Why is my iPhone resorting my photos? New iOS 8.0 64BG iPhone 5S

Have a new computer. Old one was hacked, had viruses removed, got it back. Transferred all of my songs and photos to an external hard drive. Songs went mostly without a hitch, had to replace the album artwork on a few. The photos have transferred, but though putting all of the old sub-folders into the new pictures folder has properly sorted all of the ones I took with the phone by date, something odd has happened. The photos saved to the phone, which used to be sorted by the date they were transferred, are now sorted in one giant clump. Why? Is this something to do with iOS 8? I don't suppose I can undo it?
PS I have old iPhone backups on the external hard drive too, is there a particular folder I can transfer them into?
PPS On a tangential note as regards the music itself, is there any way to preserve the playlists? I can recreate them in the new iTunes account, but the Sherlock Holmes audiobook series I have has all of the stories out of order, so putting them back in order would be a gigantic pain in the neck. And while this probably wouldn't matter to a normal, well-adjusted person who gets laid once in a while , can you manually set the number of plays on a song? It's a small thing, but it sub-grouped some stuff that way in the old iTunes account, so I was wondering if I could tell the new computer what said numbers were? I could check them and set songs on repeat, but that'd not only be a pain in the neck, but the final definitive proof that I have too much free time .
