Why is my ipod not playing music through a docking station?

Why is my ipod touch not playing music through a docking station?

Did it work before with this iPod?
Did you do something to the iPod since it last worked?
Does the manufacture way it will work with your model iPod and its iOS?

  • My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock.

My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock, only through the iPod's internal speaker. Help please!

Have you tried resetting both the iPod and dock? To reset the iPod, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
To reset the dock, unplug it and plug it back in.

  • My ipod nano this morning has started to tell me the accessory (lightening to 30-pin adaptor) I use for playing it through my docking station is not supported. It worked fine up until last night. Does anyone know why this might be?

Clean any debris from the adapter, docking station connector and the connector on the Nano.

  • Ipod Touch is not playing music through doc.

Ipod Touch (3rd gen) is not playing music through doc.  No problem until yesterday.  It still works fine off doc but as of yesterday it will only either charge (most of the time) or play music (rare), Not both.  Also the message "accessory is not supported by ipod touch" periodically shows up on the ipod touch screen.
My other daughters ipod touch (2nd gen) works on this doc as normal.  Also, both of these ipod touches still work on my 2nd daughters stereo doc normally.
    Both are on software 4.2.1

Look into the dock connector on the problem iPod.  Look for dirt, debris, bent or broken connector and other abnormalities.  Compare with the working iPod.

What happens when you play music? Do the hardware volume controls work when using the Music app?

  • Hi, my brand new iphone 4 will not play music through my music app but it will play videos through youtube and will play the sounds throught my games and will play text tones and facetime ect. what is wrong?

hi, my brand new iphone 4 will not play music through my music app but it will play videos through youtube and will play the sounds throught my games and will play text tones and facetime ect. what is wrong?

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it???  I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

  • My ipod is not playing on a Sony docking station and it is supposed to be compatible with it?

My ipod touch is not playing on a Sony docking station....what do I need to do??

    - Is the iPod fully seated in the dock?
    - Does Sony say it works with you model iPod touch and iOS 6.0.1? Sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility.
    - Does it charge?
    - Have you reset the dock?
You can try the following. Sometimes it works.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • IPhone 4 using iOS 6.0.1 will not play music through my car stereo

I have an iPhone 4 since it became available on Verizon's network.  I have had no issues with my phone since I began using it.  I own a 2008 VW Rabbit with the optional iPhone/iPod docking station to play music through the car's stereo.  I purchased a docking extention cable because my phone would not fit on the docking connector properly due to my phone case.  Everything has been working beautifully, sans the charging feature, until a few weeks ago.  Normally, I would start the iPod app, load the song or playlist I want to play, and plug it in to begin hearing my music.  However, recently the music stopped playing through my car speakers and only played through the built-in speakers on my phone once plugged into the docking station.  I have tried hard-rebooting (holding home button/sleep button at same time until Apple logo appears), soft rebooting (holding sleep button to slide power off), exiting all open apps, opening/closing iPod app, changing different settings through the Settings app, etc.  I am at my wits' end.  I use my phone to listen to my loaded music, Pandora and Slacker Radio.  It has gotten really boring listening to local radio during my commutes.  Please Community, help me!

i have same problem in UK - my phone no longer works with my car cable - it will charge the phone, my ipad works fine, as does my old itouch so I know that the cable is ok.  It comes up with no connection even though it is charging it. It used to be fine I dont understand why this would happen?

  • IPod only playing music through one earphone

My ipod (5th gen) is only playing music through one earphone! Its definitely not the earphones because they work perfectly fine in my iphone. What could the problem be?

first off try a different set of headphones, just because they work in x doesn't mean they will work in y. Second try cleaning it- blowing in it, compressed air, more than likely there's a piece of lint or dirt stuck in there. reset, update or restore the ipod. at your own risk you could check to see that all internal connections are seated properly as these zif connectors can come loose. if nothing you probably need a new audio jack

  • My iPod touch won't play music through the dock speakers

The other day I went to plug my IPod touch into my dock to play some music, as i do every night. My dock seemed fine, my IPod started charging, but when i turned the music on it only played out of the IPod speakers, not out of the dock. i figured it was the dock that was broken, so i plugged my IPod into my backup dock and it did the exact same thing. The only way i can get my IPod to play music out of the dock is to plug it in through the headphone jack. My IPod still plays music out loud so i have no idea what's wrong.

There is another thread entitled "brand new iPod touch 4th gen will not sit on dock of Sony Dream Machine" that mentions similar problems and claims to be resolved. Actually it is not. Some say that there is a plastic piece to bend but it is unspecified which one they are thinking of and which way to "bend" it. Besides, I am not sure any guaranty will work if one does this kind of work on the iPod. It would be preferable if someone from Apple would take responsibility and mention what has to be done or if there will be a recall of the items with a modified system.

  • IPhone (3G & 2G) Not Playing Music Through Intempo RDi Since 3.1 Update

Both my partners iPhone 2G and my 3G have stopped reliably playing music through our Intempo RDi DAB/Dock device since upgrading them to 3.1
When connecting either iPhone to the device no music is played and the iPhone does not respond to button presses on the remote. If the iPhone is left playing music the device will sometimes eventually start making sound after 45-60 seconds but will often stop again. The device will also not produce any sound in DAB or FM mode if the iPhone is connected to charge but works fine as soon as the iPhone is disconnected.
Both phones tell me that the device is not 'made to work with an iPhone' (or whatever the standard message is) when they're connected and offer to go into airplane mode. They always did this on earlier firmware revisions but continued to play music okay.
There's a post from another user on these forums relating to a similar issue with an iPod Touch on 2.2.1 that was resolved with a replacement iPod but I'm suspicious as both phones started exhibiting the issue at the same time. I've also logged a call with Intempo's customer support so I'll see how that goes, too...

First of all what kind of "Restore" are you doing? When an iphone is having issues its either a "Software" issue or a "Hardware" issue. You would eliminate the easiest one first which is software. Because the iphone is like a small computer be advised that it can have errors with 3rd party applications and its own operating system which may affect the way the iphone works.
You need to restore the iphone to the factory settings. After that you must setup your iphone as new and not from the backup. You then can sync back any data from itunes or your computer. You however cannot restore from a backup which may contain errors.
If your issue still persist afterwards from a restore as new iphone then you got yourself a hardware issue. As there are plenty other iphones out there without the issue.
However from the information I gather I dont believe your issue is with software. faint images and grey horizontal lines is indication of physical or accidental damage to the hardware. Be advise it can be external or internal hardware damage or failure.

  • Will the lightning to 30 pin adapter play music through my dock

My husband has a 7th gen iPod nano, and I have a docking station for my iPhone 3GS, we have been looking at the lightning to 30 pin adapter today music through my dock, will this work?

I would check Sony's site and see what they say.

  • Why can I not play music through my headphones while the power cord is plugged in?

When my headphones and power cord are plugged in at the same time, audio will not play through the headphones, and the volume bar goes away. Why?

What is the other end of the power cord plugged in to? If it isn't an Apple wall adapter the phone probably sees it as an audio device.

  • Why do my ipod touch play music low?

Everytime i listen to music with out head phones the volume does not get that high. They sound nice when i place it on a dock or with headphones, but not without. Do any one know why they play music low?

It's playing the sound out of a speaker in the iPod. Apple has decided (for several reasons) that the volume from the internal speaker would not be very loud. That way, when you walk past me in the street, you don't have to listen to my choice in music at full blast (and I don't have to listen to yours!).
The internal speaker isn't meant for qualltiy listening.
