Why is this thing so ******* slow
i have nothing but problems with this macbook air and no apple tech can help including the apple store people no one can help me although ive paid an extra 300 dollars for their ****** suport anybody please ******* help me

A window opened when I started that said " We strongly suggest that you update......" I did not want to but each time I turned my computer on the same window pops up with the "strongly suggest" and my computer began to run slower and stop lot. So I finally pressed the bar for more information..But never got any. My computer continued to keep "stop script" and run slow. So after several days of this I clicked on "Next" to download the update and it has been" Connecting to the update server" for over 6 hours now and still running little green boxes in a frame over and over and over. Why is this happening?

My huge annoyance is how Preview converts ai, .eps and .ps files to .pdf files.
It has progressively deteriorated from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard.
In Leopard it defaulted to saving the .pdfs to the Documents folder not the place of origin and would regularly crash if more than a few (sometimes just 2) files were opened simultaneously.
In Snow Leopard nothing was fixed and now the names are stripped off the converted files so that they are all called Untitled.
Apple must have received hundreds of bug reports (I diligently sent one every time Preview crashed) and several feedbacks detailing the problem, to the point I believe persecuting Designers and ruining their work has become a NEXT programmers secret objective.
Except for a couple of minor bug fixes to do with drag & drop in Preview, I am puzzled where the so-called improvements in Snow Leopard really benefit user.

So i just got a macbook pro...I love it, yes it is my first good laptop.
It has it bugs that i wish apple would fix (Like the whine) but i can deal with that.
My question is why is this think so hot..I almost burned my self. i mean i dont really use it on my lap. but manif i wanted to i better get like a peice of wood first haha..who knows.
I just want to know that being so hot that it wont like overheat or hurt ne thing inside.

thanks.This is a hard question to answer, because as far as I know, there is no spec from Apple on "what the right temperature is" and even if there was, there currently is no accurate way of measuring it. Some of us, including myself, are able to only get a temp from one part, and that is the hard drive using the widget you can get from the Apple site.
My MBP is hot, but it is not "excessive". Having said that, I can tell you that I don't use it on my lap at all, and I can touch it without my screaming in agony! If you have one that is "that" hot, then I suggest having Apple look at it.
By the way, for anyone interested, last night, my temp of the hard drive was 109F. I took a professional meat thermometer I have (the kind that is an instant read out wherever you put the probe) and it read 104 on the top of left hand side of the keyboard, 97 on the right hand side, 102 where the hard drive is (and where I was getting 109) and 94 on the front right side. I'm not too worried about any of those temps....

I'm Gonna Toss This Thing -- So Slow
I moved from PC to Mac in January and I have the OSX 10.4 and I'm about ready to spit and toss this thing in the trash. It is so slow for every application, every program, every file, and every time I get on the internet (cable modem), I can't stand it. I've tried the forums and clean up programs and diagnostics and all that stuff. This thing is down to a crawl and I don't know what to do. Not sure how to get support either. I'm about ready to go back to Dell. Please help!!

Last night I spent two hours reading various Apple articles that were new to me regarding iTunes and iPods. I read those articles not here at Discussions, but at Support.
After two hours of reading, I was able to determine that it may take me quite some time to become either proficient or expert. I read nothing confusing or contradictory, just had to stay focused on the particular products that interested me, as it's easy to go off and start reading something that's "related" but that won't do me any substantial good this early in my learning curve. For instance, there's absolutely no point in learning about iTunes 6 (or 4 or 5, for that matter) when in fact I already have iTunes 7 installed.
To reach Support, click on the purple "Support" tab at the top of this page, then narrow down to your area of interest, where you can view a main Support page for a particular Apple product.
Since you're still new to Mac, you need to review the main Support page for the Intel based iMac and also the main Support page for OS X Tiger (10.4). At this point, you need to stay away from the main Apple sales information areas and from the Apple Store areas, and from the Discussions.
Go through the main Support page and read everything (including tutorials) targeted to the beginner or new user. Ignore the troubleshooting aspects in favor of learning the basics. At this point, you should not be expecting problems, but you should try to take the attitude that your iMac will at some point "just work" and therefore at this time you should be concentrating on how to avoid problems, not how to solve them.
I may get some flack from other posters, some much more learned than me, for suggesting this, but, after you've had nine months of not being able to benefit AT ALL from your new iMac, the only thing that makes sense to me is that you should save all your important files to some location other than your iMac, and entirely erase your iMac and start from scratch. I'd recommend adding nothing to your iMac until you have the basic setup running like greased lightning. I see no point in saving your settings since it's been working so poorly for you until now. Who knows where the problems started?
The install from the original grey-labeled DVDs is simple to perform, whether you choose the "easy" install or "customized" install, and all the software updates are much less daunting when not performed singly, but in the now condensed form that will be offered to you once you've completed the fresh OS install of 10.4.4 from your DVDs.
For example, instead of doing multiple OS X updates, there will only be a single Combo update that will take your iMac from 10.4.4 to 10.4.8. Same thing with most other things, except some of the iLife applications take two software updates to bring them current.
First, however, check that there's nothing wrong with your cable's delivery of internet access. If necessary, pull out the Dell to verify that your cable modem is doing what it should, and that there are no firmware updates available for that particular piece of hardware either from the manufacturer, or from the cable company that may have provided it to you.
You might email them or phone them to be certain. After nine months, another day or two to exchange email about that shouldn't be too bad. In addition, you should probably check at your cable provider's website to see if there's a place where you need to adjust some settings. While it's been several years since I had a cable hookup, I seem to recall that one of the things they wanted was to know what type of hookup I'd be making with what brand of computer, or some such. I may be mistaken, or that may no longer be relevant, or that may not be the case with your cable provider.
Good luck, and keep at it, as satisfaction is undoubtedly closer than you expect:))
P.S.
If your OS is still at 10.4.5, that may be part of your problem, as there actually ARE fixes for problems (issues) introduced in each each Software Update. There's no point in erasing to start over if you do not intend on updating your software. Since 10.4.4 was the earliest Intel version, some of the earliest discovered issues (for some users) were not resolved until at least 10.4.6

