Why is my thunderbird acting very slow and keeps giving me (not responding)

I have just purchased a brand new HP all in one touch screen computer for work, which has windows 8 installed on it. We all use firefox as a browser as well as thunderbird for an email. My firefox seems to be working just fine however my thunderbird SUCKS!!! it keeps coming up Not Responding as soon as I click on anything- I made a screen shot- Up top you'll see the not responding message and in the bottom left corner you'll see it saying downloading Sent-???? Makes things very very slow!!!!
Ok I just realized I can't show you the screen shot??

What is your anti-virus s/w?

    1. upgrade to lion, which should over write previous software and the reasons for it being slow.
No, you don't want to upgrade over a buggy system, Lion has issues of it's own that will only complicate matters, plus Lion is slower than Snow Leopard.
Learn all the pitfalls before you upgrade to Lion, like all your Rosetta/older programs will no longer work and more.
Leave Lion for a new hardware purchase is my advice, it's still got plenty of security and other issues.
For your performance, your likely better off replacing the hard drive with a 7,200 RPM model and maxing the RAM, download the free MacTracker to find out your specs, and OtherWorld Computing is good for videos, tools and parts.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
    2. Format the hard disc and reinstall snow leopard.
That will work, provided your data is off the machine first.
Now how do i reinstall snow leopard as it was an online purchased upgrade from leopard.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard disk that you upgraded 10.5 Leopard from actually has the full OS X 10.6 on it.
All you have to do is stick the disk in and hold the c key down while booting, use Disk Utility to erase the entire drive, quit and install 10.6.
Of course your not going to get the free iLife that came with the 10.5 grey disks, see if you can first install 10.5 with the same methods, then setup with the same user name as before, then upgrade to 10.6
I think Apple nulled booting off the 10.5 disks, but it won't hurt to try.
Another method would be to install 10.6 fresh by itself, then use the program called Pacifist to extract iLife from the 10.5 disks.

  • MacBook Pro is running slow and All applications getting not responding..

MacBook Pro is running slow and All applications getting not responding after every 30 seconds. I have tested by hardware test  nothing wrong with hardware. I am worried Because I am totally stuck with my macbook pro Help me Please !!! I have tested by creating guest account and also new account as administrator. same thing happened. apps running. I opened activity monitor and watched carefully when any app stucked, In activity monitor there is in front of ap name following text appeared : (Not Responding) in red color. 129GB free memory, 4 GB RAM Core i3 MacBook Pro 13 inch.
    Instant help needed..
    Thanks in ADVANCE !!!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • I have iphone 3g, phone is working very slow and even i can not been able to close the running application

    i have the Iphone 3g, OS 4.3.2.1
My Phone is working terribly slow, and even i can not been able to close the running application
for closing application Every time i have to restart the phone
can any 1 help me solve this problem
    with best regards,
    prakash

You must have an iPhone 3GS then if its running 4.3.2
The iPhone 3G can only update to 4.2.1 iOS.
    Reset the iPhone
Hold the top silver button and the home button (just below the display of the iPhone)
Do this at the same time for about 10 seconds until you see an Apple.
The iPhone then should take 1-3 minutes to restart and it should be fine

I installed the Safari update 6.1.1 today for Lion. Now my browser running very slow, keeps locking up & getting the "spinning wheel". It stops spinning eventually, but recurs constantly when I try to navigate elsewhere, including within this site. Screen also jumpy/almost flickering. No other browsers installed on machine, only extension used is AdBlock. Tried to search for others with this issue, but not finding it posted and machine locking up is making it difficult. Any help much appreciated!

    Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Just check the box beside “Remove all website data”.
    Click "Reset".
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Turn off Extension, and launch Safari.

  • I have the latest update.  Why does my reader still hang up and give me the "Not responding" message.  I'm on Windows Vista.

This is a most frustrating situation.  Constantly getting the "not responding" message and any further click of the mouse, and adobe reader goes pale and I have to "end process."  What's the deal?  This use to be a very reliable program.  Now, it's nothing but frustrating and bothersome.

I had the 10.1.10 version and have updated it to the 10.1.11 version.  I
restarted my computer.  Same old problem.  Adobe Reader hangs up anytime I
try to move a document to the second page, for example.  Is there an older
version I can go back to to avoid this problem.  I'm seeking to view two
documents--both from Windows Publisher saved as pdf files.  No luck

Your major problem is that you installed Norton/Symantec.  If offers no benefit and only slows your Mac. I suspect yopur computer will run much better if you uninstall it and pledge not to treat your Mac like it is a Windows computer.
WDSmartWare has slowed down my computers before so I no longer use it.
There may be other things at play but it will be hard to tell with Norton/Symantec in the way.

  • Infinity Speed Very Slow and BT Speed Checker Not ...

