Why is it that when I plug my Macbook Pro to an external monitor, the external monitor turns black and shows the mouse only
Hi, yes preferences sees there is a second display it recognises what make of monitor it is etc but I just get a blank blue screen on the monitor when I change it to the hdmi setting! I have tried with mirroring on and off, rearranging the displays in the preference window and lots of different resolution settings but with no difference.
An old MacBook connects fine so the monitor and hdmi port must be okay. I'm sure we have used the cable before but it could have been with the previous MacBook Air. The current one I'm using is a mid 2011 version running lion and is (according to software update) all up to date.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

Let me start with the general advise...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help? -
when i plug in my ipod touch (8gb, 3rd generation) it doesn't turn on and the apple logo flashes on and off. before this it wouldn't turn on unless it was plugged in.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Why has my 8x8 desktop app on my Macbook Pro running OS X Yosimite 10.10.1 suddenly stopped working while the app on my iPhone and the online service both work fine? Is this because of some recent software update by Apple? 8x8 support acknowledges issues with no current work-arounds? The 8x8 desktop app worked until early December, then quit. I've deleted and re-downloaded the app, but no difference.
The solution is :
1. Delete iPhone configuration utility. Just drop it to the trash
2. Run
sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.*
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.plist*
3. Delete the whole folder: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
4. Reinstall iTunes (just over the previous one)
5. Restart

I accidentally deleted all of my old content. I went to the Apple store and they told that the system doesn't recognize that old of IDs. So, I have tried to redo music. I put some CD's on my computer and it won't let me sync the music on my ipod. When I plug in my ipod, it doesn't show a column on the left that show any playllists, or music or anything. I am not good with computers (duh) and need help!

In iTunes 11 you have the option to turn the Sidebar and the Status Bar on or off; they are off by default. To do this in the menus, go to:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).

When I plug in my iPhone, it connects and begins to charge, then asks me to "trust" the computer. When I select "trust", rather than connecting to iTunes, my phone gets disconnected and then it reconnects again and continues to charge but does not connect to iTunes... I have tried restarting both my computer and my phone, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and I've also tried connecting my phone with different USB cables and connecting them into different USB ports... Still nothing is working.
That's how Apple set it up on the Mac.
There is a free application called iExplorer for Mac that allows you to view and copy files from your iPhone.

Not a flicker when i plug in- macbook pro 15 inch 2011
I have a 2011 15 inch macbook pro which won't turn on. The background is that i ran the battery to zero inadvertently 2 days ago but now when i connect the cable the light doesn't come on on the magsafe connector and the machine appears to be dead. My first move was to exchange the cable for a new one, which is now attached but that clearly wasn;t the issue. I've checked the connections and the battery LED indicator flashes one bar when pressed (but I know I ran it to zero so no surprise). I have tried the reset SMC option x5 to no avail. I left it plugged in ( even though the light wasn't on on the adaptor) for an hour. Nada. It was fine until i ran the battery to zero. It's only 4 months old and as usual i was to spend the wekend wprking on a project...can anyone help?

On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

When I open a new tab...the link on the new tab shows the link of the page I'm previously on. Some of the other page had that effect too. But some website doesn't seem to be affected(ex: Twitter)

Is there any way I can reformat a cloned SSD that was used to upgrade my original HDD?
It suddenly stopped booting (a progress bar always appeared followed by a shutdown)
I've tried to reformat the SSD via USB case, and using Disk Utility, but it keeps on send error message with unmounting issues.
Any clues as how to overcome this problem?

NunoHave you connected that drive to another computer and if you have can you do anything with it on the other computer. If not then the drive has failed.

Becasue you have not set your preferences in itunes to open when a device is connected and you have set iphoto to open when a digital camera is connected. -

When will apple discontinue MacBook Pro 13 inch, 2013? They have already goo ten rid of the 15 inch.
You mean the non-Retina models... and no one knows when or if the 13" non-Retina will be discontinued. It's a bit long in the tooth, first being introduced in June of 2012. So it probably won't survive the 'next' round of new machines - but no one really knows!
I really don't want a completely closed machine, personally, and if you don't either I would grab the 13" while it's still available.