Attach is a simple vi.
Just click on the front panel (in the boolean array) and drag mouse.
The overall response of the vi is very poor. The array is not updated as fast as i would expect.
I don't think that there are too many things that must be updated, to justify the poor (for my opinion) performance.
Any opinion ?

Why is this thing crashing even with Firefox help the only window open? Just updated Mac OS 10.6.7.

No time for details before this of crap crashes again. Where is location bar? Screen shot isn't for a mac. I've lost this about 10 times in 20 minutes.Not sure if this is exactly the same as the other reported problems.
But creating a new (via command N or via menu selection) window creates a long thin nearly zero width but full height window. Selecting the window via the window menu and zooming brings it up at full size.
I tried turning off all add-ons and things seemed to work but then stopped working again (sorry can't find a consistent set of symptoms here).

This problem started in January 2011. I have an AT&T 3G wireless connection to the INTERNET.
Response time had always been amazing with the 3G and Firefox. Starting one day in January I started having long delays with every website, page, etc., etc. that I accessed. The message "Connecting To 1.2.3.4..." appeared with everything I did.The "connecting to 1.2.3.4" is an HTML code-snippet that AT&T is injecting in to HTML pages that calls a javascript image accelerator (presumably hitting some AT&T cache) sitting on the server with the IP address "1.2.3.4". They're doing this to improve image quality/download speed on mobiles, but given this is a firefox forum I'm willing to bet the "34 people" that have this problem as well are using their AT&T 3G connection for internet tethering.
To confirm this, navigate to one of these slow pages in firefox and use the menus to find: View ==> Page Source You should see right at the top something like:

Given you're on a laptop, you probably don't want this image shrinking service so you need to block access the site "1.2.3.4". I'm sure you use to be able to block access to certain sites in the admin tool widget on FF5 but I couldn't find it anywhere. I installed a FF add-on called "blocksite" and told it to block "1.2.3.4". I noticed a significant improvement.
I actually had this problem on the UK telco O2 as well so it isn't just AT&T that is doing it. -
Firefox and Adobe Flash - Why is this combination so slow now?
I don't know when the problem started but it has been many versions of both Firefox and Adobe Flash since Flash has worked reliably and quickly. I have tried many solutions including uninstalling both Firefox and Flash and reinstalling them yet the performance problems continue. When the dialog appears to send a crash report, many times I do. My Firefox is 32.0.1 and the Flash plug-in is 15,0,0,152. Is there an end in sight for this problem? The standard answer is Mozilla pointing the finger at Adobe and Adobe pointing at Mozilla.

Whenever I am using Firefox, when I am on a webpage (any webpage) & I either click on a link in that page, start typing in a box, click on a button, or click on a tab, the browser window either reduces to the toolbar, or just changes size, usually from full-screen to 2/3 of its size. I reinstalled Firefox (downloaded from the web) after wiping my hard drive because I was having so many problems from my browser constantly crashing, to the computer itself crashing often, to the computer running exceptionally slow. At first everything seemed fine. But then after having opened my computer a few times, a few different windows began to freeze, then that stopped, then this thing with the browser started a few times later after opening it. Now it does it every time I open it. Also, whenever I try to click on a button on other windows on my computer, I get the 'warning' sound, nothing happens, then after a couple more tries, the button works. All of this is just weird. I had antivirus protection on my computer, but it apparently did not catch whatever virus infected my computer, or the damage was already done when it did get it. I thought once the hard drive was wiped, that everything would be ok, but then these weird things began to start up, and now I am wondering.... Of course, it could also be something wrong with the browser, too. I've also had some trouble getting my printer to working again, but I've managed to solve that problem.
I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
I just bought photoshop elements 13 last night. Today I am watching tutorial videos to show me how to use it, but the videos are showing me things I don't have. Asking me to click on tabs i don't have. Why is this? Is there another way I can learn? Or is my download messed up and not giving me everything I need?

Why is it like if i don't sync the data in my pad to the itunes of my system ,the data in my ipad is getting cleared when i copy any thing to my ipad.This is not comfortable rite?why is this so.?or there is any other way?
i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason. -
I've reset this thing like 3 times now what's going on with it? why won't it connect to my iTunes?
Beyond resetting what have you tried?
Common fixes can be to use a different USB port or different USB cable. You can also try updating iTunes, or uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.
Does your computer see it at all? Is there a little chirp when you plug it in?