Hi, I’m new here and I’m hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction with an infinity issue.
I’ve had BT infinity for almost 12 months and everything speed wise has been fine until the last month or so.  My modem started to slowly die in January, but this has now been replaced by Kelly Services, the engineer who replaced the modem said the speed would now increase.  It hasn’t and I’m stuck on about a 3mb download connection which is what I was getting previously with Talk Talk.  I usually get a connection speed of between 20 – 30mb (currently advertised as up to 40mb).  I’ve tried numerous times to run the BT speed test whilst wired to the home hub but it fails every time at 96% just saying test error.
I’m currently using the bbc iplayer speed checker to see what I’m running at and have tried this using a wireless and wired connection and there’s very little difference between the two.
I have a home hub 2 with firmware version 4.7.5.1.83.2.11.2.6 (Type B) Last updated 20/11/11
I’ve reset the home hub to factory settings since the modem was replaced and this did fix another issue I was having where I could not connect new devices to the home hub without having to manually enter all the network details, but no joy with the connection speed.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative speed check I can use to get all the necessary details that BT will want to see or will this be one for the mods to check?
    Thanks

    Hi and Welcome.
It is the BT Speedtest results ( http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ ) that BT need.
The IP settings you've been put on and the speeds your achieving are important parts of the FTTC Diagnostic test.
(Might be interesting to try the Beta up to 24Mbps if you still can't get the main one to run... although it will not have the full info).
So can only suggest you try turning off the Modem and Home Hub 2 for a minute or so, then when powered back up try and run the FTTC diagnostic part when WIRED.
(Might be worth trying a different ethernet port on the HH2).
And if you can another laptop to be really certain where the fault lies.
If  the test fails again I would paste a copy of the failure in your thread as "AFTER REBOOT and ETHERNET PORT CHANGE" Test Results failure.
Then complete the BT Forum Mods contact form http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
And add the URL of this form to the contact form, so BT can see the tests you've already tried and results.
They will contact you, it may take 72hrs or so due their workload.
Example of results the BT speedtest look like and improvement HERE.
Btw it's not recommended to turn the Modem off too often as that may trick the Exchange equipment (DLM) into thinking you have a line fault, and it could reduce the IP settings slowing down your broadband in an attempt to provide a reliable broadband.
An occasional turn off for testing or holidays will be ok though.
I've also had my modem replaced by Kelly, but still have it mounted vertically to make sure it's cooling vents work most efficiently. Make sure yours is still running cool.

  • Macbook Pro running very slow and keep getting rainbow wheel

    Dear Friends of the Forum,
I have Macbook pro mid 2010, and I'm having some issues. The computer is running quite slow when opening any program and the rainbow wheel comes up. Further, the even when trying to click on the commands, the rainbow wheel appears again and I have had to re start the computer a couple of times.
I started the computer in safe mode and it is running a bit better, but decided to run an EtreCheck. I will share the report with the forum, as I do not have the technical knowledge to completely understand it.
I would be most appreciative if you could look at it and let me know your thoughts and recommendations.
    Best,

I see that you don't have Time Machine configured, before you do anything you need to make a full backup onto an external hard drive.
Restart while holding Command R and choose Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Run repair as many time as it takes to report that no more errors were found, it will probably take two or three attempts.

  • Msg.. cvn.GSD.ConsoleService is undefined.. Everything very slow...mouse does not respond properly finally crashes...Had no problem with 3.16. Windows XP system.

I receive the cvn statement on start up of Firefox 4... As soon as you sign on problems start.. Everything slows down. Conflicts and mouse start to act up... cannot get off of the page... cannot makes changes etc... I tried downloading new firefox 4 and throwing away firefox 3.16 but this made things worse... Now I do not have the old firefox and can not use the Firefox 4. I do not know what is causing the conflict. I do have earthlink as provider and I do know that you isolated until the last change in 3.16,,, Could be problem with earthlink not being compatible..but I had problems bringing up this site to send you info on my problem. I hope you can review and come up with some corrections in Firefox 4... If not please send me some way that I can put the old Firefox 3 back on my system. I miss the protection and use of Firefox.... Thanks Ron

'''cvn.GSD.ConsoleService is underfined problem still Exists. I note that 3 others have the same problem. I am working around the problem by clicking off the warning. This does not solve the issue but allows me to use Firefox until everything slows down. I have noticed that I also receive this msg when I try to use Microsoft Office Excel and similar programs. Please let me know if anyone finds a solution or you are able to update Firefox to avoid this problem. Thanks'''

  • After installing the latest update, firefox keeps giving me "not responding" message and has slowed down

In addition, whenever I open tabs the browser starts pausing for a while. This didn't happen before. I think there might be some sort of inconsistency in the latest update of firefox which was automatically installed yesterday.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • HT1338 Is there a Mac System Clean-up? My computer is running very slow and freeze all the times

