Why is my iPhoto shuting down when I try to open it?

Everytime I try to open my iPhoto it says loading photos then just shuts down. When I went to it today it worked fine and I shut it down like I normally do. Tonight, it just will not open!! I tried to download iPhoto 6 and it won't let me do that either! Can someone please help? Thanks!

If you have iPhoto 5 then you cannot download the updates for iPhoto 6. iPhoto 6.0 must be purchased first, then the updates will apply.
Try rebuilding your library. Hold down the Option and Command keys while you launch iPhoto. If it gives you a dialog box, select the first 3 items, then do the rebuild. For more information, read this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107947

- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

Photoshop CS5 shuts down when I try to open a file or save something.

I'm not sure what I have done, but I just used it a few days ago with no problems. I could open files from the file menu and save-as things. Now when I try to open a file from my documents folder it shuts down. What is the problem. I have tried to uninstall photoshop and reinstall with a few things that are now working (something about the color scheme had to be switched to windows 7 basic and I couldn't save-as things), but this one problem is still there. Any help? I am super computer illiterate, so if you talk about third party plug-ins or things like that, I have no clue what that means.

IPhoto auto-starts when I try to open an attachment on the desktop

A friend has a MacBook (12/07) and is using iPhoto 7.1.5 (just updated). They use Yahoo mail and all of the attachments they receive download to the desktop.
When they try to open these attachments, iPhoto opens, tries to import the attachments, then leaves an error message. I'm guessing that it's "pilot error" on their part (new Mac users and not computer proficient). They probably made a choice, when prompted, that led to this problem, but I can't find how to get out of it.
I've spent several hours searching for the answer to this problem, but have had no luck. We've tried various things suggested for troubleshooting in iPhoto, but nothing's worked.

Have then select one of the photos and type Command+i. In the Info window that comes up check to see which application is set as the default application. If it's iPhoto therein lies the problem. Regardless of what is set for the default select Preview and click on the Apply to All... button. See if that will fix the problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Why does my screen go black when I try to open my videos?

When I try to open my videos, my screen goes black. All other apps work fine.

Quit the Videos app completely, restart the iPad and then try again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button
If that doesn't work, try this.
Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in the name of any of your movies in the field at the top. when the movie appears in the search - tap on it and it should hopefully start to play. Let it play for a minute or so - hit done - go back to videos app and see if all is OK.
And if that doesn't work, You can try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

HP support assistance keeps shutting down when I try to open it.

When I try to open HP Support Assistant I continurally get a message that it has stopped working and windows is trying to find the cause. On some other programs the message says that internet explorer has stopped working etc. I have done malware and virus scans and adwcleaner, but still unable to get certain programs as they keep stop working.

I understand that the HP Support Assistant and other programs will not open. You have checked for viruses and malware but it did not help.
You can try this step as it will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them
Go to the command prompt and run as administrator
Type sfc /scannow and press enter
Wait for it to complete.
If this has not helped you can try uninstalling the HP support assistant and reinstalling it.

You could also do a restore back to a known good time. Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
If the issue should still remain, I suggest doing a recovery back to factory.

During the recovery there is an option to backup your personal data to prevent data loss. If you have not done one recently I suggest you do one now.

HT2178 I do not have sound on my computer. It was fine last night but when my husband turned it on this morning, there was now sound. Also My iPhoto shuts down when I try to run a slide show. I have just had my computer for 2 1/2 weeks.

I had sound on my computer last night but when turning on this morning there was no sound. It is not muted. Any suggestions. Also, when I try to run an event in IPhoto as a slide show, it shuts down.

My iPhoto goes black when I try to open a photo

I am running OS 10.7.5 and iPhoto 11 9.4.3 on an iMac. Yesterday I uploaded 620 photos into iPhoto. They worked perfectly and I was able to go through all of them after uploading. I did not close iPhoto last night but minimized it to the dock. Today when I tried to open a photo from the thumbnail, the screen went black. All my albums do the same thing. The first image clicked on comes up on the screen. Then it goes black and then nothing I do will bring up another image.
I restarted iPhoto but that did not help.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Why does my computer shut down when i try to connect to the internet?

I have recently found that when i'm trying to connect to the internet, a box is appearing something like This device does not exist, please check your settings and try again. My settings are fine, my wires are connected and i cant find any reason why the connection wouldn't work. I have shut down my computer and this hasn't helped when i have restarted it and now, the screen has gone dark with an scary box saying the computer has to restart itself. No reason is given (or at least i can't remember if there was a reason). My computer is going a bit slower now and is making a noise like an application is opening or the computer is doing something.
Can anyone help???? I have only had my i baby for a few months. I do download stuff all the time and i have been known to leave my internet connection on for a day at a time. Could this have caused the problem?

I'm getting an iPhoto incomplete message when I try to open my iPhoto.

I'm now getting an error message that says, "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." The icon disappeared out of Launcher, and in my Applications folder, there's a circle with a line through it over the iPhoto icon. It's not a photos problem; it's an application problem. I purchased the latest iPhoto last summer from the App Store, and on my iMac, it shows that, but it won't let me download it again to my computer. Help!

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.
