in the EXIF data that records a DPI but it is meaningless - basically it says that this photos was displayed on a computer screen which is a 72 DPI device
The photo is exactly the same dimensions and resolution as before editing (unless you cropped it)
See  The Myth of DPI for additional information.

  • Since iphoto 11 update, why can't I  upload photo to facebook. It says that fb can't recognize my email/password combination

Since iphoto 11 update, why can't I  upload photo to facebook. It says that fb can't recognize my email/password combination. I can't seem to find out why.

in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Why does iPhoto automatically split into 2 departments & how to access old?

I downloaded the photos from my laptop to my desktop and when I merged them it forced me to create "iPhoto2" which is where all my new pics go now. However I can only view my old pics as I scroll thru them in the backup drive! Apple is so inventive I'm sure I'm just missing something...help!!

I placed my file from my laptop over my current photo file to transfer it...probably the problem.
Yes. Doing that you imported the original, modified, thumbnail and faces image files into your other library. That's not the way to do it.
If yo have a backup copy of the library on your EHD get it and replace the "combined" one and name it something other than iPhoto Library. Then just drag the library from the laptop to the EHD.
You won't be able to merger then and keep metadata, faces, places or keywords until iPhoto Library Manager is updated to be compatible with iPhoto 11. That might be sometime next week hopefully.
If you don't care about the keywords, places, etc you can use iPhotoSync
iPhotoSync to just copy the photos in your laptop library into the EHD library.
This is how it would be done:
1 - open your laptop library.
2 - using Fast User Switching go to a second user account and use iPhoto to open the library on the EHD.
3 - now you can use iPS to move the photos from the laptop library into the EHD library. iPhoto will ask you if you want to exclude duplicates so select yes for all dups.
Remember this method will NOT include keywords, places, etc. an may create multiple Events or just one large Event with all the photos. I'm not sure which.

  • Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

There have been many issues reported with Kodak cameras - serach the forums for them
Actually the best practise is to use a card reader to import your photos, verify that they are imported ocrrectly and wait at least one backup cycle and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it - this assures no lost photos and always having the card properly formatted

  • HT4623 i need to transfer old pics from my old iphone That is no longer in service to my computer

I need old Pics on my old phone   to be transferred to my new phone or computer ???

Can you turn the phone on?
Which photos are your trying to transfer?
Photo put on the phone by syncing with your computer are still on your computer. You can copy them to your new phone from there.
Photos taken with your phone or copied from emails and website reside in your Camera Roll on your phone. Connect your phone to the computer you normally sync with and start iPhoto if it is a Mac or whatever photo capture application you use with a camera on your pc. iPhoto or the image capture application will allow you to copy the photos to your computer.
Ten sync your new phone to that computer to get those photos you want on the phone copied to the phone.
I always suggest keeping a copy of all your photos on your computer and in at least one other location like and external hard drive or on CD or DVD in case something happens.

  • Any way to get iPhoto'09 to recognise existing Facebook albums?

Is there any way to get iPhoto '09 to recognise existing Facebook albums?
It would be nice to have all the previous albums I've uploaded to be listed in iPhoto and all the 100's of people I've already tagged would serve as a nice basis for the iPhoto face detection to learn who my friends are!

This is an interesting workaround, but misses the spirit of the original post. I don't know a way to get iPhoto '09 to recognize existing FB albums, but I agree that this is a serious problem with iPhoto '09.
The iPhoto '09 Facebook and Flickr uploaders have one "cool" feature - they automatically sync iPhotos events with FB "albums" or Flickr "sets", so if you make changes to the photos in iPhoto, then those changes are reflected in the photos on FB and Flickr automagically (this has been working for me in FB but not in Flickr). The more I use this the more I think it's more trouble than it is useful and I wish I could turn it off and just use the old exporters without syncing.
There are problems with the exporters:
    (1) the constant syncing with FB/Flickr can get annoying if you're making several changes, if you have a slow internet connection or slow computer.
    (2) If you don't actually want the changes to be reflected in the FB/Flickr album (i.e. i delete photos out of iPhoto to make room on my disk for more photos and now the photos are deleted out of facebook) can get not as user friendly as the original Facebook and Flickr exporter was easier and more user-friendly.
    (3) syncing is cool for a computer programmer to do, but what if users don't want it all the time? What if I don't want my Facebook albums to be exactly the same as my iPhoto albums, and I don't want to split out all the photos that I don't want on Facebook into separate events in iPhoto? This lack of support for the truly useful & user friendly (if a bit boring) features is a really unfortunate oversight.
(3a) in the old version: i can quickly and easily choose exactly which photos from which events I want to upload to FB.
(3b) as the original questioner mentioned: I can choose whether to upload to into a *new or existing album*. Hands down, this was *the single best feature* of the previous uploaders.
(in Flickr this is of paramount importance since the free Flickr account only allows 3 "sets" - so, since this fancy iPhoto syncing links your events to sets in Flickr, you'd have to create 3 massive Flickr-only events in iPhoto in order to stay within their restrictions. I like to keep my iPhotos events separate, but I'm perfectly happy uploading photos from different events into one of my three Flickr sets. i'm pretty sure i can still do this with FFXporter or similar.)
(3b) in the old version: all the photos i upload are put into a "pending" album on FB so that I can tag people, delete some photos (without deleting them off my own iPhoto), etc. before sharing them with all my friends. I'd like to have at least the option to choose whether they go into a pending album first or not.
(3c) it's further annoying that you cannot browse your iPhoto library directly (from most websites) when searching for photos to upload, you have to export the files first, then browse to where the photos were exported.

  • IPhoto says " no pics ". Events is pitch black, Photos is white, and I can't restore my Library .

  • How do I get iphoto to quit synching with Facebook?

  • Photo stream reduced from 1,000 pics to 100 .. Any way I can retrieve my old pics?

My photo stream reached a 1,000 photos, cleared out about 50 of them after I realized 1,000 was the maximum, no troubles there, but on the next day I only had a 100 photos in it.. How did that happen? Can I retrieve my old pics somehow? Have some important stuff on there.
Oh, and I don't know if it's related, but my camera has been crashing a bunch too (especially the camera+ app). Not lacking free space - have 3.8 gigs of it.

How long are My Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud?
The photos you upload to My Photo Stream are stored in iCloud for 30 days to give your devices plenty of time to connect and download them.
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture. On your PC with My Photo Stream enabled in the Control Panel, all of your photos will be imported into C:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream. For iCloud Control Panel 2.0 to 2.1.2 users, the path isC:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream .

flash player not working.  can't watch video and can't upload pics to facebook

thanks for helping.  I have windows 7, internet explorer.  recently had to replace my hard drive, and compete reinstall of all software so still a few bugs on settings, ect.  not seeing any error messages.  video and uploading pics seemed to be fine until the last week.  not sure what could have changed .  I can still look at PDF ect, I'm not positive its the Adobe that is messed up, but the 2 things I'm having problems with, clicking on and watching video on espn.com and not uploading pics to Facebook, both just does nothing when I try them.  no errors, just black screen where its suppose to play or upload.  the trouble shooting for both sites say make sure to have the latest version of flash player, so thats why I assume something is wrong with Adobe.  when I do the self scan from this site it says I have the latest version.  my settings say the player is enabled