I don't know why my computer is running very slow and keeps freezing all the times.  It would take at least 2-3 min to load up after the not using it for 5 min.  For instance when I type my paper or doing anything on the computer and leave for a fews min after come back it would not start and the icon keeps on spinning.
    Thanks

Pretty much all "clean-up" utilities will just make things worse.
You need to determine what it is that is causing the problem.
How much RAM do you have?
For the following, report what you get when the system is running slow and beachballing.
Open Activity Monitor (Utilities folder) and click on System Memory tab at the bottom of the screen. What does it say for Page Outs?
Also, at the top of the window, select All Processes. Click on the %CPU header until the arrow points down. Anything pop up at the top of the list that is using a very high percentage of CPU?
What you describe can be caused by incompatible third-party software. Boot into Safe mode and see if the problems still exist. Safe mode will be a little slower than normal, but you shouldn't see the system freeze up.

  • Logic Studio acting very slow

Hi im new to this forum. Finally got Logic Studio, I have no previous experience of Logic but I have been wanting to purchase music software for a long time. I installed Logic and it is acting very slow and often when i have only recorded 3 layers it will say "System Overload the audio engine was not able to process all required data in time (-10011)". My Computer is a PowerPC G4, 1.25 GHz, 1 MB L3 cache, 2 GB DDR SDRAM. Writing all information because I do not know much about computers.
If anyone could help that would be great ??

You are unfortunately at the bottom end of computers that can run Logic 8 at all.
If upgrading your computer is not possible, be sure to check into ways of making your computer handle it's load more easily. Some ways of doing that are to check into freezing tracks, and being thrifty with plug ins, etc. You can put a plug in effect on a track (like EQ, say, or compression on a guitar track) and once you absolutely know you have the sound you want, record that to another audio track and take the plug ins off your original track. This will cut down on the number of plug ins you have running at any one moment. And remember, EQ takes up resources by the # of bands, so if you don't need 7 then use just one, or three. That sort of thing.
Others will no doubt tell you some better ways of making use of your computers resources as well.
Check the amount of samples your computer is using to address latency, as well, you have to adjust that a bit until you find a happy medium often. Read the manual for that until you understand it, and work out what helps you.
I should mention that RAM will help you a lot and in the cheapest way, if you can move up from the 2 Gigs you have, I'd do so.
You can also upgrade the processors in G4's, check out OWC Computing and maybe there will be some help for you there. It isn't inexpensive, but if I had a G4 I'd do it regardless.
Or maybe this is God's way of telling you to get a new Mac, is how I'd view it.

  • System very slow..keeps hanging up in Firefox

My system is very slow and keeps hanging up in Firefox...I can type half  a sentence, wait 30-45 seconds..continue.
    Thoughts?

What is the exact model MBP that you have and what is the installed OSX?
Have you tried another browser such as Safari or Opera?  There may be other reasons for the problem.
    Ciao.

  • When starting Thunderbird to retreive my emails it is very slow and eventually no emails show up. Help

I use Thunderbird to retrieve my emails. When I click on the site at the bottom left hand corner it indicates how many emails are waiting to upload on my page. AVG AntiVirus scans the emails. It starts out very slow and the green bar comes across the bottom right hand corner very slowly. I may get one or two emails but then it just stops and the rest of the emails don't upload on my site. My husband has the same issue as he uses Thunderbird also. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    H Sean,
    Welcome to Apple discussion: )
What if anything have you tried or have done to trouble shoot the problem.
Look in your Console, found in the Applications/ Utilities folder for any
clue, check the console.logs & system.logs, for any clues & paste them in a reply post. Look for items that access the net.
Do you do any internet clutter cleaning, using a tool, such as OnyX make sure to get the correct version for 10.3.9 if you do download it.
See Neils User's tip article , on Clearing caches with OnyX
Do you do any Regular Maintenance/General Troubleshooting ?
Go to Home~/Library/Caches/Safari cache folder, and Get info on the size of the Safari cache folder, if it is larger then 5 MB's I would trash the entire Safari cache folder.
~/Library/Safari folder/Icons folder, what is the size of that folder, if more say 2-3MBS, that could slow things down. These are the icons beside every
bookmark & URL , when you trash this folder the Icons will all become default
blue bubbles, the icons will recreate, unless you set the "You -can" Read & Write to Read only, in the "Ownership & Permissions" portion of the "Get info" window. Same is true for the Safari cache folder.
System Preferences-> Accounts-> Start up items, the more items there the more CPU usage the more spinning you may experience, which items do
    you have there?
Which version of iTunes are you running, & have you removed the extra files?
Do you have and problems running Disk permissions repair?
    Please post back.
